I thought the z2 force was supposed to have mediocre battery life? - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

All the reviews before I bought this thing for $375 from T-Mobile claimed the battery life was just OK. Based off my usage on nougat and now Oreo, I have never seen any of my devices have this good of battery life. On nougat I was getting about 6-7 hours of so and on Oreo I'm getting 7+ hours of sot.

Same here, that was my biggest surprise with this phone. I've been getting at least a full 24hrs of battery life with 7hrs of screen on time. It blows every other phone I've owned out of the water.

Its on par/little bit better with the original Z force I think, with a much smaller battery.
835 + nougat are pretty damn good on battery. Easily gets through a day

Oreo is even better

Nothing mediocre about the battery life it is the best of any phone I have ever had, and the recharge speed is ridiculous. I have always been a battery hog that was my main reason for buying this phone.

Same here... 6/7 hr SOT on Nougat with a LOT of apps installed...

Yes, good battery

Forgot estimated usage stats

I was having great battery life. I updated a bunch of apps the other day and now I have constant batter drain. Even over night the battery meter has a linear decrease where before it would be pretty flatlined.
How do I go about figuring out what is causing this? I currently do not have root.

Well this says otherwise. I read a few reviews that the s8 plus with it's 3300 battery only lasted a couple of mins longer. I'll gladly take that trade off for the super slim design and light weight of this device. And that damn turbo charger is the best charger of all time.

Absolutely loving this device, battery included. The great thing to me is, I can always ADD battery with my Moto mod, but I haven't needed it yet ?. Thin and light device with flexibility if you absolutely need it.
Heavy business user here.

Yeah same for me here. I did the homework before I bought this phone about a month ago. I was expecting a mediocre battery life and it turns out to be the opposite. My battery life can last all day easily with a bunch of apps installed and can achieve 7+ SOT withing one to two days of usage. It blows my mind away with this tiny 2700mah battery. For people who have short battery life, look at my post in the screen on time thread. Some certain settings can drain battery easily.

Droid Life review says M8 battery life not good ?

DroidLife; HTC One (M8) Review

Battery life sucks on the M8 ?
HTC claims that the new One (M8) could see upwards of 40% better battery life over last year’s M7, but I’m not I’m buying it. I saw average battery life in my testing on the 2,600mAh battery that wasn’t necessarily greatly improved over last year’s One. My testing typically includes multiple days in a row of nothing but 4G LTE, followed by a few with WiFi mixed in. On 4G LTE-only days, my phone was almost always begging for a charger after 10-12 hours of use and around 3 hours of screen-on time.
Per this review they say battery life is average at best, and not that good, only getting 3h On Screen time, and overall just like 10h - 12h of total battery life on the phone, and with WiFi on they get 14 hours total battery life.
I thought all the real world reviews of people, and other sites were raving about the battery life on this new One M8 ? getting like 5h to 6h On Screen time ?
That review was either based on bad 4g reception, or the reviewer was flat out lying. Also , what is "multiple days in a row"? That's not very scientific. Very bad reviewer in my book
I get very good o2 4g reception, but mostly use WiFi or no data. I have 30 percentage charge left when I go to bed and I get about 4.5 hours screen on.
Can't imagine why anyone would want 4g on all day long but to each their own. Personally I only use 3g on the go unless I really need super speed.
AnandTech's device reviews are the only ones that matter and they saw upwards of 70% improvement in battery life.
For me, the M8 battery is lasting at least twice as long as the M7. First phone I've had in a long time that can last in excess of 48 hours with my normal usage
Right now my battery stats say 1 day, 17hrs: 4h 28m screen on. The battery is currently at 48%
After reading more about that DroidLife, they seem very pro Samsung #1, and then Nexus devices #2, and anything else just sucks. Also one of the reviewers is known to be an HTC hater, per the comment section of regulars on that site.
Clearly they haven't used the M8 everyone I know is getting 4-5+ hours screen time.
The reviewer is flat out lying and a tool. Every other review says it's good and we all know it's good from owning and using one.

This was after my 3rd full charge/discharge cycle. 6 days on just reg power saver and light use.
It's all subjective... I get some 3 to 3.5 hours screen on time with auto brightness. I also have lots of apps background syncing and waking up the phone constantly. So it all depends on how you set up your phone, number of apps, usage criteria. So good battery life for one person may not be the same to other.
So no point to argue on battery life good or bad.

Good point, but for me 3h to 3.5h On Screen time would be extremely disappointing. I use my phone a ton during the workday, and realize I need at least 5h On screen time minimum, perfect for me is more like 6h On Screen time. I need a phone to last a full solid day, from like 6:00am to 10:00pm.
Coming from the Nexus 5 my battery life has been stellar in comparison to what it was. I'm very happy so far.

Lol, whoever wrote that review is taking out their ringpiece. I've had my m7 for 8 months and now my m8 for 2 weeks and the battery life is tons better.I don't have to carry a battery bank in my pocket anymore. When I take my phone of charge and stick it in my pocket it will stay on 100% for least 2 hours if I don't use it.my m7 would drop down to 94% in that time. Don't listen to stupid reviews like that. He is probably an Apple lover who is gutted that his once awesome device is now being overshadowed by an android phone AGAIN.
Depends on how you use the device. Anandtech and other sites show heavy use in weak signal areas can drain any device.

how much more battery are you getting? I'm not the N5 right now and debating on getting the M8.

I'm rocking both the n5 and m8 right now, and this is totally a subjective statement without any real numbers, but I find myself plugging in the n5 a lot more than the m8. I am using the m8 more now because I like it more and the n5 still drains away just sitting there. The m8 is on verizon and the n5 is on tmobile, both have good reception in the area. I feel like I could comfortably use the m8 for 2 days and 1 night until I would want to put it on the charger. I'd estimate that I use about 2-3 hours screen time, 1-2 hours talk time and <1 hour navigation per day. Just my opinion based on real world observations, I'm not really interested in detailed usage tracking or anything like that. It works great and I'm going to keep the m8 and ditch the n5 when the month is up.

I dont know about this reviewer... The battery life to me is incredibly good. I can stream 4g/3g music through spotify while working a full day(around 8-9h playtime), while snapchatting, while texting(regular texts) and while texting in Kik and also using the internet for other things.
Without power saver, and using Greenify to prevent most wakelocks, I'm avergaing 7-9 hours screen on time with 10-15% charge remaining when I go to bed the second night.

so, the battery drain is real...

I thought people were just exaggerating (i still have hope that i'm exaggerating) but man, i just got this phone and holy hell is the battery getting destroyed by "android os"
It won't even last a day with minimal/medium usage (some bluetooth and hotspot use here and there)
I'm coming from a galaxy s3 (which had better battery life).
I've tried installing a 5.1.1 rom but it seems to have no effect.
Has anyone figured out how to 'fix' this? Or can recommend a good rom (or kernel?) to get battery life representative of what i think a 3000 mah battery should be?
Thanks.

Greenify and the .97 OTA seems to provide decent battery life. Getting about 5 hours+ of SOT. Try using a separate app to see which apps are consuming the most battery and disable all the system apps you don't use.
I installed a barebones rom.
What concerns me is i had the same set up on my Galaxy S3 (5.1.1. lollipop with same apps), and the battery life on this zenfone has just been atrocious (leading me to believe 5.1.1 is not the problem, per se).
Am I wrong, did they not optimize this phone properly or something?
I do not have any issue with batery life. Mine last one day easy with medium to heavy use. Just do some charging cycles
I usually get a day with 4 to 6 hours SOT, without doing anything special to save battery
Do 3 drains to 1 % - you may find it stays longer during the lower 20% range so use a youtube film or sommat to blast it down,
then do a factory reset on the latest build.
Did this at the beginning when was only getting 10hrs max ugh !
Now easy 36hrs decent usage
I get a full days use (medium/heavy) with mine, not rooted not custom rom. I usually have about 20% left before it hits the charger. I have noticed small increases in battery life at every firmware update. I can't really complain, came from a Galaxy S5 and battery was about the same if not worst, but S5 had removeable battery. I've used a lot of smartphones and honestly, most will get your through the day and evening but that's about it, yeah, you might have some for the next day but most will through it on the charger by end of the night. My wife has the Iphone 4s and yeah, the battery lasts longer but the screen is almost half the size of mine, screen size makes a big dif.

Time to replace battery?

Hello XDA!
I'm here seeking for some advice.
I'm a happy owner of an LG G4 since November 2015.
Phone has been running great (minus boot-loop, now fixed, last September).
Recently I've been noticing battery drains much faster, with the same usage as usual.
I know battery life is a thing, but having never changed a battery, I'm not sure if that means it's time to replace it yet.
I've been using 'Accubattery' for a few days, and out of 3000mAh, it reports 1980mAh, 66% health. Voltage is pretty much always at 3/4 (above 4mV, the bars turns orange sometimes aswell. Not sure if that means something)
Having never used this app before, I wanted to have a second opinion about this result, before I spend money on a new battery.
Notes:
- Last week I decided to try Resurrection Remix, and battery has been going pretty great. Although I reverted back to stock due the lack of a proper camera app/loss of camera features.
- I've been testing various kernels these days. SimpleGX is the one I've been using for the longest, and the early days (months ago) battery life has been great with it. I still use SimpleGX, but battery life drains by 1% every 10 minutes the screen is on more or less.
- In the past, when I was still using the phone fully stock, it used to get really hot (once it even triggered the 'overheating' error). I heard heat could drastically reduce battery life, so maybe... Overheating hasn't been an issue since I started using SimpleGX.
Thanks in advance.
I think all of us LG G4 owners who had owned it for more than a year has been complaining of short bad battery life just like me, on Accubattery app my battery health is currently at 72% (2152 mah out of 3000 mah), like I get maximum 3.5 hours SOT , So I think it's best time for most people to buy a new battery but for me I'm used to a power bank. In few months time I can't wait to purchase an LG G6! I'm giving more time to the LG G4 because in few months time let's see if my battery health drops below 72% of health. Can't say if the battery used to the heat from the CPU specially while charging? That heat might have degraded the capacity of the battery Happy that the LG G6 has thermal pipes and a much better CPU SD 821 that might not heat the battery in long term use
It could be time. If you ever played games heavily like pokemon go or done anything in general which sustained heat long term, it will slowly kill your battery health. With that being said these batteries do tend to go bad pretty quick especially after around the 1 year mark. I personally opted for the power bear extended battery and and nothing but good to report since then. I highly would recommend going for a new battery. Easy and cheap solution
Not a fan of Pokemon Go, but while using it completely stock, it often went hot for long time.
It stopped only after I started using a custom kernel, but I'd say I spent about 6 months with that already.
Not a fan of those extended battery, mainly due the aesthetic factor, but that's more a personal thing.
I will be ordering a new battery soon (Aukey one). Thanks for the advice

