[Review] Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime: The schoolgirl selfie companion? - Device Reviews and Information

Hi there!
Below is adapted from my original review on gadgetvictims.com
Turns out that Redmi 5A Prime is better than expected.
-----------------
Xiaomi has just released the Redmi Note 5A priced below 140€.

Identification
With Xiaomi's plethora of variants under a same model, it is important to start by identifying the product in order to set the expectations right.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime
Redmi: regroups the low cost phones as opposed to the Mi, which is more middle range to flagship.
Note: indicates a 5.5" size device (although I've seen 5.5" Mi phones without that denomination).
A: indicates the entry level phones.
Prime: The sample I'm reviewing here is actually the 32GB ROM version of the Prime variant (120€/140$). That suffix is not always mentioned by the shops but has its importance.
The Prime specifications are a notch above the bottom-of-the-low-range with a better chipset (Snapdragon 435 vs 425), more memory (3/32GB vs 2/16GB) and a 16MP selfie camera (vs 5MP). The Prime version also adds a fingerprint sensor. A higher spec. version with 4/64GB is expected soon.
The cheapest non-Prime 16GB version is at 100€/120$.
Key Specification
Display: 5.5-inch, 720 x 1280 pixels (400 ppi pixel density)
Size: 153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm
Weight: 153 g
Rear camera: 13 MP with AF, f2.2, with LED Flash
Front (Selfie) camera: 16 MP, f2.0, with LED Flash
Storage: 3GB of RAM + 32GB ROM
Chipset: 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435
(Octa-core Cortex-A53 + Adreno 505 GPU)
IR blaster (infra Red cell)
Battery: 3080mAh non-removable
Unpacking and Design
The compact box is just the size of the phone, with some extra depth for the accessories: a charger, a USB cable, a SIM tray extractor pin and a leaflet.
The 5A has a classic design and yet, looks nice, slim and well finished.
Its light weight (153gr) and thinness (7.7mm) makes you regret that no hard case in the box. At least, there quite a good choice of accessories to choose from already.
A long 3-in-1 tray takes 2 nano-SIM's and one MicroSD together.
The micro USB is still used and there's no quick charger although the technology is supported. Using a spare one from Doogee, it took about 1 hour to full charge.
Cameras: "Only" one per side...and that's great news!
Xiaomi does not make any fuss about the camera sensors inside, and honestly, I don't mind if they are from Samsung, Sony or even Omnivision!
The result is far better than most manufacturers trumpeting the latest IMX on-board while ruining it with sub-par software.
The front camera features a LED flash, a resolution of 16.0MP, an aperture of f2.0 and a Phase Detection Auto Focus.
If the advertising illustrations of the product were not clear enough, this phone is targeted at the selfie and ussie takers!
All the expected options are present, including advanced "face beauty" settings, some funny filters, and a face detection that tries to evaluate the gender and age (not always accurate with toys...).
The back camera is "only" a 13MP, f2.2, and (shock horror) there is only one!
And still...it makes all those double-camera models look pathetic in comparison!
For those who expected a double camera just to improve their blur background shots, Google Camera can use the embedded gyroscope to achieve a similar effect, as well as the 360 Photo Sphere shots.
The camera is fast in all aspects: launching, focusing, shooting.
With the appropriate option activated (under Lock screen & password), launching the camera app and taking a shot takes no more than a second!
2x optical zoom means no loss of pixels up to that level, with the digital zoom kicking in afterward, effectively zooming on the existing pixels. The shots below show different level of zoom (0x, 2x and 4x) in low light. (see original review for full size view)
There is a decent set of options, even if they are not always grouped in the most convenient way between options and settings menus.
MIUI 8 and bloatware
The phone came with MIUI 8.5.4 and an OTA update to 8.5.8 was available. It is based on Android Nougat (7.1.2). MIUI 9.0 is due soon after the Golden Week (黄金周) holidays with hopefully, a global ROM.
I used the option to select an alternate home screen to install the excellent Yandex launcher, tried previously with the Bluboo S1.
Where is Google Play?
There is no global ROM yet for the Redmi Note 5A, and since the Chinese ROM does not include Google Play, a bit of DIY is needed to install it and configure the permission and battery saving options.
I first tried a certain Google Installer 2.0 which didn't work for me.
The easiest way has been to restore one a backup made available on miui forum.
As always, MIUI is generous in bloatware, although there's a few worthwhile Mi applications in the lot. A good deal of them can be uninstalled but some useless services, considered as system apps, will remain active.
Fingerprint scanner: lightning fast!
I found most fingerprint scanners to work well and fast enough...until now!
This one reacts just... instantly!
I would have prefered it located at the front, but I'll get use to it. There's simply no way I return to the slower ones!
Performance:
Snapdragon 435 Octa Core 1.4GHz: This chipset is aimed at the mid/low-range market. It may not the fastest one around but it's certainly not sluggish.
The "only" HD but nevertheless excellent IPS screen is a perfect fit for the Snapdragon 435 and the phone works smoothly through any task.
The phone feels much faster in general than its Mediatek counterpart with similar benchmark score (MT6750T).
Geekbench: single core:675 / Multi-core: 2581
Antutu: 45740
HD "only" screen:
The screen is not full HD but [email protected], and yet it's bright and sharp, ideal for reading ebooks, which I tried for a few hours.
There's even a schedulable Reading Mode to reduce the background glare at bed time.
This IPS screen is almost as good as an AMOLED with vibrant colors, deep blacks and excellent contrasts.
The Contrast and Colors under Display also allow to adjust the overall color temperature.
Communications
Phone calls / Sound quality
Sound quality is of tradition with Xiaomi products, and that's even true with their cheapest IP cameras, so no bad surprise here, the sound is crystal-clear during phone calls and the speakers are perfect for voice and can go quite loud without damage for music.
The in-call interface is functional with all the necessary options available.
Networks:
On the mobile data side, 4G is supported but I'm only getting HSPA+, and the easiest way to find out why is to visit frequencycheck.com. In my case, there's very little B3 (1800Hz) coverage in my area.
Wi-Fi reception is good but seems limited to 2.4GHz, although the 5GHz band should be supported by the Snapdragon 425 Processor.
Notification LED (I missed you so much!):
It rings loud (and louder if a call is not answered), it vibrates and, if you miss it, there's even a LED!
Kudos to Xiaomi for not ditching this essential option to spare a few cents!
Battery life
The advertised capacity of the 3080mAh battery is rather modest but probably the actual capacity unlike many competitors.
On the other hand, Qualcomm Snapdragon is well known for its power efficiency and the 435 Octa Core is not the most demanding chipset.
I achieved 24 hours of mixed use with some intensive sessions (all the de-MIUIzation, lots of pictures taken, frequent interaction, benchmarks, ...)
There are many clever optimization options under the Battery & performance menu but I didn't even use the battery saver.
IR Blaster:
The 5A can be used as an IR remote controller. The native Mi Remote application mostly supports the smart home devices from Xiaomi but also some popular brands of TV and set top boxes. However I could not get it work with any device, even my LG TV.
As an alternative, I've installed "Universal TV Remote" from Twinone which works great, even with my old X10 IR relay.
GPS: 20 satellites under 4 seconds...that should do the job.
Conclusion: so, who is that phone for?
On paper, the Xiaomi 5A Prime is inferior to its bigger brothers on almost every aspect: smaller battery, lower pixel density, slower processor, slightly heavier, a bit thicker, ...
My opening title "The schoolgirl selfie companion?" (just a tad bit sarcastic) reflects my opinion before testing this phone.
Now, I realize that the Redmi Note 5A Prime is a silent killer for the competitors in that price range!
The Redmi Note 5A Prime (in 3/32GB) turns out to be a high quality smartphone and if the components are not all the latest and fastest, there's been no compromise on the quality and the cameras are possibly the best available under 150€.
Unlike the very widespread trends amongst entry-level smartphones, the Redmi Note 5A Prime does not make false promises, but delivers exactly what's announced.
The current version is a potential source of frustration for those relying on Google ecosystem, and I can't wait to see a Global Version, with MIUI 9, hopefully very soon, so we won't have to put our hands in the grease anymore.
The 3/32GB Prime variant, priced 119€/139.99$ with coupon JSMTA (expiry date: 2017-10-7) is by far the most sensible choice in the 5A family.
The other variants are:
Redmi Note 5A (not Prime): 100€/120$
There are too many concessions (no fingerprint sensor, smaller front camera, smaller chipset, only 16GB of storage) for almost the same price.
Redmi Note 5A (Prime) "4/64" with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage: 220€/260$. There are not enough advantages to justify the higher price.
For that budget, look at the Mi 5X/A1 instead!)

