LG on Android Q beta program. Is it the G7? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Watched Google's 2019 IO and I saw that LG is on the beta list for Q. Is G7 supported?

Nevermind... I don't think that the sound functions like dtx and quad dac works with vanilla beta... ?

They are too dumb for that, and pretty sure it will be release on korean version only again, worst phone of my life

Indeed Korea get priority if it comes to beta or anything else. Don't believe a thing they would treat the G8 any other way like G7 to make you upgrade. Some of the G7 got a few days ago security update April instead of pie.

Yea, only Korean model. Anyone starting to feel that lg's koreans are some sort of racists?

I don't think they are racists. But probably 95% of their sales are in Korea. The US and Europe is not that important for them. They are acting just like Apple and Google did in the beginning when they thought the world only consisted of the US. I remember my first Android phone I had to root just to get Google Play since that was a US feature only. When my xbox got voice control I was thrilled, I knew it was only English, but since I'm a fluent speaker I would not mind. But no, you could only turn on that feature in the US. Amazon Prime? Sorry, not in your country. The list goes on and on.
Companies are in this for the revenue. You don't spend lots of $ to please those 5% of users outside your main market, that's just a fact of capitalism. As a consumer you need to think about why this seemingly great spec phone is cheaper that comparative models from Samsung, Sony and others. They sell some phones to test the market. If it's a success then great, they'll prioritize this market for the next model (G8), if not, the no worries, we did not spend that much money in that market anyway.
My next phone is going to be a "global" contender without a strong tie to a country. Like the One+ or something like that I think.
(The numbers are just grabbed out of my a** and are probably totally wrong, but the principle remains).

It is another stunt by LG for publicity and lure the customers again.. Like last year when they announced new software update centre..
By joining the beta program, they are still not obligated to roll out timely updates on G8 either.. It's it just for beta testing at the end of the day...

The ATT version was rumored to have launched a couple of weeks ago (as per the ancient-looking leaked ATT docs)
Hopefully they'll all be out soon.
I don't understand why the companies can't tell us what phones and when they are going to come out.
I actually need this device for my work. I know I could get a touch 1, but with the 2 "rumored" to be out really soon, I figure I should wait. I don't have a problem waiting, but I would like some hard dates from these companies so I can actually plan and know.
Funny thing is, I'm with Tmobile right now, but their 3G is way too limited where I live now. Sprint, Verizon, and ATT are much better with their advertised 3G in my area. I have no probs switching, but who is gonna get it?
If this was just waiting for a toy, I could care less. But it will make my work at least 10 times more efficient with the use of all the features of this device.
Does anyone know a way to get a rock solid answer from these companies?

They get around to it when they get around to it, but there is an actual reason why it seems to take so long.
Although people like us knew about the Touch Pro2 and its design and specs very early on, and even though some Europeans are already using it, the truth is it still flies under the radar for the average consumer. The carriers and manufacturers like this, because they still have stock of the original Touch Pro, and if everyone knew the Touch Pro2's release was imminent, no one would finish buying up the Touch Pro 1s (IMO, there's still a segment that would want the TP1 over the TP2, but I think most carriers disagree with me and that's what really matters on a decision to announce and give solid dates) because they, like you, would wait for the TP2.
This isn't idle speculation on my part, the impulse to conceal the next model is a well-established business practice based on knowledge of the Osborne effect (although the origins may be semi-mythical, the effect does happen under the right circumstances).
Besides this, launching a device successfully is complicated. Announce a date and then have to delay it, then everyone gets pissed and the device/carrier gets a worse rep than if they don't announce but still end up with the same launch date. There's really very little upside to getting precise information out there as early as possible.

Its true that these service providers hide the arrival details of new models. But the fact that frustrates me more is these buggers change names of models - like Rhodium is called by at least 4 other names including Rhodium, MDA Vario V etc. Is it must to create confusion among consumers?
Why can't there be a single name for a product (or 2 names at the most - one Project name - like Rhodium and other Trade Name - like Touch Pro 2)??

[Q] [SALES] US Launch?

Anyone here know if and when the Asus Zenfone 2 will launch in the US? There are mixed forums on the internet, MOST of which list April 2015 as the launch date in a bunch of countries ... 1 of which, is the US. Well, it is April now and I cannot find any official word about whether or not the ZF2 will launch in the US.

