Android One Port from Mi A1 for Mi 5s - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Hi guy's,
I love Stock Android and the current design (API and UI) of pixel smartphones - since Google has really done a lot of work with a lot of style in it.
My Generations: I came from HTC HD2 (Android, Windows Mobile, Windows Phone 7, Ubuntu Touch ect.)... next smartphone was the Galaxy S3 LTE (I flash the official Google Play Edition with a must for change the IMEI ect.), next was the HTC One M8 also converted to a GPE and my before last smarthphone was the Mi 4 LTE (with Windows Phone 10). Always the good alternative to the smartphone interested me. Now it interests me whether someone of you the bother and work dare to build this ROM (http://en.miui.com/thread-825694-1-1.html). The Nexus Experience: http://www.nxrom.us/mi5s.html
This seems to me to be somewhat too imprecise and has not the perfection that Project brings with it. Simply it is not a pureness Pixel/Nexus-feeling (the live wallpaper did not run, the Download Manager is missing, the setting menu is not 100% original etc. It lot is missing here and there) ...
I would like to help, because for me the build up of ROM's when it comes to the interface/UI and a bit around compiling the API, is an easiness for me (-
I would look forward to like-minded and teamwork. The whole thing should simply be a pleasure for the general public and be financed without money, even to learn about it :highfive:

I have a 5s with unlocked bootloader, installed Ressurection Remix 7.1.2 together with Nova Launcher (to enabled gestures) and Pixel camera port.
If you take away the amoled display og the Pixel, the Xiaomi 5s basically is a Pixel spec'ed phone for 1/3 of the price. If you want even more stock android feeling then go for LinageOS?

I really do not understand who would even buy Mi A1 which is in same price range as Mi 5s... Mi 5s have better hardware on first place, than even if you need stock rom, there is always LOS which is official for Mi 5s. I rest my case...

Guy's I mean the Pure Pixel Experience, everyone here who have a Stock Pixel with Oreo or Nougat in his hands? My friend have a Pixel, he work hard to get this phone but I do not agree to spend much money, only to own a Stock Clean Rom although it is cheaper. You can't compare the Nexus Experience Rom (I link in my last post above) and also LOS or any other ROM not with the original Pixel Rom. It must nevertheless be possible to build a Clone for the Mi 5s like the Mi 5 (see here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/rom-pure-nexus-t3578407).
I will ask the developer there, if he with help of me and other users from XDA to build a clean ROM. Still thank you for giving me suggestions, I really appreciate your time!
Have a nice day -cheers

I'm using opengapps to bring pixel launcher, assistant, and whatever google facility on it, but remember that none can clone pixel exactly the same. In case you won't get unlimited original sized photo backup, only real google pixel has it.
If you want pixel like experience you can flash LOS or whatever pure aosp then flash open gapps. You can adjust which to install or remove stock los apps using gapps config, go to opengapps wiki for it.

I mean the System UI and Settings don't look or have the same features egg., example the most AOSP Rom's for Mi 5s don't have Ambient Display Settings or Reading/Night Mode. Also the Google Live Wallpaper are not working and not included in the current GApps. The Rom's missing apps, for example the wallpaperpicker.apk ect.
Okay I must build my own Pixel Experience to get nearly a perfect Copy/Clone of an Pixel /XL. But yes, I will try my best to get a better Experience Rom and share my TWRP Backup here on XDA. Included Magisk and some Kernel Tweaks. The last Time I get a big battery drain with the current Nexus Experience Rom cauz I have enabled the Fingerprint Scan-Fix for Xiaomi Mi 5s (search on XDA for it). I find out that the 4 Cores working eveytime but with the current Miui 9 Rom on Idle, two of the four Cores from SD821 sleeping and the other 2 runs with 300-500 Mhz. That's a nice Kernel Management in Idle State and I tweak it

