Considering how Lenovorola was sending out a Feb patch in the same month to the G5S+, I'm betting on this coming out mid to end of March and rolling out in about twelve days to all regions (based on the Jan update rollout)

Nice. But it would be much nicer if they would roll out Oreo. I was hoping they would do that in combination with the march security patch. But it seems we'll have to wait some more time.

Honestly, I don't see what the big fuss is about Oreo. We have it already by way of custom ROMs, and it's stable enough for daily use at this point. The only issue I've seen is that certain camera functions don't work properly without the proprietary firmware, so if you want to adjust ISO or shutter speed you have to use a stock rom. That's exactly what I'm doing, btw, and I have yet to see anything 8.1 has that makes it functionally Superior to 7.0 and aside from security patches, I'm unlikely to change anything about my rom because Oreo just doesn't "wow" me.

I am of your opinion that there is no big "wow" about Oreo. But it's an update Lenovo/Motorola promised to their users and under these circumstances something one has paid for.
About custom roms: I'm a big fan of custom roms and use them on my other devices. But as there is no Oreo source for the Moto G5+ imo there are still several problems with AOSP or Lineage based roms like users losing volte, IMEI or even mobile data when returning to stock after being on 8.1 custom roms and also the roms I've tested lack of stability and features beside the mentioned camera issues. No daily driver material for me.
That would not happen if the kernel sources of stock Oreo for potter would be available and as we all know this will only happen when our devices will be upgraded. The Moto G5+ stock rom is really good in terms of battery and performance and I'm very satisfied with the rooted 7.0 stock but I won't unroot and flash stock everytime just to get a security patch. Don't get me wrong, security patches are good and important but for me it's not worth the effort against the background that a major update is about to come in foreseeable time.
And that's the point why I'm waiting for Oreo for the Moto G5+. For stable custom roms and a good reason to unroot and reflash my device.

Stable enough although not ideal. There are always a couple hacks and other shenanigans that may not deliver the complete experience. Either missing blobs or proprietary functions that some people need it.
Warranty. I did unlock my bootloader within 3 months. My G5 Plus started to act stupid, the power and volume buttons would get stuck and not press down anymore. This is not my fault. I'm no *insert stereotype here* to handle my phone as if it is some piece of brick.
Result: I bought another one, extra 800BRL.
Also, not everyone has the knowledge to flash ROMs, as easy as it may be. Some people **** up the most simple stuff, such as downloading the right zip for the right device.

Well there is PIP (Picture-in-Picture) there may be a lot of people that would actually love to have this feature.
There is a new interface, some people like looking at something different. Blame them
I think they improved the File Manager.
More precise notification settings. (Notification Channels)
Unknown Source APK settings revamped. (Now you don't need to go back to that APK file because the system won't dismiss everything.) [And you can choose only your file manager in case your browser gets attacked and the attacker finds a way to install APKs from it, security+)

It should "wow" the fact that Motorola promised something as a company and did not deliver.
Would you trust them again? Do you believe they are caring enough about you as customer, or do you think they see you more as money than other OEMs?
I'm out won't due that stuck button problem I had and the delayed updates.
Pls this is not a personal attack

Companies lie. It's a universal constant. LG lied when they said all LG G4 devices after a certain serial number were free of the bootloop solder defect. Lie. They said it wouldn't happen in future devices. Lie. HTC lied about certain phones getting Gorilla Glass... They all lie. Motorola/Lenovo didn't give an exact date, they just said it would happen for a specific list of devices. They've reiterated the list, and then started a rollout in AUS/NZ for the X4 which is on that list, so now they can say they kept their promise because they started the rollout on one of the listed devices. They're going to say the delays are because they can't, logistically, rollout to all of them simultaneously. They've still come closer to keeping the promise than any other OEM, but they're all liars about something.
And I never take anything as a personal attack unless someone says something personal about *me* in an insulting way, so we're good. You're just sharing your opinion, same as I did. There's no harm in that.

An official Oreo release helps with custom Oreo ROM stabliity.
Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 is stable enough for daily use. I've been running it the past week weeks without GAPPs just fine.

You are OT. We are talking about March security update not about how pretty is the oreo UI.
Afte rall you can choose to not update to oreo, use a lineage of Nougat. Many choices for android users, you have nothing to worry about.

I've only got the January security patch on my G5 Plus last Wednesday. You guys are already getting the March patch?

