I got unlock approval from xiaomi, but when I do unlock asked me after 64 hours - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

I used vpn to binding device already.
Do I really have to wait 64 hours to do unlock boot-loader?
is there any faster way?
so frustration to doing this.

when you got the approval you should login your xiaomi account in the safety setting page on your phone then wait for 72 hours
got the approval without login xiaomi account is just waste time

yes I did login to account and binding with my account.

I think it's in the Developer Options, just below the USB Debugging option.
I'd look,but,I'm running a non-MIUI ROM & the settings U/I is a bit different.

It is so complicated and frustrating to perform this changing of ROM's
1. Have to register with Xiaomi for Mi Account ID.
2. Then submit a request to Unlock Boatloader then wait for verification code (use valid reason).
3. Wait for reply thru SMS granting 'the permission to unlock your device'.
4. Go to developer page to 'add account and device for unlocking'.
5. Then found out need access to China server
6. Search thru TON's of VPN app that will connect to China (VPN Turbo (with a rabbit as an icon on Play Store) works).
7. Go thru the same web site (en.miui.com/unlock) and now the download Mi Flash Unlock is UNLOCKED.
8. Installed in PC, login and wait again for 'Checking if your Mi account have permission to Unlock'.
9. Permission granted AND NOW HAVE TO WAIT 64 HOURS...
I am starting to hate my Mi Mix 2

Also bit disappointed to have to wait since I always had Nexus devices but once done, you can do whatever you want so it's worth waiting
Once I'm allowed to unlock, will get rid of this crappy MIUI and get a real Android ROM

It is all very frustrating. Xiaomi makes it hard so you won't do it. They want you to be in China with the phone hence the need for the VPN. They really don't make much money on the phones they make the money off the Mi services, apps, themes, cloud etc. If you could easily unlock the phone you could flash a rom on the phone that doesn't use the services and they don't make money on that. Frustrating but it keeps them in business.
Sadly, what Xiaomi doesn't understand is, if they would build awesome phones like the MiMix2 and slap a western rom on it with an unlocked bootloader they could charge a hundred bucks more for it and tech enthusiasts here in the US would gladly pay it and they would still make money. They just don't get us.

I cant understand the need for vpn. this phone was made to cover all bands so it would sell internationally. they also release Global Roms for all their devices. Why the need to be in China to add the device to your account?

From what I understand, in the past companies were buying their phones in bulk in the Philippines, excellent devices but the hardware is not profitable, and unlocking and reflashing, reselling the devices. The servers in China were a stop gap to stop that from happening but the VPN can bypass that stop gap. All of the steps in place are to stop that from happening. The global roms are supposed to be flashed by the Chinese resellers like GearBest before they leave China. They pay more for the device and sell it for more than Xiaomi direct so both companies make money on the device's. Xiaomi isn't purposely trying to make us miserable. We're just early adopters. If we waited another month and imported our phones they probably would have come with unlocked bootloaders and the global rom.

Maybe because the phone is still only available in China, but will be in India very shortly and other regions soon.

They make their money off of miui services in China. So releasing it to the western world where those services wouldn't be used doesn't make a lot of sense to them. The extra money they make of raised prices would be spent in taxes for selling in the states.
The cultures are very different. Things that are popular and work in China are not really all that popular here. It's just a matter if the difference is culture. One is more conformist while the other is more about being an individual.

Because the Chinese concept of Internet is "slightly" different than in the rest of the World...The great firewall is filtering all inbound traffic and Chinese government don't like VPN connections. You can't connect to all Xiaomi's servers.
Had a look on my firewall, most of the traffic for Xiaomi's services is directed to the US or Canada but the account association to unlock the phone (in developper options) is straight forward to China, thus inbound filtered.

Makes sense this. Not a Xiaomi issue other than this is where the server is. More of a firewall issue. Cheers for the explanation.

