LG V30 - the VS corner. - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

Dears,
if you agree, here we can collect the hardware (dimensions, ergonomy, usability, feeling) and software (UI, picture, video, ...) comparison and impression of our V30 in the battle-arena of the top of the 2017 (2018... maybe???).
Let's start! and... let's Round 1!

First... just a few of picture about a VS LG V30 (firmware V10j) and iPhone 7 (iOS 11). All in auto (point and click), HDR enabled by default and... click!

Mine is iPhone 7... I guess iPhone X at that stage will destroy our if LG doesn't make point.

Let's face it, this is essentially a comparison of one phone's strength (well, mostly only option when stock) vs another phone's weakness. iPhones are designed to be mindlessly used in auto mode. The V series phones are designed to be used in manual mode. (And preferably with HDR off.) All except the last pairing of photos are using different settings which doesn't make for a very good comparison of photo quality, it just makes a comparison of how the two decided to choose settings. And the subjects. Ai! Ai! Ai! Surely you could have found better subjects to take photos of?

[Q] Camera optimal settings

Hey there, just got the Z1C yesterday. I've had an XPERIA S and XPERIA Z so I'm familiar with the Sony ecosystem.
I was just wondering what settings you guys use to capture images? I would prefer 16:9, with noise being reduced as much as possible. I don't really mind about sacrificing detail too much if I can get noise levels down.
Right now I use manual mode, 15.5mp, single auto-focus. Automatic White-Balance and auto-iso.
I'm also confused, should I use 15.5MP or 8MP?
Can you also recommend settings for taking pictures in low-light.
I don't suffer from flashbleed problem btw.

I don't have any advice to offer, however I was considering posting the same question to see what people have found to work the best.

Interestingly, the phone is only more willing to use higher ISO when using the Superior Auto (it maxes out at ISO 400 in manual), so if you don't need the full 20.7 MP goodness for post-processing cropping you may be better off with Superior Auto.
Another thing to note from the article comments, their review model is only running JB, and there were some camera improvements introduced in the KK upgrade.
Personally, I stick with 8 MP Superior Auto and only switch to the full 20.7 MP if I prefer to do post-processing cropping.
On a related note, I wished the Manual mode is really fully manual...

Iso setting can be changed at 8MP up to 3200. in full resoution the option is more limited. (including HDR, scene detection etc)

I'd go and look at the various threads on the Z1 forum as the camera is basically identical and there's load of good advice on getting the most from the Z1 from users who have had more time to experiment (and there simply being more users full stop).
Bear in mind that since .757 there have been a number of improvements. Auto mode is now actually quite good, especially in good lighting conditions, so some of the advice might be less relevant. I'd have been in the 'NEVER USE AUTO - ALWAYS USE MANUAL' camp but I think you might actually get away with auto now.
I still use manual modes, and have been blown away by the quality of some shots I've had over the last few days.

That is insane quality . No noise at all. Very detailed. Do you put HDR mode on? What is your focus mode? And what about metering?
I'll try the landscape SCN mode... I have found some pictures I have taken are blurry at the edges but your photo's don't really have that.

I thought the higher the ISO the more it lights up the scene but the higher the noise as well? I thought the best thing to do was to keep ISO low as possible.

Ok cool, I'm not really into post-processing, I just want to be able to point and shoot quickly and get decent picture quality. One thing that kind of annoys me about this phone is that the flash is very aggressive in manual mode (I set it to auto) and quite a lot of times I have to set it to off manually.
Manual mode is overwhelming enough for me! lol what other settings could there be to tweak?
Thanks for the advice guys, and that link is amazing btw!

Questions Before I buy The Mate 20X

Hey guys... I got some question before I buy this phone:
1) Is the wifi signal since the last update good or bad?
2) Is the wifi range good?
3) Is there dark mode?
4) Can you add themes to make it look cool since the UI looks dated?
5) Any reason why I shouldnt buy this phone?
1. Wifi is good enpugh
2. There is Dark mode
3. You can ad theme
4. If you need big display than you can not find any alternative of Mate 20 X. It is the best 7.2 Inch big display phone. But if big display not must then overall best phones are made by Samsung. The only reason you shouldn’t buy mate 20 x is it software and camera is so bad. But surely interms of big display phone it is the best

Why would you say the camera on Mate 20X is bad? It has the same exact camera as Mate 20 Pro and that was rated as one of best cameras of 2018.

