GPS Accuracy - Honor 7X Questions & Answers

I’m sending mine back due to the fact that the GPS accuracy is 3 to 4 times worse than the 6x I’m currently using. I typically get around 5 meters of accuracy on the 6x according to GPS toolbox and on the 7x, even though I’m picking up most satellites, im getting a fluctuation between 15 to 30 meters. This is noticeable on navigation apps like google maps. Before I order another one, is anyone else noticing this issue or has it been working nice and accurately for most everyone else? Thanks in advance.

Nobody has experience with their GPS on this phone?

Agreed..
I've had better performance on lesser devices.. ( See Pic )
I find it somewhat strange that, accuracy for me is dependent on direction.. ( I don't rememeber that being the case in the past..)
I believe GPS is not a "Strong Suit" of the 7X.. maybe an update can help those of us that are not getting 6 meters or better.. it's not an issue for me.. but I can understand if you make a living using it.. you need it to work.. and work well.

8 meters isn't terrible. I'd have taken anything 10 or under. I'm ranging from 15 to 40 meters and it fluctuates. if people are able to get consistent satellite readings of what you're showing, I'll try again.

I've got bad GPS accuracy too, but for the first few days I had the phone it was fine. My apps worked OK, google maps, runkeeper, etc. Now I can't get location within a full city block of accuracy.

I thought I would just bump this one more time just to see if there are any more opinions of the GPS. I'm leaning towards not going back to this phone as it seems I'm not the only one with GPS issues and it's an important feature for me. Thanks again in advance.

Let Us Know What Device You Chose Over The Honor 7X...

No issue with the GPS at all and anything less than 10 is exceptionally good and i dont see why people are still complaining.
rest i hope have set setting to high accuracy and/or try calibrating the device for it as the procedure is available on XDA.

Well...

Had A Chance To Pull Out My Samsung J3 Prime..
I was STUNNED when I seen the GPS test results from the exact same spot as I was in with the 7X: (See Pic)
With 1 less Satellite than the 7X had I was still able to get within 3 Meters from that exact same spot...
I guess the accuracy is not the best on the 7X if a $50.00 device can do better.. Go for the $50.00 J3 Prime..

Anything under 10 meters may be exceptional, but that's where most phones perform these days. And I wasn't getting anywhere close to 10 meters with mine. More often 30 to 40 meters which is very poor for navigation. The honor 6x I've been using for months before this was consistently at 5 meters accuracy.
Raider, I ended up spending a few more bucks and caught the moto x 4 on sale for $279 with Amazon ads. Solid phone and accuracy is exactly in line with your j3 Prime at 3 meters constantly.
I liked everything else about the honor 7x and thought it was a worthy upgrade to the honor 6x, but I need to use my phone for navigation and it wasn't cutting it. Hopefully most people aren't having the same issue as Extreme as my unit and hopefully they can tighten the accuracy up with software updates.

That's perfect. I would love to see more people say there's is like that.

Once the 7x hits amazon next week I may try it again. Sounds like maybe my phone was a lemon. It sounds like it might not be the most accurate but most people seem to have it in a good functioning range.

Nah...

GPS Means Nothing To Me...
I was testing to give the OP my results.
And I NEVER take my device out of it's case... My case was here before the 7X and was installed within 2 seconds of box removal.. ( For resale purposes )
If the occasion should arise where I need to actually use the 7X to find a location.. a 26 feet variance will put me next door (at worst) to my designated destination... :good:
I think I can figure that one out...

I recently sold a device to supplement the purchase of the 7X.. I got a 5 Star rating because the device was treated the same way.. And still looked like new after 6 months use.. not even 1 scratch that you could see with a magnifying glass.. That's how new it looked.
Gotta run a case..

I have Huawei Mate SE - it is completely same model like Honor 7x and I have very big problem with GPS Accuracy - it about 40m-50m - TERRIBLE!