OnePlus or Xiaomi Mi 6

Hi All!,
I am a current OnePlus 3t user, and it's a great phone. I was looking to get a new phone for 2 main reasons:
The space on the OnePlus I have is limitted to 64 Gb, I am running out.
With the new Snapdragon 835 out, I thought I'd look for a phone with that if I were to upgrade.
So I thought I'd check out the OnePlus 5, however the price of it put me off. Having done some research, I really like the look of the Xiaomi Mi 6. However there are a few things that are still making me reconsider:
The reviews I have seen have commented the software is buggy. It crashes and stops working at times. The software on the OnePlus 3T just works. I've not had any problems. If I get the Mi6, will it be a case of buying a buggy phone?
Also with the software, I've never used MiUi, and personally I like the simplicity and near stock Android on the OnePlus. How big of a change is the MiUi and is it customisable?
Does the Mi6 have the ability to capture RAW images?
Thanks in advance! :good:
I migrated quickly to Xiaomi.EU ROM when I purchased Mi6, although I didn't have any problem with (fake) supplied ROM.
I've used my mom's 3T for quite a bit, and the stock Android feel of OxygenOS and frequent and fast update from OnePlus is the big... plus.
MIUI, on the other hand, has very bad notification handling. It feels like you're using Android 4.2/4.4 something. You can't swipe left/right on the lockscreen notifications to make them go away, nor you can't expand it nicely like in pure android (You can do it on notification shade however, using 2 fingers, but the experience just sucks). I tried floatify to emulate the notification in stock android, but it's not enough.
MIUI for Mi6 hasn't provided RAW capture capability AFAIK.
OnePlus 5 has released their kernel source, so dev can easily start working custom ROM on that. But Xiaomi has been notorious keeping the kernel source for a long time (about 6 months+ on previous flagship), that makes the non-MIUI based ROM harder to develop.
I'm currently trying to get LineageOS installed on my Mi6, I'll post more on that LineageOS thread maybe tomorrow evening or the day after.
There is always some plus and minus. I’ve been using Xiaomi 5 Pro and I’m very happy {:m034:}
I used to have One+1 and One+3. Both were great phones.
With perfect Quality/Price factor. Even with EU prices:-/
Now I had been waiting for One+5 and all-around I’m very disappointed wit it.
Reason?
USB 2, No OIS, Software AND Price for EU!!!
It’s not the Flagship killer anymore, it starts to be exclusive peace of equipment.
My main decision point (quality/price factor) dropped down rapidly.
I really prefer MIUI in comparison to Cyanogen (1+1) or OxygenOS (1+3).
With weekly Globe-Roms upgrade (http://mi-globe.com) I’m really satisfied. Mi 5 works very smooth.
OK., it’s with open boot loader and rooted, but all my phoned have been same way in the past
(and will be in future )
I do not remember what I used in the first case, but in 1+3, I changed it to Resurrection Remix ROM.
I agree that all Oneplus society forum support is great. Same with software developers.
I hope that here in MIUI world it will be the same soon.
Especially that after all comparisons of my own, I decided to order Mi 6, 6/128 one.
))
Without any doubt the mi6, and specially if you can buy it at 369USD in some aliexpress offers.
I just Got the Mi 6 pro. Fresh in my hand. It looks great, and feels excellent. It's running very smooth at the moment but hey, is brand new.
I have my 3t on hand.
I think most of the comments are correct. One plus updates quick esp of your on the beta stream, it's smooth and you don't have to deal with MIUI overlay - the OnePlus launcher is excellent.
The Mi 6 is very emotional - what the 3T has and the 5 does not.
Practically, get the 5....you know what to expect. The Mi6 feels great though.....!
I have to edit this: having had the phone for a week - the Mi6 is the smoothest, fastest phone in town right now, period, including the S8 Plus. It's very slick indeed, very, very quick, had an excellent camera and great Sound.
It's very difficult to put the Mi6 down and pick up any of the other phones.

