Verizon trade-in... - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

So when I pre-ordered my Pixel 2 XL, the site told me my Nexus 6 was worth $0 as a trade-in. Anyone else have this happen to them? Is there any way to negotiate this?

Maybe they got flooded with them and cut trade ins of them off?
I have 6p and they're giving me 150 bucks for it.

if its through VZW, they are of no real value to them.
Even through the google store itself, max is $80 for the 64GB version $70 for 32GB.
They are going for twice that price on swappa, much better off selling it yourself.

Excellent, thanks for the info!

Fantastic. The OP however has a Nexus 6, not a 6P.

I got one even better. 2 months ago I got the ASUS ZenFone AR... Still in new condition... Verizon will only give $50 for trade in LOL... Verizon is a joke...

I'd say 90% of the time you are better off on swappa then trading it into VZW. Although, I got $280 for my Note 4 a few weeks ago.

Amazon dropped price to $799.99

Was $829.

When you compare the one plus and nexus pricing it's ridiculous. Also now that companies in the usa are basically forcing people on new plans to pay full price it will be interesting to see if demand falls.

The Note series has always been expensive. Nothing new here. Plus you can get an old phone and turn it in with a preorder and get 200$ off. Then there are subsidies or things like Next. Very few people still pay up front for the full phone cost so they don't care.

Buying through Amazon
HTML:
Did anyone else catch the $749 price through Amazon.com before they raised it to 829 and now 799?
Looks like Amazon is shipping their AT&T Note 4 on the 17th versus AT&T's 14th date.
One thing to thing about though is that you will be charged $40 activation free. When I buy it from ATT they always wave this fee so it becomes just about the same price as getting it from Amazon.

Not if you buy it outright.
I bought two note 3s outright just a few months ago and I was charged activation free.

I've bought outright from Amazon many times and I never incurred an activation fee. Maybe if I bought them with a contract, but definitely not outright. I just ordered my Note 4 about 20 minutes ago from Amazon. I paid the $799 plus tax, but that was it. When I get it I'll just pop in my AT&T sim and I'll be good to go. If by any chance there is a $40 activation fee, I'll just have AT&T waive it.
EDIT: I think I know why you got charged an activation fee now. I contacted Amazon and AT&T and they said I do not pay any activation fees because of my discount. That makes sense. Does your AT&T account receive a FAN discount of any kind? If not, then activation fees automatically charge to the account.
Only discount I receive is my 24% work discount on my data plan.

Did you activate anything? New lines of service? I've bought several phones from different retailers at full price, popped in my AT&T SIM, and had service immediately. No activation fees, no fuss - there were no changes to my account, I didn't contact AT&T, they didn't contact me, etc.
Your right! I forgot that we ported over 2 number at the time we bought the note 3s.
Oddly, their site doesn't offer the AT&T Next options for the Note 4 ("AT&T Next not available for this device"). I did a chat with customer service but they had no explanation.

[Q] Amazon Order Delayed, what is my best option (Full price and keep udp)?

I ordered the full price Note 4 for Verizon on 9/25. Was scheduled to be delivered today but I just got the notice that they are out of stock. I am on the Verizon UDP with my current Note 2 still and want to keep it. I did my trade in through amazon and that went through. I am looking for suggestions on the quickest way to get a Note 4 in my hands while keeping my unlimited data plan.
I got a good deal through Amazon, $622 for the note 4, but at this point I don't want to wait for weeks to get it. Can I get it through Verizon or Best Buy and still get the rebate (mail in or instant) and keep my unlimited date plan?
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Hi, thanks.
Yep, I know there are two rebates. One required preorder by 10/22, which I obviously did through Amazon, but if I cancel I will not meet this requirement.
The other https://samsunggalaxypromotions.com/tradein does not require a preorder, but it does appear to require the trade in and purchase to be on the same transaction. Since I have already had my trade in processed through Amazon, this isn't really feasible either.
I was looking at the Best Buy Option. Didn't study their spin on the rebate, and they are selling the full price phone for $749 rather than the $699 I paid on Amazon.
I'm in the same boat. I just cancelled my amazon order. I was just at best buy and they wouldn't let me buy the phone outright. Computer wanted a 2yr activation to get the $200 gift card. I showed the managers that all their flyers and ads don't say anything about that being a requirement. I was there over an hr. They did nothing except waste my time.