I used an app called "GPS Status & Toolbox" in the playstore, calibrated. Now my Mate SE has a 4.9m error margin outside in NJ and 19m error inside my house. Unfortuneatly... with the Mate SE I have to do this often unlike my OnePlus 3T...... I can see there is a software quality issue with Huawei on BND-L34 8.0.0.341(C567). I hope this can help ....

A quick review after 48 hours use

I have had the phone, bought from phones 4U contract free for the past few days and i wanted to give my views for people who may be undecided if it is a sound purchase. Just for the record i still have my iPhone 4 & Desire HD, so i am not biased.....
I was unsure about the form factor when reading the specs, but the lack of hardware buttons means it is literally 95% screen real estate, the display is a thing of beauty. I know others have reported colour issues, but i have not had problems with yellow hue. Or any other display issues. It also feels light but sturdy, i'm sure you will have seen the scratch test video. I'm confident that the screen will stay scratch free unless i drop it (To be fair i will probably drop it)
ICS - It is a great update for android. People have commented about it not being intuitive or user friendly. I spent the first few hours setting things up and finding my way around the OS and while it takes some getting used to it is far better than gingerbread. It is of course biased to Google+ - people who have concerns about not being able to sync their facebook contact pictures should use "syncmypix" it has done a great job populating my phonebook pictures. I have had some force closes, and apps from the market do need an update due to some compatibility issues. As this is a software issue i am not concerned. I would like to add that the face unlock is actually very good. I set the "gimmick unlock" to test it, and it has proved to be more than adequate for day to day use. It does not work in low light, but again hardly a surprise.
GPS is also excellent on the phone seeing a connection established nearly instantly.
I must be missing something with the connecting to other hardware issue. I guess people use their smartphones differently, but from my point of view i connect my phone to my PC to transfer files back and forth and sometimes tether my laptop to use the internet. Both of these things work fine and quickly, so i am clearly missing the issue.
The camera: Ok, the camera isn't going to set the world on fire. In the right lighting it takes a pretty decent snap, but if you are looking for a phone with a heavy emphasis on photos it probably isnt for you. No software updates will change that. I do like the instant shutter speed and it comes with some nice effects.
The battery: Hmmmm the jury is out on the battery. I usually like to cycle the battery over a few days till it settles down, i can then make a valid comment. So far though the battery is giving me approx 12 hours of use, i would consider myself a heavy user (It's a new phone and i'm playing with it lots)
Overall - If you love tech, and are an early adopter it's a great phone. The OS is lightening fast and the display is great. If you want something that 'Just works' i would hold on.
I HAVE NOT HAD THE VOLUME PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE COMMENTED ON. LITERALLY NOT ONCE.
Please feel free to ask anything about the phone, or if you would like me to try something out just let me know.
Cheers

are you even aware of the conditions that trigger the fault?
If you are not on O2, Vodafone, giffgaff, or Tesco Mobile...then you wouldn't experience the fault. Please give more info about what network you're with.
*sigh of relief* as I'm on Three I hope I won't develop these problems, as there's no 2G to switch to.
OP: good review, mainly mirrors my sentiments.

actually 3 does have 2G connectivity via Orange albeit dwindling down. Either way, both 3UK and Orange do not use 900MHz frequency band for their 2G service.

Good to know about the battery. I've heard many bad things about the battery life, so it's good to know that yours is lasting as long as one would expect.
Please post what operator you're one so that we can determine if it's all handsets that are being plagued by the volume problems, or just some or most.
I'm with Optus in Australia and I'm fairly certain that they operate on the 900Mhz GSM frequency

Hello
I'm on T mobile for the majority of the time. But do use my O2 sim and have tested it with both. Over the next few days im sure a clearer picture will emerge regarding the problem.
Thanks for the review. My contract is up and I keep going back and forth between wanting this phone and waiting for CM9 or some other ICS based ROM to drop for my dinc.