That is a nice phone, congrats!
The problem with me is I already bought the phone, but it came with the CN (Chinese) firmware. It's the exact same phone as the TW (Taiwan) firmware, except it has different band configurations ... which is a reason for me not having the 4G I already pay for on T-Mobile's network. I am now in the process of returning this phone and getting a TW version, but I read here on XDA where people were mentioning the Band configurations on different firmware ... ONE of which happened to be "US" firmware. Since the US version isn't out YET (or ever ....), I assumed that since the Band configuration specs for it are posted, then there MUST be a US variant ... THUS the question.
Btw, thanks for taking the time and emailing Asus ... if you did.

Right. I think there will be one, but they're kind of being dumb about it. :/ I really didn't expect an answer, but was hoping maybe they could throw a quarter or month or something my way. Was worth a shot, I guess. Like, if you want to sell a million phones, freaking let us know if it's actually going to come, and a general idea when. You'd think their marketing department would get that.

I totally aggree ... I think that there might be a big problem between them and US authorities (FCC, customs, etc) and even large flagship companies. Any company would DIE for the pleasure of having it so easy that they just release all their products in every region. There are different bands, radio interference, and general telecommunications laws varying from region to region. I assume it's not IMPOSSIBLE for a HUGE company like ASUS to get all of that sorted out, but then again it is all about $$. Their lowest sale point (according to their marketing dept.) was probably selected as the US ... which is why they are releasing it starting from countries where low/mid-range phones are more popular than flagships due to their price.

You're completely right actually, as even way back in the earlier weeks after the Zenfone 2 was announced, I saw such info on the Asus site. Said info was essentially 'fine print' at the very bottom of the page, where they stated that the phone wasn't FCC approved for the US and Canada, along with some other stuff...
I'm not from such regions so I didn't think it'd cause any issues, but with what you mentioned here about such barriers makes perfect sense why there's no official launch event for those countries yet. Once again, can't blame Asus for having such a hard time delivering this beastly device, with such things taking a jab at their profits.

It does suck ... but nothing should stop us!
Order it from eBay, the Taiwanese version is the best version out there, I believe ... in terms of 4G on TMobile, Play Store preinstalled, etc.
I will be getting mine within a week, will keep the threads updated. I am currently holding the 1.8GHz chip of the Chinese version which is only getting 3G, and no Google Apps pre installed. I am having a bit of trouble getting Google Framework/services on it at the moment. It seems impossible so if GearBest decides not to pay return shipping, I will keep it and root it ... that should get me through the door to Google apps.

New LG V30s ThinQ

LG has presented “new“' LG V30s RuinQ in Barcelona: same design, CPU, camera, display and battery, but 6GB RAM, up to 256GB internal storage and new AI software for the camera. Two new colors also.
More details:
https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2018/2/24/17048574/lg-v30s-price-release-date-mwc-2018
https://youtu.be/SkfvKEUZrOI
All the "new" software aspects (AI, etc) will also be rolled out to existing V30/V30+ sometime in the future. LG admits that. It's in several of the articles.
The immediate question that surfaces when you look at the V30S is,*why did this need to exist?*LG gave a media presentation here at MWC where it explained its thinking about AI integration into mobile devices and how that found expression in the company’s new AI Cam, the V30S’ headline novelty.
But here’s the issue: the AI Cam and every other software improvement in the V30S are promised to be delivered as an update to V30 phones. So there’s no hardware reason for new hardware. Unless you were really lusting for a slightly darker gray on the back of your phone.

So the only thing REALLY different is more RAM and the option of 256GB internal storage besides the 128GB storage (already available on the V30+). This new V30ABCD will have 128GB/256GB storage options.
For me, then the only aspect that's different is more RAM.

I'm pissed off
For me this is a joke, in Europe, LG started sale of V30 in December, so presenting new model in February makes my angry for this company. and I will never buy their product.
We still don't have Oreo update and probably, we will not see it before a few weeks after start of sellling ThunQ model.

Take a deep breath. "Presenting"/announcing is not the same as "releasing"/available for sale.
When did LG ANNOUNCE the LG V30? August.
When did LG make the LG V30 available for sale in your area? December.
You probably won't see this until April-May.
Oh, sure they'll release it in South Korea next week. Just like they released the V30 in South Korea in September. But the rest of the world probably won't see it for months. UNLESS this is why the V30 and V30+ has been "out of stock" on B&H Photo? Because LG was producing this phone? If so, then I'm impressed they are actually announcing and releasing a phone pretty close together.

No, they have said that's June.

