Telephoto (second) lens not working? - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

There is a thread over in the Razer forum about this but i havent seen anything here.
If you cover up the second lens and zoom in it should go black (like another user stated) but nothing.
Is this affecting everyone?
No wonder some if my pictures are grainy

Working fine for me.

Are you on carrier or unbranded?
I'm on carrier and still havent received the system update which may be the reason.

yeah, after the last update, the 2nd lens is doing what it's supposed to. Since you're on a carrier branded razer, you'll have to wait until you get that update.

Yes I am unbranded. At least you know it will work when you get the update.

I can confirm this, I'm on .853 fw Three.
Seems bogus they'd send the phone out for resale with that lens seemingly doing fk'all lol - most definitely sold on false pretences and would certainly be worthy of some form of refund albeit supposedly rectified in the new fw as people are saying here.

So I thought I'd try a different camera app to see if the problem persists...

Since HTC claims it's a software issue that will be fixed in v4.3
Here's with the HTC built in Camera (I didn't wait very long, but it quickly went from bad to worse once the photo was taken)
http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...24dacf9/2/2/9/9/7/2/9/2013-10-03_07.39.30.jpg
And here's with the Google Camera apk (the photosphere capable one).
http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...24dad38/2/2/9/9/7/3/0/2013-10-03_07.39.55.jpg
The problem persists (I waited longer, that's why it looks worse), so whatever "software" issue is going on, it's definitely not contained to just the camera app. it's deeper inside the phone. Unfortunately, this just makes me even more sure that it's a hardware problem.
I think the crop of the picture makes a difference too. I have some examples to share...
This picture was taken with the HTC One camera in it's default camera mode. Not Zoe. You'll notice most of the issue is in the bottom right hand corner.
September 30, 2013 105807 PM EDT by one4thewings, on Flickr
HTC recommended I try third-party apps. Here is one I had gotten from Amazon. CameraZoom FX. You'll notice there is a bit of the blue discoloration in the bottom right.
September 30, 2013 105704 PM EDT by one4thewings, on Flickr
Now this third picture is back to using the HTC Camera.. however, I changed the crop to regular. It's a software setting in the non-Zoe mode. You'll notice that the blue is still there, but it's much less. Mostly, I would imagine, because the part that wants to discolor is off of the screen.
September 30, 2013 105851 PM EDT by one4thewings, on Flickr
Finally, here is a picture taken in Instagram. An even tighter crop and the discoloration is less noticable, but still there. And the out of focus thing is something I've been getting with this too.
September 30, 2013 110222 PM EDT by one4thewings, on Flickr
It's definitely not a situation in which a third party software will fix it. But neither did the 4.3 update if early reports are to be believed.
I know it may be a long shot but 4.3 may fix it. I was on a Droid3 and all of the user had a "blue" tint issue. This issue was visible not matter which Application was used to take pictures. I also part of both SOAK tests, and it is a little fuzzy at this point but one of the OTAs made huge improvements with this issue. It went away totally on my phone. So lets hope HTC can find a fix in the ROM code, and more importantly Verizon does not hold 4.3 hostage for 2 months of testing.
Might this be as simple as the plastic piece that covers the lens? Anyone have the balls to remove it to try?
It just seems odd that when I zoom in (even though the zoom is digital), the issue gets better..
So what do I do? Exchange phone for a new one?
thankfully for all of us on VZW, we're well within the warranty period so getting the phone replaced isn't really a hassle, especially if you go to the corporate store to get the replacement shipped. those guys work commission and will do whatever they need to do to get you out of the door, including sending your replacement without asking a lot of questions and asking you to reset the whole damn phone for nothing

unless you are already s-off from sonic, then it is a big hassle.

I posted yesterday in the forum where someone asked if the camera issue could be solved by heat that I posted a question to the sprint users that received 4.3 to see if the issue was corrected and they said no. It's a little better but still very noticeable. Booooo

Yep. My phone is to be delivered back from Sonic with s-off so I'm stuck with it I guess. I was talking to a guy on here yesterday and he said when he sent his in to be repaired with s-off they charged him £160 to replace the whole board in the phone. F that. I'll just deal with it. We shouldn't have to, especially since htc had several months to correct the issue before our variant launched, but it is what it is. It blows.
I've been jumping through HTC's hoops. Doing the different tasks they've required of me to resolve my camera issues.... finally, I got this answer last night. And I am not amused.
HTC Support said:
In this case, I would like to recommend you to go ahead and for the meantime use the third party camera in order to take the pictures you desire. I understand this is an inconvenience with your device and this will not allow you to use to the fullest the camera application on your device.
Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced and appreciate your patience as we work quickly to investigate this matter. In some instances, we may be able to deploy a software update to address an issue. We recommend you regularly check your device for updates and download them when available.