Screen brightness auto. No live wallpapers. Two full charges. One gmail account on push and one Exchange on push. I browsed Reddit for about 10-15minutes after waking up and that saw the battery down about 6% or so.
Since then I listened to Spotify on the walk to work (15mins). I've replied to some texts, installed/used a network Speed Test app once, showed the camera to a friend and took a panorama. And played with a few settings. Nothing intensive.

Thanks for the review - I really appreciate the time you put into it. I wondered if you think it is worth paying £100 pounds + more for this handset or go for the tried and tested the GS2 which is due to get the ICS upgrade at some point....There seem to be a few p'd off people leaving comments all over this forum regarding this phone.

Actual screen on time was 1h9m for 6h1m49s on battery. The % was where the battery was going (as displayed in the battery part of Settings).
I guess it's okay, but I'm used to a lot higher from my previous iPhone 4 and HTC Radar. But I guess they also didn't have 4.65" 720p displays
I've turned off Exchange push for now, as I don't really care about getting work emails on it anyway. Will see if that improves things, as read some vague topics saying that Exchange is a battery hog.

If one is considering the total screen on time, its actually about 2 hrs 18 min. (Double of 1hr 9 min). The % isn't measured according to time.

Should i buy the honor 8 pro?

Hello,
i currently had the nexus 5 32gig, before it broke.
I pretty much like everything about this phone
Battery, Camera, Build.
I assume i can get up to 9-10 hours? im mostly on wifi, and if i use my phone its mostly whatsapp or im reading something.
How well has the phone survied drop tests? waist height etc?
the thing with me is i use my phones without a CASE, ill apply a temparted glass OFC.
How well will it perform?
The only thing thats holding me back is that what if i break my display? i will go apply it in a my local market, but im not sure if they would have the parts?
my nexus 5 broke multiple times and now its broken.
i did check one link on ebay.in it should me the cost of 9k for the display.
Thus im hesitating, please advise.

I'm not sure about replacing the screen but, you should be good with tempered glass, since it's made of aluminium unlike honor 8 which is from glass.

If it falls on screen side, it may or may not break. Depends on your luck.
If it falls on the back side, it surely won't break down although it's aluminum back may get dents.
The screen replacement is gonna cost less than 10k.
If you are mostly on WiFi and use single sim, it would easily last you more than a day on moderate usage.

You should be good, just buy a tempered glass and you should be good to go
Yup, a screen protector and a back cover and they should provide enough protection so it would not break so easily. Though bad luck is always possible.

If you are on a budget then the Honor 8 Pro is a excellent alternative to other devices in the same price range.
Good Performance+ good battery life + dual cameras go for this .
In this price range there is a alternative too , oneplus 5->excellent performance+amazing development+decent battery life.
If you are flashoic then go for oneplus 5.
You should buy this gem right away.
My thought is nexus users are quite flashoic , may be he better to go for OP5.

I'm planning to buy Honor 7x (India). Heard good reviews about this phone, also on youtube channels. But the Amazon (India) reviews say otherwise. They state problem regarding fast battery drainage and youtube flickering and auto-restart after sometime. Please help!
Battery is pretty good. similar to my OnePlus 3T.

I contacted the huawei customer care, who fowarded the call to their R&D centre. I was given an ota update which solved the youtube flickering problem.
I'm in the same boat and currently using Zenfone 2 Laser. I'm currently getting 2-3 days of uptime with daily use of around 1 hour of whatsapp/facebook, listening to music for couple of hours, wifi/data on for 1-2 hours. Can I expect around the same from Honor 7x? I really like the phone and would've bought it if it had 4000mah battery, but confused now.

