Is the G3 allso affected in the Hardware/Bootloopbug like the G4 V10... - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hu Guys!
Does anybody know if the G3 is allso affected in the Hardware/Bootloopbug like the G4 V10 and V20?
I've read about poorly glued / soldered CPU Ram connection on these models, is the G3 also affected?

Really nobody knows something!?

Nope, Ive owned 2 already since these 4 years and the only problem i have was the volume buttons sometimes not working and the battery messing up but thats only cuz the battery is old.

Sounds good, cause i planning to buy one...
Thanks for answer!:highfive:

It is 100% affected, the rumors say on the models made in 2014 there was a bad soldering job on the eMMC. So you might start seeing scree fading to black, boot loops. And the battery issue is a normal one imo.

Thanks for warning! I chosed now a Galaxy Note 4 to be save:highfive:

Has your nexus gone bad? Suffered from a damaged speaker, fried CPU, broken screen or similar? Here's the thread to share your exprerience.
Personally I bought my Nexus, brand new on September/October 2012. Sometime on August 2013 a got caught up in an endless bootloop, even odin or similar tricks couldn't save the day so took it to the repair centre (Smartec Greece) and had it back after 4-5 hours with a new motherboard. Pretty fast- problem solved, didn't have to pay something, even though I never got to know which part actually gone bad.
That's about it. I also have replaced stock battery with a new one as the old one was draining faster than the speed of light, no matter what rom I was on.
So let me hear ya!!!!
The goddamn USB port issue, couldn't charge my phone, until I poked that little bugger in there to rise it up a little, created such a hassle

You were lucky, after a year and a half of use my USB finally took a sh*t completely. Luckily the insurance I use has no deductable so I had to fire up my old Incredible 2 for a few days while I waited for a replacement. I'm so glad we have nandroid. All I had to do is unlock the bootloader on my new device, put TWRP back on and restore my nandroid. No hassle really.
WOW!

The same happened to me but I let the battery drain and then charge it for a bit to eneter recovery mode to restore from a back up. Why didnt you do that? I think your problem wasnt just a bootloop problem.
Powerbutton becoming faulty.
Sometimes worked sometimes didnt
Trashed my charge port one morning getting out of bed with a bad hangover..Forgot my phone was plugged and snapped the port right off :crying: I just bought a new charge port flex from ebay for $10 and replaced it myself in about 20 mins

Last year my Nexus dropped into the sea, but luckily survived
My Nexus's battery was damaged so from phone service I got a new one in 2012.
Then My Galaxy Nexus got a screen burn-in ("ghost image") and in the phone service they changed a screen, but my Nexus got that screen burn-in again..
Everything have worked so fine and I never used any other kernels on my Nexus, than the stock ones by Google and CM's kernel and ofc. my modified CM kernel., I have tried some custom kernels, but I never liked any custom kernel. My Nexus has scratches on its cases but screen has always been clean and good. :3
I'm really happy, that my Nexus looks like a new one, but only that screen burn in is annoying
I am on handset number five; one blown earpiece, two cracked screens and the last one had the interface between the digitizer and the motherboard come loose. I was able to wedge some paper between the battery door and phone body to make it work until the replacement came in. Thankfully I got the phone when beat buy had them for free and ponied up for the service plan.

Have mine for 2 years... only problem is an oled burn where the notification bar clock is... the green and red oleds have less brightens on lower brightenes levels... apart from that everything ok.

I'm past the 1.5 year mark with my gnex and the only issue I have so far happened when it fell from my recliner while connected to the charger. The micro-usb metal piece on the cable got bent from the impact and since then I get a weird buzz/rattle when the phone vibrates. Had to reduce the vibrator strength on fancy kernel to get rid of that specific annoyance.
This has been the case for about 8 months now and the phone is still charging fine. Why I don't know is if this is a symptom that will eventually lead to the dreaded no-charging issue that some have shared here.
Had to change whole charging strip. Gnex was showing frequent charging/discharging and battery would drain within an hour!

