Interesting.
As part of the Enterprise Recommended program, these devices will receive timely security updates, guaranteed every 90 days. With committed updates, customers can rest assured that their devices are capable for day-to-day work regarding sensitive information.

Who sets the "timely security updates" schedule for this program?
Just curious. Is it the manufacturer or Google/Android?
I ask because when I had the Samsung Note 4, it was also approved for corporate use and received security updates every month. Now, coming from that type of schedule, 90 days seems a little "lazy," for the lack of a better word.
Edit: Actually, the Note 4 was GOVERNMENT AGENCY approved if I recall correctly. Maybe that's why the updates were so frequent?
I'm not trying to bad mouth LG here. I'm just curious to know if Samsung went over the top with the Note 4 or what. And to know who sets the rules: Google/Android or the manufacturer?

Since it's "Android Enterprise" Google probably set a minimum time.

LG Electronics USA, Inc. today announced that the LG V30 and LG G6 premium smartphones available in the United States will earn "Android Enterprise Recommended" approval in a new Google-led program, following an upgrade to Android 8.1.1
1 Android Enterprise Recommended approval is contingent on imminent update of devices to Android 8.1.

So, I gather once you become a gate partner, then qualifying phones will get timely updates? The rest just get the ole heave ho?

You mean like LG just giving the V20 the ole heave hoe?

I think the v20 has reached its end of life. Might get some security patches officially but mostly support coming from great devs here on xda.

So what does LG Gate mean to the average consumer? Seems like its only for corporate devices bought by companies. Not the v30 i bought at the T-Mobile Store down the street..

I want to get OnePlus 3 but I am a bit hesitant since I haven't heard of them before but I have noticed that on their website you can select a region and there a quite a few of them so I assume they have their other divisions also in those countries since delivery is fast too ?

Don't say "fast delivery" to one who ordered on 15th of September and will get the phone on 3rd of October (estimated date).
Well its android.. If u want an 'total' 'secure' phone go with Apple... Nothing wrong with the company
Got my phone in 4 days. I ordered it the moment that it was in stock again..
OnePlus die hard fan here.

Apple isn't the only secure option at all. Google Nexus phones have been equally secure and received consistent security updates
Even blackberry is beginning to offer this, but that remains to be seen.

What? Simply because Apple encrypted devices some years before Android doing the same?
OnePlus is encrypted by default, like Nexus devices.
Nothing to blame, Android is trustable and untrustable like Apple at all.
Backdoors and security issues are existing everywhere, even for spying reasons.
The only variant is the collaborative Google policy with local authorities, at the opposite of Apple (surely for a marketing reason, because they aren't so nice people).
My suggestion:
1) If you are a normal user: consider to require pattern/password at bootup, making device unaccessible even in recovery mode;
2) If you are a terrorist: go with proxy, Tor relaying, stay away from Google account, use a restrictive firewall and so on [emoji6]

Given how much modding goes on with the OP3 I assume somebody on the XDA-Developers forum would have a "backdoor" by now if one existed?

In my opinion it is very trustworthy.
I ordered my device June 21st, and received it 2 days later. I have never used a smartphone like this one before, it's very fast, customizable and has a good battery life.
Untill now I have yet to discover any bugs.
Also the warranty is very good.

Locked down doesn't equal security. I'd argue the open source nature of Android makes it more secure, as just about anybody can audit it.
Don't trust anyone in this business. Neither Google, nor Apple, nor Microsoft, nor Samsung, nor Oneplus nor anyone else.
Follow the simplest rules of privacy and security, use security software such as Orbot, AFWall+, Xprivacy, don't click on everything in the net. The rest is hope.

□ Improvement to OS upgraded in December □ Improvement of
basic performance and convenience by software optimization
■ Managing director of LG Electronics Korea Mobile Sangyu Gyeonggi," We do not miss each customer's opinion and enjoy the best performance We will continue to provide services to help you "
LG Electronics' new operating system (OS) to be applied to LG V30, a strategic smartphone for strategic use, will also be heard from customers. We plan to continue to enjoy the best performance and convenience after the new OS upgrade.
On February 2, LG Electronics will launch the LG OS Preview program, which allows users of LG V30 users to preview the operating system of Android 8.0 ('Oreo'). If you are a LG V30 user, you can join anyone regardless of carrier.
How to apply is simple. Users can run 'Quick Help' app on LG V30 and click 'LG OS Preview' banner. If you receive a "Software Update" notification message that is sent out during this month and execute it, the wireless OS upgrade will proceed.
Users can exchange information by posting various opinions in 'Forum', a free forum in the 'Quick Help' app. If you leave the need to improve using the Oreo, LG Electronics plans to reflect it in the official OS upgrade starting in December.
Google 's latest OS' Oreo 'speed, battery and basic performance, as well as enhance the screen configuration, graphics and a variety of convenience features will be added. Optimize the software to drive and boot faster, and when not using the app, minimize power consumption and battery consumption. It also includes convenience features such as allowing users to watch videos and continue viewing images on a small screen even when running other apps, or to support a wider variety of sound devices such as high-quality wireless headsets.
Lee Sang-gyu, managing director of Korea Mobile Group at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to provide services that allow us to fully enjoy the best performance without failing to reflect on customer feedback."
Just saw this on Droid Life. Apparently it's only for Korea users but hopefully they open it up to more countries soon. I want in.