It's gone. That was the 28 June sale on a couple of sellers. I bought mine then, still waiting for it to be posted...
On the same boat. I have been reading about the touchscreen delay problems, bluetooth connectivity and some other bugs and i am hesitant to do the leap of faith on mi6.
One plus 5 on the other hand has such community and gets so many updates that you are sure that software problems will be fixed as soon as possible.

If you find bugs on MI 6,you can tell the developers of Xiaomi to fix them.
I got both the op5 and Mi6, the op5 has an real deal-breaker with the "jelly screen" design flaw. As for now there is no fix and oneplus says its "natural". So the Mi6 is an better choice for me.

i recon that bluetooth bugs have existed with the launch and they are yet to get a 'fix'.
Updates for global seem non existant but on the other hand thats what you get for the mi series. Xiaomi is pretty great for international devices, mainly speaking about the redmi series. Rest seem to be left untouched(Mi mix, note 2, mi5 s etc).
I am gonna hold myself from buying this yet.

Please can someone port MIUI on One plus 5t?

Is there someone who can port MIUI on this device?
Really that heavy skin instead of oxygen os . .
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk
I personally hate the MIUI skin and the bloatware it adds with the ROM....
you might like it but OxygenOS is much more elegant
Ah the moment i'm on Liquid Remix 9 based on Oreo 8.1... It's a great rom but I don't like so much aosp based rom.... I prefer Miui or Samsung experience....
Up for this. Please make a MIUI rom.
+1, can sb port miui??

He bought a phone that is cheaper and developer friendly. The entire point of android is customization. He likes MIUI, you don't. Doesn't mean you are right or he is.
I wouldn't mind a MIUI port for it. Almost always running KLWP but just something with MIUI under the hood that feels more practical. OxygenOS, TouchWiz etc always leave me missing something. Then again, I been a MI phone user since MI2 so I might be biased
First of all my first phone is a Samsung S8 but I like customization and I can't customize a lot my S8 because I don't want to trip knox and loose warranty...
So I bought as second phone the 5t which is a great phone, quite cheaper and with a great community...
I use this phone for playing with customization...
Even if before this phone I had a Mi5 (which was a great phone) I didn't buy a new Xiaomi because I would have one phone with Amoled display...
That said, I simply would like to install other vendor ROM (like Miui, Samsung Experience or Emui) for playing with them..
I switched from iOS (ALWAYS JAILBROKEN) iPhone to Android Phone because of my intention to play and try theese Rom, but I would like to do this without having to buy from time to time different Android Phone...
And I thought that One plus 5t would have been a great phone even for trying vendor Rom...
For exemple: MIUI and Emui exist for One plus 3 or 3t... And Miui even for one plus 5...
So I simply would like that some of this Rom (or other vendor port) will arrive even for my 5t