Note 7 help

Can i please get some advice? (sorry a bit long but thought i need to provide the background info).
I have been given a Samsung Note 7 as a compensation-related gift by my network operator Vodafone and to cut a very long story short i have almost exhausted all possibilities with Vodafone and Samsung to get it exchanged for a different model or a credit.
I am currently looking at the possibilities of keeping my Note 7 if i feel i can assess (and possibly repair) it privately to confirm the safety implications and any other issues that may come up.
My questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone had success changing the Imei and model number? The reason is to protect myself from network barring and to retain app support. I have a previous Note and can use the imei. My plan was to change the model to G935F that of an S7 Edge. (There are some sites i came across but I wasn’t sure the guides were tested)
2. Can i root it and will i be able to update it regularly from core android?
3. Will the Wifi-calling feature work? Sounds like a small thing but its quite important. I have this feature on my Note 7 already and activated on my account and its very useful to me.
I live in the UK and I am an Engineer by trade. I worked for a cellular phone repair centre a number of years ago that specialised with Samsung and Nokia phones.
Whilst i have some experience and contacts in the industry, my knowledge of the current software/ firmware platforms on the market is limited so i would greatly appreciate any advice you can give.
Thanks in advance
not too sure about how you would transplant the hardcoded iemi number mate... are uk note 7s actually confirmed being banned?
You can root it and from that you can add features from the xposed library that will surely extend the life of your note 7 for years.. by which time the note 8 should be out in some form.
I read on maybe this site, or another, that someone had their Note 7 thinking it was the S7 yet still fully functioning as a Note 7 (Grace UI, etc)

Thanks for info. I'm not sure if they will fully inforce a ban but the procedure for returning the n7's is pretty much the same, minus the fire proof boxes (read into that what you like). I want to see what needs to be put in place if they do.
Any idiots guide for rooting and where to download files would be appreciated.

If you do that would be great.
I'm trying to stoke up some support in the uk to appeal to Samsung to at least reassess the n7's already out there but there's only a few interested. I believe there is more support in the US which may provide a much stronger case.

The official release date in the UK for the Note 7 was next week, October 28th, which ironically was the same date as the Note 2 release, Note Edge release and Galaxy View release, just different years.
Call me crazy, I recognize a pattern here.
I am a serious Note user, so instead of following the crowd I will either consider the LARGE 18.4" Galaxy View or the 6" Curved Screen Huawei Mate 9. Hmmm, Mate, Note?
For some strange reason there aren't many Samsung Stylus Devices available, can't find the Note Pro 12.2 on sale anywhere. Something is definitely up. All I know is I feel sorry for those Pixel, iPhone 7, V20 blinded sheeple.
What's their reason for refusing to exchange?

Samsung can't help because I didn't buy it direct and Vodafone said it was giving to me as a gift and not linked to my account so I need to deal with Samsung. I know this sounds ludicrous but Vodafone are a nightmare and I was ready to book myself into rehab after the effects of previous issues. I could take this up with an ombudsman but it takes time and I'm not sure I have the energy.

The recall is voluntary. Do not believe those people who say your IMEI will be blocked or barred. It will only be blocked if the phone was purchased in a payment plan and You fail to return it. Or if You fail to keep the payments. The recall is absolutely VOLUNTARY. Do not be afraid. Many of us are keeping the phone, because we know the risk is now minimal.
All electronics have the possibility to fail. All batteries have the risk of catching fires. This risk is a lot greater when the device begins their lifecycle. So now the risk is minimal. Samsung did not take "probability" into consideration before sending those replacement phones. Meaning if you had 50 in 2 million to catch fire with the original. Now you had 50+30* of catching fire in the replacement. (*More o Less)
Samsung has a great opportunity to collect data and usage information with us. Otherwise if people panic they will just scrap the Note Series all together.
Good Luck! ?

In short: No you can't change your IMEI, but that is not needed. If you don't want Samsung to directly know that your device is a Note 7, you need to change your device name in build.prop (but to do this you need root) and to deactivate software updates.
But I recommend you to not use the device. Samsung may not release any software updates, and the risk of exploding is still there. Even if the risk is very small, it can happen at any time, and the more time you spend with this device, the bigger is the risk.

Thanks for your reply SaschaHa. I am just weighing up my options while waiting for a reply from Samsung hq. If i was use it I would be after I had assessed it internally.
Although Samsung wont provide updates will I be able to semi - regularly update it manually from stock? Eg nougat 7 was originally in the pipeline for the n7.
Also would wifi - calling get carried over/ integrated in the build?

You only can update it manually if some rom developers port firmwares from other Samsung devices to the Note 7 (if Samsung doesn't release updates). But that mostly is only possible for the same Android version, so there might never be a Nougat rom for Note 7. So then the only possibility to get a newer Android version is to use a AOSP / CM(14) based rom, if a developer created one for the Note 7. But without proper drivers by Samsung, that's difficult. And I think, the most developers are going to use other devices instead of risking a burning N7.