1.5 year old phone. Volume-up button doesn't work, and hasn't for some time. To increase volume, I have to press volume down and then move the slider up on-screen. No big deal. Also had the USB port break a couple of months ago and had to get it changed. Otherwise it runs fine. Still on stock 4.2 ROM, I keep the GPS switched off most the time, and also have all the lower-level Google sync stuff disabled (screw Google), and battery typically lasts a day and a half of average usage.
Had the Galaxy Nexus since release day and it served me well. It was fast and I only went through a few. Last October I got my Note 3 so I retired my G'Nex, but now I'm going to be using it as a MP3 Player that I can just leave in my car vs using my Phone all the time. Just looking for a Rom that turns it into the Android version of an IPOD touch.

[Q] Advice on buying Xperia ZL?

Hello, dear all users of Xperia ZL...
I'm planning to buy a ZL, I've been thinking about it more than a month to purchase this phone.. I've watched several reviews, advantages, and disadvantages of it. But here in XDA, recently I realized some people faced a problem related to ZL when suddenly shut down itself because of several reasons, like the battery, etc. It looked like because ZL has built-in non removable battery, this kind of problem occurred. And for some people, changing the battery will fix the issue...
Now after knowing this kind of problem, I got myself in dilemma. I mean, this kind of problem is quite serious I think because it is related with the hardware. If it is only about LED, app, or any other software problem, it is not really matter for me, beside if it is already serious I still have XDA.. But if related to the hardware, I'm afraid my purchase will be a total waste...
So, I want to ask to you all, the users of ZL.
Does the newest Xperia ZL phone on sale might still have this kind of problem? Or Sony have already fixed it somehow recalling ZL released on 2013?
Thanks a lot for all of you in advance..

I own an Xperia ZL, bought on Oct 2013, initially, yes, i had an issue of the phone going into deep sleep and being unable to wake. That was on 4.2.2. Activating stamina mode made the sleep of death problem even worse. And back then, the battery was only able of sustaining a day's moderate usage. But since Android 4.3 was released for the ZL, all those problems have been cleared. Now, the phone performs as smooth as the Z1. it has all the camera apps as well which i think are great. Stamina mode runs very well as it should be , and no more battery drain issues. As for your query as to sudden shut down, i think its because the battery overheated. Yes, the phone can run quite warm, if you do hardcore games for long periods, like say, 45 minutes non stop , i personally have never experienced sudden shut down's before. DO also note that if the ZL gets into the occasional freeze or deep sleep, it has an advantage over the Z- a hard reset button beside the simcard slot. On the design front, there is something interesting to note of the ZL's frame. It feels different to that of the Z. the Z's frame is plastic, but the ZL's frame(for the white version) feels metallic(likely aluminium). when you try using your finger to scratch it, the Z's frame is rough, but the ZL's is smooth and hard.

Yeah, I think I did aware that overheat battery is also causing the phone to sudden death. But what I found were quite horrifying, because after the sudden death happen, they cannot turn on their ZL unless they put it to wall charger, some of them also experienced their ZL bootloop even they didn't root it yet. Many of the ZL users fixed this kind of problem by replacing the battery. These problem occurred after the sudden death of the ZL. Are these for real? I mean, getting in touch with replacing battery means this is a ridiculously hardware problem.
I'm wondering is this still happen nowadays with ZL users?

well, in my country only C6502 is available for sale. mine was fine. and people that i have come across generally, never had any problems with their ZL's... so perhaps this might be regional/model issues? try seeking for comments from local people who own a ZL to see what its like. Sony Mobile's support in my country is absolutely horrible. i'm not sure about yours, but the service centre here is very very very poor in service and timing. So i definitely wouldn't want a Sony phone which would have issues.
Got my C6506 (new) OCT 2013.... no hardware issues..... the odd software issues here and there (Google TTS crashing, running the .569 version)....... most irritating thing about the C6506 is its 1-2 months or so lagging in updates.......
I have a C6506 too. I've had mine for just under a year. And no issues for me except the black dots on my pictures. I'm just praying I don't get the power death issue as well. I've even pulled out my old Motorola Atrix and got it flashed with a solid ROM, just so I have a backup device in case.

