nokia 8 sirocco review - Nokia 8 Sirocco Guides, News, & Discussion

Mod edit: spam link removed - the all specs and review of nokia 8 sirocco

I like the Sirocco.
Well, I had a Note 4, S7, V20 ...
I like the Sirocco better.
The cam is better in S7 according to DxOMark. But the Sirocco is more elegant, a tad shorter and thinner. The size is exactly right in my hands. And the software is more pure. I also believe the Sirocco is more damage-resistant due to the steelframe, it should be more than 2 times stronger than aluminium.
Nokia had a reputation for building long-lasting phones, I hope we are going to see the same thing here. It depends however on the battery, whereas Samsung has more than doubled battery lifespan in its phones from S8.
Oh, I wish there was an app to stop charging at 80% ...
Batterylife is excellent, even with very heavy use for hours I have 30-40% left at night. Test made by another shoved the Nokia 8 had 20% left when the Sirocco had 50%.
The speaker is quite loud and voices are very clear, a really good speaker.
Mics should be almost at level with the v20.
Some are complaining of blue sides on white pages, I find it charming.
I miss a good bluetooth soundquality, and there is no headphone-jack, but dongles are no problem at all.
Wireless charging is not working with case on
Pages are loading fast. There are however small stutters in Candycrush, which takes 10 seconds to load. Could be worse. Launcher is good, but Nova is of course more customizable.
I paid 326€ on eglobalcentral, delivery was 10 days.
I like the phone due to the wonderful design and the feeling of durable quality.

Anyone else coming from the Nexus 6? How do you feel about your Pixel XL?

I bought the Nexus 6 right around launch. I loved the size of the phone and the speakers, but it has not aged well for me and runs quite slowly once I hit 50% battery. Apps like Snapchat are almost unusable at 100% battery.
The Pixel XL is hands down the smoothest Android experience ever. My first phone was a Droid 2 and I've always been an Android user. Never has a phone felt so fast and functional, and apps that didn't work well previously (Snapchat) are smooth as butter. The battery life is also great so far.
But for the price point, I expected more somehow. Firstly, coming from a Nexus 6, the phone feels so tiny! I didn't think half an inch would be that much of a difference, but I am still adjusting to even typing on a smaller screen.
I really, really miss the speakers. Why did they put the bottom firing speaker on the left? I know many people use the "pinky" grip on larger phones, and being right handed, I now block the speaker constantly. The right side has a similar grill that seemingly does nothing... why didn't they put it there?
My other complaint is the tactile buttons. I don't know if there's something wrong with my phone, but the power and volume buttons are stiff as hell in comparison to the Nexus 6. It goes beyond "clicky" to just purely annoying. I really have to grip the phone to press those buttons, and this design choice confused me as well. Has anyone else noticed this?
And then there's the "rapid" charging. Why does it take an hour and 7 minutes to charge from 66% to 100% when my Nexus 6 would take half that time or less?
I feel like I paid $120 more for a smaller phone with worse speakers and charging and buttons for better speed and operability. Then again, the Nexus 6 was also quite fast two years ago, and it isn't now.
I came from a nexus 6 also. In my opinion the only thing I miss from it are the speakers and little bit extra screen size . The charging I never noticed since my nexus 6 and pixel xl last me all say day so I just plug them in when I sleep. The thing that amazed me the most with the pixel was how much better the battery life is. With my pixel I get 6 to 6.5 hours of screen on time unlike my nexus 6 witch got about 4 hours with out mods, but on my nexus 6 with hells core kernel and a lot of mods to that kernel I did usually get about 6 hours of screen on time with my nexus 6. So now I can't wait for more kernel development on the pixels so I can try to get 10 hours of screen on time, but over all I'm don't regret upgrading. Also the price difference I can live with that. I pre ordered my pixel xl I got a free daydream headset and also the pixels come with a free 3 month subscription to Google play music so I can live with that .
Also to NOTE please don't try to compare your battery life to mine. Everyone's usage of their phones is different so your battery life may very!
I had the 6 as well and agree with clapper speakers and vibrate are my only complaint. As well I found the keyboard was more accurate on the 6 but that may be due to screen size. No regrets excellent battery life camera is outstanding performance top notch with nice exclusive features. When Allo integrates with SMS /google voice I'll be super stoked
I just sold my nexus 6 to a friend after getting the Pixel xl. I was sad to see it go but I love my Pixel. He was on a galaxy s5 and I was proud to welcome him to the nexus line with one of the best phones I've ever owned. He's had it 3 days and loves it. He's not a power user and isn't rooted or anything but is on Straight Talk and had no issues, just put the SIM card in and had data and everything.
Not super happy with the sound quality compared to the 6 and I've had horrendous Bluetooth issues with my scion tc. The Pixel is so snappy and the difference in display size isn't very noticeable. I feel like the color on the Pixel is brighter, but it looks less natural. I flashed the Pixel dialer awhile ago on the nexus 6 so I enjoy that on here.
Just can't wait for Xposed. *drools*

