MEGA LG V30 Video Thread - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

I will use this thread to post my video coverage. This normally starts with Tips and Tricks. I'll eventually get to feature reviews, and will post about bugs I find and other aspects of the device. Once I've had time to get a good feel for the device I will post my full review. When root is out for the Verizon variant I will cover that here as well!

Your post at AF and your Youtube link are misleading. Someone who didn't read this post would think that you're reviewing the actual Google Edition and not a different version running the GPE ROM.
Your question about storage is related to this. The GPE has 12.65GB visible to the user. A non-GPE with the GPE ROM has 9.72GB visible to the user due to partitioning. Until we can get the GPE PIT file to work on a non GPE, this will always be an issue.
Please update your Youtube Video title/description to reference that this is not a GPE, but just a GPE ROM. The storage information is misleading.
Warning about this - original poster is a scammer. He's trolling for hits/likes to his various social media accounts. Video is not of a Google Edition S4 (as he states in his AF and Youtube posts). It's a carrier-branded model with a GPE ROM, and yes, there are differences. The key difference is that of storage. A real GPE has 12.65GB visible to the user. A GPE ROM on a carrier-branded model has 9.72GB visible to the user. Author wasn't wise enough to catch this (in his video, he wonders why it's different). When I first notified the author of this discrepancy, he had the opportunity to come clean about this being a fake review (it's a ROM review, not a phone review, has he has the wrong phone). His response was to block me on Youtube.
In the author's post on XDA he at least admits that this is a custom ROM.
Very misleading... This is a ROM review not a Phone review...

Correct. And at first I figured it was a typo or harmless mistake. Since I first notified him, he edited a post on another board, kept the Youtube title the same, and blocked me on youtube. It's obvious now he's trolling for social media hits.
Noticed that it wasn't an actual Google Edition device and he's just doing a ROM review, looking through the comments though it's obvious he's fooled a ton of people. Started looking at his other vids.
6/22 he does a vid on "Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Concept Art Design & Wishlist"
The video is basically him reading this article from 6/21 verbatim:
http://beatstechnology.blogspot.com/2013/06/appears-concept-android-50-interface.html
Oh Well.

I just find it odd that the video is using exact sentences that the article includes.
Also the issue isn't in regards to your post it's the YouTube video that people are taking issue with. Nowhere does it include that it's a flashed ROM, it's being passed off as an actual SGS4 Google Edition Phone.
You can see the confusion in your comments section of the video.

No you're right I seen why people would get confused but its also stated in the video , Also mentioned that you could flash it for yourself as well. In all both phones are the same except for the Memory capacity difference.

You're still faking. First off, the video doesn't state this. You claim that it's an actual GPE. Second of all, you've banned people from posting (and deleted their comments) on Youtube for pointing out that this is a ROM review. Also, there are some minor differences between the GPE and ROM aside from storage. We've seen people complain about lag in the ROM that isn't there with the real GPE. We've seen USB connection issues, wifi connection issues, and other things that need to be fixed in the ROM.
You're aware of this, but you shut down anyone that points it out to you. You're trolling for hits/likes.
EDIT: And let's not forget about this juvenile response;
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...35120-my-galaxy-s4-google-edition-review.html
You're aware of what you're doing, and you're still doing it at AF and on Youtube, where the masses either don't notice or aren't aware enough to realize. You're taking a different tone here because you've been busted by multiple people. If this really was a "mistake" as you seem to allude, you would have corrected the title and description on the Youtube video to indicate that this is a GEP ROM loaded onto an S4.
In the video, you clearly state: "doing a quick review and a first look at the Google edition for the Samsung Galaxy S4." You never imply that this is a ROM on the phone.

Cases, Covers & Bands: Moto E (2015)

Hey everyone,
Hope you all are enjoying your Moto E 2nd Gen!
Though the phone looks awesome and has an attractive back panel, stll we all go for cases and covers!
So to decide which is the best case for Moto E 2015, let the discussion begin!
1. Post a picture of the cases/cover.
2. Mention the link you found it on.
3. Please mention the availability, according to region. Eg. Global/US/India etc.
Have a great experience with your Moto E!
Thanks!

[Q] Can OIS be disabled?