And even that's debatable whether that's the "announce" date or the "release" (available in store) date.
When it is time for me to use JUMP again with T-Mobile, I might get this device. Only because I like the device but having more RAM would be a benefit. That and I really like that blue color. Unfortunately T-Mobile will probably only get that gray color. Since it'll be December before I get it, hopefully all colors will already be revealed.

I think I'm going to JUMP to another device with my v30 as I'm almost Jump eligible. Haven't decided what yet, maybe. Refurbished v20 or a U11 life since it's rootable.
But as much of a fanboy of LG as I've been, I think the smart move next is OnePlus.. Sad times for carrier branded LG devices..

lol it's amazing to me that anyone gives a **** about "AI" in this form. wow, it can detect the difference between food and faces. i struggle to consider that intelligence. just software doing what it's supposed to.
more ram
that should be form the first
I wonder if the fact that this phone will launch with Oreo (and thus mandatory Treble support) will do anything for us OG V30 owners.
More RAM is a good thing but the rest... The AI stuff being just software is disappointing. I don't really need 256GB internal storage because of the SD card slot. The new colors really don't impress me either. LG's silver model of the V30/V30+ I think is the nicest one they have released so far. It is nice and shiny compared to the toned down look of the platinum.
This refresh I don't think is going to help LG. They might get a few extra sales for those who held out for something with more RAM. If they had gone with an SD845 and added an AI processor, I think the reasons to upgrade would be a lot more compelling. With the S9 and S9+ whoring for attention, the V30s ThinQ is just a fart in the wind that has no punch.

Same here. And they also lied to me through customer service. They changed the requirements for a 70 euro cashback after I ordered the phone. When I contacted them, they said I was still eligible because I ordered before the change.
Then when I received the phone a month later and tried to redeem the cashback they denied everything even though I had proof of everything. Took me 20 emails and I was nearly going to court before they gave in.

that's called optimization. my issue is that they call it AI like it's some great technological feat. this device should detect when to use this "night mode" right out of the box. it's just a piece of software they should have included in the first place, but didn't. i'll be kinda ticked if they don't introduce these features to my device, being that it is ONLY software. i don't want to have to use GCam.

Judy is more in line with what I personally think LG's next release should have been. LG should have focused on that and been announcing that now with a release window of mid-March. Instead, Judy is looking lime a late June or July release, when everyone will be too busy with summer to care until the fall flagships start making headlines with the SD850.
Another not developer friendly device, select variants with unlockable bootloader. lol
LG got some more bad press today when one of their phones burst into flames on an Air Canada flight before it left Toronto for Vancouver. That effectively puts LG on par with the Note 7.

But they couldn't go with the 845 at this point in time -- just like they couldn't go with the 835 last year for the G6. Samsung again has all supply locked up for first weeks.
At least LG is not wasting a "new" phone with "last year's Snapdragon", like they did the G6.
For really new phones with latest processors, the new reality is you have to stand in line behind Samsung. Why Samsung has such a monopoly on the new Snapdragon needs investigation. It was supposed to be for last year only (due to Samsung helping Qualcomm design and manufacture the next-gen 835).
Also, is Qualcomm going to only release ONE new premium chip each year, when in the past they released at least two each year?
LG wisely has pushed back G7 release until they can have adequate supply of 845 chips.
So, LG tricked out a V30 to have something to show at this event. They can't show up empty handed. Samsung and LG are competitive South Korean conglomerates.

Judy IS LG's next "real" release. They just have to delay it until they get supply of SN845 chips. Otherwise they release Judy with 835 and everyone makes fun of them for having "last year's" Snapdragon.

All the so-called "AI" software is coming to ALL LG V30 in a future update. The only thing this new V30ABCD has is new colors, more RAM. And double internal memory option (256GB) in addition to the 128GB the V30+ already has.

LG G7 EU Version will recieve the Pie update ?

Hi
Do you think that the lg g7 will receive the pie update for the eu ?
Thank you
Makes you wonder, feels like the G7 is abandonware now that the G8 is out. Even security patches are absent. But the answer is simple, no more LG, ever.

Crap, Some forum say that the update was supposed to happen by the end of april.
We will see but I hope so.
Do you know some bugless and good pie rom for the LG G7 ?
Some of the branded models in eu got a update with April patch only. So likely no pie on his way. I try to hold out this year and I go back to sony or oneplus. I wanted to last for sure 2 years with this phone but not on this way. Some thing still not even fixed. Now even other flag ship support wide angle camera it's easy to leave lg.