Missing some features - coming from OnePlus3

Hello guys,
so I lost my OnePlus 3 last week and wanted to try out this beautiful Mi Mix 2.
I still have to wait for 2 days until i can unlock my bootloader and in the meantime i tried to setup some features like my OnePlus 3 had. But I just can't find them, i guess they aren't even available.
Gestures? Are gestures on a locked screen possible? I used the V gesture on my OnePlus 3 alot, to turn on the flashlight. I know, that you can bind the flashlight on a hardware key on the mix 2 but i just don't like it.
Proximity Wake? I really liked the feature that the clock showed up, when i picked my phone up from a desk or pulled it out my pants.
Smart Lock? Where the hell are the Google Smart Lock settings? I want that my Mix 2 is unlocked all the time when i'm at home. I want an unlocked phone while it is connected via bluetooth to my car.
My Mix 2 is running the MIUI 9 Global 8.2.8 | Beta.
Could these features be possible with a custom rom?
Thanks
I've had a Oneplus 3 too and i'm not missing this stuff honestly. If you are looking for these specific settings, you should definitely look into custom roms and/or root.
1. No. In LineageOS you can turn the flashlight on/off with holding the power button when lockscreen is off, way more convenient if you ask me.
2. It's an IPS screen, battery life would suffer too much. Still possible in custom roms though.
3. Haven't tried it in MIUI but I think it doesn't work, possibly easy to fix when rooted. Works fine in all AOSP based custom roms though.
I don't know if you have tried custom roms by now, but I can recommend Arasthel's latest LOS15.1. As it's such a mess in the Mix 2 forums and you pretty much have to go through all of the posts, here are all the files you need. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75700363&postcount=149
smart lock is not working with miui despite of dozens of bug reports since about 3 years, don't bother with miui and flash custom rom. many android features are broken or missing with miui, google apps are broken as well (android wear, android auto, ok google from lockscreen, and much more) plus their apps are based on old code with old apis
Yeah I already rooted it and flashed the RR 6.0 Rom and have been using it since two days now and it works like a charm. Google apps and Smart Lock are running perfectly. I use a Substratum theme that mods more or less everything. I'm also running a heavy modded KLWP theme with Nova Launcher and I didn't have one bug/crash so far. Also the battery life is really good.
The only small problem is the camera. I'm running a modded Google camera that is not bad but the stock is still better. Maybe the Mix 2 will get an adequate custom camera app in the future, or maybe I just didn't find the correct one.
And of course I'm still missing the V gesture to turn on the flashlight though .
there is an option in RR to turn on the flashlight with longpress on powerbuton while the screen is off
Yeah I know but I don't like it. It turns on occasionally in my pocket or when I'm pulling it out ?
Hi, im coming from honor 8 with magisk and xposed. Id love to know before buying if this phone is too big or just a little bit more than my honor 8. What about the headphone volume? The Mix 2 is a little bit bigger but you won't really notice it. The Mix 2 is also a little bit heavier. Here are the dimensions:
Honor 8: 145.5 x 71 x 7.5 mm / 153 g
Mix 2: 151.8 x 75.5 x 7.7 mm / 185 g
The Mix 2 is supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and has a good battery life. I can pass easily 1 and a half day with moderate usage.
Since i don't use headphones i can't tell you about the volume, but please keep in mind that the Mix 2 doesn't have a 3.5mm jack for your audio devices. You have to use an USB-C Adapter for your headphones (included in the Mix 2 package)

Question before buying

Hello dear XDA Experts
Which Xiaomi phone shall I buy (in Europe) that will be the most popular Xiaomi device for a long time (people will talk about it and buy it for a long time), have the longest support and have many and many custom roms made even after pulling it off the market and most of all custom rom Devs will love it?
Any answer is welcome to help!
BTW Do these devices met the above criteria? (Redmi Note 5 (Pro or non Pro, remember Europe), Pocophone F1, Redmi Note 6 (if it is available in Europe))

I forgot to mention that I hunt for from low to mid budget phones. POCO can be bought by me i it turns out that he wins my criterua,
I bought Redmi Note 5 Pro due to the FLASHING brochure showing 6gb ram on 275USD ! however after i bought i found following problems and I am actually 70% regreting my purchase!
1. MIUI has keyboard switch key coming in notification panel so every time if i have to switch Gboard to Swiftkey i must pull down notification panel and make the switch (where all other phones in market has that keyboard switch key on navbar (far right)
2. OVERALL very low speaker and call quality! , even after mending mixerpath file! i could not enjoy the music! it becamse only 25% louder , no matter what values I play with ..
3. the CAMERA, the secondary dual camera is more of a cosmetic effect! i didnt find any options in camera app to take 3d fotos or optical zoom etc
furthermore
4. due to my daily aggresive social media usage and typing! i had try custom roms! ( xiaomi shipping unlocked phones to middle east) so i simple flashed various custom roms ( PE, RR6.2, crdroid, lineage, Omni, ArrowOs) and in all the ROMS, whatsapp acts funny when calling or hearing audio notes! and overall volume still low! , only in ArrowOS i could find my self accepting the volume quality (android p ) , but whatsapp keep making android P reboot...
now the GENERAL TRICKY PART which btw made me think i would never buy Xiomi phone again! even Pocophone on $300 or even if it drops to $100 !
A, if your device get BRICKED in flashing custom roms, there is NO WAY to connect it in EDL mode for you to FLASH THE ORIGINAL ROM VIA miFLASHER
B, you must remove back panel! remove battery wire and short two points to make RN5p goto EDL mode! and
C, on top of that YOU MUST HAVE AUTHORIZED MI ACCOUNT TO FLASH otherwise it will fail....
D, if you wana save your bricked RN5P, take it to service center even for flashing and spend money! and for me, Dubai is the only place service centre of MI , so i have to send my device to UAE in order to get flashed!
so that made me think that xiaomi in 2018 is ONE TIME BUY and THROW device
the question is not WHICH MI phone should u be buying?
the bigger question is , are you aware of the complications comes with all 2018 xiaomi phones ?