I Understand You Would Like Guaranteed Sure Fire Answer..
But what you ask, is impossible to judge.
No one knows what type of possible battery draining apps you have running in the background. Or for that matter,
Live Wallpapers..
Bright Wallpapers..
Your Enviroment... Hot ? Cold? etc...
The answer is Impossible for anyone to give but yourself. Can you get more than a day? YES :good:
Two to Three days ?
You have 15 days to return the device in the United States through Huawei.
You have 30 days to return the item through Amazon.
Give it a whirl.. and see what you think.

Just checked Amazon India return policy for mobiles and sadly you cannot return mobiles anymore. They'll only replace defective ones, that too within 10 days.
Thanks man! What you suggest makes sense, I just hope it doesn't breaks my heart to return the phone after reading great reviews about it's screen!
Battery life on this phone is the best I've ever had... Better than my Samsung Note 5, Note 3 and Galaxy S4 active. On days of light use, I take off the charger at 7:30 AM and when I leave work around 5 PM I am on 89%...days with moderate use, I'm at 70% at the end of the day. All of my other phones would be at 40%-50% from day one. This phone is unbelievably customizable. I have most apps set to sleep when screen is closed and some other items to save battery life. Also, I have a ASUS smartwatch with Android wear connected all day. Amazing battery life...
The only concern is texting is a bit wonky even with 3rd party applications. Scrolling through group texts is not smooth and tends to loop at times. Other than that---great phone.

Usually 1.2 hours of Bluetooth connection on my round trip to work and lunch with streaming music and about 25-40 minutes of phone calls. Connection to my smartwatch all day, checking Notes traveler email every 15 minutes (refreshes). Also, I probably take 10-15 photos for work each day and email to customers (20 MB), probably 15-50 texts during that period, calendar, Outlook and about 30-40 minutes SOT.

The battery is quite nice in this phone. I've jumped ship from Redmi Note 4 which had a massive 4100 MaH battery which usually lasted for around 10-12 hours (screen on time) depending upon screen brightness.
This one doesn't disappoint too. It lasts me for about 7-8 hours (screen on time). I've about 44 apps installed including the battery enemy messenger and Facebook apps too. I do think this phone is well optimised.
Screen on time depends on usage and number of active apps with screen brightness.
In ultra power mode, I left the phone at 25% charge at 10 pm and it was 25% at 6 am. So that's a big advantage again.
Here's a screenshot for you.
Battery life is really good on this phone...actually too good for my taste, as I found it killing Tasker, even though I had it whitelisted on their list of apps to kill when then phone goes to sleep. This was quite frustrating but I think I've found a fix in Tasker settings. I unchecked "Run In Foreground" and now I haven't seen it killed since, but it's only been 1 day. This seems backward to me but it seems better so far.

Amazon no longer takes returns on phones, only exchanges

"All mobile phones that are fulfilled by Amazon, purchased on or after 7th February 2016, will have a replacement only policy. Mobile phone items that are fulfilled by Amazon will no longer be eligible for refunds. In case you have received a defective or a damaged mobile phone, you will be eligible for a free replacement,"
Granted, this is from 2016, and I cannot find info regarding it on Amazon's website. But this is the reason i chose to buy directly from Huawei.
Yeah Amazon India also has no return/refund policy for mobiles anymore. Unfortunately honor india also doesn't have return policy, only 10 days replacement.

Anybody cancelling their order(s) because of the HORRIBLE reviews?

Been reading every review I've come across on the 20 U and they all have been saying the same thing, not worth the money, camera is barely better than 10, if at all. Has anyone cancelled their order because of this and going to wait it out? On the fence, as I've seen the pixel "getting fixed" , now several months later and still isn't. If anyone has come across a review, post latest update, please share. TIA

Nope. Because the reviews out at this point are early impressions based on not reaching expectations based on hype. Nothing ever hits that, and every phone review is basically the same as a result.
In the end, this is the best Android phone out there, and likely will remain the best for a year. Nobody else does "no compromises" phones anymore, because everyone else knows nobody will pay the money that it costs to do it. Samsung is the only player out there willing to take the risk of putting out a phone that checks all the boxes, and that's all I really care about - I am tired of paying close to a thousand bucks for a phone that has skimped out and leaves me wanting to upgrade a year later, and at this point in my life I can afford to pay more so I can just keep my damned phone for 2 or 3 years rather than regretting some annoyance 6 months later.
Nope, as long as it is better than my Pixel 4 xl.

