Pixel launcher and OK Google - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

Does ok Google work ok this phone, even when it is off, so is it always listening?
Secondly does the pixel launcher work, so it gives it a slight pixel feel? Try here, no root needed. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-rootless-pixel-2-launcher-google-t3688393

No, it does not work with the phone off, or screen off. You have to have the phone unlocked for ok google to work.
The pixel launcher sucks. For me, it drained my battery really fast and I was unable to swipe left to access google now.

The one I linked is modded. So swiping left will work

Note 4 with "Ok Google" While Screen is off - Moto X Feature

No root, no need to download or install anything.
This work for other devices as well as the Note 4. This enables the Google now "Ok Google" Feature where you can active Google now while the screen is off. This is something like the Moto X feature.
How To:
1) Open Google Now
2) Go to Google Now Settings
3) Click on "Voice"
4) Enable "Audio History"
5) Click "Ok Google Detection"
6)Click "Always on" and follow the remaining directions.
You Can also watch this How To Video if you want:
If you device is unsupported or it just wont work, then there is an app called "Open Mic+ for Google Now" which does this for you.
This also works on the Lg G3, Nexus 5, and Galaxy S5, from what I know. Please feel free to try other devices and let me know if they work as well.
For anyone who wanted to know, this dose not kill the better. It doesn't even show and you wouldn't notice it was on until you said "Ok Google"

Only had the phone for 8 hours too soon to tell if it's a major battery drain. However my understanding of the snapdragon 805 is it has some type of architecture built which always apps to run in a low power mode without draining much battery and Google now uses this feauture.

The first day I had the phone I used it all day and had 2% battery life when I went to bed. Woke up about 6 hours later and though it has died. Nope still on 1%, so what you say could be true.
I have this enabled and can say that my battery life is great with it turned on.....of course this a completely subjective post. But I see nothing that indicates any type of additional strain on the battery. Playing a couple of hours of XCOM however...
Only works when SVoice is on
Something to note (no pun intended), when I have SVoice disabled, I don't have any setting "Always on", however when I reenable it("Turn it On") in the app manager I get the option.

i didn't have S voice enabled when i got this working.
Here is my power usage over night not plugged in with nothing else to compete with the voice activation. Although my battery life is still pretty good, considering the circumstance, this is definitely eating away at it.
Found that when you don't use the feature for a period of time it turns off. Not completely off but, i found that I would have to go into the google now then exit for it to work again. Anyone else find to have this problem as well?
Thread title is wrong, no? Doesn't work with screen off while not charging like the Moto X does. Only works with screen on (on lock screen or unlocked), or when plugged in.

I have noticed the same exact thing. The phone 'OK Google' doesn't work with the screen off, only when I turn the screen on or plug it in for a charge. Not a big deal, but I was hoping it would work without a screen being on. Still fun to use that function, it makes me feel like I'm in the 'OK Google' commercial

Don't think every reboot. I did one today and I used the command and it still worked.

Not true. It works for me when not charging, with the screen off, and with the device locked (fingerprint).

Same here, Screen off unplug or plug in.
Just got my lovely Note 4 today. I can confirm that "Ok Google" works for me with the phone unplugged, screen off, and lockscreen enabled.
I didn't follow the instructions in this thread. I was aware of how to activate the feature from prior experience. I'm not sure what step some of you all missed along the way to make this feature work.

Gmail Using Battery Notification...

So, I've found that in order to get notifications from Gmail as they come in (I have to have this for my job), it cannot be added to data saver, and it cannot be optimized in battery settings. So, I set it up this way on my new phone, only to get a notification saying Gmail is using battery pretty much every single time an email comes through, sometimes even when none do... If I optimize it, my notifications stop until I hit the power button or unlock the phone (usually).
I cannot seem to figure out how to stop this stupid popup from happening. Anyone else getting this? Anyone know how to make it go away? It's driving me crazy...
Install this app. It's been working fine for me on my pixel 2 xl and previously worked on my 6P after installing 8.0.

Sweet, thanks! Is there a reason why the Pixel does this? My s7 edge did not. I'm assuming it is something Sammy turned off, or maybe it's Oreo.

It started with Oreo.
This was happening on my XL 2 as well, but all it took was catching one of the notifications, sliding to the right and selecting the settings icon, then turning off notifications. I have not seen one pop up since, and my Exchange emails are still coming through fine.

Pixel 3 XL fingerprint reader to scroll all but dead.

I don’t use it that much but setting up the new 3 XL I see that scroll down rarely works and scroll up almost never. The 2 XL is faster and works both ways. Software? My screen also has a sensitivity issue in the lower left.
I know most don't use this but can anyone else try and see if theirs works?
I can try like 8-10 times and no response and then it will work. The 2 XL just works.
For me it works every time!