I had the nexus 6p previously and wasn't sure if the pixel xl was worth an upgrade. Bought it anyway and well no regrets so far. Battery life is amazing, performance is top notch and overall build is solid.
I had a Nexus 6 before getting the Pixel XL. Without a doubt I miss the dual front facing speakers most. For the Pixel being an expensive flagship, I think the speaker placement was pretty poor. Other than that it is superior with battery life, performance and screen quality to name a few.

Battery and performance and camera speed are so much better than the 6p, wow.
The speakers are atrocious though. It may not really be worth the total cost of the upgrade from the 6p, but man do i feel good not worrying about missing shots with my camera or carrying a battery pack around.
Compared to the 6 though, it is well worth it. Actually being able to use the screen outside is amazing. I actually do miss the 6inch screen though.
Came from the Nexus 6 and overall display quality and brightness are much improved. I can now look at my screen on a bright sunny day and have no issues seeing the content. Well worth that alone for me
I loved my nexus 6, as to when I moved to the Pixel XL...
What I like:
* The camera is night and day better
* battery life is improved ( Does not matter to me much as I rarely had to charge is except at night.)
* I thought the finger print scanner was more of a gimmick... I take it all back I was wrong. I actually really like the fingerprint reader.
* faster
Cons:
* No front facing speakers (This actually bugged me more than I thought it would.)
* no wireless charging ( ya i am sure they will make a case that has it. )
* Mine is white... YA ya... colors... who cares its in a case.
That's it, while I didn't see the HUGE improvements, I have NO issues with my upgrade.
Like other said, came from Moto Nex 6 and only miss the speakers.
Love the fingerprint reader!
Screen is smaller but much brighter and the clarity is a tad bit better doing to being a higher DPI.
nexus 6p stocked sucked balls but with custom roms etc runs fine, pixel xl amazing stock can t wait to see what the devs have to offer.p
I had nothing but issues with my Nexus 6. I liked the design of it but for me it just seemed poorly implemented. I thought the 6p would never be beaten, but I was wrong. Love the pixel. I think I'd they could make the device a little more compact height wise and keep the screen the same it would have been perfect. I do agree the look of it is plain, but it's classy at least.
I'm on my first day with pixel xl from a Nexus 6. The first thing I noticed is how much nicer the form is on the Pixel. The second is that there isn't a big improvement in smoothness or speed vs the 6. I recently did a factory reset on the N6 so it's about as fast as I can expect. I liked the screen size of the 6 but grew tired of how awkward it was to hold and keep in my pocket. 5.5" is the right size. I hated the curve on the back of the 6.
The speakers on the XL are loud but so imbalanced sounding compared to the 6... big disappointment. Where pixel shines in function is battery life and the camera. In a side by side test I could take three pictures with Pixel in the time out takes to make 1 with N6. So a good upgrade even considering the speakers.
Came from Nex 6. Must say wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money but very happy so far. Noticeably quicker ,better camera and battery. Enjoy g fingerprint sensor more then I thought. Biggest issue is speakers and wish the screen went all the way down instead of the dead space. But overall very happy
Came from N6, i loved that phone but even though it was a great phone, i dont miss a thing. Pixel XL camera is a huge difference, love the fingerprint reader and how fast this phone is, Google really wanted to make to this phone special and imho they did.
I don't see the big deal with the front facing speakers that most people complain about. I think the pixel didn't have them because of how the phone sits in the daydream vr. I would imagine that it would muffle the sound. The nexus 6 was one of my favorite phones I have ever had, and now the pixel has taken that place. I love the fingerprint scanner (Always thought it was lame lol) The phone feels better in my hands compared to my n6. I am currently returning the phone to stock and turning it in to Verizon for a bill credit. The camera is a million times better, I took a picture of my daughter using the daydream with my n6 and it just sucked lol
Another nexus 6 user that only misses the speakers. I really didn't notice the screen size change after a day of use and the phone is so much faster. The battery life is much better I can get double the screen on time. 2-3 hours on nexus 6 4-6 hours on pixel XL.
I came from the Nexus 6P and buy me the normal Pixel. I want a smaller phone with stock Android + newest Hardware and I don't regret it. On my Pixel I get like 7h screen on and on my Nexus 6-7h.

Would you recommend the HTC 10 in late 2017 ?

