[Oreo] - Updates on development? - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to ask a couple questions and start another discussion thread for those of us that have Oreo installed on our devices.
Questions:
With twrp on oreo, what's the status on the flashable version?
Anyone currently or thinking about creating new roms, kernels, etc for the device?
Lastly, what are some things that the nondevs here can do to help us all out?
Hope to see some good discussions
Thanks in advance!

Idk anything about the status of TWRP, so I can't help you there. Overall, I know there was an effort to get a device to a dev, and it was successful. Invisiblek now has one. Looks like he's working on lineage, which is super awesome.
The device now has a repo on the lineage github, so you can see work is being done. As for a timeframe, no clue, just have patience and know that it'll be released once it's ready. We're fortunate that Moto has already updated us to Oreo and it's a pretty stock interface. Only way they could've done better in my view would have been to update the device to support project treble, but that's an entirely different story.
That's about all I know, hope it helps somewhat.

Patience indeed. It'll move along at some point. Next to Sony, I think Moto has one of the cleanest implementations of Android, so it's definitely bearable.
Plus, with the price dropping into "steal" territory, I see more smart ppl coming this way.

Yea thank you guys! I'm being as patient as can be and I just wanted to have a thread here were any and all of us curious folks can have a place to talk about the upcoming of this device and the near future development holds for it. I didn't know it was on lineages repo so that's awesome to hear! That's a perfect example of why I created this post, just to spread the word into one forum and just have a couple chats with everyone about the moto.
Cheers guys, hope to hear more from others too!

Goodbye fellow A100 modders

It's been fun, but it's time to move on. There really isn't any reason for me to continue work on this device, linux society has his kernels and now builds a CM10 rom, and the only things that made my roms different are also in his roms, so I choose to stop work and move onto another device that needs some loving. His roms and kernels and other mods will make for a spectacular CM10 based rom for you guys, I'm sure of it.
I'll continue to work with waydownsouth for the a100 device for CM, but other then that, I'm retired from the A100.
Please feel free to continue to PM, email, or even gchat me for help or just to BS, you can still find me in #iconia-dev on freenode though I'm afk most of the time.
Kuroikaze B2 and CM9 Nightly B68 will be my final uploaded roms for the A100. Jellytime X will never be uploaded, it has issues that require some work after flashing that I just don't feel the need to fix as I'm just going to stop afterwards anyways.
I had considered moving to the A200, but linux society has also ported to that device, so I'll move off the Iconia devices entirely and find something new to mess around with.
I've enjoyed the community a lot, and I hope it continues to grow and develop as it has been for the last few months I've been a part of it. It's one of the calmest, most helpful communities on XDA.
I'd just like to say thanks for all your hard work. I've learned alot from your posts. And good luck on your next endeavour.
If nothing else, I hope you stick around in the community, even without your work. I understand your reasons and appreciate all you've done , but just having good people around fosters a better community i think, even if they aren't actively contributing to development.
This being my 1st post, and new to the A100 I really reek of noob, but I have truly enjoyed your posts, projects and tutorials - they have really helped me (and countless others I'm sure) understand things better before I starting playing blindly. A big thanks for this, and best of luck with your future projects!
The A100 wouldn't be as active and fun to use without tireless contributions and efforts of great members like you. Thank you pio for all you have done and your support. Best of luck on your new projects. Before I get my next device I would want to be sure pio is lurking in that device's forum

Still deciding between an a200 or maybe a thrive next. Not much besides modded stock is available for the thrive right now (sound familiar?) and it looks like a nice device to work with.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
thanks for all your work hope to see you around.
I hope you keep helping me with my noob questions, you're great man, thanks for everything!

Farewell to one of the greatest contributors on XDA
Thanks once again and as always Pio. Your were, IMHO, the most contributing member of this community. Always there helping out everyone in need, remaining calm to those who request things which could be easily found with a simple search, and always managing to get your posts in a second before mine . You will be missed and remembered by this community Pio. May you continue your great work (as usual ), and reap your rewards to come (you know ).
Cheers .

Well when I said I'm retiring, I meant ROM wise, I do intend to remain on the forums and in IRC to help futher the community, be it in helpful posts or testing something out for waydownsouth or godmachine or anyone else needing testing or work done for the A100.
That being said, I just got home with my new toy, the Toshiba Thrive. I'll be doing my research, gathering files, and hopefully, waydownsouth, randomblame, gh123man and godmachine/linux society would be willing to help me with the parts that are still beyond me (which is most of it lol).
I am planning to keep the A100 for awhile yet, though if I get a decent offer, I may take it. For now, though, the A100 remains in my possession and for now at least, still gets a little love from me (in other words, an occasional kuroikaze may appear on goo.im, you know me, if I built it, may as well share it). Its a discontinued ROM, but I do still plan to at least include upstream CM updates and changes from time to time.
Thank you pio for all you've done to make our a100s awesome.