Had that sudden power off issue, still my phone was without warranty so I had to change the battery. Reasons are: horrifying battery quality+hard gaming, played like 4 horus/day for 2 weeks and the problem begun. ( no clocktweaks at all! )
If you buy a phone WITH warranty, and it's truth the fact that the phone's production stopped I totally encourage you to do so, best case scenario you get the problem and get switched for a better model ( if you check sony's support forum you'll see some exchanges for "Z" or even "Z1" models ). Worst case you get the problem on 366 day and you buy a new, cheap by then, battery; not such a bad thing, the phone will keep on working for +20 bucks or so
I'm owning my C6503 since mid April 2013. Never had a sudden power off. Since June 2013 I haven't been on the stock firmware and never had any hardware issues.
Go for it!
I've had my ZL for a bit more than 4 months now. It was rooted from its first days till some weeks ago that I flashed stock 4.3 to it. Now it's working better than 4.2, but it's un-rooted. (Hoping for a rooting method for when 4.4 is available, please @DooMLoRD!!)
Never had any issues of any kind. Solid, big yet compact and beautiful looking device, now at a very good price.
But you have to consider; if you are a guy or a girl that spends most of his/her day outside (with little to no rest-to-recharge possibilities) you will need a battery bank of at least 5000mAh to go with you so you can really use yor ZL the whole day without compromises. Otherwise your ZL will die on you in +-8 hours of usage due to the high screen brightness you need when you're outside a building and you won't be able to play anything. Ha
The ZL's battery -now- can last up to 12 hours under moderate usage on the go, and up to 22 hours if you have a job that needs you to concentrate and stop touching your device for 8 hours, in such cases you only touch your device for little moments till your working day is over.
All in all this is a great device; fast and powerful enough for any task. Its camera and all is good. But I'll get a 10000 mAh battery bank as soon as I can cause I feel that way I can really make this babe shine that splendid screen, and not to have it at low brightness because of the battery. But that's me. Why 10000 mAh? Cause the 5000 or 7500 ones are almost as big and heavy as the 10000 one, and just a little bit more expensive. Reasonable, huh? And I can carry one anyway.
I hope this helped you.
- Leonardo.
Pd: Soon I'll be posting my trick for the ZL's screen, to make it look almost like the IPS screen of the G2.
And the black version is better looking for me.
First of all... Thanks for all the replies guys.. I really appreciate all your feedback and suggestions..

So apparently, the newest 4.3 firmware works flawlessly without such power death issue as far as you know right? Because actually that problem I've found seems like when ZL is still several months after released and looks like still not getting this newest firmware update... That's why I need to confirm whether there is still such problem for newest ZL out there...
Thanks for the suggestion about black color btw, I'm actually planning to buy the black one...
And for other members that haven't shared their experiences in using ZL, I really hope you'd share.. because I'm like a lost girl at a forest, I need to know if I really should buy this overwhelming device.. I would really appreciate all of your feedback, guys...
And thanks in advance once again..

i agree to everything the Sw33t_Lov3r said about the battery.
I have a Galaxy s4 and my wife has the ZL. The ZL is a bit wider than my S4, so I find that I have to use it two handed more often than the S4. The screen viewing angles are terrible on the ZL. This is a problem when my wife is trying to show me a photo sitting across from me and all I can see are washed out images. Camera and battery life are average at best. On the positive side, the ZL screen is very good in bright sunlight. The software is excellent and Sony's Small Apps are a nice touch.
Edit: The ZL has the black dots in the camera, which is really poor quality control from Sony.
Edit: To the OP, I would not recommend the ZL.

Now that you mention it, I just know about the ZL camera issue..
Thanks for the feedback..
I know that ZL actually has several disadvantages, but I dont really mind if they're about hardware that not really affect the performance, as long as it is works like it should be..
That's why I aimed for ZL, because I don't have anything across my mind beside ZL that has those performance.. Now that I found some more issues, I don't really know what should I buy with similar performance and price if not ZL..

Dang! You're right! I held them up one on top of the other, and the S4 is wider.
Not sure if it is because of the sharp corners, but with the ZL I seem to have to stretch my thumb more.

I found this site. Its based in Indonesia.
Do you have, or are you able to get a Visa Debit card?
Its a card that acts like a debit, drawing money from your own accounts, but you can use it for online purchases instead of a credit card!