That wasn't an "update". V20 launched with Nougat last year. Which is why everyone was disappointed the V30 didn't launch with Oreo.
Because with the V10 (which was still the flagship V phone when Google released Nougat in August 2016), it took 11 months for the official carrier unlocked version to get 2016 Nougat. July 2017. (Yes the same Nougat the V20 had installed at launch!) V20 was launched in 4th quarter 2016 and had Nougat already installed. Bootloader unlocked V10 then got it July 2017[/].
And it took until April 2016 for the V10 to get the 2015 Marshmallow. It launched with Lollipop in 4th quarter 2015.
Let's hope the V30 Oreo update is faster?
is there anway to side load it or do we just have to wait for it to launch in US
Hope someone gets screenshots soon enough, waiting for some revamped UI hopefully..

Did anyone mention this about "how" to register ?
From XDA newz yesterday : https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-v30-android-oreo-preview-south-korea/
From today, LG V30 owners in South Korea will be able to get a hold of the upcoming Android Oreo update by registering via the Quick Help application. LG is launching a preview program for the V30’s Oreo update, which is essentially a public beta ahead of the official upgrade which is slated for next month.

I tried by using my old phone with Google translate and managed to go through all of it. Though it says it's not available in my country. (have the v300)
I tried using a VPN service through Korea as well. But same result. Think it's connected to the LG account, but I can't seem to create one that doesn't automatically say Sweden in the profile.
good to know they're beta testing OREO...shame it isn't open to all...double shame carrier phones are locked down.

V20 was the first to launch with 7.0. Google launched the Pixel line with 7.1 around the same time.
I'm glad that we got a very stable 7.1.2 build on the V30. The V20 was so damn glitchy and so many things just didn't work smoothly.
I can't read Korean, but I believe this is how you participate...

Hi dears,
I tried also via VPN... it is the registration page on my V30, maybe we have to make a Korean email address...
Dears, the problem is the email address... get one from daum.net
I've looked everywhere for the quick help app or access to it and searched all over Google. I already got a Korean email address. How do I access quick help?

No update yet. This phone seriously is 4 months behind starting tomorrow on security patches. My S7 is more up to date than this phone.
Received the 10d update this morning on my V30+. 153mb states it's a security update to make phone safer, only thing noticed so far is on January security patch.

No one seems excited about this. That means the LG V30 (T-Mobile) is on the newest Security patch version of any non-Google phone at the time this was released.
LG might only do every 2-3 security patches, but when they do, they update to the newest. I'd say LG and T-Mobile are doing pretty good with updates for the V30. A good sign for future updates of this phone!
Also when the October security patch applied it seemed to decrease my battery a little bit. Hopefully this brings it back.
Has antirollback been updated/changed in this update?

TMobile has always pushed security updates for LG devices every 2-4 months.
Was like that on G4, seems more frequent for G6, etc...
LG makes the initial firmware. TMO Devs are actually responsible for pushing security patches. At least thats what LG says.

Pathetic actually.
There is really no excuse for any carrier to interfere with google security updates. Google provides them for free, and to stand back for 4 months [ in the case of the lgv30] while threats gain traction with hackers.
Google needs to demand that the carriers stop interfering with users getting these updates.

You're half right.
Google gives them for free to source code. The OEM needs to push to the carriers & carriers have to push them to individual devices.
If the carriers didn't, "interfere," as you say, there wouldn't be updates at all.
Google can only push updates directly to devices that they control (ie: nexus, pixel, & Android One, or devices that support project treble.)
Besides that, skinned OEM versions of Android aren't the same as AOSP devices.
There's so much code that needs to be patched and Google doesn't control OEM code, only base Android source code.
And until OEMs fully adopt/support project treble, that's just the way it is..
Also, as far as the V30. It's been updated as much as the rest from T-Mobile. Besides LG is actively working to push Oreo out. Once they do that things will get better. After the V30S is released we should get Oreo and more frequent updates. Nougat isn't going to stay much longer.
Honestly I'm more worried about how they won't let us use fastboot or root.