Hey guys im looking for a new phone which isn't heavy on the budget but still delivers (currently using Nexus 5x) and im deciding between the HTC 10 and GS S7 Edge , the 10 is brand new 270 pounds and the S7 Edge is refurbished 300 pounds . I would like to hear your opinions and is it worth buying in late 2017 .
Are you getting an Exynos GS7 or a Snapdragon one? If I recall correctly, only the Exynos model has lots of development because the Snapdragon models are locked down. I assume you care since you're asking on XDA.
Other than that, what else is important to you? Would you prefer a more compact phone or a larger one? Is waterproofness necessary for you? I hate extreme curved screens but you might like it.
For me, the HTC 10 is still a great phone in 2017. We're definitely getting Oreo and the only real lacking point is waterproofness (which isn't even important to everyone). It's fast, has a good camera, the battery life is good and development has been good.

The Exynos model , waterproofness isn't a necessary for me , im looking for a better performance and battery life and yes i do like to tinker with my phones i've moded my nexus with root , kernel , thermal optimizations and so on . What kind of screen on time do you get ? My nexus gets me 3 hours of screen on time max with a total time off charger 7-8 hours im down to 10 % , i consider my use as a heavy one because i like to play games listen to music on spotify and chat .
If battery life is your most important factor (performance won't be that far apart overall) then the Edge will probably do better since it's a larger phone (and hence a larger battery).
The HTC 10 is competent for a 2016 flagship but nothing extraordinary. When I'm playing games, I get between 4-5 hours of SOT for example. You'll find that 4-5 hours SOT is what most people report for their SOTs under heavy use.

Okay thanks for your time you gave me valuable information and now its up to me setting my priorities in deciding which one to buy.
I don't know about others, but the HTC 10 has been a pretty amazing phone for me. The size is just perfect, the audio is amazing, and the software, even if a little stale, is fast and smooth.
My only problem with it is the battery. My battery life has been horrible ever since the Nougat Update, and after sending it to the service, I'm certain that this is a software issue. I hope that Oreo will fix this issue though.
If you rely on battery as heavy gamer/user don't look at this phone, drainage is very fast just with medium use, heavy kills it faster. S7 has more endurance
I recently bought a HTC 10. I was thinking of getting an S7 but I opted for the HTC 10 for things that I like, such as, 3.5mm jack at the top of the device, metal body, volume keys and power on the right hand side and type c usb 3.1 (more for the future).
A key reason for the HTC 10 are the custom roms that are currently available on the AOSP side. In terms of manufacturer stock android, HTC Sense isn't too bad. Although I do rock a custom rom (AICP to be precise) I do miss HTC's boomsound, HTC camera and power saving.
I have both the 10 and the Pixel 1 (5 inch). I've used both a lot - concentrating on the 10 for a good half a year until I just gave up. Although the 10's Android is nearly identical to AOSP, the fact that HTC doesn't care about decimal updates (no 7.1) - there are particular parts of the upgrade to 7.1 on the Pixel which would fix some of the annoyances I've found with 7.0 on the 10 - and that the software on the Pixel works so well that I prefer to just modify it with some root apps than run a custom ROM anymore, I would go for anything but the 10. Also, my wife and I had a horrible experience having her phone replaced under their non-warranty 1st year Uh Oh Prorection deal.
I also really don't like that with polarized sunglasses on, the 10's screen is unviewable in portrait mode. Most manufacturers choose landscape mode for that, and the Pixel screen is only black at odd angles (diagonally).
Now the only thing I use the 10 for is music, and to have a spare just in case.
Which network are you on?
I love my 10 except for whatever nougat has done to the battery life. It's decent but not as good as it was on the previous Android version.
Other than that...the size is good, sound is great, the screen is really good, no bloatware and the available themes give your phone a new feeling when you need it. HTC has also been very good with the security updates.
If you're looking for cases, I'd recommend checking Ali Express. They have a better selection than Amazon.

I love my 10 and all, and I think it was the most remarkable phone of 2016. It was the only real choice for a "robust" phone that you can rely on to not disintegrate if it falls, with all the flagship specs of 2016. The fingerprint sensor is better than the S7E, and the screen colors are better IMO. The camera is great for average use, which is what I can comment on.
That being said, I'd get a Nokia this year. Or better yet, wait for next year's refresh of the Nokia 5 and get it with Oreo and Project Treble. I think this should be any tinkerer's criteria for a phone purchase from here on: PROJECT TREBLE. Phone after phone, I find myself spending my money on a higher resolution screen (1080p is enough), and a faster SOC (any modern SOC will get the job done wonderfully), just so that I can buy into the update-receiving club of an OEM. With Project Treble, I can give up this "forced-upgrade" for the sake of updates, and rest assured that I'll always have the latest version of Android running, either with OEM support or with XDA support.
Cheers and good luck.