I didn't get the impression that anyone was saying the camera wasn't better than the S10, only that the autofocus is slower. The camera is better than everything and on par with the iPhone 11 pro from everything I read.
Granted, it's hard to say a $1400 phone is worth it for the average consumer when the Pixel 3a and Chinese phones exist.
Maybe because it looks worse than my Note 10+ which looks worse than my 11 Pro Max which is king when it comes to video and night mode!
My delivery date is 03/17/2020 so plenty of time. Don't think that cancel button is going away any time soon. Real reviews will be live in a week running updated firmware.
After learning of the Samsung store's 15% restocking fee (!), I certainly don't want to make a $240 mistake.
Reviews are not horrible and everyone forget that phone is still 1 full week from officially launching. Everytime I get a phone on launch day, as it activates I get a software update. I'll be super surprised if there isn't a big update in the works coming in a few days
I'm going to try the phone out myself. People get way too emotional about new phones to give objective opinions and as others said, it isn't even released yet. I too have a P4XL and if I like it better, I'll keep it. I can afford it or I wouldn't have ordered it. I also just read Samsung's return policy on their website. It says you have 15 days to return a phone at no cost to you, shipping is even covered. I returned a phone a couple years ago and that's how it was. If that policy had changed I would think their website would reflect the change. returns

We know for certain that there's an update to let you turn on 120hz mode at full resolution, and one to improve auto-focus performance.
The auto-focus thing is not really a focus issue so much as an artifact that has to do with the larger sensors and lenses - it behaves a lot more like an SLR than a phone camera in terms of focal length and F.stop, and hence the depth of field detection needs tuning. It's the same reason that the phone gives such incredible bokeh even without turning on portrait mode. Think of it more like the transition from fixed focus to auto-focus cameras, and how people had trouble getting good shots in the early days. More savvy reviewers picked up on this and were already correcting for it themselves by the time of their reviews.
Bottom line is this isn't likely ever going to be as "point and shoot" as other phones are, but they can tune things better than they are now and are working on doing so. In exchange, when you go into pro mode you should be able to do a lot of things that you simply can't with other phone cameras.
Most of the negativity has been about:
Value for money
Specific camera attributes especially the worthiness of 100x zoom
Battery impact of 120Hz refresh rate
Size, weight, and protrusion of the camera array
Missing headphone jack
Boring and limited colors
My thoughts:
With $1K phones not so unusual any more I guess value is relative. With Samsung's liberal trade-in programs a lot of people are going to being paying a lot that than $1.3K.
From reading the reviews improved low light, excellent zoom up to 10x, and multiple ways to take everyday photos will make the camera great and a step up based on the way I use it. I do think some of the issues like occasionally wonky auto focus will be corrected with s/w.
I'll probably use 120Hz and probably have more than enough battery to get through my day. I'll turn it off when I'm travelling when battery is more important than smoothness. I'd bet fine tuning via s/w improves 120Hz performance over time.
I currently have a Galaxy Fold so the S20 Ultra will seem small. But for those used to big phones it's just another big phone. The camera array is pretty in your face but most cases minimize it. I ordered a black phone to help make the camera array less in your face.
Yesterday's news.
Whether black and gray are livable is individually subjective. Don't like black and gray? Don't buy the phone.
This is the first 5G phone that theoretically supports the deployed bands. That's kind of big and kind of cool. I'm on AT&T and cities I travel to have real 5G so it'll be neat using it. AT&T'rs with long term plans for this phone keep in mind their changing their topology in 2021 and it won't work after that. Other than that it's just another solid evolution of the things Samsung does well. I'm guessing for those buying it the phone's assets weighed against its liabilities still make it worth purchasing. To each their own.
How many people actually stop and write a good review, very few because they are busy enjoying their new phone.
I'm gonna rock the Ultra 5g 512gb.Cosmic Black and wait till the Note 20 5g drops and see how Samsung improves and streamlines from the S20 Ultra to the Note 20 plus, with the trade ins each time and the bonus credits of preordering,Still not a bad deal, plus 6.9 inch 120 htz.refresh rate.I'm perfectly happy with that.as for the bland colors I always put a case on it from day one so problem solved on that, but I dont mind Cosmic Black at all either.