There was alot of grumbling that the Redmi Note 4 had different sensors and from what I've seen from the sample pictures, the differences are significant. The OV version was the worst with some weird tint (maybe it was just with the on) but it shows that you cannot ignore the different sensor types. Xiaomi is taking a risk with these sort of low brow bait and switch marketing tactics.

Restore IMEI?
Hi guys, i have an Redmi note 5A which i got with China Rom, and in atempt to flash Global Rom in test point i accidentaly flashed rom from Redmi 5A which lead me to lose the IMEI of the device and i cant sign in into my mi account to unlock bootloader and restore it.. I have flashed the latest China Stable Rom and the China Developer Rom from in EDL mode but that didnt restore my IMEI neither i can log in into my Mi Account..
What can i do?

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the BLUBOO S1.
Hardware
Together with all Xiaomi Mi MIX clones released in the last few months, this BLUBOO S1 might not get the level of attention compared to already released models, but in reality this differs from others and might be considered as a new idea of the Mi Mix clone. It is powered by a Mediatek Helio P25 (seems to be real this time), with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM.
Unboxing
Even though the package looks enormous for the device, it doesn't include lots of accessories as you might expect: 1x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 3.5mm to Type-C Adapter, 1x 5V/2A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Card, 1x Bluboo Customer Paper, 1x Glass Screen Protector. 1x TPU Case, 1x SIM Card Tray Remover and the Smartphone (of course). There is no screen protector pre-applied.
Based on the Xiaomi Mi Mix design, also this one comes with a thin bezels design but when it comes to build quality everything changes. The chassis is completely made of plastic thus you can notice some crackling sound if you try to squeeze the device slightly but still it doesn't feel that bad considering the materials. Also, the whole device has been covered with an oleophobic coating so it is almost impossible to leave fingerprint marks on it, pretty impressive.
It is 14.40x7.56x0.86mm, as compact as other 5.5" inches devices following the same design so compact and ergonomically perfect, with a weight of 170g.
On the front side there is the usual 2.5D glass covering the FHD IPS panel. It is easy to notice how thin bezels but, due to the white color, there is an annoying black frame that interferes with the great design. The upper front side features a real earpiece (unlike the Mi Mix) and the sensors hole that includes both light and proximity sensors.
As regards the lower front side, there is the Fingerprint Scanner built-in into the Home Button, it can't be pressed physically though, and the front-facing camera on the right corner. There is some wasted space where they could have added some touch buttons.
On the back side there is a glossy back cover that seems to be made of Plastic.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by the Flashlight (i am not able to recognize the amount of LEDs) and nothing else. Except from the BLUBOO logo in the center, there isn't anything at all since the speaker is located on the bottom.
Device
Screen
Not being a fan of AMOLED screen, the presence of an IPS panel on this device made me consider it pretty unique compared to other clones. The panel itself is not the best i have ever seen unfortunately, with a noticeable lack of contrast, but with a good white balance and brightness.
Its light sensor doesn't support smooth light changes so do not except an efficient auto-brightness mechanism, and its maximum brightness is enough for decent outdoor usage.
Viewing Angles are as good as you might expect from an IPS panel, nothing to complain about.
Camera
Just like on the BLUBOO S8, also this S1 features the same sensors, a Sony IMX135 (13MP) as a rear camera sensor and a Sony IMX190 (8MP?) as a front camera sensor. Do they work the same on this device? Well...no. It seems that the S1 features a wider-angle lens plus color accuracy is better. I think the new ISP included on the Helio P25 helps a bit for the latter.
Generically speaking, most photos do not look that bad, with a decent amount of details and not too much noise, but sometimes in case of high-light conditions such as outdoors, the software doesn't handle the exposure properly, as you can notice in one of the photos attached below. Shooting with HDR mode on solves the issue, but also requires lots of time to take a shot.
Macros look decent with no focus issues, and due to the exposure issue mentioned before, photos taken using the flashlight look darker than usual. Pretty funny, with flashlight you get darker photos, without you get brighter photos...lol.
As regards Video Recording, videos are recorded at 1080p resolution but there is a serious stuttering issue that causes frame-rate to drop constantly without any reason.
The Front-Camera is placed on the lower front side of the device, so you need to shoot photos with the device upside-down for selfies and so on. Color Accuracy is OK, but there is a pretty high level of noise.
Audio
Considering the limited amount of space available inside the device, it is normal to see that the Speaker is not super-powerful when it comes to volume but it is still loud enough, much better compared to the S8, and there is a little amount of low-frequencies.
No issues found with the Microphone, nothing to report about.
GPS
GPS Quality is not good at all unfortunately, with unstable and not accurate signal outdoors, and inexistent signal indoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, with excellent signal reception and able to reach the same speed i reach on my daily Redmi Note 4. High quality 4G antennas have been used.
The same applies for the WiFi. With 5GHz networks support, connected at 135Mbps, the device is able to use my VDSL internet bandwidth completely, matching my laptop's WiFi speed. Well Done BLUBOO.
Battery Life
Just like what happened on the S8, also on the S1 the battery capacity doesn't match the declared value, but here the lack of capacity is even higher. (3500mAh declared, real ~2980mAh)
As expected, due to the lack of battery capacity, also battery life is pretty low, reaching only 7h 12m with the PCMark Battery Life test.
I don't know why BLUBOO hides this feature, but i have discovered that even though they include a standard 5V/2A charger, the device is compatible with Mediatek Pump Express up to 9V, so you can quick charge the device. Here you can see the proof, using my LeEco's charger.
Software
Thankfully BLUBOO choose to use a clean Android OS for this device, with no custom UIs or anything weird. It runs on the usual Mediatek AOSP based on Android 7.0 Nougat with August 2017 security patches. Unfortunately, just like what happened on the S8, also on the S1 there is an huge amount of bloarware pre-installed.
Even with that amount of bloatware, the device runs pretty smooth and doesn't stutter even while running intensive tasks.
Just like most Mediatek devices, also this one features the usual set of features such as Gestures, Double tap-to-wake and MiraVision.
Both Gyroscope and Compass/Magnetometer sensors are here.
As expected, when lots of bloatware is pre-installed, malwares are detected. Scan run using Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware.
Its fingerprint scanner is accurate and pretty fast to unlock the device, it isn't lightning fast but still it is one of the best available.
Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – The Mali-T880MP2 GPU together with a FHD screen is simply maxed out, so some scores might not look that high.
AndroBench – Internal Storage performance is good, even though i might have expected an higher write speed.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Unexpectedly, this benchmark seem to run pretty well on this GPU.
GeekBench – Single-Core performance seem to be fine matching other devices with the same CPU, but multi-core performance is really low meaning that something is reducing its real performance. It can't be thermal throttling because the device was not hot during this test.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – Being an hardcore benchmark, it is normal to not see great results here, but it is a good point of referral for GPU's raw performance.
PCMark – Balanced Results for an Helio P25, matching most mid-range devices.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – The same lack of multi-core performance is noticeable here, it should be over 2700 if it was running properly.
Conclusions
This 2017 can be defined as the year of clones, with lots of devices copying each other and unfortunately lack of original design. Can this one differ from all other clones? Well, partially yes, thanks to the lightweight plastic chassis and an IPS screen, but it doesn't mean that it is better, or better, it is better for some things but worse for others.
Its high-quality Mobile and WiFi antennas make it one of the best device i have ever reviewed when it comes to signal reception, but the GPS antenna is disappointing and can't be ignored.
I still like the idea of including using this thin bezels design to make devices compact, but OEMs should also not ignore important parts of the device, otherwise it causes the choice to go for a standard full-bezels design.
Would i recommend it? Just like what happened with the S8, i can't recommend it right now because the OS is infected and i don't want anyone to use a device running on an infected operating system, but if BLUBOO fixes this issue that seems to be widespread for all models, then yes. I will keep following the situation, and if they fix the issue, i will write it here.
Pros:
Compact and Ergonomic
Bright IPS Panel
Lightweight
Running on pure Android with no custom skins
Excellent 3G/4G and WiFi signal reception
Cons:
Not the best IPS panel
Running on an infected Android OS
No Notification LED
Battery Capacity doesn't match the declared value
Disappointing GPS antenna quality

Yes, no NFC here. Unfortunately almost all chinese devices do not have it.
Nice job !
I have this phone since few days, the big problem are those two virus. We really need an alternative ROM and ROOT access on this phone.

Last minute update, i got a reply saying that an OTA Update will be released soon. Let's hope that this is true.
Hi guys !
Somebody have any news about alternative ROM, ROOT, or TWRP ?
best regards.
Dev. & Support thread added to first post.
Thank you Alberto96, hope you get us updated

Double-tap to wake keeps the touchscreen turned on, on such a power-hungry device with relatively small battery that's normal to notice some battery drain.
No workarounds available.
I have this crup 45 days and from the first day the WiFi Disconnected after 2 seconds!!!
i know that i am not the only one with charging problem with another usb-c cable than the provided one. There is other exemples on youtube.
Do you find a working cable? it's not a problem of length of the connector, i have modified one cable to be longer that the origin, and it still not works

[Review] Xiaomi Mi A1

Hi there!
Below is adapted from my original review on gadgetvictims.com
Mi A1 is definitely a good phone for the price but the noise-cancellation bug, well know in MIUI devices is also present in this Android One version .
-----------------
Nobody was fooled by Xiaomi's efforts to explain that MI A1 is not a rebranded 5X, and it is obviously the same device (with possibly a better thermal dissipation plate for countries with hot climate, like India).