Well that's great HTC "support". Basically, "Okay we know there's an issue but don't know the cause and rather than us give you some definitive information on what we plan to do to remedy the problem... Just use another camera app. Bc we couldn't give 2 ****s. Thanks for contacting HTC!"

After a week of this back and forth I finally cracked and responded in a sarcastic manner.
So the fix for my faulty HTC One camera is to use a third-party software that still demonstrates the camera flaw - just to a lesser degree? Perhaps I am asking too much that my one month old phone be right when I purchase it but I'll play along. Could you please recommend a third-party camera application that features the ZOE software? The face swap is nice, I suppose, but it's unnecessary in my case. So pointing me toward an application that can performs ZOE functionality would be appreciated. An added bonus would be an app that auto-corrects the odd tinting issue, but I understand that one might be a pipe dream.
Your assistance is appreciated.

I should have looked at this before responding.
This was the latest I got from them:
The option to download a third party app for your camera was to check if you were able to use your camera, not the Zoe feature, without any issue while we work, develop, and deploy the software update to have the issue with your camera resolved. I understand you want to enjoy the full features of your HTC One, like for example Zoe, and that this issue is causing you an inconvenience which is not allowing you to do so and for that I would like to offer my sincere apologies.
I have noticed that as we continue down this road that my tech support guy, Alejandro, is growing less proficient with English. I guess we're moving away from the pre-designed conversation templates.
I replied with this.
So this is a known issue? And a solution is being developed to address the camera issues? I would like additional information about this please.
I'll toss your percentage into my next message, since I'm absolutely certain that we'll not have this resolved in the immediate future and I'm sure not clicking the "I am satisfied with my problem resolution and would like to close my ticket" link.

See the thing about their "while we work to resolve this issue with a software update" is... They didn't resolve it. The 4.3 update for sprint users didn't fix it. So I'll believe htc when we get the update and see it has, in fact, been resolved. I'm not holding my breath though.
I should have done what Sonic did and went back to verizon and had them bring out handset after handset until they got me one without the issue. I just don't have time to mess with Verizon in store for 79 hours. The average trip to verizon for me is roughly 2 hours bc I think some of their associates have severe learning disabilities. I had to show the lady how to do this upgrade on HER computer. She couldn't figure it out. It was ridiculous.
Yeah that's part of my concern too. how many dozens of mailed-warranty-replacements would I have to go thru until I get one that doesn't have the issue

My Oppo Screen is genuinely faulty - Dim Screen

EDIT - UPDATE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57408758&postcount=25
So before getting into this - I want to share my video that demonstrates it:
I bought a second Oppo Find 7 (both were directly bought from Oppo Style) and now the second one (my mum's) has, as I had feared a brighter screen - that's also more "true" in colour.
Now let me get a few things straight with everyone:
-Both are running stock ColorOS
-Both were on 100% brightness
-Neither had power saving features
-Neither have any "adjust brightness for screen features enabled"
-Both have stock screen protectors on (with or without it, it's the same issue)
-Both were checked in terms of "colour temperature" via the engineer menu
-Both were bought brand new from Oppo Style EU
Now I just wanted to put this out there for a few reasons:
1. For people in the same situation
2. For Oppo to see this
3. For me wanting to inform people
I should state I love the performance and design etc of the Oppo - and on my mum's phone I love the brightness.
My phone however is faulty and previously to making any video or posts, Oppo Style already offered a repair/replacement. I just wanted to wait until I was sure it was the phone and not my eyes.
I guess my eyes have been trained after all those PC monitor reviews I do on YouTube. Glad I wasn't wrong, but disappointed and saddened that I was right in my initial judgement - I now have to send the phone and be without my Find 7 for X amount of days.
Pictures are attached - again all phone's in the pictures are all at 100% (incl my Samsung S3) - and it should be pretty obvious which Oppo is mine and which is my mother's
-Dubbed
So why are you posting this if OppoStyle already offered you a replacement BEFORE you even posted this?

Inform them of what? There's nothing to inform them of. A defect occurred (this thing happens) and the seller offered to replace your unit.
The only case where this might be informative is if you had a defect and they refused to replace it.