So, Galaxy Wonder is dead?

First of all, I want to apologize to all the dedicated devs who invested their time keeping our amazing device alive for all these months. As many of you guys know, our beloved smartphone is on the verge of its 2 years b-day. Since Sir Arco decided to move on, I wanted to start this thread to prospect the community opinions regarding a question: When should we do the same?
I also noticed that, besides Sir Arco, some of our most distinguished are starting to begin parallel projects for other devices and/or other things, and are no longer keeping up. Please, it's not about ETAs, far from that. I'm an app dev too. It just seems that their attention are elsewhere. Altough it's comprehensible (2 years is a long run for any piece of hardware, afterall), I just can't help but wonder (unintentional, xD) if we finally reached our limit.
Please, guys. These are just thoughts. I'm not trying to start a flame here. But, are we now really a legacy device?
Peace.
No and yes. We've shown we can live without arco68 by porting lots and lots of ROMs (Android 4.3 based ROMs, for example) and kernels, but we're coming to an end, mainly because the dated hardware can't keep up with new developments.
For the next few months, I'll keep using my W on CM10.2 as a daily driver, but when I have enough money I'll definitely switch to a more modern device, preferably the next Nexus phone
Its not dead... yet. But we can all see the future...
However, if we try, we can delay the inevitable. It will help others, and make our device still "somewhat" up to date.
App developer? Try to make an app that will help the Galaxy W. I have moved to a Motorola Atrix 4G, so I noticed this.
Try something like that? The point is, instead of being remorseful about the upcoming inevitable, try to pitch in.
I (don't bother to do anything in the Motorola Atrix section as I have no idea of half of what they are doing) pitch in here and there in this section, but I'm not as helpful as arsradu or LeroViten.
In conclusion, the Galaxy W is a phone that will remain in my heart, thus I am trying my best not to let it die.
You should do the same.

Now that factory images are out, what is the next step in development?

As the title suggests, what is the next steps? Will we be getting custom ROMs soon? Or are developers not interested in Razer phone? I haven't heard anything in regards to development, and I am curious what to expect, if any.
Honestly have no idea. I find the stock romantic to be pretty good though. Just waiting for oreo to come out.
Ah well I just rooted with Magisk. I miss resurrection remix, what with all the customization.

Honestly, wait for Oreo. We seem to have everything for Project Treble, and Razer still says Oreo in Q1 2018. At that point custom roms become much easier
Yeah I'm waiting on oreo personally.. My guess is with its release coming shortly, developers would be waiting as well lol
The only thing I'm surprised not to see is a tweaked stock rom removing alot of the games and adding basic features like pre rooted, center clock, **** like that
Flashing twrp seems to be a bit tricky and I don't want to go back to stock once a new update comes out. So I'm waiting for Oreo which hopefully will make things easier.
Trying to learn how to do it myself. This device hasn't received much support so far, just seems like it was to little to late from razer for the big devs.

The first step I think is to compile the kernel from source and start porting features. I managed to compile it but I lost wifi and the flashlight for now

Development Doubt

Hello all,
I apologize if this is obvious or has been asked previously in any other way, but I need to know the proper reason behind it.
I wish to know what exactly is the reason behind zero development for this beast? I mean as far as I know Asus has released kernel source code and the bootloader is unlockable?
Is there something else preventing the development or are there simply no developers for the device yet?
Thank you!
There are 2 devs in this sub forum: Jpg3927 & scanno. I don't believe Jpg is in possession of the phone yet, and the latter has begun work on omni and twrp. Scanno said that he could not get system to boot, so no ROMs for now. He is also very busy, so progress will take time.

That is perfect, just what i wanted to know.
Thank you very much for exact picturing of the current scenario.
once devs have their hands on this phone they will start work.

Looks like we lost a V30 dev (A.I.S. ROM thread closed)

I really wanted to try out that ROM, as it seemed to check all my boxes for my soon to arrive V30+. Looks like the thread got closed due to some antics & egos, and the dev pulled all the links to the files.
Hoping it gets sorted out at some point....

me too
I was waiting for a stable release to my v300s ?
Appreciate the hard work but the rom was very alpha. Everything plus the kitchen sink but needed some work.

Perhaps, but now.... one less dev for our phones. Saw similar thing in Axon 7 forum, dev ported a bunch of ROMs, get Treble working, then got bored or lack of enough thanks, and split. At least he left the links up.
Ah well...same as it ever was.