Battery life

Hello
I just received my s20 plus for a week now and the battery life just like my old s7 edge after 4 years .. 3.5 to 4.5 SOT .
Is this normal ?
Same here mate, but this might improve with software updates.... At least I hope so

I hope.. i am afraid that the device has high power consumption design that with time should only get worse.
Give it 4 days to settle down. But yes it does drain faster than s10+. I knew that before pre-ordering but I thought Samsung would have figured something out...
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Guys this is completely normal for the phone to drain this fast, the phone is learning all your usage patterns in order to adjust the battery, use this time to go over the settings and tweak it to your liking. Also in the s10+ forum there is a battery optimisation post, go over there and apply it to your phone. Also maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.
Another thing is if you just restore the phone from a backup, this can bring corrupted settings that might be the culprits do factory reset and install all from zero without a backup.
''maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.''
thats physically IMPOSSIBLE now
I assume that you are using the exynos versions?

I had 7 1/2 sot yesterday SD 120hz
Second day, 120Hz is lovely but damn, I'm at home connected to my WiFi and it's draining like crazy, I'm worried how is it gonna look when I go outdoors to the college and will be using LTE. I'm on Exynos
I'm getting 2 hours of SOT through my day (7 am to 10 pm)
It's been a week that I've been using the Exynos version @ 120Hz RR. Battery life is way worse than S10+ on similar settings, tweaks and usage pattern.
I have charged my phone for the 2nd time and i get +- 5 hours of sot. I use everything on the phone, 120hz etc. The battery is still in the learning pattern phase...getting same battery life as I got on my S10+. I get roughly 24 hours with one charge and 6 hours is included when I sleep...The battery will get better. With my S10+ I got 24-36 hours of battery time with +- 3-5 hours sot...depending on usage...So if I can get the same or a bit better I would be very happy

I'm reading pretty bad about the Exynos Ultra as well in different but reliable sources. It's a pain to have a primary driver that dies mid-day on medium usage, that era of "unacceptable batterylife" on a flagship is believed to be over years back. I remember me behaving in an uncivilized? manner with the ones who tried to defend Exynos S9+ in every online forum when the culprit was the SoC itself to start with..
no wonder they didnt want to enable 120hz at 2K res - it would kill the battery in 1h probably

7.5hrs screen on time? How? First person I've heard that high.
I have the S20+ with the snapdragon processor. I think the battery life is very good, way better than my P4XL. I have 4 hours sot right now and have 60% left. I'm using 120 hz refresh rate. I believe it has gotten better over time, either from "settling" or updates, or maybe my imagination, haven't actually checked but some nights I go to bed after a day of light use and I'm shocked at the battery left. I unplug at 6am and at 10pm I've seen 80% battery left. That's minimal use like I said, not a typical day.
I think the battery life is quite alright, on par with my second phone (OnePlus 7 pro)
Exynos/12gb ram/120hz: stranded on 12%, so it would be around 7.5hours of SOT in full day.
Note: got the phone 3 days ago, it's still settling.View attachment 4977585

I have the snapdragon version and the battery on this thing is a BEAST!
Going on 34 hours off the charger and 7 hours of sot. I have done nothing to conserve battery. Loads of apps/accounts syncing. I am super impressed. Way better then my s10+ was.
120hz on, about mid-brightness, I'm lasting all day use with my personal usage habits. Battery life is as good if not a bit better than on my Note 10+. Snapdragon here on T-Mobile. Mostly WiFi. But it's only been about a week of use.
Can't complain at all.
ETA: Also BT always on using with my Frontier watch and Galaxy Buds on occasion.

best ROM for battery life?

I've been using this phone for about 4-5 years now and it started off great, but as expected battery life has deteriorated drastically. Been rocking project X for a while now and although it looks really nice, I've been feeling like battery life is A LOT worse than stock rom's. Does anyone have a good rom to share? Doesn't have to be the latest version of android, for now I just want to pass the day without having to charge it like twice/thrice.
-ps I'm kinda broke to afford a new device, so I gotta squeeze as much as I can from this sucker
A new battery costs 10$ on Aliexpress.
I recommend Liquid Remix on android 9 with Extended kernel EAS oldcam. It is very fluid and battery friendly. In the morning I get the same battery level I've had at midnight before bed. In total I get 10-13 hours screen on time with a 90% battery health and no 3D gaming.