Beware the hidden issue with these phones is that they have 4gb of ram and 3.6-3.8 usable. Heavier multi tasking between some apps for example, chrome, spotify, fb messenger, and your choice of texting apps does not go well. I used to have the one plus 3 and it handled that multi tasking like a champion. If you could I would recommend the one plus 3 it can get 6-8 hours sot with the right kernels and roms. You also dont have to deal with touch wiz. Also the one plus 3 has the same 3000 mah battery htc has I'm not sure what the s7 has. But I bet you couldnt get 8 hours sot on it lol
Just my two cents, but I like my 10 a lot. I do run a custom ROM on it, and bought the Sprint version, which can be unlocked to use on any network except for VZ. You can also unlock LTE bands with this phone, so it will work with literally every network that's not on VZ...worldwide.
The screen is probably the best non-(AM)OLED screen that I've used, but I do miss the (AM)OLED from my S5 and Droid Turbo.
The camera does very very well with the modified Google camera by BSG or Arnova8G2, at least in mid to higher lights. In low light you have to turn off ZSL or else it'll be very very dark.
The battery is mediocre. I get about 4 hours of SoT before I feel the need to recharge. That's with fairly heavy use/games.
Build quality is great. Gorilla Glass 3 is just as strong as 5 (just not as thin) but it will scratch on you. There aren't any good glass screen protectors for this phone, so you'll have to tough it out without one or go the flexible screen protector route. Zack from JerryRigEverything named this the most sturdy phone of 2016.
The modding community is great, and other than the OnePlus and a few Samsungs, it's more popular on XDA even than the Pixel. There's two 8.0 ROMs out there and both are very capable daily drivers.
What I want that would make this the perfect phone: OLED screen, bettery battery, better case selection (the imak cowboy case is pretty nice, same with the Nillkin Nature), no low-light photo issues with Google Camera. That's it. Literally, it has everything else I could want.

To the question in the title, I'd answer, "maybe" but the latest Chinese offerings look tempting but I don't know their quality.
To the question in the post (10 vs S7 Edge), that's a different one altogether, so not sure which one you're really asking. I upgraded to the 10 from the Nexus 5 (not the 5X) and found it to be an excellent upgrade in the post-Nexus world. (The Pixel cost too much for my taste and, frankly, it's ugly.)
Prior to the N5, I had the Samsung SIII and loved that phone. The hardware, anyway; I hate TouchWiz and removed it from my SIII and Note 10.1. Between greater bootloader unlock hassle and explosions (and the dishonest handling of those), I avoid Samsung entirely (to include computer hardware and household appliances).
That's my thinking that may give you some ideas to consider. My only issues with the htc 10 are the display quality issue (yellow tint at the bottom) and the temperamental fingerprint scanner. (poor customer service and slow updates but those are normative for all OEMs, sans Google on the latter) Otherwise, it's a solid phone with a superb aesthetic, especially the red one and, at the time, it was deeply discounted by htc.

Add to that a removable battery door, so that the battery may be removed completely. I hate this "glue the phone together" style of manufacturing.
One year on, my battery is weak and the performance is choppy. I just put up with it rather than have to reset it all the time.
But I bought it mainly for the audio performances and it's fantastic in that regard. If you look at it as getting a nice mobile phone and superb DAP in one the price now is a bargain.
I've been with my HTC 10 since May 2016 so that has been 1.5 year and these are my experiences
- Camera is GREAT (snappy - lots of functions - great quality)
- Performance has been as snappy as Pure Android
- Updates aren't so often (official ROMs are still on 7.0 and most probably August Patch lol)
- Battery has been a little bit worsen since Nougat update but I gotten rid of the issue by installing custom kernels and great ROMs you could find here in XDA.
- Device quality is TOP-NOTCH
- Sound quality is STILL ON OF THE BEST TODAY (you could use any fancy or higher impedance headphones on this boy and it sounds LEGIT)

I had the revolutionary HTC one M7, I had the M9 and got the HTC 10 on launch day. I am on T-Mobile but I unlocked the SIM and wrote SuperCID and switched to the unlocked developer version. I am using Magisk systemless root with a bunch of modules and the phone just works... and the music quality is just top notch!
i still love mine--HTC 10

One thing in its defense of gluing, the last THREE Samsung phones I've had where the battery is removable has had battery connection issues. As in, I tap my phone wrong and it restarts.
I also think the HTC 10 has had battery issues where it reports incorrectly.