True but that's why treble is great, there's a but load of GSI AOSP roms
From what I've seen so far at least on Axon7, is that most all of the GSIs still have a lot of non-working functions. The advantage of a "modified" stock ROM, is that it uses what was originally written for the device and can utilize all of the features we got the phone for in the first place, DAC, cameras, etc. For me rooted stock, debloated, with a different launcher & maybe some added audio goodies, & I B a happy camper.
But am always watching for custom ROMS that can deliver all the goodies. Fingers crossed. :good:

Seriously you need to chill down.
Like I already said in one of my previous comments (which you probably asked to be deleted because I was telling the truth) - internet will always be a place for people to hide behind aliases while acting like assholes.
You should have ignored those people or reported them for flaming and offending you, as they are a tiny minority, most of the people actually praised you for your work.
Now ultimately what you do is your choice, but it's kind of a childish thing to do, especially considering the fact that you were also rude towards some people that had no bad intentions.
Once again, I wish you a good luck.
Plus adding less than perfect translation software into the mix can lead to misunderstandings between languages.
There's always some entitled a holes ruining things for everyone, this man put in countless hours building a ROM that rivals anything I've seen as far as features go... And people act like he owes them a frigging wishlist. It's his creation, for himself, that he was kind enough to share with us all. True it wasn't a perfect creation(as few ROMs are), but it clearly said BETA... You can install a ROM but not read, apparently. It's a shame, we lost a great dev.

Pretty much
We have different definitions of great dev.
I choose quality over quantity.

Exactly. If people didn't like the ROM they could ignore it. Some devs like suggestions, others have a take it or leave it attitude. It's their ROM, so they have that right -- especially when it's not a branded group ROM like Resurrection Remix or something.

No. But getting to the point of a stable release helps. Rom was heading in a great direction if he wanted to continue the work. Best feature rich original rom ive seen in quite some time. Last few days of the thread was just asking questions. People were losing wifi, bluetooth and other issues. Someone mentioned volume slider being like 1-300 that pissed him off. Volume slider did nothing between 1-250 though.
This is not entitlement or being a ahole. When a dev decides to throw 1 million new features into a device the dev/creator might lose focus on the devs vision. Unless something was brewing before i entered the thread was nothing a seasoned user of xda/forums couldnt handle.
Rom was inconsistent across the board with parts installed that didnt work. Majority of the features didnt work correctly and we knew this rom was beta. But instead of being up front in the op users like myself didnt know what i was getting into. Nothing mentioned in the op about magisk or xposed not working. That you need to enable 20 apps to stop the annoyong popups all over the place.
Gboard stopped working in cettain apps. Which i woupd have mentioned nicely. Putting things q0 layers deep is sonmething also.
Being upfront would avoid a portion of the questions(atleast the users who read). Workinf smarter vs harder could have avoided some of the bs questions. I believe this rom was one of a kind which brings its own challenges.
Hopefully the dev comes back and shares his work again. Believe in being blunt with folks, enough people lying to us daily.
Conatructive critism. I do appreciate the hard work.
While some on here were harsh, he was a tool himself.
Agree with the above. And again, I feel that language barrier played a part in all this, as I have seen in other threads where non English speaking person reading something in translation that sounds derogatory to him tempers flare & it starts going in the toilet. Awaiting my V30, was searching thru the threads to find which I thought would be what I need. His held some promise, but yeah there were a lot of jumping thru hoops activity to get it installed/working etc per what I was reading thru. There was a dev in the Axon7 section who released like 6 different ROMS, all in the same thread , it became a nightmare just trying to keep track of which ROM was which. I was kind of surprised the mods let it go that way.
Simple & direct is bestest

You see, those things make a great dev quit, like just be grateful, the Dev knows those problems and did his best, and all he get was "can you please fix [something] " or people not actually reading the thread properly
It's simple folks. Really. Members who contribute work here don't owe anyone anything. Not updates, fixes, explanations, nothing. This isn't a candy store, and nobody has the right to demand anything from anyone, or criticize anyone for anything. If you don't like someone's work, or it's not up to your standards, then move on to something else, quietly. Or even better, create your own work, anyone can learn. And this site has many resources to help you learn.
On the flip side, people will complain, whine and demand, it can't be avoided. But, we have a report system for anyone over the top or too disrespectful. Or, simply ignore them. Getting upset and lashing out is definitely no way to handle it, and will end up bringing trouble to your door.
This is the internet, without a thick skin, it's a harsh place to be.
Developers do this for free and for fun, and no one has the right to complain about anything. And, if it's not fun anymore, I suggest another hobby. Life's too short to spend time on something that's lost its charm for you.
And so, thread closed. Don't need a thread to debate any of the above. Anyone here could start developing, instead of waiting for others to do it. So let's move on. :good:
