Pixel 2 or OP5T ( Main priority : Camera ) - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I am looking for a device which gives the best camera performance . I don't care about screen and performance . Initial reviews arent that great and is there any room for improvement of OP5T's camera performance cause the hardware is capable for taking some best shots ?

OnePlus 5T will not have better camera performance than the Pixel phones.
That said, sideloading the modified HDR+ Pixel Camera APK will certainly improve the performance of the 5T's camera.

I just returned my Pixel 2xl and am ordering the 5t. But the camera was awesome on the pixel 2xl. The video sound was awful when recording but I assume that will be fixed with an update. But the camera too terrific pictures.

Same here lol. Sent back the pixel 2 xl, ordering the 5T tomorrow. Will miss the camera/battery tho

How do y'all send back a phone

Lol if camera is what you need you won't find anything better than the pixel. You know that

If main priority is camera, then pixel XL for sure.

Go for the pixel 2 xl, or for the op5t + a dedicated camera (at the same cost). The 2nd option might net you better pictures if you don't look for portability.

Request a return under the order page. If you're within the 15-day return window, Google will send you an e-mail for return instructions and prepaid return labels.

Google Pixel 2 XL | or | Oneplus 5T

I am confused between google pixel 2 xl and oneplus 5t, which phone should I buy?
The purpose of buying any one of these phones is to install different custom roms.
so what you people suggest which phone will have more custom roms?
Thank you.
should surely be 5T. but launching with Android N just sucks!
I came from a op5.. Although both are during 835, the pixel is so much smoother and also the touch latency is much lower..
Facing the same dilemma here.
On one hand, the Pixel 2 XL is a clear winner for me since great (if not the best) camera is very important to me. However, the screen issues (talking about REAL issues like flashing, green lines, etc) are putting me off since I don't live in a country where Google has an official store, meaning - every return/warranty claim is going to be a nightmare.
On the other hand, the Oneplus 5T seems like an almost perfect device. Great build, fast and fluid UX, low price tag, but there are 2 things holding me back - the camera isn't as good as the Pixel's. Not even close. 2nd thing is security - no timely updates and the whole spying/data mining fiasco lately just shows how security is NOT taken seriously by Oneplus, unfortunately.
So I'm basically torn
You can buy 2 op5t for the price of one pixel. So you get good value for money. Pixel 2 xl doesn't seem good value.

Pixel 2 XL is more expensive, but better in every way (except charging speed)

If a person is buying a phone just to root and ROM..... no, the One+ is a better buy so long as you're not worried about the camera. For the better camera and a fully device supported over the life of the phone the Pixel is the better buy.
If your just talking about custom roms go with the 5t.

Is the Oneplus usable on all major carriers now? I always wanted one, but I'm on Verizon.
If you care about having Google's android and functions and 3 years of update (3 versions after Oreo) go for the Pixel 2 XL.
But of course it's more expensive

If you don't care much of camera quality go for the 5T. It's cheaper and you can buy other toys with your money.

Is it really worth buying a google pixel 2 XL?

I'm with a huge doubt, which one to buy? an OP5T or a GP 2 XL, what I most want is to have a good battery life. But I've been thinking and looking for forums for 3 days but I do not decide. I would be very grateful for your answers and recommendations.

I have the note 8 and the pixel 2 xl { just recieved}
For you it's what's in your budget.
The pixel can be double the cost of the op5t.
I wanted the pixel for the stock andriod experience, camera, and speakers.
My note has wayyy better features but I like the simplicity of the pixel 2 xl
Op5t is the most practical
Don't forget the camera. Pixel 2 has the best camera.

I come from an S7 so if I go for the OP5T I would miss the camera, but I am willing to live without a good camera, but I want a good battery life. Pixel 2 XL has a higher percentage of battery but I do not know if it will be enough to be better than the OP5T in battery.

Most of the new Android phones with SD835 get great battery life. I had the LG V30, and holy cow that thing got off the charts outstanding battery life. Best I've ever had, like 9h Screen On time. And I heard the S8+, OPO5, and other phones also got great battery. I would think the Pixel 2 XL will get slightly better battery life than the 5t

I struggled with buying the 2xl for several weeks. I am really happy with it and glad I went with it. I thought the same thing about the camera but my mind has changed big time! A REALLY good camera.