Vernee X 4Gb/64Gb Mediatek P23

So, I wanted to put a word in for Vernee, and specifically for this phone.
I looked around for a forum and didn't find one.
This is a wonderful budget phone, absolutely. A sleeper.
At $180 roughly, it's fantastic.
Everything about it IS a step down from Flagship but the package it delivers punches well above it's class.
This is just a set of observations to help those thinking about digging around the lower priced Chinese offerings.
I'll try and give a comparative review.
The phone is just a few millimeters taller than the OnePlus 5T, a few shorter than the Galaxy 8+ and roughly the same width as the HTC U11.
The screen is 18:9 and tinted in such a way that the screen appears to take up the entire front surface before you fire it up.
Although I have seen reviews that say it is a metal phone, it is not. The back is a very solid form of plastic, treated and painted to look like metal.
Don't get me wrong; it's not a bad look at all. The deep blue looks radiant in the sunlight and the soft texture of it feels wonderful in the hand.
The phone is as heavy as the Mate 9 but feels perfectly weighted. It really feels great to hold and they've curved the back in such a way that it feels far slimmer than it is - which at 9.8mm, it is not.
When you turn the screen on, you notice that Vernee has done a great job with slimming the bezels, and the glass, though not Gorilla glass has a nice, slick feel to it.
It's built to a very high standard; compelling when you think they just begun to make phones in 2016.
The P23 mediatek chip is perfectly adequate for everyday use - I'd say think Qualcomm 820/821 (Lg G4).
There are a few stutters and it's not as fluid as say the OnePlus 5T but it IS quick and the management of it's 4Gbs of ROM keeps lots of apps on tap.
And now, the killer. They've stuffed a huge battery in there. They say it's a 6000 but My Device reads it at 4000.
Any which way, the battery is a revelation. On, and on, and on - It will easily give you 2 days of normal use, all in a relatively tight package - but I'm not like that. I am on it ALL DAY doing everything, with everything on from 08:00 and still, as I come to charge at 23:00 there's 15% in it.
Astonishing.
And I think that's where this phone hits its home run.
It looks good, it feels good, it runs well - you'd be hard pressed to be embarrassed laying it on the table beside the absolute big guns - and you could have five of them for the price.
It's an Astonishing feat.
Think 4 by 4 Beemer or Merc in the bush against the original Toyota Prado.
But unlike a bear-bones interior, you have leather seats, good stereo, manual sun-roof and proper differentials.
You know what I'm talking about.
The Vernee X is not rugged but it's handsome, sure footed, tireless and a joy to carry around.
It will take you dancing all night long, and that, at least, in Miyake.
Yes. There is a catch. The camera.
It's not bad but you'll want great light all the time. And don't try that blurred shallow focus thing, it's not good.
Still there pictures are adequate sometimes and very good at other.
This phone has climbed into my pocket and the company, won my heart and I can't wait to see what Vernee has for us this year and next.
The Doogees, Elephones...are on notice.
So are, in another few years I think, Samsung et.al.
Still no one ROM for this model... Someone from the owners of this unit, could you make a full backup of the firmware and put it in the public domain.

I think vernee have problem with drivers, i have tryed to fix it but im not developer if you have any idea for new firmware or update for this camera problem please let me know.

After using the phone for a couple of months;
It is slow. The mediatek chip is nowhere near flagship level and it shows.
And the camera is badly optimised - the photos are ok in very good light.
The best thing about this phone is it's amusing battery life.
The screen is also, surprisingly, very good.
In all other respects you must be willing to compromise.
I just got this phone and for the price, you cant beat it. But you are right the chipset is not as good as the snapdragon and thats the major difference here. I dont use the camera so it doesnt bother me.
But great value nevertheless.

Ulefone Power 3 or 3s has better camera optimisation, hardware is the same, so it is better choice in my opinion...
Yes, I think Verne is still too young to optimise Android for it's phones.
It's hardware is very good though - the X is very strong, has a beautiful screen and an unbeatable battery.
It has to do more work getting it's software lined up to it's hardware.
Having used this phone for a year, it's biggest problem is software.
The phone feels sluggish and jittery.
The battery remains excellent. On experimentation, the speed increases vastly when I switch: settings>duraspeed>off
with disable animation to 0 in devolper settings also same lag ?
regards
i will try aslo root the phone later when i have my order , presumably same way as my thread Root vernee M5 page 7