Nope!
I guess you don't understand the difference between complaining and informing.
I'm not complaining about anything here - happy to see Oppo respond (let's see if they replace it) - I would be complaining if they:
1. Didn't respond
2. Didn't replace
3. Not care
It's clear Oppo care about it and are ready to look into it.
I'm informing people - because I've previously read people say the same thing - whereas before others would reply:
-"It's just how the screen is, due to it being IPS"
-"Change the colour gamma"
-"Change ROM"
Now this proves there are some phones out there (ie mine) that just don't have a bright display and are naturally flawed. :good:
I'm also not quite sure about the purpose of your replies - are you here to say something?
It's clear it didn't "help" you.
Anyways, mine had the yellow tint and I had it warrantied and oppostyle told me that Oppo doesn't make the midnight version anymore so I chose the white one (yay, the one I wanted lol), and after about a month and a half I finally got my phone back (took more time due to holiday in Hong Kong and them making a mistake with the address). The new phone is excellent, the screen is better than the other, looks awesome now, it's really bright, crisp, great color accuracy, and has that nice bright IPS look to it (not sure how to explain lol).

Well let's see - I've sent it today (30/10/14) - should arrive to them within a day.
Right so a small update:
I've asked Oppo to refund the postage and if they would be providing a new screen protector on the phone and they've tactically been ignoring my email....
By that I mean they've responded to the email (I've asked them 4x now) and each time they've ignored it.

Their (OppoStyle's) customer service is bad. They get the job slowly done but forget about details. They don't have much training and don't know how to provide proper customer service. They take time to answer, they ignore some questions, they're not detailed at all, they don't admit they're wrong until it's too late, and they keep asking you to provide the same attachments even though you've attached something in a previous message more than once (they're not proactive and won't go searching on their own much). After complaining to them about improving their customer service, one of them actually told me that they have excellent customer service because they answer within 24 hours (which is not always true at all), so they seem to think that that's all there is to it :/.
In my jobs, I have to answer clients within 2 business hours.
Anyways, to solve your worry, your new phone will have a screen protector applied (mine and others did). They will only refund the postage once they ship your product back to you and you receive it and confirm to them that you have received it (either using the tracking they'll give you or take a picture of the package and its labels). They'll only refund up to 30 USD.
Funny, you're asking similar questions as the ones that I asked, and I'm sure others asked also. They should REALLY have an FAQ or at least tell us beforehand that we only get refunded when it's shipped back to us. *Sigh*..
Try to ask to speak to Jackie Evans, she was the nicest one! (Something tells me these are all fake names though lol, not sure though, I had about 5 people handling my case, that's terrible, they'll get confused).

Yeah makes sense - that's the thing - recently a youtube subscriber asked me over facebook if I would recommend the Oppo find 7 - I told them: Just wait until I get my phone back, then I'll let you know.
The oppo has great hardware, but the fact that it comes in at the same price as the LG G3 and can't be easily returned just begs the question.
Anyway - I just want my phone working as it should do. I hope it doesn't take them long.
And yeah - I feel it is fake names too lol.

I really want to recommend Oppo but their software has bugs and they're unable to fix them all. The hardware is good, I like it, though the lens of the camera is a bit inferior because it's not edge-to-edge crisp like the G2's lens even though the quality is great and I prefer it over the G2. The phone is too long though and they need to stop making them that long. LG did a great job with the G2 and G3.
You'll get your phone back and if you get the same screen as I got, you'll love it.
I miss having an IR blaster though =(.

[Q] Anyone having camera issues?

Hi,
I was testing out the camera on our two note 4s last night. I took pictures of the exact same scene and compared them. Turns out that there is a pretty big gap between the quality of the pictures taken. On one phone, the pictures appear brighter and clearer. On the other, the pictures seem more yellowish and dark. I've attached images to show what I'm talking about. Anyone else with this issue? I can't decide whether I need to swap the phone out.
I swapped my phone out for other reasons. I was having issues with the top of the screen being a bit pink. The camera in the new phone is exactly the same as the old phone. It's like my wife's phone is shooting pics at a slightly cooler temperature. Wish that was adjustable. Her pictures are also clearer. It's like they are using two different sensors. Oh well, that's life I guess. I probably won't use the camera all that much, and there are so many other things that I do like about the thing.
Hi,
I have noticed the same issue..Today I went to best buy to compare the pictures from best buy note 4. I could see the little difference, exactly same issues with the color as posted by you. Did you exchange the phone? the best buy guy told me to try resetting the phone but I dont think it will work.