I've just picked up a 2 XL and I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it or not, what I really like is the camera and the speakers, the size, the build, what I don't like is the software (let me explain) I love the smoothness and speed and stock android, what I don't like is Google have gone a bit like apple, you can't even change the font without root (from what I understand only had the phone a day so not 100% on that ) coming from a U11 I'm already missing the theme store and the customisation that offers, so its left me in a dilemma to keep this phone or not, really tempted to send it back and get a U11 plus, but man it's buttery smooth and the battery life seems amazing I've used it a lot today...

Pixel 2 XL or OnePlus 6

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been on these forums. Currently on my Nexus 6P but looking to upgrade.
I've loved the use of stock & clean android. As well as regular updates and a decent camera. I'm interested in the pixel 2 XL but have seen a lot of bad press about issues.
What is the general consensus on the phone? Would the OnePlus give me a similar android experience? It's supposed to be getting a decent camera too and cost £499. Was interested in people's views!
Cheers!
The only real difference is if you want a really good rom community or if camera is more important.
It's simple If you want better camera with some rom support or root. Get the google 2xl..if you want rom support then go one plus 6

There's a thread on this somewhere on XDA if I'm not mistaken. The opinions I've seen are kinda like the ol Ford vs Chevy debate back in my day. The best summation I can give would be.....
If you want fast, regular security updates and arguably the best camera out there, then the P2XL is the call.
If you want more development, larger ram capacity, and an OK-good camera, then the OP6 is what your looking for.
Again, this is a very short synopsis

Along with horrible QC, the avg replacement device being 4 (not for blue shift either) lol(I'm on replacement #8). It's no longer the best camera. Stereo speakers are pretty meh, stock has it's pros but a crap ton of cons. Op gets fast updates as well lol, squeeze google assistant isn't a deal breaker. Google photos is like 3.00 a month for 100gb, the "free" isn't that impressive. No doubt pixel 2 xl isn't the obvious choice anymore lol. Also OP is 300.00 less lol and better build quality.

Well I bought 1 and I'm happy, there's blue shift but hopefully not so much. To me it's the best on HDR and that's why I bought it too. Well the best stereo speakersare those from ipx and i8p , and to me those on pixel are ok . Fast updates it's on the same week to me. Squeeze isn't a deal breaker but a nice feature. No Google photos are free and the full quality. Don't get me wrong I got op5t too,
But to me the pixel it's much "smarter" then the others mobiles

Interesting to see some of these replies! Pretty much the debate I'm having in my head haha. I love my Nexus as it's as great now as it was on day one... No bloatware and up until Oreo 8.1 fast updates.
I think for me the camera is hugely important. If one plus can release a camera that is better than the pixel 2 XL ... Then that may do it for me! Good to here they have fast(ish) updates too. Rumours are OnePlus 6 will have a triple digit dxomark I think!
Im the guy who keep buying a new phone in 2 or 3 months, I switched back and forth from any flagahips on the martket but there is always a few little things that keep bothering me to change a new phone until i got pixel 2 xl last week and its the perfect one.

iPhone X

Pixel 2 XL now
All of the above pros for the Pixel XL 2... it's a gold mine of goodies!
both phones are great, but the pixel 2 XL is definitely a bit better in several ways
Loved my Nexus 6p and if it wasn't for the battery issues I'd probably still have it however I do really like the pixel. I don't really see the issues that have been reported. If you can afford both phones then the pixel is the one for me

Dxo mark rating doesn't really mean that much it is same as running a performance benchmarks like antutu etc
See, pixel has only one camera and still scored the highest but all these phones s9+ p20pro have 2 or 3 camera henceforth the triple digit figures
If pixel had secondary camera such as telephoto then it would also had a 100+ score
If you want to compare the dxo mark ratings then compare the main lens rating on their site
P20 pro vs pixel 2xl on youtube evry video in the end says they would go with pixel because it is consistent
Cheers ?