I need to use my G3 as a car dash-cam. The OIS actually degrades the video when the camera is used this way. It causes the picture to have a wavy effect when the car is moving.
Can the OIS be turned off? I know there is no on/off ability built into the smartphone. But might there be some outside developer hack or app that would allow it? I've done much web searching on this and there are very few posts on the subject. Of the few I've found most (non-experts I'd say) say it can't be done. But I came across one hopeful post on this website that gives me hope. That discussion is about the new LG G4 so before I break into that thread I thought I'd post in the G3 forum for info.
The hopeful post is here at post #15:

I am leaving, mates

Yes you read well, I am leaving and I won't support this device anymore. I've my Z17 for sale and I'm going to buy Huawei's Mate 10, I'm bored about Z17 and I want to try new devices, I really miss a bigger screen, 5.5" are too small for me.
This means that I won't release any custom ROM more, maybe the last one based on Nubia UI if a new update is released before I sell it...
Anybody can use my ROMs to made anothers, the only thing I would request is credit for my work.
Currently for me the best ROMs availables for Z17 are Miui 8.2.2 from SY and RR from SY too(Mokee too, but it has less customizations). So after flashing every ROM available for Z17 this is my feedback, I hope this will help somebody.
It was a pleasure mates, I hope you could enjoy this awesome device!
Sorry to hear.
Thank you so much for all the work you put into this. Since I'm on that Miui international, i'm pretty happy with it.
When i bought that phone i didnt quite think through there wouldnt be as much support as for a nexus...
I am Sorry to Hear that,
but i want Say Thank You , to arceoxis too.
Have lot of Fun with Your new Phone.
thank you for you nice works and helps .
also ım thınkıng to buy mate 10 pro.
Hi,
Thanks for your job. The Nubia Z17 goes the same way than my Jiayu S3 ADV.
No support from Nubia, nor from Jiayu (they are dead now).
May be you can explain to some of us how to continue your work.
May be I should change my phone to, to an international release. Later
Have luck (for your studies) and fun (for every thing)
Thank you for you big works and helps .
No more nubia devices in my life.
Thank you again bro.
I'm glad to see that more than 3 weeks later you're still around and active
Maybe if you stick around until june (or so goes the rumor) the official 8.1 update might get the phone back it's value

I couldn't sell the phone, so I'll keep it some time more. Anyway I won't be as active as before, because I'll be so busy until summer...

You may be asking, "Why was my Telegram or Whatsapp thread closed/post removed?"
Well, it's just becoming too much.
Going forward, we will only allow one Telegram chat link on a development thread by the ROM's developer and only if thorough support is still provided in the ROM thread on XDA.
All discussion channels, photography channels, whatnot channels will be strongly discouraged and removed with immediate effect. Please reference the forum rules:
Quote:
Self-promotion is forbidden, this includes blogs, social media and video channels etc. Random links will be removed.
Also, we now have an official XDA Discord Server. We would encourage you to try it out.

Time to move on...

On April the 18th my mom was involved in a car accident and passed away on May 5th. This has made me reevaluate my priorities, and while I am not getting out of the Android dev scene, I am moving on from LG (or any OEM that is not dev friendly). Life is too short, and I am tired of wasting perfectly good development time trying to unlock the bootloaders of phones that the OEM is just a ****. I want to spend my time doing atual ROM development, adding tweaks to TWRP, kernel development, etc....
I have placed an order for a OnePlus 7 Pro -- just a flat out sweet phone, and developer friendly. I will only be working with dev friendly phones from now on.
It has been great working with you guys, and I wish you the best of luck finding a way to flash the eng. abl without using EDL mode.

I'm very sorry about your mom. There's no words for that loss.
Also, thanks for all your time and work.
______
Wish I could like any One Plus phone, but I can't.... Yes, they FINALLY went to 1440p -- like all major Android OEMs did FIVE YEARS ago. But...
* no Qi wireless charging (which even iPhone now has and Google added back), and
* no IP rating. (And I don't care they dunked a phone they hand-selected to pass their test. I want official high IP rating.)
* Plus, other stuff.