sir, 3d touch is, on home screen when you touch (lets say facebook) app icon and keep your finger on it for few mircoseconds , it opens submenu to various famous action (new post/video/app info / etc ). its a convenient if you want to change app properties (clear data/ fix notifications/ or uninstall ) all under on finger click. other wise to achieve all such you will have to goto traditional way under settings.
3d touch gives most used action by stats of that perticular app in submenu
workaround
the only workaround is to install another launcher , funny thing is, Xiaomi's launcher found on Googleplay has 3d touch! , Pocophone f1 launcher also has it.

In Samsung S8 when I push my finger for a few seconds (with the same force BTW) I only get 2 options: remove icon or uninstall app.
Is this a properly working 3D touch?
If you had the budget I suggest you to buy Poco since the phone is a hype and many people are buying it now. I believe Poco community will be live as long as Redmi 3/3 pro, 3s/3x, note 3 forum because of that hype (it is on xda since late 2015 and still alive now). I remember back then people got hype over the phone and we knew some people still looking for it even after redmi 4a/4x.
Oh a piece of cake, for aesthetic reason you might be falling in love with MI 8 lite, it is so beautiful.

Thank You for all Your help.
I gotta say You kept me thinking.
Cause If You would just see how all electronics shops make huge deliveries and still can't supply well enough for the giant demand of RN5.
I asked around in my country (Europe) and all the people say since RN5 is such a sales hit than it will have an incredible amount of custom roms and support for 3 years minimum from the Devs. They don't thing POCO will beat it in roms cause it's mainly bought by gamers. Gamers however dont flash custom roms when they have a beast that will eat every game.
Maybe in Your country the situation is somewhat different but as You can see the mania of RN5 is running wild that's why I was reluctant to hear from You that POCO will win in my 1st topics requierments.
BTW My people are poor and the difference between POCO and RN5 is 150 USD and that is very huge cash for us.
I respect Your predictions and I thank You very very very much for them.
As You can see try to fill in my shoes and don't be surprised that I am reluctant about POCO beating RN5.
Therefor please comment this reply as widely as You can when You get some peace quiet time please.

yes means that 3D touch in S8 gets me only 2 types of things (remove icon or uninstall)?
What happens if on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / pro I touch and hold an icon just like in S8 I wrote before?

I know it is a huge cash difference since I personally buy RN5 instead of Poco haha. But yeah people really looking for Poco here and they will pay another 150 USD for it.
What about RN5? After 2 weeks using it I don't face any problem. People said they got a or b or c problems, and I would confuse as I didn't get it. Since I'm a hard gamer too, it is crucial to look for performance and it is satisfying.
Both phone are good and has really active forums, it is your choice after all to buy the phone. Hope you get the best which suits your need.

Is mi a2 lite the right phone for me?

