what's the sensor of principa camera - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I read everywhere that the phablet has a 12 MP primary sensor with f/2.2 lens and a secondary 5 MP with f/2.0 aperture for background blurring.
But what brand and model is it?
Could it be compatible to the pixel camera software as is that of the note 4?
thanks.

12MP Camera from Sony sensor
5MP camera from Samsung sensor
20MP front camera from Sony sensor

sensors dont that much when it comes to image quality in phone cameras. Its the software optimization that is more important. You could make the note 5 pro camera much better if say google developed the camera software for it like the pixel. Just the spec or sensor vendor does not indicate image quality,

I agree. in fact I was looking for information about the camera model to do targeted searches such as "camera model + pixel camera".
since someone has succeeded in modifying the camera driver of the note 4, I hope they succeed even for the 5 camera
EDIT: however, it would seem that the pixel camera driver are more related to the type of CPU rather than to the camera.

to be precise they would seem:
rear: Sony IMX486 - 12 mpx - f/2.2 - pixel 1.25 µm + Samsung – 5 mpx – f/2.0 – pixel 1.12 µm
front: Sony IMX376 – 20 mpx – f/2.2

Low Resolution in Front Camera Issue

So i think everyone of you have come across this annoyance that third party cameras on Redmi Note 5 Pro (Note 5 China) cannot use the full 20mp resolution in front camera. Only 5mp resolution is utilised.
So can anyone point out what exactly is the reason for that and is there any fix possible for the issue, as this is a major reason for me to not flash custom roms as even gcam doesn't use full resolution of front camera.
Replies appreciated.
I tried the Nokia camera port and it works. It Utilizes full 20 mp front sensor.

yeah i have tried nokia cam too, it utilities full 20mp front. But the quality is nowhere close to google camera and that's why i want the gcam to utilize full 20mp front.

Gcam on our device (why it's so poor)

I was wondering why the development of gcam is so poor on our device? No gcam provides good results
Even more so, installing stable gcam by arnova and mhappymam patch provide really .. uh mediocre results on the front camera
Is the front camera the reason behind this? Because it's Omnivision? Although mi a1 has omnivision as as well and the front camera l, of only 5 megapixels takes superb shots!
How is this possible?
I'm talking about the Global version, by the way
Mi A1 front camera is Samsung S5K5E8 while RN5 is Omnivision OV13855.

32 MP GCam ?

Does anyone have by any chance found a way to produce 32 MP shots using GCam ? I can't Invision the amount of details that would appear in the picture ,I searched everywhere and I am desperate for such mode ,even if the picture is just interpoalted
Thanks in advance ,have a nice day ?
Everybody Needs GCam For A70.
Everyone who have A70, needs GCam with proper cameras.
Rear : 32MP
Front: 32MP
Somebody says that samsung and other phones like Xiaomi, Oneplus, Realme etc. are using 4x technology. Means rendering image at 4x.
Redmi 7 Note Pro has 48 MP but it actually has 12MP camera means 4x12= 48MP.
Same case in other phones. Like realme 3 pro has 16MP camera but click 64mp ultra pic too.
Listen, If we are thinking like this 4x technology. Then Gcam shows rear camera = 8MP means 4x8=32MP. Means it's true.
But But But... In case of front camera why it shows 5.1 MP? means 5.1X4 =20.4 MP ? Strange!!!!!!!!
If 4x is used then why front camera shows 5.1 MP even it's also 32MP.
I am very sad because there is no developer, who shows interest in custom ROMS, Mods, GCam, TWRP etc. for Samsung A70.
I will wait for some days and then try to sale my A70.
Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken the camera has 4x8MP sensors and the gcam can only see one of them , the front camera is another issue and it mainly has to do with the way gcam is made. If anyone knows better please inform us.
8MP on the front, 5MP depth sensor, 8MP ultrawide and 32MP regular on the back. The 32MP sensor is a Samsung ISOCELL sensor that uses 2x2 pixel binning (basically 4 cells = 1 pixel) to produce a binned 8MP image.
Samsung's 12MP mode is curious, it's not really needed. Gcam produces better images at 8MP than Samsung's own camera software does at 12MP. Samsung's app is garbage, basically.
Samaung dont make all their camera modes available in public APIs and until that changes gcam will likely never fully support any Samsung phone.