I'm staying factory. I did not disable the 80% battery option because we ran a study and found overcharging to be 1 of 3 factors in starting fires. If Samsung sends the Nougat update, then I will just update. The customs ROMs I'm not a big fan of, because it seem one always looses some cool feature like heart monitor, Samsung Pay or scanner. I got a Note 3 that I plan to use as my flying phone and my Note 7 will be my daily driver

Do you mean 60% battery limitation update? Fyi I spoke with a samsung rep today that had called into one of the stores, he believes there is a kill type update coming to force customers hands. I have the 1st addition (non batt update) so if I was to keep it I would have to root. As mentioned wifi calling is also an issue. Samsungs got a lot to answer for ditching such a great device and one that can be repaired

Unless they have a Sprint Note 7 60% otherwise you can bump up to 80% charge. I recommend you get advise from an Engineer rather than a Sales Rep
I no longer have the pictures but click:
1.- Settings
2.- Device Maintenance
3.- Battery Icon
4.- Advanced Settings Menu
5.- Disable the "Limit maximum charge to 60%" tab

I'm not from the UK however I did purchase the Singapore (Same as UK) version and I'm using it on ATT Mexico.
Please refer to the Voluntary recall at: http://www.samsung.com/us/note7recall/
As of today the recall is only mandatory in Germany. Note 7 is banned on all flights in the US and part of Mexico. The mandatory recall will take time as the Consumer Product Safety Commission has to run a full investigation on the matter

Flashing stock Mi Mix2 - previous experience

I'm thing of getting a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 however i would only do it if i was 100% sure no data collection was executed by secretly installed backdoors and services. From your experience and given that Mi Mix was out for so long, is there a way to flash stock android (downloaded from google directly) even in a few months from now when kernel is released and be 100% sure that no data is being transmitted to Xiaomi?

Google wont provide you to download a systemimage for the Mi Mix 2. I'm sure, that there will be an official LineageOS-build anytime, but there is also a backdoor possible. Even google could implement a backdoor into the system and nobody would be able to check that.

It doesn't really work that way, Google doesn't provide ROMs for any phones other than thier own. Manufacturers have to do the whole bit for drivers and whatnot. Enthusiasts do ROMs but those take time. Best bet for you is if you don't trust the phone since it is Chinese get from a manufacturer you do trust or watch rom forum here for a custom rom you think is worth trying.

Well i am currently on an iphone 7 plus. no complaints what so ever on the performance its just ios is a bit limited for me. I would love to get the pixel 2 its just that the hardware they are going to sell us does not justify it's price vs it's competitors. for example Huawei Mate 10. but even with Huawei, the data collection question arises again. i mean everyone does it, but i'd prefer to give it to google or apple rather someone else.

1080 hours to wait to unlock the bootloader ?!!

Hi,
I just go this phone for Christmas and I'm trying to root in order to get my apps and everything back, and I know Xiaomi has been annoying with security and put a lock between 72h and 360 (wtf...) but here I got 1080 hours to wait ! I Googled it and couldn't find anyone else with this much time to wait so please reassure me and tell me I'm no the only one ?
I've been looking for a fix for the past two days with no luck, I don't have any access to the play store and I'm stuck with a half chinese, half english semi brick I can't use...
Any help will be appreciated
don’t the hosts of phones obstruct xiaomi make the money
Every account can unlock one device within 30 days.
Maybe you unlocked an device and 30 days didn’t pass.
If this is not your case write to service email about the reason of such delay and share their answer with us.
I can add the feature of being unmanageable and it try to make public all staff you doing on phone.
I guess no one have a way to stop that.
"Дорогие Xiaomi, не мешают ли вам хозяева телефонов, майнить деньги?"
When I first requested unlock of my Mi Max 3, it said I had to wait 720 hours.
After around 360 hours, I was able to unlock.
So I'm not sure what the reason for the reduction in wait time was, perhaps due to me being a Xiaomi user for a couple of years.
I guess you could write to them or try again after a couple of weeks, to see if they've adjusted it for you.