The A1 is all about the Android One experience out of the box.
An Android One device basically complies with Google standards, which include some (unclear) minimum hardware requirements, and the provision of security and system updates by Google. The device should also receive the Oreo update around Christmas, if you've been good!
Possibly also -but I'll believe it when I see it- we can expect to get the next Android P (Pancake?) when it comes out.
Features:
5.5-inch FHD display,
Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 @2.0gHz,
4GB of RAM, and 64GB storage + microSD slot
SIM/SD tray for 2 SIM's or 1 SIM+1 microSD
Dual rear cameras:
Main: Omnivision OV12A10, 12MP, f2.2.
Second OmniVision OV13880 12MP f2.6
Front camera: Samsung S5K5E8, 5MP, f2.2
Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, LTE with VoLTE,
3080 mAh battery.
2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: Band B1/B2/B5/B8
4G: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20 TDD-LTE B38/B40
IR blaster
Back lit soft keys
Notification LED (white)
Unpacking
The Global version comes with a standard 5V2A charger, a USB type C cable, a tray pin and the usual leaflet that nobody bothers reading.
As usual with Xiaomi, no accessories are provided. Since the Mi A1 and 5X are identical, there's already a large choice of covers and tempered glass filters to choose from.
It's curious to see a product targeted at the Indian market without any water proofing, (and that factor is equally important for Irish users). So, while the Corning Gorilla 3 should not need further protection, a phone case it always a good idea to protect at least the back side. It won't make it waterproof, but that should help a bit.
While waiting to try a smart flip case, I found the inexpensive ASLING Protective Back Cover to be a nice fit for the black version.
Setting up
The hybrid SIM tray allows either
2 SIM's together
or
1 SIM + 1 MicroSD
So if the 64GB of storage don't suffice, an additional 128GB extension is possible.
Android One experience: so simple it's boring!
The recently reviewed Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime could have been my everyday phone if it wasn't for the MIUI ecosystem, but I must admit that I did enjoy taking time to fine-tune all the customization options.
The Android One experience is the opposite: You're all set just a few minutes!
The initial setup is straightforward, particularly if you had a previous Android device from which apps and settings can be restored.
After that, you're pretty much ready and there's very little fiddling around the system options, even with the System UI Tuner enabled (activated by holding the gear icon in drop down menu for a few seconds).
Suddenly I regret the absence of the wallpaper carousel, the integrated call recorder, some smart gesture options like turn the phone over when busy, or swipe down 3 fingers for screenshot, ...
I wanted a pure vanilla Android experience... I have it!
There's virtually no bloatware (only 2 Xiaomi Feedback and Mi Remote apps which can be uninstalled, at least in the Global edition). The collection of pre-installed apps is kept to the bare minimum, to the point it feels incomplete: for instance, there no FM radio app despite the presence of the hardware (which can be verified in the Hardware Test Menu *#*#64663#*#*)
That's not an acceptable solution and none of the FM radio apk's I tried worked, so it's down to Xiaomi to resolve this in a future update.
Cameras:
The A1 is really a snapper I could live with! The Omnivision sensors may not be prestigious like Sony and Samsung are, but they deliver some nice pictures, with fast focus for sharp pictures, even with HDR.
I normally avoid using the flash at all cost with a smartphone, but the dual tone LED's have proven to be usable, as seen with the shot of the white orchids below, taken in almost complete darkness.
See here for the full picture sample
The manual mode offer a good range of controls and the manual focus is particularly well thought with the assistance of a focus peaking function.
While low cost brands like Bluboo, Doogee, Oukitel, will probably never be able to use their dual camera unless Google releases a camera API supporting them, Xiaomi (and other big players like Huawei, and HTC, ...) can afford to develop their own camera software!
As a result, the A1 dual camera phones can achieve an authentic Bokeh / depth effect (enabled via the Portrait Mode icon) rather than just layer of blurred circles.
The 5 megapixel camera on the selfie side does a decent job despite the absence of a flash and offers a large collection of creative filters. The results lack the level of details offered by the selfie-centric Redmi Note 5A, but are still quite good.
Video recording: not the A1 strong point!
Videos can be recorded in SD, HD, FHD and 4K.
Slo-mo initially didn't work at all but the bug has been fixed with the September Security update.
There's no "focus hunting" problem as such, just a quick but noticeable back-and-forth move each time the focus adjusts to a different subject.
In any case, the videos fail to impress, due principally to the lack of stabilization. A post-recording stabilization can be applied afterward via the embedded editor but the result is terrible!
Adding to it, the deteriorated sound recording quality contributes further in making the A1 a pathetic camcorder.
Sound quality: very good and very bad!
(I know how it sounds but please read on!)
The very good:
Since USB Type C can also output audio, it is often a good excuse to ditch the old 3.5mm earphone jack but Xiaomi kept both! Great!
The music playback through the internal speakers or via the headphones is clear and loud enough, and Xiaomi products are usually good at this.
The very bad:
The troubles start when recording your own sound with either the camera or an audio recording app.
Although it should only be active during phone calls, the dedicated noise cancelling microphone keeps fulfilling its duty during video and audio recordings, adding a weird flanger effect while trying to cancel the "noise" surrounding the voice!
https://youtu.be/6IPtygXJbjk
I discovered this popular Xiaomi noise cancellation bug first with the Redmi Note 5A, but only after a while because my first videos where made in a quiet environment. Then I came to record a public ceremony with loud rounds of applause, and discovered that the sound track had been almost completely muted!
It's quite a bid deal to me as I like to record some excellent bands performing in local pubs. In such typically loud environment, that bug is disastrous!
I hoped that it was confined to MIUI but the A1 is not spared and the bug is so widespread that it's becoming a Xiaomi trademark!
Until Xiaomi eventually acknowledge and fix the problem, I'll have to use other ways for that kind of task (like an Android watch, they make excellent sound recorders).
Battery life, Encryption and Performance
Embarking a 3050mAh battery would have been probably presumptuous with a Mediatek processor, but with a Snapdragon 625 it's a different story.
I could stretch it up to 48 hours of mixed use on a single charge, taking pictures (a lot), playing video games (a little) and watching videos. Of course this varies with each other lifestyle but most users should comfortably achieve a full day without having to keep an eye on the battery indicator.
In this Global Edition, the accompanying charger is a standard 5V2A and the phone definitely does not support Quick Charging.
In any case, it takes 2 hours to fully charge the battery.
The phone storage is encrypted by default, but this had no visible impact on performance when launching apps.
I can't think of an app that would give hard time to an 8-core 2016MHz processor with 4GB RAM.
Some benchmark scores:
Antutu: ~63000,
Geekbench 857/4167
Generous set of sensors, but no NFC
The list of sensors is quite complete with magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, step detector, and Hall (for smart covers).
The fingerprint sensor is lighting fast just as expected after trying the lower range Redmi 5A. It also conveniently double as a way to scroll down the notification bar.
The picture below should tell enough about the GPS, no surprise.
Screen
The bright and vibrant [email protected] is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3.
It feels very smooth and does not keep the fingerprints too much.
The viewing quality and contrasts are very good but maybe I'm not the best judge as I felt the same with the HD-only screen of the cheaper Redmi Note 5A.
There's still a good 1.5cm at the bottom of the screen just dedicated to the soft keys, which is a bit old-fashionish in this bezel-less era, but at least they're back lit.
IR Blaster: (and yes, this is a copy/paste from my previous review)
The A1 can be used as an IR remote controller.
Conclusion
According to a poll on miui forum, the preference between the 2 models is evenly balanced:
Xiaomi and Google may have achieved a mutually beneficial deal with this phone by combining the quality of Xiaomi hardware and the authentic Android experience in the first convincing implementation of the Android One project.
You're it, until you're dead or I find someone better! [J. Rasczak, Starship Troopers]
None of the recently reviewed Android phones could decide me to finally put my good old Xperia Z1 to rest.
With its solid performance, large storage, latest Android and excellent camera, the A1 did this!
It is not faultless however and I'm not done with Xiaomi about the noise-cancellation bug!
The Mi A1 (like the Mi 5X) is priced around 200€.
If, like me, you want an unspoiled Android experience but are not willing to sell a kidney but still get a stable, well built phone with a great camera, this may be the Android you're looking for!
Good:
Fast and straightforward setup
Great dual camera
Notification LED
Back lit soft keys
Not good:
Noise cancelling bug
FM Radio present but app missing
Limited customization options
No stabilization for video recording
No NFC