Samsung seems to have multiple FAQ stores, some claim 15% on most items, others don't.

My new S20 Ultra is here
On Friday, I got my brand new, cosmic black S20 Ultra, to replace my S10+ and there is no doubt that the S20 Ultra is the best phone I have ever used. It is better in every respect than any other phone including the note 10+: The screen is unbelievable sharp with amazing colors and contrast. Camera is quick and snappy and the photos are the best I have ever seen from a phone. So, don't hesitate!! Buy this phone and you won't regret it!! Honestly, I have not read any horrible reviews. What I have read are several excellent reviews that also mention there are some issues with the Camera - but which look like they can be fixed with a future software update.
Certainly, it would be ideal to get a new phone and have everything work perfectly - -unfortunately, that isn't reality. The S20 Ultra still appears be an incredible phone - it just has a few software issues that need to be taken care of. I am stil feeling really good about the phone and feel confident that Samsung will provide u pdates to otake care of those issues.

4G still good today. Also, 5G will not be avaliable in every country in at least 10 years so, unless you live in US or any country that has any plans of starting to use 5G in a short period of time (2-4 years), is pretty worthless. Probably after 3-4 years (being generous) you will change your phone and you would never have used 5G in that time.

General Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 faulty

I got my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 on 20th August and less than 2 weeks later the phone is faulty and I have to sent it back. The problem is when I open the big screen as far as it goes it switches the phone off completely and I have to go to the small screen and press the power on button to swich it on. If I half open the big screen it still works.

A mates fold was shipped without download mode - really odd fault
Meh, the fail is strong with Samsung this year.
At least hold off a bit if you want this phone; let others take the ride before you decide.
Latter production runs might also have issues fixed by then.

Maybe not. Samsung's been imploding across the board this year. With their apps and multiple device hardware failures. No joke. Multiple threads on XDA of issues and phone returns.
Just had a Wearables update puke all over me last night. It has defied a solution so far and the Buds+ only work right on phone calls.

If you really want it, then do the warranty exchange and get a new one. No product line is 100% perfect. There will always be defective units. But that doesn't mean every single device will fail within two weeks. That's the most asinine thing I've heard all day.

The best possible failure scenario is that a device does it within its return window.
So the OP was lucky in that respect.
I be pi$$ed too for all that trouble.
Meh... once bitten, twice shy.
If you preordered, Samsung included Care+ for 1 year for free. Not sure if this is offered outside of the US. It's really a great device kind of a game changer for me.

Samsung isn't imploding. Realize that they sell tens of millions of devices and a small minority of people who purchase their products are here complaining about things on XDA. There is no widespread news coverage of Samsung making faulty devices, well, not since the Note 7. Your post is an exaggeration.

Time will tell
Just order my second new 10+.
I don't share your optimism or wuv of storage deficient devices.
My first 10+ still looks, runs like it's new, fast, stable and fulfilling it's mission with 1tb of storage, soon to be expanded to 1.5tb.
I rejected the Note 20U because of poorer run time, Adroid 10, poorer color rendering and unreasonable price. Not enough bang for the buck.
So imagine what I think about every release from Samsung since then... and I'm not near as kind as you.
2021 is already a dead year for Sammy