Battery aging

I've had my V500 for less than a year and half, but I'm noticing that battery life is declining. I think I'm going to need to replace the battery with a fresh one soon. Is anybody else noticing that their battery life is declining?
One issue is finding a new battery that's been recently manufactured. A battery that's been sitting on a shelf for a year is not going to be a big improvement. The other hassle is that the tear down of the G Pad looks like a pain.
Has anybody else gone through this yet?

I replaced the battery in my V500 trying to track down poor battery performance. It was a pita removing the back cover as it has some type of super adhesive on it. The good news is once you get it disassembled its very easy if you ever have to do it again. There is one screw thats hiding in the sd card area that I didnt know about and took me forever to find it. Good luck :good:

Unfortunately I didn't get much if any improvement. I bought it off EBay but I just checked and the seller no longer lists it. Although I was very leery of "battery improvement apps" I found one that seemed to actually help, Battery Life Repair. I run it about every 6 weeks and it seems to help.
I've had my pad for just over a year.It drains much faster now,but still usable.A weird problem I have now, though,is it takes longer to charge. It use to take 3hrs for a full charge, now 4.5+hrs. Anyone also have this?

Had it happen on other lg device's and a different or new charger/cable resolved it for us.
same charger & cable.gpad is the only lg i own. suppose to charge quicker as battery is dying.
I took a risk and bought my Gpad from Computer Exchange. The unit is in mint condition but you can never tell the age of the battery or how it will perform in the real world.
Fortunately, its been as good as my Nexus 7 (2013) and even better now that I have switched it to ART and by using Greenify, (non root version.) :highfive:
I installed a new battery in my G Pad and now I think I've broken it. It's overheating and the wifi has stopped working. I would probably buy another G Pad to replace it, but I bet that they've stopped making them, so all of them probably have old batteries by now. I think I'm going to be forced to buy something else, maybe a Galaxy Tab S. Unfortunately, it's not easy to replace the battery in the G Pad and I don't think there's much after-market support for repair, etc.

I feel sorry for you if you need to replace the v500. The v400 and v700 all have crappy 720p screens. For this reason, I was thinking about the Hudl 2 if I couldn't find a good second hand v500.
Strangely enough, after more than a year I can still see no ageing of the battery whatsoever. Always try to fully discharge and charge in one go, if possible.
But I guess I will sell it sooner or later as I cant see any Lollipop being released for that machine any more....and I am a bit fearful about trying any custom ROMs.
While I do see refurbs listed here and there, I did notice some LTE (Verizon) units for sale when I googled that didn't say "refurbished". Push comes to shove, if you like the tablet and the price is right...maybe just use the wifi aspects.

I installed a new battery in my G Pad and now I think I've broken it. It's overheating and the wifi has stopped working. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much after-market support for repair, etc.

For Myself.. It Was: "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"
I was fortunate enough to get the 5-18-14 version of the Mahdi-ROM last year before it was pulled..
ZERO Reboots, FC's, Error Msgs etc since it's installation..
Along with that, Battery Life has not wavered one bit.. just like the ROM.
I can't believe I've kept the OG-Pad 8.3 since Oct 2013..but I have Mahdi to thank for that.. Nothing has been or ever will be flashed. The OG-PAD will die still married to the Mahdi-ROM..

Emergency (I think)

My G4 has just started showing screen burn in, mostly the notification bar. It appears faintly red, and according to the burnt-in time, it was less than 20 minutes ago. I have been using it alot since 3 days ago, and have left the screen static for far longer than this without problems. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Update: things seem to "burn in" after just a few minutes of being on-screen. Only solid white images and text do this, and they leave behind a red shadow on lighter grey or blue colors
update 2: "burn-in repair" apps definitely work, but my status icons burn in again, in the same way, within 5 minutes. I'm honestly crushed, as I loved this phone. It seems I'll have to return it..
Could there be a fix, guys? I'd hate to have to return it
Try this. Use phone for 30+min. Plug charger when phone is on. Turn off phone and wait blue battery sign. Look at top side screen. There you will see al signs. This is my post with same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3289496

That's my exact problem. Guess I'll return it and get a different phone altogether. The g4 is a complete bust, it seems. Some have a loose motherboard, some overheat, some have green blobs on the camera, some of their cameras stop working altogether, glitchy lcd's, dead pixel clusters.... Geeeeez

What? I've not heard of most of the issues you described....
I've noticed a small amount of image retention (not burn in... LCD's dont burn in!) when booting into TWRP, but when actually using a ROM there's no issues.
I have no idea what you're talking about with loose motherboards or overheating... I've seen a couple of reports of a green blob on the camera, glitchy LCD's was a single batch of Verizon/Sprint models, and I don't know what you mean by dead pixel clusters.
Sounds like you're looking for reasons to dislike the phone...!