Hi all.
I have to buy a new phone and I'm considering the mi a2 lite.
I want a phone that isn't as big as the most of the other phones and that is cheap (around 150 €).
I want to use a custom rom with privacy guard tool and that will support the phone for few years.
For example the rom resurrection remix, why the thread in the forum is closed? Is the mi a2 lite still supported by resurrection remix?
Should I buy the mi a2 lite or there is a better choice?
Thanks.
The phone its a great option if you dont want a good camera for night...
RR its supported official, https://get.resurrectionremix.com/?dir=daisy
I dont know why is the thread closed...
Mi a2 is a better option... but more cost
It's good but not the best.
You will get a big battery, decent camera and screen, but software I think it's the worst.
Android One sucks, try to get a device with MIUI
Thanks for the replies!

On Amazon there are the a2 and the a2 lite at the same price now.
The problem is that the a2 is bigger than the a2 lite and I don't like big phones:

In your experience, if the device is officially supported by resurrection remix, will I have the phone supported for at leas two years?

Are these considerations valid if I install resurrection remix rom?
The only things that I need are the small dimensions of the phone and the official support by a rom with privacy guard tool.
This phone is part of the AndroidOne program which means "timely" (!) security updates and 2 years of feature updates, so it is going to get Android Q. Some things you need to know:
-I think at this point Xiaomi, doesn't give a flying f*** about their AndroidOne devices. You will get the monthly updates at the end of the month and it will be nothing but a security patch, no bug fixes what so ever. Current stock Android Pie has many bugs, but Xiaomi doesn't seem to address those issues. Stock firmware is usable but they broke Cam2API functionality on Pie, so for now I'm using rooted stock Oreo ROM, which is stable enough and with some modules gives me about 11h of SoT.
-Fingerprint sensor is a bit slower than my old Huawei P8 Lite 2017, but it's okay.
-Back camera is great in good lighting, but any absence of light then boom, your camera sucks now. Best option is to enable Cam2API manually (although the phone supports it, Xiaomi doesn't enable it on their AndroidOne devices lol - MIUI has it enabled though, AFAIK) and install Gcam, then the phone shoots great pictures, whether in bad or good lighting. Front camera sucks hard without Gcam.
-I haven't faced any slowdown issues (except on Pie, again), phone is buttery smooth and mine has 4 GB of RAM, RAM management is OK too.
-Current custom Pie roms don't have Gcam support as of now, as soon as they get it, I'm jumping on the custom ROM train.
-You'll probably be satisfied with the battery life.
-Speaker quality and loudness is amazing, headphone quality is also great. (I stopped using Viper4Android on this phone, because sound quality satisfies me as it is)
-One chronic issue you need to take note is that when charging the phone, touchscreen is irresponsive. It fails to register your touches many times you use it while charging, if you're planning to use it on charge, this is not the phone for you. Hell, none of the phones are for you because phones shouldn't be used while charging IMO.
-Build quality is great, I was afraid I was gonna get a cheap looking and feeling product hence the price. But it provides that good quality feel. (only downside being Micro-USB)
This phone is great for a budget. If you're planning to use it with custom ROMs, you're gonna get much more from the device and it will make you happy. Hope I was helpful.
Thaks for your reply marstonpear.
There are some defects, but if I have understand correctly, you are satisfied with this phone.

I read that this problem is not present in all the phones and can be caused by the screen protector: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/help/keyboard-lags-horribly-charge-phone-t3886508

I don't know since I can't install twrp in my Mi A2 Lite.
But you can get a good experience if you install some custom ROMs, but there are some bugs but if you don't mind that so its ok.
I had a Asus device (Zenfone GO) and the software was just terrible too, but I installed twrp and installed rr with Android 5.1 at the time, and I got a good experience even though it's a bad device with weak performance.
But if you can install TWRP so do it, install a custom ROM in it
You are buying a Android One device with advantage of 24 monthly updates, so think again before rooting it and install custom ROM and blah blah blah...
I'll wait for Android Q. But the software isn't that bad, it's just a little buggy and clean.

I'm thinking to use a custom rom because I want to use the lineage's privacy guard tool, that is present in resurrection remix rom.
I know that install a custom rom on a new phone with official updates is not a very good idea, but I haven't found another phone with dimensions and price similar to this.
Do you know a better alternative?
Can I use the encryption with a custom rom?
