QI5 Stock and Magisk? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running into a roadblock here, and I was wondering if anyone running stock QI5 has gotten Magisk to install correctly and pass SafetyNet.
ODINing QI5 down, ODINing TWRP down, and installing Magisk from TWRP does not seem to give a functioning Magisk install. Specifically, MagiskHide will not run and save its settings. This causes SafetyNet to fail.
When trying to enable MagiskHide from the commandline (magiskhide --enable), I get a message saying that logd is not running.

What version? I found that QI5 is not 100% compatible with Magisk v16 due to a hard requirement of logd being enabled. v15.3 is fine.

Thanks for confirming!
It means that Magisk Root works, but Magisk Hide does not. That is why SafetyNet fails; you cannot hide su from SafetyNet (or any other app) without Magisk Hide. That was the problem I had with v16. I switched back to v15.3 because that is the latest version that works with our stock ROM.

There are many apps that won't run unless SafetyNet passes or make attempts to detect root. Android Pay is one. Magiskhide is the component that hides your root. There are some apps that Magiskhide can't fool, though.

i read that 15.3 was the last version to work well with sm-910P .. i tried 18.2 and i can`t make it work for somereason says erro when flashing. maybe i dont have stock bootloader or something. i bought the phone from some guy that modified it and dont remember wtf installed to it. i live outside usa and the phone is working and when i format it and install all stock then it doesnt work for calls etc. so i have to restore the backup .
so i dont know what to do. thats why i was trying to kind some magisk to work.
maybe i have to restore bootloader and i have QI5 formware . and i dont want to mess up the phone

IDK if this would be correct place to ask, looked everywhere and this is only thread with even close to problem I have.
Sm-n910p
Magisk 19.3
Lineage 16, latest pie version.
Root works, nothing else tho. Modules don't work, yet install. Safety net passes tho, which is weird, as nothing else works.
If someone could shed some light or perhaps point me in the right direction.

Is anyone using Magisk?

If so, can you post a little about the initial setup? If you want to change kernels do you have to resort back to stock each time?
I understand you need to be completely stock when you install it the first time, I assume with an unlocked bootloader?
I got magisk running smoothly. I can share if anyone wants.

I use Magisk on all Nougat roms. I haven't had any luck with "Chainfires" SuperSU v2.78 or any other version for that matter. I think the set up requires a couple more steps that just flashing a SuperSu zip like the one we are all used to but the benefits that come with Magisk are worth it and it just plain works. And if you use the Magisk manager you can also toggle SElinux on and off and turn root on and off for apps that require no root.. I have been on board since N hit and we has no working root accept for this, and once I used it I was hooked.

Yes, please, if you don't mind. It's a bit of information overload in the magisk thread. I've been watching it intently as the program has developed. Just haven't pulled the trigger on flashing yet.

Yea no prob.
What I did was use the nexus root toolkit to unlock my bootloader (replacement phone) then followed this guide
http://blog.meltedpeng.com/easiest-way-to-install-systemless-root-and-xposed-on-your-nexus-5/
But I replaced the su with the phh super user from magisk.
I also did Franco kernel.
If I need to explain more let me know.
hie guys i am actually new to magisk and using this for pokemon go, my phone is nexus 6p and running android 7.1.1. Everything is working fine as i have checked on root checker pro, I am having some problems and i hope i will get some help here

I flashed Magisk v 12, but not showing up in the Magisk manager app.
I'm on Google Pixel ROM(rooted), with SuperSU.
I thought that the installation guide on the Magisk site said that Magisk would over write SuperSU.
Whats your setup, and what process did you use to get Magisk working?

Magisk does not overwrite supersu, if it detects supersu it does not install it's own superuser version. It continues to allow the system use supersu.
If you want to use magisk and use magisk's su, then you'd need to use a rom that does not come rooted and then flash magisk.

Finally got Magisk installed by removing SuperSU, reflashing the boot image (stock), then Magisk - all good!

A lot of apps won't work if they detect root, or if the SafetyNet won't pass. Android Pay is one of them, but a lot of banking apps, Pokemon Go, Mario Run, etc won't work.

Hmm literally just set up with the following:

So just to check, via Magisk does it pass safetynet? Do you have xposed installed?

And it doesn't seem to work with the busybox from Magisk modules, says it can't detect root. That's actually the reason I don't use Magisk either right now, even though I've managed to install it and other stuff seemed to work ok (eg. Xposed). Titanium can't detect root, and if you try to install Stericson's Busybox it says something about unrecognized binary and refuses to install.