Not really, Android is Open Source and so if manufacturers want the free software (especially ones like Xiaomi who don't even include Google Play Services in their Chinese ROM's so don't have to pay a cent to Google), they should give back to the community too by making bootloader unlocking fairly easy. It should be a simple option hidden in the dev settings menu at worst.

for the best ratio of the hardware/price
for the good battery and the bigger screen.
And please don't tell me I should be happy with locked boot-loader and mess with arb, i already have multiple reason to be not happy with it.

They should but they don't... Like disable ARB with unlocked bootloader... Next step is disable bootloader unlock...

I'm thankful to Xiaomi for:
for the best ratio of the hardware/price
for the good battery and the bigger screen.

Of course not...
But as long as hardware is cheap and bootloader is unlockable I'll be happy. That's all I need from a phone.

How to root

Hi everyone, someone knows how to root honor9x, it seems to me first I need to unlock the bootloader, thanks ( I translated this)

I just purchased this cellphone. There is no current way to unlock it's bootloader. So your correct that means no custom recovery no root access an no custom ROMs are possible.
I guess you can thank Donald Trump for that. Last year he decided that the only country allowed to use cellphones to gather consumer data was America.
Long story short after Huawei could not run a multi billion dollar business 90 days at a time which was the only way he allowed Huawei to use Google an Android: Huawei went with it's own propriatory operating system an dumped it's relationship with America Google an Android.
As a result this cellphone being after these events this cellphone is completely locked in every way.
You can install google play services (with some difficulty ) an you can install things like themes an apks.
But that's all for now unless Trump realises that America lost billions of dollars in business when it forced Huawei to walk.
Can you really see Trump the utter narcissist going to Huawei an apologising an removing 90 day business operations permissions from them?
I don't think so lol

I understand what your saying. But my friend these cellphones are awesome stock. In my country New Zealand you can buy them with google play services preinstalled. Ram an battery management is superb. Its the perfect reliable cellphone for work.
Only thing annoying about it is a weakness in many Chinese cellphones. And that is what I call the 'micro status bar'.
Us older folks like large status bars.
If you want to play with roms kernels root etc then its not for you.
If you want the perfect relaible workphone then please buy it.
If you want a bit more power an performance the get the pro version. About 40% more powerful chip.
But yes not for tinkerers as they will get no fun with a locked bootloader.
Wow I didn't know root ended back then in 2018. Thanks for the info ?

Here in India, you can get the 9X Pro for around 10$-15$ more for the 6+256gb variant but the pro doesn't come with google apps whereas the regular 9X comes with it.People who have used 9X Pro had a terrible user experience as some apps like swiggy (app like ubereats) and Uber don't work as they need google play services plus a locked bootloader is like icing on the cake.
Huawei back then in 2018 used to provide developers their phone so that they can develop custom roms ad mods. Then i don't know why they did a full 180 on the community. They also sponsered XDA developers

It has to be because of Trump. I very much hope he is voted out in 2020 by americans before he starts a war. He has attacked Huawei or been part of 3 attacks on them in the last 2 years that I know of. Accuses them of all kinds of crazy things.
I am feeling the loss of privilages developers used to have with Huawei like the ones you mentioned.
We can only wish for a brighter future my friend.
Thanks for the clarification of the 9x an 9x pro.
Why should a cellphone company cooperate with developers in a country with a leader bent on destroying them?
Or it could be by demand of the Chinese government?
Time will tell I guess?

Huawei is not stupid. They saw the writing on the wall. They knew that Trump was shutting them out. While I disagree with their decision. It is understandable considering Trump's actions. I have owned a mate 9 for three years. Never felt the need to root it. At least while the themes app was still working.
Unfourtanley, even that is dead now. Yes, I understand that XDA is all about OWNING your phone. When I look at the specs of this phone and the price. God, I wish we still had Honor as competition to other brands here in the US. Other brands with similar specs start at 500 or more...Sorry, Bit I miss the competitive pricing they once brought to the market.
True that, but those expensive Samsungs have been locked down for years, and so-called "Flagship killers" like Oneplus , have become Flag ships themselves, i was the list for one of the first One plus fones it was awesone, but theyve gotten like the rest of em , $600+. , i dont really need to unlock this phone, anymore than i need to unlock my $80,000 Raptor or my $35000 Harley, it works and it keeps working, good enough

Question 5G in an unlisted country.

