Verizon Insurance (Asurion) if Purchased from Google Store? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I purchased my Pixel 2 XL from the Google Store (picked the 'Unlocked' option).
I'm currently on a Verizon family plan that already has the Total Equipment protection insurance for all lines. I was just curious, does anyone know if I'd be eligible for the insurance from Verizon (since I wouldn't have to pay anymore)?
I bought the phone from the Google Store since it should have an unlocked bootloader, and I'm guessing any replacement through Asurion would probably be the Verizon variant that has the locked bootloader, I was just curious.
I believe I saw in the past with the Pixel XL that the phone might come up as a 'Non Verizon Device'. That's what happens right now with my Nexus 6P, but I didn't know if the Pixel 2 XL would be different since Verizon is actually selling the phone too.

I'd call Asurion to be certain. I don't think they will actually honor a replacement for customer provided phones.

I chatted with a Verizon rep, and she said yes, it will be covered. I clicked through my phone purchase so fast (like an idiot) that I missed the insurance... Now, Verizon reps do NOT always have the correct answer though. But, when I had Sprint, I got an unlocked Nexus S, and my insurance (asurion still) covered it. The insurance through Google is a lot less expensive though. I really wish I would have added that...

I bought a phone off of Craigslist and they did return and sent me a refurbished one after I got it the wifi kept disconnecting so I would assume kinda the same thing. At least you are the first one to purchase the device unlike me

AT&T uses asurion too and I only buy unlocked phones from either swappa or the manufacturer; asurion has always covered the phone that was active on my specific line of service, regardless of where it was purchased.

I've been with Verizon and had insurance since old blackberry days. I purchased an unlocked S8+ from Bestbuy and Verizon told me that if I had a claim it wouldn't be honored, so I cancelled the insurance. If you purchased the phone from Google I would just buy their insurance.

When I bought my 6P through Google, Verizon did not carry that device and Asurion would NOT cover it or even offer insurance for it. I also lost access to the 25gb Verizon cloud, and a lot of tech support.
Since VZW does offer the 2 XL, albeit locked, I would tend to think you'll have access to all the extra stuff, and that Asurion would cover the device (maybe not root related damage) for all other normal damages.
VZW's explanation on why Asurion wouldn't cover my 6P was because they wouldn't have that phone to replace my damaged one with. Not sure how much water that holds, but it's what I was told.
Since VZW offers the 2 XL, you'd get a replacement but it would likely be a locked one...
Rather than take any chances, I just purchased the $129 Google all inclusive insurance with my 2 XL. VZW can keep their tight little sphincterized policies to themselves!

I have Total Equipment coverage on my Verizon plan right now. If I was to purchase the Pixel XL straight from Google (so it's fully unlocked), the insurance would still remain on the line. I'm just curious, would I still be covered through Asurion if the phone was lost or stolen? Or am I really just wasting money by having it on there.
I know Verizon's version of the Pixel would be considered a different phone, I was just curious if paying a deductible if I have to make a claim would cover me at all.
I actually have the Nexus 6P right now, so I'm really in the same boat. Am I just throwing money away every month lol?

You'd be wasting money. Asurion looks for a purchase/activation date and since you didn't buy it from Verizon they won't do a thing for you.

Verizon Pixel and Warranty

I'm not a Verizon customer, but I got. A used Verizon Pixel. Do I Go through Verizon or Google for warranty?
If it originally came from Verizon, than Verizon. Not sure if they will accept it for warranty since you are not the original owner.
I know Google will transfer to new owner if the old owner makes a phone call.
How will Verizon support non Verizon customer/ owners with warranty?

When was the last time you checked this?
They might have changed their policy.
I have a Pixel C that I bought on Swappa, and the screen just bit the dust after two months of usage. Called Google Support two days ago and they basically told me to go pound sand since I wasn't the original owner (they were polite, but that was the essence of their message).