I exchanged once, but for screen issues. I had a screen that was a bit pink on the top and green on the bottom. My current screen is a bit uneven on the lighting, but good enough. I know that perfect screens on any device are exceedingly rare.
I don't think that I'll exchange it again, unless there's something else wrong with it. I have until Saturday to decide.
If you do reset the phone and it works, please let me know. That solution just seems like something that they say to get rid of people who are complaining. I can't see it doing anything at all. But hey, what do I know.
If it is something widespread, maybe it's something that can be remedied with a software update in the future. Is there any way that I can check which camera sensors are on the two phones? Maybe they're different.
I will see tomorrow and reset at best buy only so that I can compare. The difference is little so wondering should I exchange or not as I still have time. I clicked the pic from their cam and transferred to my phone and I could see the difference.

The difference is why I'm wondering if there is more than one sensor in use in these phones. I see no difference at all in photos that are well lit. It's only on pics that are taken in lower light that the difference comes out.
I doubt that I'd exchange for this reason. So far, everything else about the phone is seems fine. And I already exchanged once, and ended up with the exact same camera issue.
Went to best buy today and compared with their phones. Over there I could see very little difference between different phones so did not exchange it. I think its software issue and hoping it will be fine with the update.

Hoping that you're right. From all of the talk, I was expecting some wonder camera. So far, I've been unimpressed. Outdoor shots are nice enough, but indoor is strictly hit or miss for me.
I thought I was the only person that thought this.. I have a similar post with the same problem. Verizon guy says they would to have to send it in and etc. I just exchanged it for the turbo, I wasn't to happy either with his attitude. Its definitely a problem no one is addressing.
Sent from my DROID TURBO 64 GB
If I was having a problem with a 1000 doller phone you better bet you're sweet @$$ I'd be takin it back!
Yes, the camera is not great. Indoor shots are poor and I phone is much better. The reason I did not exchange it because I did not want to get a new phone if it has same camera. This is first time I am using samsung, hoping the note 4 will be amazing. Its slow than my previous phone (HTC, Iphone) but has lot of functions. Only good part is I got this phone for 99$ as I got 200$ rebate for my very old phone. I hope phone will become faster after getting android Lollipop.

Same. I actually did exchange my first one for other reasons, and the camera was exactly the same. Other than some minor screen issues, the phone is fine. I don't want to risk exchanging it for something worse. I only have three days until my 14 days is up, so if I get something with other issues, I am stuck.
I am hoping that this is something that they can remedy with a software fix. If not, I guess I can always send it to Samsung as a warranty claim.

[Q] New software for M9 - 1.32.531.33 (Camera Fix)

Hi. I was just browsing through and found some articles commending the newly releases update saying it fixes the camera to an arm's length.
Can anyone confirm is this update is indeed good.?

According to the comparison on the site, I think that's a decent update, the pictures do look better. However the quality to me is still nowhere near how a flagship device should take pictures.

Agreed! Its improving but no where near it should be. I can't believe it had to take all the bad reviews for HTC to finally start working on this. +1

Feel sorry for HTC actually, I think that they have been working hard to address the camera issue for many years now, but the customers' demand kinda make it really hard for them to follow
In 2013 they started their focus on picture quality, especially low light performance with the M7. The results weren't great, but it showed potential. The M8's camera to me focused more on features rather than quality with that gimmicky Dual-Camera system (which nobody really liked). But again, it was a very good idea for them stay away from the Megapixel and actually focus on what really matters rather than just give customers specs.
We should've encouraged them to stay on that path, but so many users seemed upset with the lack of picture details. So HTC has to give them what they want with a 20 MP camera which shows detail, yes. However, the image processing ability is such a letdown. And I think that this is not just a software issue, but also a sensor issue, I have never seen a flagship phone with a weird Toshiba sensor. But hey, what do you expect from a company which has been staying away from the MP war for awhile and now is forced to get back in?
Does anyone know when this will be released on the unlocked model from HTC, if it hasn't been already?