LG V30 with Android PIE 9.0

The LG V30 US998*running*Android Pie 9.0 was spotted in the GeekBench database.

Very very very very doubtful its official LG, especially because its the US variant, first all korean variants will get the update, and then, some time later the others will
We're supposed to get Pie in Q1 of 2019 according to LG.
But I wouldn't hold your breath. They certainly won't release it before that time.

Where does LG say that? They never give a timeline or date prediction that I've seen. Don't trust various sites stating when they predict LG will give Pie.
Also, first ones to get PIE we'll be Korean carrier variants -- yeah, possibly Q1 2019... But everyone else will be months after that. Will be at least Q2 for rest of us, just like Oreo earlier this year.

Android 9 Pie started rolling out to the Korean G7 today, but other models will have to wait longer. LG's schedule says the V35 will also get Pie in Q1 2019 (which ends March 31), but the V40, V30, and V30S will have to wait until Q2 2019 (ends on June 30). The G6, V20, and Q8 are expected to receive Pie in Q3, and the Q9 and X5 will get it by the end of the year.

G7, V35 and V40 are soooooo similiar, hardware wise, software probably isnt that different either...

Marketing? Why rush to update the "old" models when you are struggling to sell the new ones.

It's about time LG should realise that just stamping out new phones with 10 different variants isn't gonna do anything for them. With the G8 coming out soon I doubt the V30 will even be getting any security updates after the pie rollout. No cutting edge hardware is any good if it's running 2 year old software. It's one thing to treat mid tier or budget devices this way but even to your flagships, that's like axing your own foot. With the 90day security update criteria to be in the so called 'android enterprise recommended' program, LG is just doing the bare minimum so that they don't lose a marketing opportunity.

Yeah but V30 was launched in sept'17 and completes it's 3 years sept'20. Since LG takes about an year to rollout the updates(pie released aug'18 and it'll positively be Q3'19 before all V30 variants receive the update) even if the next android version releases in Q3 this year I highly doubt we'll get another software upgrade release within that 3 year time frame.

Yes, Pie will be the last letter upgrade and will start arriving Q2 2019 and continue into Q3 2019. Security updates will continue for at least a full year after that.

Security updates will continue to Q3 2020 and possibly Q2 2021 -- depending on definition of the starting line. Oreo was needed to even be in the Enterprise Recommended program, and we didn't get Oreo and the 90-day updates until Q2 2018.

We will get two major Android updates. We already got Oreo and will get Pie.

The V30 will be the first and last LG smart phone I will buy. I'll stick to Google or Samsung next go. But no more LG. Lucky to get one major android update.

I'll take this reasonably priced phone I can actually unlock/root before I ever consider a Samsuck again!

LG on Android Q beta program. Is it the G7?

Watched Google's 2019 IO and I saw that LG is on the beta list for Q. Is G7 supported?

Nevermind... I don't think that the sound functions like dtx and quad dac works with vanilla beta... ?
They are too dumb for that, and pretty sure it will be release on korean version only again, worst phone of my life

Indeed Korea get priority if it comes to beta or anything else. Don't believe a thing they would treat the G8 any other way like G7 to make you upgrade. Some of the G7 got a few days ago security update April instead of pie.

Yea, only Korean model. Anyone starting to feel that lg's koreans are some sort of racists?

I don't think they are racists. But probably 95% of their sales are in Korea. The US and Europe is not that important for them. They are acting just like Apple and Google did in the beginning when they thought the world only consisted of the US. I remember my first Android phone I had to root just to get Google Play since that was a US feature only. When my xbox got voice control I was thrilled, I knew it was only English, but since I'm a fluent speaker I would not mind. But no, you could only turn on that feature in the US. Amazon Prime? Sorry, not in your country. The list goes on and on.
Companies are in this for the revenue. You don't spend lots of $ to please those 5% of users outside your main market, that's just a fact of capitalism. As a consumer you need to think about why this seemingly great spec phone is cheaper that comparative models from Samsung, Sony and others. They sell some phones to test the market. If it's a success then great, they'll prioritize this market for the next model (G8), if not, the no worries, we did not spend that much money in that market anyway.
My next phone is going to be a "global" contender without a strong tie to a country. Like the One+ or something like that I think.
(The numbers are just grabbed out of my a** and are probably totally wrong, but the principle remains).
It is another stunt by LG for publicity and lure the customers again.. Like last year when they announced new software update centre..
By joining the beta program, they are still not obligated to roll out timely updates on G8 either.. It's it just for beta testing at the end of the day...