Ugh... Thanks. I guess I'll wait and get a new black 128 when they become available and sell the VZ unit

Different Phone Insurance Options

Soooo, I'm trying to decide on what insurance to use for my pixel xl 2. I currently have full coverage through Verizon, which covers literally everything, including loss and theft, but it's $11 a month and my s7 edge has a $170 deductible... Also, I bought the xl 2 from Google, if something happens to it, Verizon will cover it and replace it, BUT, I'm pretty positive I'll end up with a Verizon model with a locked bootloader.
Soooo. I'd like to know what other options there are? The coverage from Google is half the price, but does NOT cover loss or theft. The deductible is a lot less at $100 though.

After a lot of *****ing lol, I got one in less than a week though. But, that's a lot of money. So, what are you using? What do they cover? How much, and what's the deductible?

Try square trade. I had Google insurance for the first pixel and had to pay full price for a replacement. It's changed since then.

The only third party, non-carrier version I know that covers loss from theft is Worth Ave Group. I have a policy with them for my OG Pixel, but thankfully have never actually had to use it, so I can't comment beyond that.

Wow, these guys are awesome! I hope they don't try to pull BS though and not pay like some companies do, it's way cheaper than any other I've seen, almost too good to be true. It's like $8 per month for a 1 year plan, cheaper for 2 (you have to pay all up front I think), and it covers EVERYTHING, with only a $50 deductible. When my phone arrives tomorrow, I'm grabbing a policy.

Wow, so, not getting Worth Ave after all. I read a lot of reviews on their FB page, and damn, no way. One person had a mechanical failure on his laptop, which they say they cover, but was told that they do NOT cover that, and wouldn't pay. Another person had her phone stolen, which they cover, but tried to say they didn't think it was likely stolen, so they wouldn't pay. Another yet, said she had to send in her phone to be inspected to decide whether to pay or not. Sounds like a scam to me. Nope. Thanks for the suggestion though. I would definitely be careful with them!
I had them. My phone stopped working overnight after a thunderstorm, so I thought it a surge. They wanted proof of the surge. How could I do that? I won't use them for this phone. Good thing Google covered it.

I've used Upsie in the past. I haven't had to file a claim but they seem to have good response.
I ordered my Pixel 2 XL on launch and completely forgotten to add insurance lol. So I'm also looking for 3rd party insurance. I bought insurance on my current Pixel XL on launch day and thankfully haven't had to use it.

Meh, the reviews are VERY mixed. A lot of people have had to wait 30 days for final approval. Many have had to take their devices to repair shops and pay before getting anything from them, one person never got paid. I think I'll pass... Thanks though!

Me too! I didn't even think about it. I clicked like hell through everything though lol. I'm going to either stick with my full coverage through Verizon, or go with Square Trade. My problem now is that Verizon covers EVERYTHING. Loss, theft, everything. But, $170 deductible, and I would get a locked Verizon Pixel for a replacement. With Square Trade, the deductible is a little less, and I would get another unlocked Pixel, but they do not cover loss or theft. I've only ever lost one phone, and had one stolen. That was back in the pre-smartphone-Nokia days. BUT, as soon as I don't have that coverage, it will probably happen... Not really sure what to do here.
Is square trade any good? Can't seem to find unbiased reviews on them for some reason. Do they try to deny claims?
What about geek squad? Looks like they do $7.99 a month for regular protection and 10.99 with theft protection.I need to find something as my XL 2 arrives tomorrow. My case hasn't even shipped yet ugh

$200 per replacement with them. You also have to pay a year up front. No month to month.

What is the 2 Year Pixel Extended Service Plan/Accidental Damage worth to you now?

Just wondering for the people who purchased the accidental damage/extended warranty plan. I purchased the 2 year ESP solely for "warranty" purposes and not for Accidental Damage purposes (even though it comes with accidental damage).
For people who got the extended plan; Is anyone going to seek a refund now that the Pixel 2 and the XL variant come with a 2 year warranty from the start?
Hate to break it to you but if you have to use the extended warranty plan even if it's for a phone defect you'll have to pay the deductible (Google sends you to deal with Assurant). With Google's factory warranty you don't pay anything for a warranty replacement.

So it's good for 1 year past the factory warranty. We're good for 3 years then.