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the DOOGEE MIX Lite.
Hardware
After the 5.5 inches Xiaomi Mi MIX clone, the MIX, DOOGEE choose to develop a more compact and entry-level version of it, the MIX Lite, with a 5.2 inches HD display, a low-end Mediatek MT6737 SOC under the hood with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of Storage. Compared to the MIX, the performance downgrade is obvious, but we are talking about two different price targets.
Unboxing
Packaging comes with the usual amount of accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/1A USB Charger, 1x User Guide, 1x Warranty Card, 1x TPU Cover, 1x Plastic Screen Protector, and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied, also on the back.
Just like the MIX, also this one features a Metal Chassis with a Glass Back Panel and thin bezels. It feels really solid, but, at least on my unit, i am able to notice some glue near the chassis and the back glass.
It is 13.77x7.36x0.88cm, really compact considering the 5.2 inches screen, but it weights 182g, a bit too much considering the size so it is slightly noticeable in hand.
On the front side there is the 2.5D Curved Display and the upper front side of the device features a slim Earpiece and a Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. No Notification LED is here.
As regards the lower front side, there is the fingerprint scanner (that can't be pressed, works as a soft-touch button) with a Front-Facing Camera on the left. No soft-keys are there, so just like on the MIX, there is some wasted space.
On the back side there is the Glass Panel i mentioned before with a really nice paint-work that creates impressive effects with the light.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight, with a DOOGEE logo just below.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything important at all since the Speaker is located on the lower side of the device.
Device
Screen
Believe it or not, but i find this IPS panel way superior compared to the AMOLED panel used on the MIX. To-be-honest, i like full-blacks that AMOLEDs offer, but i also like realistic accurate colors. This 5.2 inches IPS panel is great, one of the best i have ever found on a smartphone, with excellent color accuracy and white balance.
Its light sensor supports smooth light changes with a maximum brightness of ~380lux, but there is a software issue that causes the screen to flicker at minimum brightness (easy-to-fix: just increase the minimum brightness value)
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from a good IPS screen.
Camera
Instead of a 16MP camera sensor found on the MIX, on the MIX Lite there a 13MP sensor, still made by Samsung, that still offers a nice amount of details and in some conditions it even works better. I won't talk about the dual camera bokeh effect since it is well-known that the effect isn't satisfying on Mediatek devices.
HDR works decently and photos look decent, as good as you would expect from this camera sensor.
The flashlight brightness level is identical to the MIX, so not super powerful, but enough to provide some extra light to the sensor in low-light conditions.
As regards Video Recording, the camera shots videos at 720p25 with a nice picture quality and overall stable frame-rate. Can't get any better on a MT6737 due to DSP limitations.
Front-Facing Camera Quality is pretty impressive. The 8MP Samsung S5K4H5YC camera sensor provides vibrant colors while still keeping low the noise level, something rare for front-facing sensors. Even though it is mounted on the bottom just like on the MIX, the software provides a way to shot photos while keeping the device upside-down.
Audio
Unfortunately the audio department, that on the MIX wasn't already that great, isn't great also here. Starting from the Earpiece, the volume is pretty low even when it is set to the maximum level, while the Speaker is quiet and the produced sound is slightly distorted. A bit disappointing.
Luckily the Microphone is OK, no issues to report about it, everyone was able to hear me properly while in-call.
GPS
GPS Quality is awful, there is no other way to describe it, the signal is almost inexistent outdoors and not 100% stable. Imho, it may be an hardware issue with my review unit, but i can't be 100% sure yet since this is a pretty new device.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Providing full european bands support (with 4G Band 20), the device was able to keep a stable connection to my 4G Network, with decent speeds (considering other devices tested in the same place) but minimum signal. Considering the speed, i think the signal bars are not properly calibrated.
There is no 5.0GHz WiFi support here, but connected to my 2.4GHz WiFi Network, the signal is stable, high and there are no speed issues at all, a great result for the connection speed.
Battery Life
Slightly lower real battery capacity than the declared value, ~2972mAh vs 3080mAh.
Compared to other devices with the same SOC and Battery Capacity, the PCMark Battery Test isn't bad at all. Slightly better than the big brother DOOGEE MIX, the MIX Lite is able to reach almost 9 hours of usage based on the benchmark.
As regards battery charging times, due to the low-power 5V/1A charger, it takes a while to fully charge, just a little more than 3 hours. It is locked by software so it isn't possible to speed it up.
Software
Something i really appreciate about this MIX Lite is the way its software has been developed. First of all, the annoying DOOGEE Launcher found on the MIX isn't there (i guess they heard all complains from users) plus there is no bloatware at all, even Parallel Space is missing. This is a really nice move and i hope to see future DOOGEE devices with the same clean OS.
The OS is based on the usual Mediatek Release of Android 7.0 Nougat with October's Security Patches. It runs smooth, with no major lags (don't forget the low-end CPU inside) and, i won't stop repeating this, the clean OS really make you enjoy it.
All Mediatek Features such as MiraVision, Gestures (tap-to-wake...) and Scheduled Power On/Off are there, with the addition of LiveDisplay.
Unfortunately there is no Gyroscope or Magnetometer/Compass, just like on most MT6737 devices, but still an important downgrade compared to the standard MIX.
No malwares detected with Kaspersky Mobile Antivirus using latest definitions. I am testing this new software instead of MalwareBytes just to see which one is more accurate.
The Fingerprint Scanner works decently, it is accurate, but a bit slow to unlock the device.
Review (part 2)
3DMark – Being a low-end SOC, it isn't possible to expect great 3D performance here.
AndroBench – Not the best eMMC i have ever tested on a MT6737 platform, pretty entry-level internal storage performance. Read Speed is OK though.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – Barely reaching ~27 FPS, GPU performance is just enough for light gaming.
GeekBench – CPU Performance is nearly as good as other CPUs with the same configuration (4x Cortex-A53), enough to handle most daily usage activities.
CPU
Compute
GFXBench – The same thoughts said for 3DMark are valid here.
PCMark – Pretty standard results for this CPU/GPU, with the storage score impacted by the low write speed.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
Vellamo – Low-end performance is confirmed by all these tests.
Conclusions
The DOOGEE MIX Lite...is Lite the correct way to call it? Well, in my opinion, it is a bit too much "lite" compared to the original MIX, even though i am not able to find a better word for it. Anyway, this device is great for its compact size and excellent screen quality, but there are also some essential things that should have been better such as the Earpiece/Speaker and GPS.
Hopefully with the upcoming software updates it will get better, but in the current state, it is a device worth to be considered only in case of specific needs where an alternative can't be choosen, like for someone that doesn't like big smartphones or for those who want to get a Mi Mix like design but can't spend the amount of money asked for the standard MIX.
Pros:
Solid Build Quality
Excellent Screen
Impressive Front-Facing Camera
Clean and Smooth OS with no Bloatware
Cons:
No Notification LED
No Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Slightly Heavy
Awful GPS Quality
Disappointing Earpiece and Speaker Quality