My sincere condolences for your loss, mate.
Thanks for all the efforts and hope to meet you again maybe someday in another project to have fun and joy - that is the spirit which makes us survive in the vanity of vanities and thanks for sharing it with us, LG users...
So sorry for your loss, Brian. Best of luck on your development endeavors with the OnePlus devices, and thank you for all the work you've already done. Maybe someday LG will wake up and be pro-consumer. This is my first and last LG phone otherwise. (Other then the Nexus4)

Sorry for your loss Brian @runningnak3d. Thank you for all your contributions to the LG Dev community and efforts in helping me with Super Rom. Hope you do bigger and better things within the OnePlus community!
I sure appreciate the condolences guys. I tell you, losing someone close really does make you rethink just what you are spending your time on, and is it important.
I have learned an AWFUL lot since getting started with the V20 back in 2016. Heck I bricked TWO H910s (AT&T model) because my last LG phone was a G4 but it didn't have secure boot enabled, so I could cross flash (heck -- flash unsigned firmware), all I wanted. I use TMO, and I thought I could just flash H918 firmware onto the H910 and convert it. After the second brick, I decided to learn everything I could about LG security. That eventually lead to the LAF post, and eventually lafsploit 1.0 and 2.0.
It has been a great 3ish years, but in ALLLLLLL this time, I have only built *one* ROM. I have only ported ONE TWRP version. I have only tweaked *one* kernel. That is where the real fun in this is. I think I got lost along the way, and was just determined to beat LG. Well LG -- you won this round -- I forfeit.

A forfeit is not necessarily a win! LG lost when they broke the rules and decided to screw their customers.

@runningnak3d: Aw man, I am terribly sorry to hear that... And I do know exactly what you mean how it makes you rethink priorities.
I see completely how ROM and kernel development would feel more... "constructive" or "positive" (would those be the right words?) compared to the constantly uphill battle of fighting LG and Qualcomm security.
But hell, they DIDN'T win, you did: You are a big part of the reason why several generations of LG phones are rooted, including all V30 models. And you are almost the sole reason why T-Mobile models are rooted (I know others deserve credit too). Take huge pride in that. You won several battles. They just keep starting new ones, and you chose not to engage the latest ones. That's your prerogative, not forfeiting.
I might see you in the OnePlus community one day. So far my V30 is still going strong. Thanks to you I finally rooted it last weekend, went without a hitch. But my next phone could well be a OnePlus as well -- as long as my V30 still works to play music
If you ever want to just hang out and talk over a beer or Starbucks, just say the word. Or even NOT talk over a beer or Starbucks. I'm just 10 mins away, as you know...
My condolences to you and your family. Your contributions to the XDA community will not be forgotten, and I hope the OnePlus 7 ends up being a great device for you to continue with into the future.
Thanks and the best of luck to you and your family in the future...
That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely take some time for yourself and your family.
Shame LG quietly decided to lock down their unlocked phones after the V30. This will be my first and last LG.

So sorry for your loss.
Hey Brian,
First and formost, i truly am sorry for your loss and hope nothing but the best for you. i say your name like i know you on a first name basis. I've been in the XDA scene since the Galaxy Note 3 and LG G4 days. Thanks to you i'm still on my LG v20 H-918 (T-Mobile) fully in my control and still using it today, writing this. We, who all went through the struggle's of defeating LG's security among others with you understand how it feels when we all crawled through a river of $#/+ and came out clean on the other side. though you single-handedly beat LG, We still felt that we was right there with you trying to find a way, so others could have full access to there devices.
Just had to say thank you and hope maybe one day you pick THORS hammer back up and start smashing some more of LG's security. (a man can dream) lol. I had my sites on the LG v35 because its a rarity type phone like the LG G6 with the SD835. i really like the LG v35 and hoped maybe there would be some breakthroughs with it. but, without you, this may never be possible.
If moving on from this, is what's needed, then more power to you. I'll see ya in the One Plus 7pro forums and look forward to seeing what you come up with on the development side of things.
1nce again, thank you for sharing your wisdom and kindness with us all.

I want to expand in this . @runningnak3d won in many ways. He pwned an entire LG security team. Got root for the V20 and V30 users which also got LG a few extra units sold.
I personally would not have bought a V30 if Running did not get root for it. I'm sure many users here on XDA felt the same way.
I called many T-Mobile places looking for the V30 and only 1 place in the Bronx had it.
If anything, Running is a 1 man army! He did a bayonet charge directly into LG's chest.

Condolences for your loss, prayers for you and family.

@runningnak3d I'm sorry for your loss. Can't begin to imagine what you're going through. Stay strong.
You were and always will be a hero for LG development community. I enjoyed LG v20 because of you. I always thought of you as the person who had all the answers. Thanks for all you've done Brian and all the best for your future. I'll probably move out of LG after my LG V30 becomes unusable and move to a dev friendly phone.
Goodbye until the we meet again someday, in some xda thread.