No, I love the phone, believe you me. The motherboard thing has several threads here, and the other issues are mostly isolated, but also mostly carrier specific. You have to dig a little to find them. It's just coming down to risk. I want as little risk for as much return as possible, so for me, all those reported problems (even though they are few and far between) are just as important and search-worthy as things like chipset, ui lag, camera tech, screen size, etc are to other people.
The lg g4, on paper, was perfect in every way, and so I assumed the return on the investment was going to be far greater than any risk. Now that something happened though, I just can't get over it.
It's an electronic device. Logically speaking there will be some with issues. You can't avoid that.
Reading forums isn't a good way to find out about the reliability of a device. People are more inclined to post problems and negativity on review sites and forums. There are far many more G4's out in the wild with no problems whatsoever than ones out there with issues that you describe. Hint: If you have to hunt around to find mention of a problem, it's probably not very widespread...

You're absolutely right man. I went into a cell phone store today, and of all the ones out, the g4 is still the best, the sexiest, and has the most features I like. It also feels SO GOOD in hand. I don't think I'll be able to go with a different phone now....hahaha
I do just need to chill.

Is Reballing a DEFINITIVE solution to LG G4's bootloop?

I've heard it is.
But with it, 2 more questions arise, since i've seen people claiming it's the RAM problem, others saying it's the CPU. Nobody seems to agree on what's the actual problem.
So, I tried ironing the G4 over the RAM, around 230°C for 3 minutes, pressed on it a bit then let it cold. Proceeded to put folded aluminum and Artic MX-2 thermal compound so it would make pressure on it but also transfer heat okayish.
I've had random reboots but apart from that it's working.
So here is the thing, if i send it for a reballing of the RAM (obviously good lead solder) will it work with no problem? Or do i need to reball the CPU instead?
This because im not wasting any more money on this device only to fail again in a near future.
What do you guys think?
Its both. Ram sitting over CPU. CPU solders are actualmprobkem though....caused by poor soldering
Don't bother. The solders points are do tiny they use a computer not hand

So in theory reballing both CPU and RAM would solve it? Or is the CPU itself which doesnt work properly?
I know people who have the proper tools to work on small components, i just dont wanna spend on it if even after reballing both turn out the CPU is actually bad like on those nvidia 8800 GTX, which failed anyway after reballing, turning out the problem wasnt the solder but the actual GPU which killed itself.

The actual problem is to o components sitting on each other causing excessive heat. Its not a defective CPU or RAM chip. I've seen a video on YouTube where a guy places a thermal paste pad and never has issues again
I'm not isure if it us the actual solder points get screwed up because my device has never looped. You'd have to ask someone to show you pics after a bootloop. But then again if a person was able to fix it with a thermal pad I don't think its the solder points but rather putting something that dissapates the heat off the chips
You cannot mimic a solder point like this. Its too small. Expect to get no guarantee that the solder point will last
Anyone will tell u go get a board or another device. Only people that actually do small work like that are Chinese (not being racist) in my area atleast that have a lot of expierence in fixing electric components. They never guarantee their work though because the work they're asked to do they know they can't mimic a robot
For the money you spend trying to solder you can probably get a new board these days. Mine is a pre release. It has 2gb of ram instead of 3. So did it loop? I don't know. LG doesn't acknowledge it as a loop. They call it a power failure. Does it mean bootloop? Its possible. I'm kinda confused about my phone but I've never seen the axtuql bootloop. Just not being able to power the phone on. No one has a 2gb ram G4 like I do. Did they replace the ram? Beats me...but I can tell you no one else got a G4 with 2gb ram from LG back.
Sorry if I confused you but I meant its the heat and overlay of ram and CPU that causes the problem, whether it actually screwed up the solder points I'm not sure