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the OUKITEL K6.
Hardware
Coming as the first Helio P23 device ever released on the market (correct me if i am wrong), this new K6 should be the successor to the K6000 Plus. It could be easily considered as the second flagship, together with the MIX 2, from OUKITEL since the specs are not bad at all. It comes with 6GB of RAM, 64GB of ROM an
d an huge 6300mAh battery.
Unboxing
Unlike the K8000 reviewed before, this K6 comes with a whole new packaging that also looks more premium, even inside. The amount of included accessories is still the same: 1x Type-C USB Cable, 1x 5V/3A USB Charger (not sure whether this is a Pump Express charger or not), 1x User Manual, 1x SIM Card Removal Tool, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x OTG Cable, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
The K6 doesn't feature anymore a full-metal chassis found on the K6000, but they choose to go with a plastic back cover (not-removable) instead. That's a pity because it is something that makes a device more premium. Anyway, the plastic cover doesn't seem to affects its solidity too much, even though i can notice some minor imperfections where the plastic touches the metal body. Also, i will never understand the need to remove the 3.5mm Headphone Jack on thick devices. There are just no valid reasons that would justify this, and i am not the only one to think the same.
As a battery phone with a 5.99" 18:9 screen and 6300mAh of battery, it is almost obvious to not expect a compact device. It is 15.8x7.61x1.08cm with a weight of 263g, really heavy considering the size. I don't understand why it is so heavy considering the plastic back cover.
This is probably one of the most complete devices i have ever reviewed, since it includes both Front Flashlight and Notification LED (RGB) on the upper front side while still keeping the reasonably thin bezel. Of course there is also a Front Camera, the Earpiece and Light/Proximity sensors.
Nothing to complain about the Notification LED, it is really bright and RGB.
On the lower front side there isn't anything at all.
As regards the back side, it features, as already said, a plastic non-removable cover with a nice-looking light effect. Still, it is plastic so expect to scratch it easily. I may recommend to use a screen protector also on the back in order to not ruin the effect.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor with a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight on the left, and a Fingerprint Scanner just below.
Just like most latest devices, there isn't anything important except the OUKITEL logo on the lower back side.
Device
Screen
Compared to the MIX 2 5.99" 18:9 screen, the one used on the K6 is, in my opinion, not as good as i would have expected. Colors look slightly washed out even after some calibration using MiraVision, and i can notice a minor smearing effect while scrolling menus. It seems to be a common issue for this kind of rounded screens, since i found a similar issue on another device reviewed some weeks ago, so it might be a software issue or just a limit of this first gen of panels. Hopefully in the future this will only get better.
Nothing to complain about the light sensor, and the screen brightness is high enough for a sufficient visibility under direct sunlight.
The rounded corners do not seem to affect viewing angles at all, as good as they should be on a IPS panel.
Camera
Identical to the MIX 2, this K6 features a Samsung 16MP rear camera sensor that, together with the new Helio P23 ISP (Image Signal Processor), does seem to provide some great shots. HDR works decently, and the amount of image noise is not too high, as long as the available light is high enough of course. An overall good result.
Also the Flashlight seems to work properly, no out-of-sync issues neither lack of light. Powerful enough, maybe a dual-tone variant would have been better.
Excellent results as regards the Camcorder. Videos are recorded in 1080p30 with a really stable framerate, no stuttering and high image quality. Currently the best Mediatek device ever tested in this area.
The front-camera sensor is, unfortunately, unknown (was not able to obtain the codename) but it should be an 8MP camera sensor interpolated to 13MP. Thanks to the Flashlight, it is possible to obtain some pretty decent shots even in low-light conditions. Pretty average quality.
Audio
It is pretty common for most smartphone to not feature a really powerful speaker, especially with latest models where, due to the bezels reduction, the space for a big chamber is slowly decreasing. This K6 is not exception. It doesn't feature a really loud speaker unit, but the sound is clean and there is a minor amount of low frequencies.
Unfortunately though, just like on the MIX 2, the Earpiece seem to produce a slightly distorted sound at highest volume. This is where the lack of a proper sound chamber is noticeable. Anyway, it is loud enough.
Nothing to complain about the Microphone, it is properly calibrated, and the lack of a secondary microphone does not seem to affect much the quality. Perfectly usable for calls and video recording.
GPS
Excellent results for the GPS. An high amount of satellites gets locked, even indoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