Thank you.
I'm typing this from my note4 that I paid 299 for via my udp
I bought it in store at best buy and used an upgrade on a 2gb line (nationwide share plan). They said they have to activate the phone, which is fine since it went to the 2gb line. After I left the store, I popped in my udp sim card from my note 2 and voila. They're offering a bonus 200 trade in gift card for a working smart phone until 10/31, but I figured I'd hang onto my note 2 for a backup if needed. I may even buy a cheap Craigslist phone and turn it in to best buy for that gift card. $95 for a note 4 with udp ain't too shabby.

300 dollar credit at ATT

If you turn in a working phone to ATT with a value of 20$ you get 300$ of store credit. I know there is a time limit so y'all better hurry.
i can confirm i traded in my verizon moto z play droid for the credit on launch day
Phone has to have a trade in value of at least $20 though

I was told I'd get a $200 account credit by the tech at the AT&T store for my Note 4. I have no need for any store credit, I have everything I want already, I had my case and screen protector preordered, and already have the S2 watch. They told me I had to take the $300 credit and I made a fuss - ended up with the $200 account credit and $100 store credit. I spent it on a little bluetooth speaker, the Wonderboom.
I got 300.00 for my note 4. Applied it to bill credits.

I went into the store. They applied the credit right then, got a new VR, some LG wireless headphones and $430 in bill credits.
I did mine in the store too. I would have preferred it as a credit against my bill, but they wouldn't do that. They applied part of it to tax on the phone, and then got a Gear S3 Frontier for $49, Beats X earbuds, and the leather wireless charger... both of which were also discounted from their normal crazy prices. Net was about $25 more I had to kick in. My trade in was a mint condition Galaxy S5. I am so glad I got the Gear S3, because I was coming from iPhone w/AW, and I love the Gear S3.

Still active, turned in my iPhone 6+ last Friday and got $300 credit at an AT&T Store. Made out like a bandit... put $200 on the phone as a down payment and the rest was on accessories. (2 USB-C Cables 6FT, one wall jack and a case), Unfortunately, AT&T didn't have a 256GB MicroSD card at the moment so, I bought one on eBay lol.

When is the price dropping?

I'm in the market for a phone for under $600. Obviously (and hopefully) the pixel's price should drop once the pixel 2 hits the market. Any idea when this will happen and how much of a reduction we're looking at? Any idea if we'll have an idea after the press conference on Wednesday? I saw a s8 today for $599 with no strings attached from my carrier (T-Mobile) so I'm considering that but also want to see what the price will be for the old pixel.

That's a little high. I would say 35-40% except you go for the refurbished which could be about 50% lower. Don't forget production for the old pixel ceased, all you have left is the inventory and refurbished units.
Now a new resale of XL 128G would be around 500, comparing to USD 869 for a brand new from Google Store.

I'd love if this were to happen. Any idea on when we'd see these reductions based on recent trends? (e.g. the Nexus 6p dropping when the Pixel came out, the S7 dropping when the S8 came out, and so on. When does this usually happen?)

But it seems $500 can buy a mint/good condition Pixel XL 128G.

It came to $749 plus tax from the Google store. Amazon shows slightly higher but there are refurbs cheaper and are most likely bootloader locked (no root). Honestly I do not trust Amazon sellers all that much and you probably won't get a two year warranty like Google. I fixed the screenshot in my previous post.

You need to be very sure where he got it from if rooting and unlocking are important to you. If it was any where other than the Google store you won't be able to do that.

If the phone was purchased on BF then it will be bootloader locked since it was from Verizon. Google didn't have a BF deal. But you might be confusing bl unlock with carrier unlock. You might want to check that. Rooting is only important if you want to modify the device from stock.

It's only important if you want to root it. Let me be more clear. It is SIM unlocked, they all are no matter where they come from.
I was speaking of bootloader unlocking, which is needed only for rooting and modifying. If that isn't important to you, you are all set no matter where it came from.

Tonik, your distinction between bootloader/sim unlock is super helpful to me. It's essential I have a rootable phone, I use my smartphone as my primary internet connection at home with my grandfathered unlimited plan.
Is there a particular model number of Pixel 2 that I should be looking for (in the used market) that would designate is as having come from Google as opposed to one of the carriers? When I rooted my Galaxy S6 (model G920P, which I believe pegs it to Sprint) 3 years ago, I realized too late that there were only very few custom roms for my specific device, and this was terribly disappointing after having come from a Sprint Nexus phone using the glorious Dirty Unicorns rom.

Unfortunately the model numbers are the same. Imei will tell you but the seller isn't going to give you that. Or you can get a pick of developer options from the seller. There is a slider that allows oem unlock. It needs to be blue.