I think the same and all the videos that I saw the HDR it's always better on pixel 2,
Better portrait on the market
Better HDR on the market
2nd or 3rd on low light, even though I still think pixel got it better.
Better color accuracy
Etc etc
The only one thing that the pixel camera doesn't do it better, it's the zoom , well that's normal with only one camera
---------- Post added at 08:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 AM ----------
I use to change roms every week but now I do prefer stability and security.
One plus got 8.1 and I'm already on 9.0 that's a huge difference, and Will be always like that.
If oneplus 6 support VZW...bye bye Pixel 2 XL. The oneplus is a quality, low profile/thin bezel phone with great dev support from their company and online on XDA. They won't say if they are going to support VZW yet, but heard they are looking for a US partner in the coming 6 months. The Pixel 2 XL is so bulky, thick top/bottom space, and the features of the OS are lagging behind a few things that the OnePlus Beta 5T phone currently has that the 6 will have baked in, like fling/nonav bar gestures like iPhone. They've had it for months in the beta, all the apps are scaled to use the screen space without the bar...not such thing in the standard Android/Pixel OS builds, and then, not done at all or very well. I know devs try their best, but it isn't proper.
Only thing about OnePlus is the camera, next one should be much better hopefully. But then again, unless it works on Verizon...doesn't really matter, and my choices are limited for modding/bootloader unlocking etc..to the Google phone really, or HTC.
Thanks very much for all the advise guys! Great to see arguments for both phones haha!
Currently can get the Pixel 2 XL for £600 from carphone warehouse. The OnePlus 6 is likely to be £500.
I think the make or break for me is going to be the camera. I'll wait and see what the camera is when the OnePlus 6 is officially announced on 16th may. If the camera is better that may sway it for me, if not I'll get the pixel 2 XL!

[NOW WITH PICS] Any way to make pixel 2 take better photos than a 150$ Chinese phone?

Pixel tend to make pictures more warm, especially those snow shot. This is however not correct, the snow doesn't look that yellowish. The redmi is too cold, so it's not correct either.
Thes eye shot is a selfie, cropped for anonymity.
I received my pixel 2 xl and how can I say, I've never been so disappointed by a new phone ever (from the blue shift to speaker rattling at medium volume and pictures quality)
The worst part is the pictures it take, they look less good than my Redmi note 5 that i paid 150$.
My redmi is using a custom Gcam, the contrast and everything look similar to the pixel but there's much less noise and things look sharper (I'm not even talking about selfie in low light, the difference are staggering)
Anyway my question is, I know there's some custom Gcam on the pixel too. Do we need to be rooted to install them?? Do they make the pictures look better than stock Gcam. How is the noise control? Does everything work on those custom Gcam? I read about Cstark Gcam, but what about the other?
Thank you

Your Xiaomi's camera, even if with gcam, is not even comparable to Pixel's.
If it's like you say, your device must be faulty, ask for a refund/replacement.

So the front camera and back camera are faulty?
The photos i take are similar to what we can see in pixel 2 sample i found on the web, but that's still noisy and grainy compared to what custom Gcam can make even in a cheap Chinese phone.
I don't think it's faulty, just normal Gcam that was tuned for speed to the detriment of quality. I'm even starting too think they Google intentionally cripple the picture quality of pixel 2 to not compete with future Gen.
Anyway, anyone have experience with custom Gcam on the pixel? I'm in the edge about returning it...
hahahaha wtf?! Redmi Note 5 better than the Pixel 2 at taking pictures??? Really?!
You do realize you're talking about one of the best smartphone cameras in the market, right? Just read any decent review or photo shoot comparison.

I'm not talking stock camera, it's incredibly bad you're right, I'm talking customised Gcam.
Yes the pictures are currently better than the pixel. I spent my whole day yesterday comparing it and the only place where pixel is better is at guessing color temperature. However this can be fixed in 5 seconds in snapseed.
Anyway, nobody can answer my question. I will need to reopen the box and try to install custom cam... However i can't unlock the bootloader or root or I won't be able to return the phone.
I should probably try to post it in another section, people here don't seem to know how Gcam work.

Why are you surprised?
Gcam on pixel phone stack only about 10 pictures when doing it's HDR+ where custom one on any phone can stack 32 pictures! The result is less noise, that's how Gcam work and that's why i get less noise on the redmi. The downside of it is it's much slower, it take about 5-10 seconds to process the picture, sometime more in low light, but the result is totally worth it.
I'm quite sure a custom Gcam on the pixel will be better and faster (especially if it can use the dedicated Gcam processor) than what i can get on the Xiaomi. Stacking 32 pictures with the pixel core should not take longer than 2 seconds! I'll investigate.