Current security patch?

Hi,
New here and loving my 8 Pro
I was wondering what Android security patch do you guys/girls currently have? Mine (EU version) is 5th of April, anyone got a newer one?
The April security patch is still being deployed. My phone got it less than 2 weeks ago. I think that Google has a quarterly cycle so I don't think there is anything more recent than the April level (but I might be wrong)... in any case I don't expect Huawei to roll out another SW update yet while the current rollout isn't finished.

Uhmm no. Security patches have nothing to do with the UI. They are just "patches". Once Google uploads a new one, they can just patch the framework and necessary stuff, then roll it out with a small OTA.

if it was that easy, why would brands take such a risk of getting a bad reputation for not providing security patches?

not really true. recall reading an article that briefly explained the process, even security patch takes time for manufacturers to update -- need to go thru chipset manufacturer, and then to phone manufacturer and carriers... what i understand, not that much difference from the regular updates.
which is why Google is trying to make things easier in Nougat.

Oct 17 security update has new camera app too

There was a new security update for the Verizon version of the Moto E4 this week. It may have been released across the whole Moto E4 product line.
Besides securing the phone from the Blueborne Bluetooth weakness, the update also updated the camera app.
I was pleasantly surprised with both.
Does anyone know if the camera is performing any better in low light? The camera has been one of the few big weaknesses of this great cheap phone.
My Boost Mobile Moto E4 has received a whopping ZERO updates. It's still sitting on the May security patch... Hopefully we actually receive the update at some point.

Waiting and hoping... The story of Android.
The kicker, I have a LG Stylo 2, that was updated to the September security patch a couple of weeks ago, in fact LG has supported that phone consistently throughout the years. Sad to see Motorola, who builds basically a AOSP phone, unable to provide updates in any sort of consistent manner. I like Android, but that's way I switched over to iPhone... Timely Support.

I can't afford to spend large amounts of money every couple of years to play catch up.

Q&A about Oreo Beta

Before we begin: NO, I WILL NOT PROVIDE A ZIP HERE.
OK, now when thats out of the way, lets Start with the most asked questions about Stock oreo for Moto G5.
1: Q: "Is the Beta out yet?"
A: Not yet, but very soon, as the Moto G5 MFN requests have Been accepted.
2: Q: "Can you provide the OTA ZIP?'
A: No, because
1:Its illeagel
2: Its made for a specific IMEI
3: It may damages your device.
3: Q: "How do we find out if Oreo Beta out? Using OTA?"
A: You cant find out if your Device's Bootloader is unlocked and if you didnt join MFN using this link:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-...or-the-Motorola-Feedback-Network/td-p/3064626
Then, when the day comes, you get Oreo Beta if you are on Stock and have Bootloader unlocked at that momement.
4: Q: "I dont care about illeagel stuff how do i get the ZIP extracted?"
A: You cant!
Because you only recieve the update if youre Bootloader locked. Thus you cant access /cache. Unlocking the Bootloader after you downloaded the Update erases Cache and Userdata (as we all know)
5: Q: "So... Will Oreo ever come out?"
A: Of course it does! Just give motorola time!
I will edit this thread when More questions get asked.
You can disguss and ask questions here, but look at your grammar and think twice before asking something.
Thanks, P8tgames :good:
Nice, can't wait to see news about the beta for our device

I suppose there might be a way if someone runs a traffic detector on his/her network and grabs the OTA link...

No oreo till august/september

There isn't any official announcement but. Seeing the pattern of providing update and the maintenance release notes for June patch. no one can expect Oreo till August/September as. It would take July to get updated security patch on every retail channel after which they will release another release which MAY be oreo. Which would actually take another month for full implementation.

Cause It's in the news section and it's a news Sir.
As you can explicate the news as anything which is relevant to certain group or community and affect a large no of person is news.
Why are you still expecting after all this time!? They are not interested in giving Updates. Just Install any Custom Rom and Move on, because the discussion on this topic looks trash now!
Motorola os offcially releasong when the see the overall sales of G6 family has already satisfy / met expectations....or....nothing at all and theres no more options to release oreo...also..expect oreo release when Android P comes to everybody....im moving from Motonovo and going forward to Xiaomi or Huawei or Google Pixel or even back to HTC
Don't go to Huawei

I get your frustration with Motorola, but Huawei is much worse. They put out a public statement about major upgrades and patching and then did neither. Customer support was horrible.
Moto may suck, but Huawei sucks much more.
My 2 cents....