I've seen these small components get their solder balls replaced, it requieres skills but it can be done and as i've seen it thats why im confident on it. But yes im aware it could also go wrong.
I've been thinking and im also guessing it could be flexion damage, like the iphone 6. As the G4 is curved, perhaps a motherbaord screwed too tight, combined with use and heat could be the cause of it bootlooping, hence why it sometimes works again by putting pressure on it.
Actually i made some kind of small 'heatsink' out of folded aluminum foil, compressed it while heating it @ 200°C to get air bubbles out, and used thermal compound so that thingy both makes pressure on to the chip and disipates heat. Worked fine for 4 days then its back to bootloop again.
Thats one odd G4 you got there. I wouldnt mind at all having even 1 GB of RAM if that ment the device is working properly.
You are making me realise im better off buying a new board then putting in those mini cooper heatsinks.
tbh im struggling right now with moneyz so its fixing this, or buying a screen for either my Xperia Arc S (which is slow af thanks to google play services, but cant use any app without them) or for my Moto X 2013 (which looses phone signal when it gets hot until you reboot, also NFC chip doesnt work).
Repairing any of those would cost me something similar so i guess im better off with a new board. You know any trusted seller on ebay?
And thanks a lot for the help :highfive:
I guess by seeing videos they always heat the CPU and the solder points start working again
My phone and ram is just a mystery.
Because they're both right there.... Maybe either one can go. But I always see the CPU getting heated.
I love how none of the videos tell you or show you how easy it is to melt the chip using a blow dryer. Lol

Alibaba or aliexpress or eBay. I'd ask the seller for serial boars number. You know its likely good if it starts with a 6. Even better with a 7. If your lucky you'll find one with a 4 like mine....
810 board with 811 T-Mobile software. Takes custom Roma that are aosp based but not lg based....which doesn't matter anymore because lg based ROMs are lollipop based and were at Oreo now.
I don't really have problems with having 1gb ram leas. But occassionaly my phone will become sluggish if I open like 30 things

Also i'd like to keep all my camera's capabilities so no custom ROM for me.
But yeah i went to some sellers and asked about their motherboards serial number and see if at least i can get a 60X
Seems like the only way to get a working phone.

Some camera apps are pretty good much better than the stock google camera...users have discussed options in AOSCP thread. But yeah u won't get raw capture with them
Don't bother with serial number starting with 5 they're older motherboards...5 being 2015...when they first came out. 6 2016 7 2017
I can't stand lg stick software its so ugly would of never bought phone if it didn't gave ROMs.
I have two extended batteries and wall charger so I swap out batteries instead if using USB charger...if it wasn't for thus I'd likely be using another phone

mine is a 509 so yeah i wont pick those.
I mean with the G4 i use the stock LG camera app, not the google camera. LG Camera app on original signed firmware gives best quality imo. I have no problems with LG UI so ill keep it. And yes battery life is a pain but meh hehe, tbh my standars right now are so low that id forgive any flaw if i get a reliable working phone and not one that randomly restarts and bootloops-
So well yes i'll try with a new motherboard, preferably 70X and put a thermal pad on it right away. Thanks a lot for your time

fair enough, but its engineered in pretty much the same way inefficient way as they've been doing it since the G3 which also had this problems, so honestly with this phone im not taking any chances, ill just put a little thermal pad and thats all ill do.
that battery requires calibration or just plug n play?

Was scrolling through my old posts and figured it may be interesting for you to know this.
I baked the SoC with an iron, worked fine for like 2 days, then bootlooped again.
I was broke so I sold it for spare parts rather than getting a new board.
Kinda regret it ngl, but man, battery life was absolutely terrible. Had to charge it AT LEAST, twice a day, and my Poco F3 could go on 3 days if I administered it well, and doesn't heat up.
As of right now, while I have a Poco F3 as mentioned, I have to daily drive an LG G3, for which I am also struggling because it's using Android 6 and some apps I need are not compatible, and I'm struggling to flash a ROM on the verizon version... just troubles over troubles with LG...
same ol', same ol'.