They are both the same. Like i said pixel is better at temperature guessing though (even though i think it make things a bit warmer).
The only difference is noise. That's why i want a custom Gcam to stack more picture thus reducing noise. I don't care if it take 5 seconds to process the image. Anyway I'll try at home.
I'll post my experiment later!
Just a suggestion for the OP: if you just ramble on about a Redmi being better than the Pixel 2 XL at taking shots with both cameras, you'll only be laughed at in this forum and anywhere on the internet.
If you want to start a reasonable and hopefully productive discussion, just upload some comparative shots taken by you

I've unpacked the return box of my phone and configuring it as we speak.
I got this Pixel for 160$US during a black Friday promo in Canada. If I'm thinking about returning it, is because something is really wrong.
Hooray.
I've downloaded custom Gcam. No need to root!
The result look very promising.
Already much less noise and much sharper compared to stock Gcam! I might keep the phone after all!

Whatever, yes stock cam is not the best.
And yes, custom Gcam improve the performance.
Anyway, I decided to keep the pixel finally.
I fixed the rattling sound by pushing the speaker grill and I'm getting used to the blue shift.
I'll try to give sample photos tomorrow of pixel vs Redmi. The difference will surprise many in here! I'm still hesitating about which one is better... People think pixel are great at pictures because of hardware but really, it's all about the software and the AI algorithm.

I'll try to give sample photos tomorrow of pixel vs Redmi. The difference will surprise many in here! I'm still hesitating about which one is better... People think pixel are great at pictures because of hardware but really, it's all about the software and the AI algorithm.

I don't think it's another thread/forum you're looking to for answers. I am a semi professional photographer, in the sense that it is my side job and took classes for it. The past 2 years I have tested a good 10+ phone cameras ranging from Mate10pro, 1+, G7/G6, Ipxs, etc. I ended up with the pixel because of it's amazing photo quality. Anyway, all you have to do is post comparison pictures, without them your statement is worthless.
" My Samsung J3 takes better pictures then a Nikon D7500 can somebody explain this. I won't provide pics to prove it just take my word. Ok I'll provide pics, tomorrow. "

worth it to upgrade to one plus 6T?

I am starting to get bored of this phone. In your guys' opinion, is it worth it to upgrade to the OnePlus 6T? There just aren't that many options for an unlocked phone on Verizon
I've tried the 6T for the same reason - boredom. It's cool at first with the in-display fingerprint sensor, better screen and overall performance, but after 2 weeks I realised that I made it look like my Pixel and I do the same things with it. I'm back on the Pixel now (bought the 6T from a store with good return policy). The OnePlus 6T it's a great phone, but if you are bored I don't think you'll find something different in the 6T since it's really close the the stock Android experience.

awesome, okay thanks. I guess I'm basically looking for a phone with better specs. Not sure if we're going to wait for the pixel 4, get the new one plus phone, or get this 6t
I think the 6T would be a side grade. I would personally wait for the pixel 4 xl. I've tried the Xiaomi Mi 9 which should be an upgrade in every way, but it didn't feel the same. It wasn't polished like the pixel was.

If u want to upgrade do it but be smart about it, wait till the oneplus 7 comes out and watch the oneplus 6t price drop. I wouldnt recommend u getting a 1000 dollar phone. Just not worth that price in my opinion.
Guys I also thinking of upgrading to s10e. Do you think that I will regret? Size and full flat screen really attracts me. Only camera and lack of front facing speakers are bothering me.

Then don't get it. Better wait for the Pixel 4 or even for next year, imo.
What about p30?

The same ???
The P30 has a locked bootloader, a weird and forked OS, delayed updates etc. Not my cup of tea...
I will wait for pixel 4 I think. Which is very long time to wait. More than normal release date because it is not sold in my country
I've gone back and forth with my 6T. I'm only on my 6T because Pokemon go won't work with beta Q..
I went back to my other because
1) wanted ambient display
2) better camera
3) original quality photo backup but this one is minor
4) front facing speakers. Kept covering it on the 6T
5) lighter and easier in the hand
6) don't have to worry missing notifications because of aggressive memory management on the 6T
6T has
1) more screen real estate.
2) better gestures but resolved by installing vivid gestures on pixel
3) better battery life
4) brighter screen