Yes, works. I'm looking for gestures to install - exactly for quick notifications and apps drawer - swap down and swap up.
Same problem for me.
I can't use it as fast as with my Pixel 2 XL.
It's weird but if it didn't launch with one finger, I change of finger, and then it works ! [emoji16]

Thanks for the replays guys. Just making sure I’ve not got a random bad unit. Mine is only reliable if I move slowly across the sensor.
I can make it not work, if I move my finger over it too quickly, the swipe down/up will rarely or never work.
If I slow down deliberately, it will work 100% of the time both ways.
The 2 XL seemed to be more forgiving with regards to the speed of the movements for me.
I have the same issue. I find myself swiping the fingerprint multiple times sometimes just to get it down, but sometimes it'll work perfectly with the first swipe.
Kind of annoying.
I'm having the same issue as well. Sometimes it works perfectly. Other times it's completely unresponsive.
I had few issues but what ive noticed , to get good response i need to scroll fully covering the reader with my finger. . Also, when i scroll, I need to scroll from all the way up, and i mean over the finger print reader, starting from the glass onto the reader and down, it works like a charm. As soon as i put my finger on the reader and try to scroll down it will be hit or miss.
Works better for me than it did on my 2xl

Screen On/Off Animation Lag

The 3 XL has a really neat transition animation when you press the power button or double tap to wake, where your notifications kind of unfurl on your lockscreen.
Trouble is, I'm getting laggy animations 80% of the time. On occasion and for no apparent reason, it works and is fluid and smooth, but otherwise it's really choppy and stuttery. It's almost as if the phone is struggling to wake up properly.
Anyone else experiencing this? I noticed this pre-root, after root and on both stock & EX kernels. Rebooting the phone does not fix it, and it doesn't matter if the AOD option is on or off.
Yeps me to (
seeing some lag with the notifications on the lock screen, Don't know what could be triggering it
Same problem here on regular pixel 3, except it happens everywhere throughout the UI. I even got them to send a replacement device and it had the same issue. Really frustrating. Neither my pixel 1 or 2 had this issue.

I'm facing the same issue. It's especially apparent when there are notifications on screen. Swiping a notification away looks incredibly laggy and painful. Really odd.

Does that happen with the December patch ?
I had a similar problem on my Pixel 2 xl when I would pull down the notification shade. Turned out it was Pokemon go. Every time I had a notification from that app it would do it. The second I swiped it away it would go back to being fluid. I haven't installed it on my 3 xl.
Might want to swipe a notification away and see if that fixes it. Maybe something is weird with one app

I can confirm I'm still getting the issue with the December update...
I've noticed it's most evident/prominent when I'm on 4G/mobile network. When I'm connected to a WiFi network, it's almost always fluid. Weird...
I'm still getting the problem with the january update, I also present problems with the fingerprint reader when activating gestures, it doesn't always work
Anyone have further information on this. Really laggy compared to my 2xl. Same issue booting into safe mode as well

Yup this one so far has been good.
I also get this issue. Anytime I start seeing a bunch of lag, I always have a notification from Poke'mon GO. Once I clear it the lag goes away.

Pixel 3 XL navigation no longer working

This just happened to my phone for whatever reason. The bottom portion of my screen (where navigation is located) will not work any longer. I know the touchscreen is still working, because i can scroll down a website and it still will recognize touch but not if I am trying to use the navigation buttons. I have tried gesture, 2/3 button but none of them work. I even flash a stock image (didn't do a full wipe just unrooted it) to see if this would fix. If anyone has a fix for this please let me know.
Thanks!

I came here to see if anyone else was having the same issue! Yes, i have to hit the docked icons several times before they open. wasn't an issue a day or two ago......
Sucks but glad to see i'm not alone. must've been some kind of play services update or something that broke it.

Yep having the same issue. The dock icons aren't always working, but the screen does because I can still scroll everywhere.
I also noticed that not all of my screen is being used. I black bar bezels on the sides of my screen. Looks like a full reset is inbound when I get home.
Ok, i was on plays services 19.4.20 and updated to the beta and now this is fixed!
Here is the beta version from apk mirror: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-19-5-28-release/google-play-services-19-5-28-120400-273329419-android-apk-download/
you can install this app to quickly check your version. it used to link right to apk mirror but they took the functionality out unfortunately: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weberdo.apps.serviceinfo
whew - glad that was an easy fix! hopefully it doesn't auto-update and break it again or something.
This has been going on with me since a mid september update. JUNK PHONE this pixel 3!!! First phone by google that I really hate. Contacted google about that, they asked me to clear all cache from the UI, play, etc... I still have the same issue...

Personally first big issues that I have had with the phone. I just full restored and am restoring everything from the built in backup now. It fixed the issue though so at least i don't have to buy a new phone lol.