Enabling 32 MP mode

So ,I was skeptical of posting this ,but maybe it can be a spark for new development
At first ,I believed that perhaps the camera sensor in the A70 is just 8 MP and some marketing jargon made it appear 32 MP
Idk if this app is true or not but it's actually identifying the sensor as a proper GD1 Samsung sensor with resolution of 32 MP
Yet ,the software is only reading 8 MP from this sensor ,which may mean that there is probably an issue with software rather than hardware
I am no expert ,but I thought this might help us to perhaps unlock our device's full potential
the came api responds to the apps (gcam included) that the camera has only 8mpx
is the api
there are devices where peolple with root and twrp can change this
but it is not working on A70
It's a 32mp sensor, we've always known this. 32mp IS available but only using Samsung's own api, which is only available (so far) in Samsung's camera app. You can verify that yourself by taking a photo in 3:4H mode. Look at the details and the res will be 6528x4896 - 31.9 million pixels. So it's real and it's there. I also don't understand why people are chasing this mode when it's been shown that it's no better than the usual 12mp mode. Would what be nice though is having access to 12mp through the Google camera api, this would allow 12mp in gcam for example, instead.of the 8mp we are currently stuck with. Not.that the photos are bad in gcam but I believe theres a bit more detail to be resolved if we had the full 12mp.
Yes, pics taken with the GCam are good. The pic and resolution quality is acceptable and a level above the Samsung app even in 3:4H mode. But the quality is still a level beneath my Iphone7, in my testing.
Still hoping to see a high MP Gcam or significant software updates to the Samsung camera app.
Thanks to everyone for the reply
It's just annoying as hell to have low megapixel count ,because I usually love cropping into my photos and it really limits me , specifically because of a lack of telephoto lens as I love architecture photography
Another worthy note : I tested over 10 apps that check the hardware info of the phone
None of them could manage to identify the ultrawide cam nor the depth sensor ,all of them only identify the front and back camera...which probably mean there is sort of hope that maybe the Camera2API provided by Samsung is not really fully unlocked and it strict the readings of the entire camera module
If a developer could clarify why the ultrawide isn't identified I would be super happy
Maybe its an advantage of not owning a flagship phone before coz I have nothing to campare the cam of A70, but for me the 32mp mode is really good specially when using outside with good natural light, the zoom image is very impressive imo. Yes the gcam takes better images overall but I really love using the 32mp mode from the stock camera

Question Camera sensor replace!?!?!?!?

If i buy a diferent sensor can i replace it and will it funcion normaly? Or would need some custom firmware?
Buying a different camera sensor will not work. First of all the contacts to attach it to the daughter board will be different. Secondly it probably won't fit in the cameras space and so would rattle. Thirdly the firmware wouldn't understand the output of the sensor. Sorry
if only android worked as proper os with modular drivers or should i say it's Qualcomm fault.... as far as my testing i think sensors on poco f3 are not bad at all it's the software that counts these days, if you can tweak gcam you can get good results in color reproduction and dynamic range and video quality as well, keep in mind that all phone camera systems have limitations and the best bet is getting a cheap used compact camera like lumix lx10 or sony rx100 or canon g7x.

Someone tried a IMX686 (or IMX 682) from a K40 Pro in the standard K40(actually vice versa but the point still stands) and it will not work. If you can read chinese then watch this video. Basically the camera module can fit in the connector and can fit in the frame but it will not work both in standard and 48MP mode as the driver is missing.

Nah the sensor is objectively awful, especially in low light conditions. My 3 year old MI 8 has a better sensor.

For me the sensor is like lightyears ahead of my old phone, that thing can't even take a low light photo without blur in 80% of scenarios. Probably because my standards are set so low that this sensor is amazing to me.

imx363 is a very good sensor even if it's lacking pixel banding but what make the difference is the lenses, tbh they used a higher quality one in mi8 compared to f3, also the lack of ois on f3 affects low light quality