The Toshiba sensor has plenty of potential ..HTC just need's to get it tuned in
From the review of the Nokia 830 with the same Toshiba sensor
In testing by the PureView Club, Sony's 20.7 megapixel EXMOR sensor was compared extensively to the previous generation 20.1 megapixel Toshiba sensor. The overall finding was that the Toshiba sensor produced a slightly underexposed image, while Sony's sensor tended to overexpose (wash out). Generally, underexposure is more desirable as it can be more accurately post-processed to a neutral exposure. - See more at: http://www.dailytech.com/Lumia+830+...+Sensor/article36406.htm#sthash.JhEioRm7.dpuf

I didn't mean it that way. What I meant was that I think HTC Devs isn't fully familiar with how the Toshiba sensor captures and gathers pictures' info, especially after 2 years working with the "Ultrapixel" camera. Therefore the image processing software isn't optimized to get the best out of it and HTC released the phone a bit too early, they should've waited for a couple more weeks or even a month, look at the G4, LG sure take their time. I wouldn't mind waiting either.

Heard about Nokia? Finnish company bought by micro, known 4 having great cameras? It's about htc not very good at optimization of the software I think. Let's see.

I have the unlocked version and had this update right away too. I wonder if it is the same camera update.
Just wondering if you guys could give your thoughts on the camera with the update compared to before and compared to the M8 or the m7.
I am on 1.33.605.15 and there is no update available. You guys think this includes the camera update? I would assume so because it is a higher number but I haven't seen that build mentioned anywhere.
I am on AT&T in the US running stock and have Android version 5.0.2. HTC Sense 7.0, and Software Number 1.32.502.9.
Kernel version 3.10.49-gcea571a [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT

When is Samsung going to fix auto focus on the s20 Ultra in USA

Anyone have a timeline on when Samsung is going to fix their crap auto focus on the s20 Ultra? I have a 512gb which is out of stock everywhere but I don't want to be stuck with this garbage auto focus as I bought the phone for the camera and it's really bad like fix it or recall it bad. My guess is they will release something after the 15 days and it won't fix it and I will be stuck with garbage but whatever hopefully I get a high value on their fixed phone for trade in.
I too would like to know. However I am keeping mine as I have already traded in my iPhone 11 pro. I am just kinda stuck right now, and am just as frustrated that NO info is available for the snapdragon version. I am also unsure if my unlocked version will get it direct or if I will need to wait for it.

Nobody has a crystal ball and return it if your unhappy.
We're just gonna have to wait it out. Samsung is SLOW with their updates.
April update.
I've found a sort of fix . (For me anyway) I noticed when I was doing the hand swipe focus test (moving hand in front of sensor... Then moving when focuses and repeating).. and I noticed it was struggling until the little grey circle turned yellow from the "Shot Suggestion" feature... It looks like the phone is prioritizing getting a "good shot" to focusing... When I turned it off my focus sped up and seems to work instantly 99.5% of the time... Let me know if this works for any of you... Also I didn't read through the post so I don't know if this was posted or not.

It can be made better to where it works really well in daytime brightness. But will never be very good in low light. Most likely Manual Focus will be needed for very low light situations. That is because the S20 and s20+ use Dual Pixel Auto Focus (DPAF) and the Ultra uses a Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) which is good for fast auto focusing in bright situations like daytime but terrible in low light.

Shot suggestion was off by default on mine and I disabled scene optimizer as well.
Better question is why aren't the android sites or blogs picking up the auto focus/ camera story? Maybe a little more exposure will hurry Samsung to fix due to bad press.

I got Banned for pushing the issue in Samsung community. They obviously don't like the bad press.
Apparently Samsung has released a fix for Exynos variant https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s20-firmware-update-rolling-out-fix-camera-autofocus/
The only early review I saw that mentioned it was MKBHD and by that time my phone was already in transit heading to me.
Am so disappointed with Samsung i always buy the Galaxy/Note phone yearly and am doubtful i will continue.how can Samsung release such a god damn camera this horrible?? I have literally taken 0 good photos with this piece of **** phone. Every god damn photo I take seems like it was take with a phone from 15years ago. Am surprised no one has sued the crap out of them most people have already used up the 15 days return period or traded in an phone for credit and are stuck with this 1.4k piece of crap phone with no concrete info if or when it will be fixed.

Man, have some patience. This is a minor issue which only affects a small amount of people. Relax.

Seems to me it's pretty much across the board, not just on a small amount of people.
I cancelled an Ultra 512GB due to the many problems discussed in multiple places about the phone. If they ever fix it, I'll reconsider a purchase; but it has to be fixed first.

It's not across the board. Not a single person I know (including myself) who bought the phone is having the issues. Just a select few online.

Maybe for you. It's fine for me and everyone I know with Snapdragon. My point isn't that it's not happening. It's that it's not happening to the majority of people and even if it was, it's not something that would be considered high priority.