Had anyone figured a way to do this? i searched throughout all the internet about this.. and yet to find a solution.
I don't live in a country that Google sells the GP6P and(from my understanding) they'll lock it, NR availability will be set to False. Now i'm on a rooted GP6P and tried some modules(old mostly), none of them worked -- my ISP definitely supports 5G -- , if there is a module to enable it please upload it.
And whilst at that.. a way to get call screening enabled aswell...
No one figured out yet or simply don't want to.. For now we only have VoLTE by changing some build.prop parameters with Magisk module.
I was wondering... @Freak07 you seem to be a cool dude who eagerly supports the Pixel 6, maybe you would have any idea about it?
My carrier (Orange Poland) uses same 5G band and frequency as officially supported one (Magenta Austria) and I can't use 5G anyway..
On Pixel 5 it was simple because of QPST tool, with Tensor we are doomed
Another idea is to simply create a bounty, money would quickly improve the success
+1 for the bounty.
I am done waiting for my carrier to play nice with Google. My problem is that I also totally dislike Samsung, Oneplus etc.
We need to get this organised asap, I am sure there are plenty developers here on XDA willing to take that bounty.
Maybe we can use a platform like bountysource.com ?

GoFundMe would be better, because you can't collect $ from people on the site you mentioned. Actually as someone who is on XDA since 2010 and already organized one bounty...maybe I'd be someone trustworthy enough to organise it

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about gofundme, sorry!
Feel free to organize this, hopefully we can get enough people onboard to make for a tempting bounty.
I'm in too. (Vodafone Czech Republic)
I will try to work on it this weekend
Gonna use GiveButter since GoFundMe isn't supported in Poland.. GiveButter works worldwide in theory
I can provide any data from P6 latest Android 13DP2 (DP3 should be soon)
Oh I am in for middle east UAE Pixel fans
The Pixel 6 (non pro) community made a module for that purpose, I don't know if that one works for the P6 Pro, I'd advise not to use it, but you could ask the creator of the mod (github page is linked in that thread) if he is able to help you guys.
Activating 5G in unsupported countries?
I know this might require root, which I am more than willing to do. But is there a process or a magisk module that can activate 5G on unsupported countries? (btw im from PH)
forum.xda-developers.com
I remember that there was a relatively easy fix for the p4(a) and p5 to activate 5G in unsupported countries, even though I'm not sure if that still applies to the P6 Pro. Root required for both methods.
You could try these steps out (make backups!!!), but be warned that it might brick certain things.

The pixel 6 lineup isn't on a Qualcomm chipset, Google has made their own chip called Tensor. Now the difference is that in Qualcomm's way they give you developer tools such as the Qualcomm Product Support Tools (QPST) which makes the Chip unlock its 5G capability, easy. Now in Googles Tensor's case we don't have access to these type of tools, and the Chip itself can lock the 5G modem.

That eliminates the second method with the file editing, but the first method was successful for the Pixel 6 non Pro, so that should be a possibility for you guys here, even though that Magisk mod might have to be adjusted slightly.

If so I'll give it a ago in a little bit..
- I have the Pro version.
Do not flash that file. It's for Qualcomm chips and you're basically flashing Qualcomm directories onto your phone.
I don't know how anyone can say it was successful.
5G and other 5G features are controlled by the carrier settings. And that's not easy to manipulate.
Don't ever approach this phone with a "well this module works for 4/4a/5/5a" mentality.
+1 don't do it, Tensor is Exynos based, QPST only worked on previous Pixels
Getting lucky with the relatively simple flags to enable VoLTE by flashing tons of other crap onto your phone is not a validation.
Okay I won't do it. And yeah that's what I thought.
Just that the fact that it worked on the non pro model caught my attention.
I've given up on 5G now even though my network supports it Google have said they wont certify the device, certainly won't be getting another Google phone after this
I'm still confused as to why people imported this device when carrier support was clear from day one.
I don't think it's right that an OEM controls that, but that's the reality we're dealing with.

I think I know why, I will give my best shot:
Many prefer using Pixel phones as they offer the closest experience to iPhone (regularly OS updates for years to come, clean OS without unnecessary bloatware and clutter etc.) and they are willing to accept the current state of not having full connectivity support with a hope that things might change in the (near) future.
It's not like the first time a phone manufacturer aknowledges customer feedback. Call me overly optimistic but I think they will eventually cave in, at least for unlocking VoLTE and VoWiFi. Because more and more countries are shutting down the 3G cell towers.
As for unlocking 5G support - from my understanding that would be more complicated as that's subject to each country's policy and legislation.