OnePlus 7T vs Google Pixel 4 XL

Currently having a Pixel 4 XL as a loaner. I can barely get through the day before I need to recharge the battery. But I do love the Android 10 software on this phone as well as the no compromise camera.
So how's battery on the 7T (with latest sw update) compared to the Pixel 4 XL?
On the Pixel 4 XL I sometimes have problems with the Bluetooth and my ear phones (Bose 700 ANC and Airpods Pro), anyone in here using either of them with the 7T?
How's the camera on the 7T compared with the 4 XL?
Usually get 5-6 hours sot and the camera is decent. Not up to pixel quality but trades punches with Samsung regarding camera. Overall a fantastic device.
I'm using mine with Sony XM3 with no issues over bluetooth. Considering there's no 3.5mm jack it's not like there's any other choice.
I Carnt speak for the OnePlus 7t as I have the 7t Pro McLaren edition but a friend of mine has a 7t and I have had a pixel 4xl and it is a better buy than the pixel 4xl, depending on each individual's use you should see 5-6+ out of it where a any pixel 4xl I was lucky to scrape 5.
7t Pro on the other hand I'm getting around 7-8.
As for the cameras I think it's swings and roundabouts as 7t has features the pixel don't and then the pixel can do better in certain areas..
I believe the 7t is a all-round device it has decent battery, great screen, snappy top performance, versatile camera, audio is decent. Battery is decent,
For me pixel 4 doesn't have a lot going for it especially for its price tag it's well overpriced.
My personal opinion I prefere oxygen os than stock pixel android and I believe many others agree too.
I think the 7t it's a great choice.
Here's my take coming from a Pixel 2xl-
First off the P 2 xl is a great phone and I was excited with all the hype to get the P 4 xl, but I didn't. After the reviews, I was hoping for 5G. I decided to get the OP 7T. It's less money than the P4xl and, for me, more comfortable to hold than the 2xl. The screen quality on the 7T is sick and faster than the 2 xl. Plus unlike Verizon OP offers a payment plan that is ok and you could get a new phone every year, if you want to. It feels like a quality phone. Lastly, OP sends you a starter case AND a screen protector. Thats's money saved.
Battery usage-
Weekdays- heaviest usage
I take the train (6:15am) for about an hour and I lose about 10% if the train is packed up. In that setting ,the phone tries really hard to get out for a usable signal. It gets so slow that any article I want I email to my self. During the day I'll use it for calls mainly because I'm in front of a computer. We don't have office phones so our cell phone are the source of vocal communication. I'll do some light surfing and texting through the day so when 4:30 comes around I'm at around 55-60%. Both train rides consist of podcast listening and surfing/ texting. By the time I get home I'll be at 45%. I don't plug it in, for the night, until around 11, which puts me at around 33%. So for my style the battery is fine.
Now go figure your phone's daily life and you'll see where the power goes. On weekends I'm not on the train so by the time I go to bed I'm probably at 45-55%
I came from the pixel 4 and was also plagued by bad battery (worse than the 3 honestly)
The 7t is a nice compromise until Google gets their **** together and makes a phone that's actually worth the outrageous price tag.
Ufs 3.0
3300+ mah
Wide angle camera
If the pixel 5 doesn't have this I'll be buying the OnePlus 8t lol

I loved my Pixel 2XL but opted for the 7T over the 4XL. The camera on the Pixels is killer, especially considering it's using a 2016 sensor. Google's choices for hardware is a bit of a enigma lately .. the Nexus line used to be a budget friendly near-flagship phone with features designed to move Android forward (e.g. they were ahead of their time). The only reason it didn't sell like hotcakes from the killer price/value is the availability/marketing wasn't strong like other brands - more niche.
They fixed that with the Pixel line but now lag behind in other areas .. the fact their flagship doesn't even win the category they put the most effort in shows they're not really trying .. other manufacturers have moved on to newer sensors to compete (and surpass), yet Google is sticking with software tweaks gen after gen on the same sensor. You do that on budget phones, not flagships. I think Google could probably do killer work software wise using the 48mp (2018) sensor in the 7T with improved optics because of the ability to get more pixel information for their algorithms before downsizing to 12mp.
Their shift to compete against Apple / Samsung on the flagship side has led them to be in a gray area where the value/price is now flipped ... I wouldn't consider them a good value. They don't do enough to compete against the flagships, yet they're commanding flagship pricing (heck, the 4 still has the same camera sensor and RAM as the prior 2 gens). The 'A' variant seems to be the better value from them.
---
To answer OP's Q .. in my tests, the OnePlus 7T camera holds up to my Pixel 2XL (I know, not the 4XL). It seems to lack some sharpness and vibrance in the color, but that can be fixed in software if I really need.
For battery life, you can tweak the system if rooted using apps like LSpeed .. I did this on my 2XL and got around 7.5hrs SOT (less after 2 years because if battery aging). Haven't used the 7T enough to know, but I'd assume it'll however around 6-7 with similar tweaks.
The one major downside about the 7T is that there's very little development life compared others.