True. And this is nothing compared to Samsung.
S7 Oreo update: Buggy. Stopped. Two times.
S8 Oreo update: Buggy.
A3 Oreo update: Bootlooping.
Hell, I would never buy a Sammy.
Better a late and stable update than a quick and buggy one.

This was days ago. Guys, calm down! About 20 threads in the news and q&a section about Oreo.
I had do unbookmark these threads because every day someone opens another thread with NO information and I get pinged. Please start opening theads when something really happens. I would like to receive Oreo too but these "news" doesn't help anyone. Nothing against this OP, it's the mass that is annoying.

I really want to, but those camera bugs on Oreo custom roms annoys me, so I'm using stock rom again and one reason that I bought this phone months ago is because Motorola said that it was going to update to Oreo, which is frustrating to not seeing it yet.
Oreo will happen.
It's just a matter of when?
We're just lower down the priority list than newer phones (like any other manufacturer).
We should hopefully be next after Moto G5S, so watch for when that starts rowling out.

what happened with OnePlus ?

I don't know what is OnePlus doing.. I'm using OnePlus 7t still running on November security patch
Previously I used OnePlus 6.in that time op6 gets every month security patches and updates without any delay..I'm so happy with OnePlus software updates and security patches.. that's why i upgrade my phone to 7t..now everything upside down no regular updates or security patches..(it's not a OnePlus issue but i have to say custom rom development's and community are not active for this device) I expected so much from OnePlus..when i upgraded.. sadly I'm disappointed
If guy's know anything about this updates delays please comment..
Sorry..if any grammar mistakes.. thank you

You should understand that the Coronavirus incident affected all of the development, from any China company.

Yes, I'm super disappointed too.
Yet, oneplus is doing bimonthly updates, and they've been clear about this.
That means update every two months.
For some stupid reason they release one security update late. Last update was 13 December (with the Nov security patch). That means that in approx two days they will release an update if they are on schedule. (Except the Corona situation might delay things)
Now since they release last month's security updates with every update our phone will be brought up to January security update next time.
That's keeping with their promise and the two monthly release.
Considering even Samsung the notoriously bad update king manages to push out recent security updates every month there's understandable reason to be disappointed. Although we are the ones who made assumptions about updates, so I guess we can only blame ourselves ?
They're wary of the virus spread right now in China. So work and other stuff are either halted or limited.
A oneplus staff member stated on their own forum that because of the coronavirus the updates are delayed but op7t will get the january Security Update in the next 2 weeks

"We encountered some delays due to the NCP outbreak. The January security update for 7T will be released in the following two weeks if all goes well."

Yes..i can understand..but yesterday my brother got jan patch on his realme device.. that's also a Chinese manufacturer right.. sorry just saying...wait and see
Thanks for the response you guys ?
Seriously people its just a mobile phone update. People are dying, entire cities are shut down. Have some respect please.
Why would you put your trust in any oem? OnePlus already has your money. Also you're on XDA asking this... a home of developers and other enthusiasts who create and contribute to custom updated roms. [emoji2361]

They're all under BBK electronics yes. (Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Oneplus) but they're seperated into different teams/offices especially OnePlus with it's OxygenOS. So people from Realme can work I think but people from OnePlus can't. It depends on where they are and their worling environment. Just wait. It'll soon be there and development on custom scene shall be A-okay okce twrp gets sorted out.

Delaying this update for Corona virus is understandable, and first thing important is the employees health.
But let's not just pretend this is one time thing. OnePlus always does this, always releases an update at the end of the month with previous months patch set and never really stay on track.
In my opinion, this is where OnePlus has fallen behind, and I think it's because they release too many phones to keep track of.
Oh FFS........ China is under siege from a deadly virus and people are dying right now. Because of the virus large numbers of Chinese did not return to work after their New Year,
factories are shut or are shutting and this is already having an impact for the tech industries around the world and people here are moaning about updates as if their devices will explode if they don't get updated right now. GET REAL !!
Is this really what XDA is these days?

You should try visiting the OnePlus forum. I think every second or third post is someone whining about the security update being late.
Aside from being disgusted by the colossal self-centeredness of so many people *****ing about a damned phone update while people in the phone's country of origin are literally dying, I can't help but wonder WTF these people are doing with their phones to make them that paranoid.