The device is meant to be used with European Networks (Band 20 included), just like most Chinese devices that are sold with EU Plug chargers. As regards the signal, i was not able to find any issue or lack of network connection, and the speed test run on 4G confirms it. Not a bad result.
For some reason, Mediatek keeps providing a WiFi N-only card even for last-gen mid-range chipsets, thus there is no WiFi AC support on this device. Still, 5GHz WiFi N networks are perfectly working. Connected to my home network, the device is able to use my internet bandwidth completely.
Battery Life
Starting from the Battery Capacity, i was not able to confirm the 6300mAh battery capacity declared by OUKITEL, instead i get a result of ~6090mAh. They declare a minimum of 6000mAh, but a typical of 6300mAh is definitely unrealistic considering it (it is usually ~100mAh higher from the min, not that much).
Battery Life is just outstanding compared to the previous gen Helio P20/25. The PCMark Battery Life test provided a result of 22 hours and 5 minutes, able to last at least two days of heavy usage (or one if you don't sleep...just kidding). Test run at minimum brightness, with WiFi on and Sync on.
OUKITEL seem to be really proud of the choice to use a 5V/3A charger (Pump Express 3?) for this device. They are not alone, OnePlus also uses a 5V charger with even higher current. Based on some testing made by external websites, this reduces the device temperature while keeping the charging speed high. Is it really making a difference compared to a standard up to 12V quick charger? Well, i was not able to notice that much difference as regards the charging speed, but the device felt noticeable cooler to the touch.
Software
Different from previous devices reviewed in the past, this is the first one that comes with Android 7.1 instead of 7.0, probably due to the newer BSP provided by Mediatek for the Helio P23. Unfortunately it isn't Android 8.0 Oreo, but i guess it will be updated really soon.
The OS is clean, there is no bloatware pre-installed excluding a third-party keyboard that can be disabled, and it runs pretty smooth with no lags neither slow-downs.
Something even more interesting about this K6 is the NFC Antenna. As far as i know, this is the first time OUKITEL implements this feature, so well done for this choice. Unfortunately i can't test Android Pay here in Italy so...i need your user feedback about its compatibility.
All Mediatek Goodies such as MiraVision, Gestures (double-tap to unlock included) and others are included.
An extra feature has been included with this model: Face ID/Face Unlock. How does it work? It just uses the front facing camera to recognize your face, do not rely on it if you care about your device's security. Period (also clearly written in the warning).
Both Gyroscope and Magnetometer/Compass are present.
No malwares detected with Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware using latest definitions.
As regards the Fingerprint Scanner, it is really accurate, but slightly slow. Personally, i prefer accuracy more than speed, but if an OTA Update will be able to speed-up the reading process, it would be even better.
Review (part 2)
Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0), V1 - GPU Benchmark Pro and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – Even though this Helio P23 comes with a new-gen Mali-G71 GPU, it is less powerful compared to the one found on the Helio P25. Not a bad result, but pretty average.
AndroBench – No words about this result, it is just outstanding for an eMMC 5.1.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
GeekBench – For some reasons, it fails to get an internet connection. To know more: http://support.primatelabs.com/discussions/geekbench/23518-not-internet-connection-detected
GFXBench – This benchmark is just too much for not high-end devices.
PCMark – Somehow this benchmark gets higher results compared to the Helio P25. As i always say, software optimizations are more important compared to raw performance, and this is the proof.
Work 2.0
Computer Vision
Storage
Work 1.0
V1 - GPU Benchmark Pro – Using the Snapdragon 820 preset, 3D performance seem to be a bit low for really heavy games. Consider to reduce graphics quality for a smoother experience.
Vellamo – Overall good results considering the CPU, somewhere in between the MT6750T and the Helio P25.
Conclusions
Being the first devices ever released by OUKITEL with such high specs, together with the MIX 2, i am not so surprised to see that some areas are not as good as they should have been. They always focused on battery life more than performance, and this new strategy can only help them to get better and better, device after device.
This is an overall good device, i like the thin bezels and also the new Helio P23 that seems to be way more power efficient compared to previous alternatives provided by Mediatek. Still, the lack of an headphone jack on such a thick device is really non-sense.
I recommend it to those looking for a battery phone that features almost everything, with no great requirements for gaming.
Pros:
Android 7.1 instead of the usual 7.0
NFC Support
Notification LED
Gyroscope & Magnetometer/Compass
Excellent Battery Life
Cons:
No 3.5mm Headphone Jack (adapter-only)
Not released with Android 8 Oreo
Noticeable smearing effect while scrolling menus/pages
Really heavy considering the plastic back cover
Requires longer than standard USB plugs