hi, i have switched from s21u(exy) and battery on p6 pro is amazing comparing to samsung(9h+ p6 pro / 6h s21u - same usage)(p6pro 42h/one charge / s21u/28h) . not only battery, i like the mini rounded corners of p6 pro, software is good enough(its new), will be better after fex fixes.
Thanks so would you say it's a good choice over the s21 ultra

yeah, right now best choice, i am selling my s21u
Thanks might get it ordered today and pass down the s21 ultra to the lad
After the Pixel 1 stopped getting updates two years ago, my wife and I finally upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 512 GB model, because for the first couple of years after the Pixel 1, I was waiting to buy another Pixel until they came out with a 256 GB model, and then by the time they did, I needed a 512 GB model so I still waited.
The Note 10+ hardware is great. I hate the software. I use my personal phone for my work too, my work uses Google for everything, and apparently, it's common with Samsung devices that they have sporadic syncing of GMail and Chat/Hangouts. When I told my brother about the problem I was having (and I did try deep-diving settings about not optimizing for battery usage, and not killing in the background, and even factory reset), my brother, who had only just bought his family their first smartphones maybe 4 years ago and go the Galaxy S9+, said that he assumed that's just the way Android is. It's not. I never encountered such bad GMail and chat syncing and notification behavior on any other phone.
For chat-type notifications, it was hit and miss whether I would receive timely ones. I could never narrow down what made the difference. For GMail, sometimes I wouldn't get a notification of an email until 45 minutes to even 2 hours later. Multi-tasking on the work computer, sometimes I wouldn't look at my GMail browser tab for long periods of time, and my boss likes to use chat quite often too. Half the time, I did happen to see the email in the browser tab, read it, and even deleted it (for non-critical things), and then later on my Samsung would let me know I have that "new" email. I already saw it and deleted it! Crazy.
There were other things Samsung gimped compared to other phones (Do Not Disturb...), and it also managed to duplicate all my contacts in a way that they're not recognized as duplicates so they can't be automatically de-duped.
Thankfully, back on the P6P 512 GB bandwagon, I no longer have those issues, and we quickly sold our Note 10+'s. So my answer is I'd trade any Samsung for a Pixel. Loved the Samsung hardware, but the software just doesn't cut it for me. The only thing I miss from the Note is the stylus from time to time, which would be handy for Pixel's magic eraser when you have to really fine-tune some erasing.
Oh yeah - I haven't had any issues with my battery life in the month I've had the phone. For the last five years, I never quick charge any phone, I only charge once the phone gets down to 25%, and I take the phone off the charger at 75%. I never charge overnight. The Pixel 6/Pro have Adaptive Charge to help battery life, but my 25-75% battery range lasts me 24 hours normally anyway. I don't own any quick chargers except my original Pixel 1 charger, and I don't use it.

If multiple days of battery life is a bad thing, or the camera is too good for you.... you might want to stick with the samdung.

I did the same thing, and battery is good after about a week or two. You have to give the adaptive battery time to learn your habits. Not sure where you heard the camera is bad. That's the best part of the phone.

There are 10 billion options for capacitive screen pokey things on Amazon. I can't tell you which ones I have, because I can't read the font they used to identify themselves, but works pretty good.
Owning currently both devices here I can maybe share a few thoughts, subjective of course as many of those base on what I like/dislike:
Pro S21 Ultra:
+ build quality
+ display quality
+ overall maturity of the software
+ better standby drain
Pro Pixel 6 Pro:
+ genuine, clean Android with less bloat
+ snappier UI
+ active battery life
+ Camera: much lower noise and much better dynamic range in low light
+ Camera: less heavy-handed noise-reduction/resharpening
+ (slightly) less weight
+ much more development friendly (no hassle bootloader unlock without lost warranty, no Knox.....)
All in all I like both phones, what makes me moving back to the S21 Ultra (or maybe again Mi 11U) is memory - sadly Google only sells the P6P with max 256GB in Germany which I find a bit too small for my purpose.....
And a few more words on the camera: Samsung has its own way in image processing and in many cases this leads to loss of details in grass/leaves/.... which I dislike. The Pixel 6 Pro gives much better results here, as with many indoor shots specifically of pets/kids.... So overall I much prefer the Pixel camera, this doesn't mean the Samsung camera is bad, though - it isn't !
The only thing I like about my s21 ultra is the display screen. Other than that, 6 pro tops it off. (The 6 pro is on par with the iPhone 13 max's camera btw) With the exception of the video quality of course. The iPhone is still the king for shooting high quality videos.
I have both. These are the most notable differences that I have noticed in using both extensively over a few weeks.
Everything else not-mentioned seems the same/equivalent between the two devices.
Battery; The Samsung has better battery life out of the box, hands down. I regularly saw 7hour screen time and easily made it 24 hours or more on a single charge. The P6P gets about 4-5hours screen time and only about 20-22hours on a charge.
Can only hope the P6P gets better with updates. I returned my first P6P because I thought something was wrong with it. Unfortunately, the second one is the same. It's bad (for some people, but apparently not everyone).
Temperature; You have to try really hard to make the Samsung work up a sweat. The P6P seems to get warm at random times without much going on (browsing forums, for example). Then other times when you would expect it to get warm (watching videos), it runs perfectly cool. Very strange.
Camera; There's nothing better or easier than the P6P when trying to produce consistent great quality pictures. Despite superior hardware in the Samsung S21 Ultra, overall picture results are handicapped due to inferior software/processing, especially in portrait mode. It has gotten better with updates, but still gets beat handily by P6P.
Size and Weight; The P6P is more hand/pocket friendly. It is noticeably thinner and lighter than the S21 Ultra, making it more comfortable in the pockets that I carry it in (back pocket or front shirt pocket). The S21 Ultra feels like a small cinder block in the pocket compare to the P6P.
Charging; Despite better technical sheet specs for the P6P, it charges inconsistently and slower than the S21 Ultra. It's not by a small margin either, P6P takes about 2x longer.
It also tends to get warm to the point of thorttling during charging. The S21 Ultra is consistent, and charges very fast and doesnt get very warm (certainly never throttles).
Software; I suppose this could be preference. If you like the Samsung software look and feel, then it's perfectly fine. It really runs almost flawlessly compared to older TouchWiz crap from Samsung. I prefer the look and feel of pure android from Google.