I wanted to last for sure 2 years with this phone but not on this way. Some thing still not even fixed. Now even other flag ship support wide angle camera it's easy to leave lg.

Yes, pretty easy but it's actually a good phone...
I can't believe that lg just give up about an update for a high-end 2018 smartphone

They even move the production to Vietnam to reduce cost. That's how bad lg do. The g8 got tripple camera in Korea and dual in europe. Can't name any other brand who works like lg. Who ever upgrade is not aware of the money you trow away because if you want to get rid of it its lower than half price worth. Good device but what a shame

I hope that will work
Obviously we have poor chance to get this update.
LG Benelux said "we doesn't know when and if a update is on the way for the EU version of lg g7"
?
Since the Kernal sources for Pie for EU versions are already out.. It won't take too long to be rolled out as OTA .. May be this week itself..

Next update should be to the Last May. But what we get whos know. (Last update was in March + 2 months.)

Does sources were published sometime at the end of March, or beginning of April if I'm not mistaken I had them on my computer for awhile now...
I'll never buy an LG smartphone ever again

Why would they write source code just for fun? it will arrive
Official response from LG Spain. They say that the update for the LG G710EM will come in June but they are not 100% because it depends on the software update center in Korea. So the real problem is the LG center update in Korea.
Well at least lg is the second last behind htc to update 9.0 after any other company updated there flagships. What I read about other phones that have software issues like oneplus 7 pro I must say I don't even want to trade this phone because the G7 still great for what it is and reliable to me. LG could be the best in the market if they put some effort in it.

You are from the lucky ones, but of course AT&T locked i suppose.
Many others, myself included, that we use AT&T unlocked and ULM versions, are still waiting for LG to keep its promise, but i am absolutely sure that this will remain a dream.
There is no chance i think, that LG will give us this promised android 10 update, after 1 year since its release.
LG left our V35. We will not get new updates
We need LineageOS and someone who will support our phones.
The V35 is a great piece of hardware. It is sad that LG has abandonned it. Shabby software IMHO explains the dire state of LG's mobile division. The odds are good it will be shuttered, sold, or otherwise entirely different in the near future.
Getting LOS support going would be nice. Much of the foundation is in place with work on the sibling V40 and G7 phones. The prospects for it happening are low. The phone is dated so not attracting developers. To make matters worse, LOS is not a viable path forward for LG owners in USA. Carriers are shutting down 3G and redeploying the spectrum. LG's radio implementation is proprietary. Without reverse engineering or a change of heart by LG, the phones will not have VoLTE capability with LOS roms.
As for me, I keeping an eye on Sony's offerings. To LG ThinQ products I say no ThanQ.

Unfortunately i agree with you..LG abandoned V35 in its fake, except the Korean models.
Its been a few months since i put aside this wonderful device,as a back up.
I moved on with 1+7,as my daily driver, which is a really great device, got android 10 almost 1 year ago,and android 11 is on its way.
As a second device for professional reasons,i recently got a V50,which is a great device too,and even though it's a Sprint version,i use it in Europe where i live.
Immediately updated to android 10 from 9 and is going very strong.
Of course someone could say,why do you choose an LG device from the moment that the company announced its withdrawal from the smartphone industry?
I know the risks of my choice, mainly if something goes wrong and need repair, but till today, all my LG devices served me really well, despite the fact of luck of quick updates,in addition to other companies.

I didn't know that, I don't keep up much with tech news anymore. I get a phone that works for me, do the customizations I care about and forget about it. Anyways, sad to see their shutting down their phones unit without releasing 10 for us. And happy that I followed @cmrntnnr Korean Q guide a while ago.
i was looking to buy a V35 because price related to specs is awesome, but iirc, i could unlock bootloader but there is no custom ROM ?
GSI not supported on this phone ?
Sorry for theses dumbs questions
The phone is awesome hardware and android 9 isn't that bad. It's a trade-off.
I stuffed the Korean v350N android 10 in my US unlocked v35awm. All good and dandy, wifi calling working, 4G working just fine. But my car won't recognize its android auto link anymore. I get a black screen after plugging the phone to the car, even with all paired and stuff. Guess I'll back to android 9, even though the Korean 10 worked fine. But had no majors gains with Android 10, was just a test. Won't feel the downgrade much...
I also installed the Korean 10 ROM, and all is well except my mobile speed test has gone from 150/50 to 33/2 on TELUS in Canada. Any suggestions to fix this?