Video review from me
Review (part 1)
Introduction
NOTE: This review has been almost completely unified with the K6 review since, basically, they are exactly the same device just with a different body and battery. Hardware-wise, everything is identical.
This is the OUKITEL K10.

Hardware
Just a little white after the K6 release, this big brother K10 can be defined as the K6's big brother, just with a massive 11000mAh battery, a 5V/5A ultra-fast charger (similar to OnePlus Dash Charge technology) and packed in a plastic body, probably to save on weight. Other specs are identical to the K6.
Unboxing
Following the K6 package, this K10 features a similar set of accessories: 1x Type-C USB 3.0 Cable, 1x 5V/5A USB Charger (new gen of Pump Express?), 1x Type-C to Headphone Jack Dongle, 1x User Manual, 1x SIM Card Removal Tool, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x Plastic Screen Protector, 1x OTG Cable, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied.
As mentioned before, this K10 features a full-plastic body that, of course, doesn't provide the same solid feeling that a Metal chassis does, but it is well-made, no imperfections noticed and it is curved-enough for ergonomics. Something worth to be reported is the fact that it is really easy to leave some marks on the plastic, so i highly recommend to keep the TPU case even though it makes it even more bulky.
Unfortunately, the same design flaw about the USB connector is present on this K10 too, thus you need to use the included USB cable only to charge it properly, otherwise most other cables would not work. If interested, you need a pretty long USB-C connector in order to get a stable connection.
Well it is useless to discuss about its size and weight, a device with such a massive battery can't be slim neither light. It is 16.7x7.841x1.43cm with a weight of 290g. Hard to judge, this is the compromise to accept in order to get such a big battery.
On the upper front side there is pretty much everything you would need: Light/Proximity Sensors, Flashlight, Notification LED (RGB), Earpiece and Camera.
Also the Notification LED is exactly the same as on the K6, here is one of the colors it supports, but it is RGB.
On the lower front side there isn't anything at all.
As regards the back side, there is the plastic non-removable cover featuring a "leather" (doesn't feel real leather to me) pattern that adds some grip if used without any cover. I really like the shape used for the camera/fingerprint frame, even though it looks a bit not proper for such a stylish design. Odd.
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor with a Dual-LED - Single-Tone Flashlight on the left, and a Fingerprint Scanner just below.
An iconic OUKITEL logo on the lower back side ends the unboxing ^^.

Camera (taken from the K6)
Identical to the MIX 2, this K6/K10 features a Samsung 16MP rear camera sensor that, together with the new Helio P23 ISP (Image Signal Processor), does seem to provide some great shots.
Audio (taken from the K6)
GPS (taken from the K6)
Excellent results for the GPS. An high amount of satellites gets locked, even indoors.
Indoors on the left, outdoors on the right.
Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi (taken from the K6)
The device is meant to be used with European Networks (Band 20 included), just like most Chinese devices that are sold with EU Plug chargers. As regards the signal, i was not able to find any issue or lack of network connection, and the speed test run on 4G confirms it. Not a bad result.

Battery Life
Due to its battery design, it is kinda messy to measure the real capacity, so i am cycling the battery before measuring it with my USB Tester. Meanwhile, i disassembled the device in order to provide you some info about its battery cells. Technically it should contain 2 x 5050mAh cells in parallel, but i can't confirm it yet. Cells made by BAK, Serial Number shown in photo.
Considering the result obtained on the K6 (22 hours), 38 hours and 7 minutes based on the PCMark Battery Test might confirm the 11000mAh battery capacity. Test run at minimum brightness, Sync On, WiFi On.
Just like on the K6, this K10 features the same charging technology, but with an higher amperage to compensate the extra battery capacity, using a 5V/5A Charger. Still, based on my measurements, the device doesn't use more than ~4.2A, probably the cable is not able to handle so much current.
Software (mostly taken from the K6)
Different from previous devices reviewed in the past, this is the first one that comes with Android 7.1 instead of 7.0, probably due to the newer BSP provided by Mediatek for the Helio P23. Unfortunately it isn't Android 8.0 Oreo, but i guess it will be updated really soon.
The OS is clean, there is no bloatware pre-installed excluding a third-party keyboard that can be disabled, and it runs pretty smooth with no lags neither slow-downs.
Both K6 and K10 feature an NFC antenna, but again i can't test Android Pay here in Italy so...i need your user feedback about its compatibility. On the K6 it wasn't working at the time of the release but it has been fixed after a while, the same may happen for this K10.

Conclusions
After having tested the K6 i was already pretty satisfied of what OUKITEL managed to obtain considering previous devices from the same brand, and the same applies for this K10, since both hardware & software are almost exactly the same. Sadly they kept the same downsides found on the K6, but at least there isn't any extra negative aspect.
So, the first question that someone might have is: "Why should i choose the K10 over the K6?". Well, this highly depends on your requirements. If you don't mind about the size, weight and build quality, then the K10 is a good choice to get that extra battery life, and i can recommend it.
This is quite an achivement for OUKITEL considering that this is the smartphone with the biggest REAL battery ever released, after the K10000 Pro released some months ago. A battery king.
Pros:
Android 7.1 instead of the usual 7.0
Equipped with everything (NFC, Gyroscope, Notif. LED...)
Excellent Fast Charger
Powerhouse and power-efficient
Easy to disassembly
Cons:
No 3.5mm Headphone Jack (adapter-only)

yes that's right.
I thought they are using a pair of 5.500mah batteries. Waiting for the phone shipped to me.
Anyone has any experience rooting and flashing custom rom yet on this device?
I am concerned about spyware.
Planning to flash lineage OS as soon as i got my hands on this device.
Has this phone a locked bootloader?
(if yes, is there a unlock method?)
There is, around internet (need......), a ported TWRP for this phone.
The istructions to install it say to flash (using flashtools) twrp.img and also boot.img (why also boot.img ?).
In other internet sites say that first need to unlock bootloader......
Is there anybody that successfully installed twrp (and root)? Please say how to.
Anybody knows custom rom(s) for this phone?

If OUKITEL doesn't solve your issue via the support email (contact them via FB too just in case), and AliExpress doesn't sell any replacement part yet, then it is not possible to buy it.

Well done, i think this is a new one since MalwareBytes was not able to find it. We should send a report to all major anti-virus/anti-malware companies so that this crap will be detected in the future.
Hi! Could anyone with this phone test something for me?
If you take a photo of a white piece of paper like a book page, manual, ID card, receipt, etc with the flash enabled, does the camera under exposure after the flash and capture a blurry, overexposed photo?
You should use comodo antivirus for Android as well as eset antivirus, not just Malwarebytes anti-malware and you will see that beautysnap, aiwinn photo album and quite possible the keyboard app facemoji.lite keyboare is malware and viruses. I would suggest blocking them or uninstalling them as the antivirus apps I mentioned are very good at detecting Chinese malware and viruses, the comodo and eset apps.