I think a lot of what you're putting down as negatives against P6P comes down to gservices and broken "pixel features". I'm running pure (google free) AOSP on mine. I pulled it off the charger this morning at 5:30 (7.5 hours ago). Currently have 1.5 hr screen on time and the battery is at 92%, and so far the battery gauge appears to be pretty linear. I've also NOT noticed ANY substantial heating up. It runs pretty cool consistently -- note that heat comes from the battery, so it makes sense.
Also, there is no magic battery BS in AOSP.
I upgraded from a Note 20 Ultra 512Gb and the battery on my P6P is phenomenal compared to the Note 20. There have been issues for some on the P6P but I've been using my 512Gb unlocked variant with no issue at all. Just make sure you set your P6P from scratch and don't transfer data from your S21 Ultra. Also the standby drain is the best I've ever had, took it off the charger at 9PM at 100% and at 8:30 the next morning was at 99%. Not everyone is having the same results that I have.
I had both for a while. S21 ultra for the last 9 months. Tested them side by side . I don't think the pixel is better than the s21 in any single way, they are actually so similar. I prefer the maturer Samsung email and calendar software but that's subjective. The biggest difference, which matters for me was that the pixel has more global 5g and LTE bands than the s21. I used Nova and mimicked the s21 completely. Really couldn't tell the difference except screen better on s21 IMHO.
if I didn't already own the s21 I would have bought the pixel but because they are so similar and it isn't an upgrade but more a move to the side, the change didn't make sense.
Display, build quality, signal quality and probably smoothness are all better on the s21U. However I prefer the camera on the P6P and also Pixel Android to OneUI. The S21U is a solid, well built device and I don't think the P6P is an upgrade, if anything it's a slight downgrade.
Thanks for all the replys I'm still on the fence at the minute lol,can I root the pixel 6 pro and have no problems like knox, drm keys etc like other devices have? And if ibdecude to want to unroot can it be returned back to totally factory as if it was never rooted? I haven't rooted for years and miss been able to uninstall apps etc and is viper4android still going strong or is there another app in its place thanks
Stick with the S21 Ultra. I went from a Note 20 Ultra to the Pixel 6 Pro. I love the camera, the better speakers, cleaner software experience, but overall it doesn't feel like an upgrade. The 5G reception is slightly worse, Android 12 has lots of quirks, charging speeds are much slower, and customization is currently very limited. It's possible that it will improve with updates and custom ROMs but its current state is underwhelming. To be honest, I'm already looking forward to the S22 Ultra.

Yep, no bad sides to rooting or later unrooting at all, just jump through some well established hoops as far as banking apps are concerned. It didn't bother me and it was the first time I ever did what I needed for safety net and banking apps to not know I'm rooted. No one can tell you ever had it rooted if you re-lock the bootloader after restoring to 100% stock and then factory reset, which will re-disable the OEM unlock option on Developer Options.
You just never can automatically update to each months OTA, have to follow the proper manual procedure to update and stay rooted. I did it every month for over three years that I had the Pixel 1.
If you value the camera, root and stock Android then get the Pixel. If you don't value those then stick with the S21U. I came from the S21U so I can honestly tell you that the S21U is definitely a better all around device but the fact that I can root really made my decision easier to go with the Pixel. No, the Pixel isn't any smoother than the S21U as I've had both; they are pretty much the same in the smoothness department. Anyone who disagrees is lying to themselves.