Actually I am using Mate 20 X and practically I am seeing the camera is ok but not very good. Software issue mayb! May be on papers it is a excellent canera but in real-life I am not feeling it has good camer. But its ok and not bad. But samsung provide the best camera. Samsung hase no 7+ inch smartphone so I have to use Huawei Mate 20 X. Ohh, it has side which is far better than samsun, and it is it's battery backup best an unbeatable

1. Signal is better on the 310 update compared to the 300 & 208
2. Range depends on if you're using 2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz, your router and obstacles in the way; but overall range is decent
3. Yes: Settings-Battery-Darken Interface Colours
4. Yes; You can use custom launchers easily on the international model EVR-L29. I use Nova Launcher as an example.
5. Reasons to not buy this phone really depends on your preference:
- The screen is really big (7.2") so it's not for compact or thin lovers.
- It has a teardrop notch, so it's not for notch haters
- Bootloader is currently locked, so can't root for new users
- If you're in the U.S, then you have to consider the trade tension involving Huawei (It's ok now, but the situation is volatile and can change anytime)
- Mate 30 X MAY come out end of the year. So if you're willing to wait and see, the new one could be better. But then again, 30 X may not come.
Just to balance out the cons:
- Amazing battery life
- Great performance both on games and everyday use
- Great camera. I use the superwide & macro mode alot
- Huge clear display
- Decent dual speakers

One UI 2.0 Camera Pro Mode features

Hello. I noticed that after the new Android 10 update the galaxy S10 series all got the long exposure camera update in Pro mode and are now capable of shooting up to 3200 ISO and 30 second shutter speed. Sadly the S9 series didn't get so lucky and stayed at the previous limit of 800 ISO and 10 second shutter speed. I don't think that there's a huge hardware difference between both model's primary 12MP cameras so I was quite disappointed that we got left behind. Also I don't think there will be any huge software updates for the S9 series since it's already a 2 year phone, so I was wondering if there could potentially come out a custom camera app that would unlock the current limitations of the camera?
Without full Camera2Api, I don't think it's easy to make a custom camera app which can take 10 second exposure shot, let alone 30 seconds.
But it IS FULL Camera2API. I downloaded the app and it has "FULL" checked and "LEVEL_3" , "LIMITED" and "LEGACY" are all crossed out.
That's weird, for me it's limited. I don't know.
Haven't checked in Android 10 though, might as well do it.
Yeah, the latest One UI 2 with Android 10 shows with Camera2api FULL Hardware Support Level. That's why I'm so confused...

Question how is the camera quality ?

does Asus rog 6 pro compete with the s22 ultra or iphone 13 pro max ?
Nowhere near.
It's definitely a league below, particularly in low light & video quality. A solid B- compared to the A-listers.
It's okay to good, for general social media requirements/ daytime photography.

I looked a lot of review, the right hardware is there, the main problem is the camera software i will try with gcam apk and/or with some other camera application from Google store. Cameras software is the only weak point of this phone
Nope. You don't buy ROG devices if camera quality is a big thing for you. It does the job - that's it.
Try this gcam from BSG and my config file. Tell me what you think. Cheers.
as mentioned by some, the hardware is there but software is bad, even with gcam the results are poor due to bad API implementation.
6D ultimate here - inconsistent performance. sometimes it can be ok, sometimes it's crap.
imprecise blurring for portraits
lacks detail
inconsistent exposure
generally favours day light, and poor with low light

Snapdragon even worse. Suffers from the exact same issues, however its just worse. It's generally accepted that the camera software is beta at best.
I'd love to see a full proper gcam port done for this phone
This whole phone is obsolete at its price. Everyone knew SD8 Gen 2 is coming shortly after the ROG 6, now it is here and every new phone out there will now smash this gaming phone AND offer a twice as good camera performance at a lower price.

Thanks a lot for sharing these files.
Does the GCam package automatically replace the standard camera app?
Do you like the improvements?
As others, I believe the hardware itself should be just fine (not sure about the lenses, though) but the software is letting the phone down regarding IQ out of the box.

Hi, it does not replace the stock app, it is just another app like any other app. And yes, the improvements are there, for sure. Try it !
Any update app or config?

Question Anyway to get the 7 pro's new camera software features?

I just switched from Pixel 6 pro. Pixel 7 pro’s telephoto lens imaging white balance has a serious problem. It is greenish and white, and it is blurry after zooming in, as if it is out of focus. Compared with the previous generation’s imaging quality and White balance is significantly worse! I know the pixel 7 pro telephoto has a smaller sensor but even in good light it's not as good as the 6 pro. But other aspects are better than the previous generation, which makes me very entangled. My foreign language is not very good, but if you can give me some guidance, I will try my best, thank you all.
1. Is there any effective way to report this problem so that they can solve it as soon as possible?
2. Is there any third-party software that can improve this problem?
3. Is there a way for the 6 pro to get the new functions of the 7th camera, such as cheating the model or something, if the 6 pro can achieve 2x camera cropping (Bayer array conversion) and fusion zoom, then I will not hesitate Switch back to 6 pro
1. Google has an issue tracker. Post your issue there, with logs.
2. Unknown
3. You can change the device fingerprint to a Pixel 7 Pro, but I would simply be patient. Google tends to bring features of newer devices to older ones.

Thank you, I have been using non-latest flagships before, and I feel that Pixel is getting more and more stingy in terms of bringing new features to older devices, especially the camera