Looks like Google clarified this, so it may be a little better for those with extended care. So, no deductible unless it's accidental damage.
"We also want to add some clarification on the 2 year warranty and preferred care.
If you already purchased your Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL from the Google Store or an authorized retailer, your warranty will be extended to 2 years.
The length of the preferred care program remains the same. If you have a mechanical breakdown issue in the second year, you will no longer have to pay a deductible. Accidental damage is still subject to a deductible. Yes exactly. I think some people thought that the preferred care/protect warranty didn't include a deductible if you used it for mechanical breakdowns but you do have to pay it. So by Google extending their warranty it benefits those that bought the extended coverage at well.

I may just keep the protection, but haven't decided yet. I like how the phone is IP67 resistant. I go kayaking on a lake sometime and get some splashes here and there. Always had to keep previous cell phones in ziplocked tight bags, but I do not plan to with this one. In case something happens during kayaking, would definitely be a claim
Also, It definitely is a lot cheaper than Verizon protection plan. Comes out to 5 and change a month over a course of 2 years? Not bad at all. Verizon would be almost double that

Verizon's plan does cover loss and theft though. Google's plan does not.

Verizon Support - No Pixel 2XL For Warranty Replacment

I just got off of the phone with Verizon Support after the proximity sensor on my Pixel 2XL started acting up. They told me that it is under warranty, but that they have no Pixel 2XLs to issue for warranty replacement. She offered a Samsung Galaxy S8+, which I quickly declined. She then said that they would have to issue a Pixel as a no-cost upgrade in order to get me a replacement. Has anyone else run into anything like this? I'm also wondering if the replacement Pixel will be locked to Verizon, or if I would be able to unlock the BL. Waiting on my corporate office to call Verizon and approve the replacement now...
Sounds like a load of BS to me. I've NEVER had a carrier tell me that they don't have any warranty replacement devices. I've heard of it happening and upgrading to the newer version of whatever phone though. Anyway, you should definitely call and speak to someone different, maybe even escalate it. Also, besides that it's BS they are trying to use an upgrade, your new phone upgrade will likely start over as well.
I just got my Verizon pixel 2xl warranty replaced 1 week ago to the day. I told them my phone would lag and freeze and I would have to restart it Everytime I wanted to listen to Spotify and get navigation direction is Google maps.
I wonder if they have a different inventory for corporate or if it is just a load of BS? Either way, waiting for my replacement to arrive. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to unlock the BL.

Once Verizon stops selling a device. This is the correct policy. You should get a pixl 3 if they stop pixel 2xl. Provided you insist pixel product as you have. Bootloader however will be subject to Verizon terms and conditions. So expect it to be locked. If it's locked and your old device was factory unlocked-original device is paid off and they do not work with you. You can always contact Google and try to see if support will help. Sadly if you accept a device from Verizon. Expect bootloader to be locked. No one will really know until you have the device. If you opt you don't like it. 14 day policy I believe at Verizon. ----fyi replacement doesn't wipe balance owed on prior esn. Terms still need to be met for financial obligations on prior devices linked to the agreement on the defective device before they will unlock.
As in. Buy on 01/1/2021 pixl 2. Warranty replacement 02/1/2021 out of stock replacement/$0.00 upgrade you then early upgrade pixel 3a. You then pay full retail to unlock 3a but you traded 02/01/21 device and it had $0.00 but 2xl had 24 months @ $20.00 you have to lay any balance on 2xl then pay off 3a
They tend the roll over extra weeks into new agreements on upgrades. Watch your bill.
Also good to Note. Verizon payoff policy. You must have any vzw device bought on post pay plans on the plan for 90 days before they will unlock Sim-bootloader anything- defined in terms at sale under fraud prevention. Read ur terms.
VZW will only warranty device THEY sell you.
In my decades of VZW experience you cannot warranty a;
1) device VZW did not sell you
2) a Google carrier unlocked device
via VZW warranty as you did not buy their device, and they only provide your network/data services.
But ANY device you get from VZW (warranty, payment plan, purchase) will NOT have the option to unlock the bootloader.
My pixel 2xl taimen. Is VZw paid but w/factory Unlock and never had a issue after OEM warranty and plan payment paid off getting them to unlock the device. It's all device dependent from VZW. Not all and almost all are locked. You have to research this information before you buy.
