After Oreo update, what happened to the Samsung message app badge? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

I originally asked this question in the wrong forum.
After the Oreo update, my Samsung message app no longer has a number badge showing the number of messages that are there.
I do get the message sound notification, the edge notification, and the notification at the top.
Anyone come across this and know how to fix it?

Oreo on this phone is garbage. I hate my Note 8 now.

[Q] Annoying "application stopped working" pop-up message. How to turn it off?

[Q] Annoying "application stopped working" pop-up message. How to turn it off?
I'm on 4.0.2 stock and the app that stopped working was Taptu (RSS-reader).
I have set the widgets of the app to update every 2 hours and I figured the reason I got the message was that it was trying to update, but could not for some reason. I went into the app and tried multiple times, getting some of my feeds at a time, until it all worked.
Oh well, but my problem was that ICS gave me this annoying pop-up message that the application has stopped working. I pressed "OK" but it came up 3 times before I went into the app to check. I guess it was trying to update all those times.
The problem was that damn spammy pop-up message ICS gave me. I was in the middle of taking pictures.
I don't want those pop-up messages at all, is there any way to turn them off? I couldn't find a box to tick/untick in settings.
if an app is crap, and it seems is it, uninstall it
why u want keep an app that crash all the time?
That was not my question, but you're right none-the-less.
My point was that I don't want that message. Every app can stop working / FC or whatever, it happens, especially on a new platform.
I just don't want to get those pop-up messages from the system, in the middle of doing something else, and would like to turn the messages off.
i understood ur question, but i don't think u can disable that message..maybe in a future custom rom it will be possible
anyway, im using my gn from 2 months on the stock rom, and i saw that message very few times, usually on a new installed app, so soon uninstallet because it was not working..and never when an app was in background..a working app should work..none of my actual apps/games (about 80, maybe not too much anyway) crash
You're right about not having to live with a badly working app, but when it's working Taptu is very nice.
I love the ICS widget where you can go through stories like cards, the same way the photo-album works I think.
I'll keep an eye on it in the future and maybe have to search for a replacement.
But any app can FC / stop working, I don't want that pop-up message ever. I could live with it being a notification message, but that pop-up sure is intrusive.

[Q] Whatsapp message preview

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I installed a new Android version 4.2.2 (4.19.707.3) and after that I cannot disable whatsapp messages preview.
Before update whatsapp worked like this, one message in notification bar and I would got message preview, but if two or more messages where in
notification bar there would be no previews like now, there would be only indications how many messages i have.
Any help?
Thanks
PS.
One more thing (sorry for offtopic), wifi is disaster after update, ok I know that there are problems with the antenna on htc one x but nevertheless now for me wifi signal is ten times worse than before. Yesterday before update in same spot signal was full and now is very poor.
Why wouldn't you want previews of the messages you have?
You can try resizing the notification by sliding from the bottom of the notification to the top of the notification with 2 fingers.
Then you'll only have the notification saying:
WhatsApp
7 messages in 2 chats
Click to collapse
Thanks for answer

Because I dont like if I have for example 15 messages in notification bar, that all 15 is shown
I just want like before only indication of 15 messages.

Resizing works only one time, it's not permanent.
Where is the problem?
Why this new 4.2.2 update does not allow the previous way of messages display?
Thanks
Are you certain this isn't a feature implemented by Whatsapp itself? I recall having it not display previews and after I updated Whatsapp it did.
I'm sure that the problem isn't in whatsapp.
Yesterday before updating sw to 4.2.2 version whatsapp worked fine.
Version of whatsapp is 2.11.86. and friend has the same version with android 4.1
and there are no messages previews.

Not Getting Notifications in Status Bar

Hi, I've just bought a Note 2 and loving it so far, but am having a couple of problems. I sort of asked a similar question in the Tigra rom thread but the dev said things should be sorted in the next release (but they weren't) and since then I've realised this is on all the 4.3 roms I've tried, not just Tigra.
I am able to receive email and sms notifications in the status bar but I'm not getting any Facebook or Twitter notifications at all. Nothing. I've made sure the 'receive notifications' box is ticked under the Applications menu, and made sure notifications are set from within the app but still nothing.
I noticed SNS.apk always force closes in every rom, could this be why?
Or is it something to do with this Knox thing that everyone is complaining about? I disabled Knox notifications because it seemed to be blocking everything. Is this what could be causing it?
Thanks.

nexus 5x ringtone and notification tone not coming

i have bought nexus 5x 3 months back before android 7.0 update my phone was working fine not facing any issue. but after upgrading to 7.0 my phone faces an issue that some time ringtone and any notification sound or tone won't come, Vibration is working fine. I hav to restart my phone every time to resolve this issue. Now is this due to some bug or due to latest upgrade...please help...what can be cone to resolve this.
Same here ... I cant find solution ....
Okay so my sister has the same phone as me which is the nexus 5x, yesterday she told me that she won't get notification sounds when she received texts and I took her phone and looked around. What I found was that for some contacts in the messenger, when you go to 'people and option' for a specific contact and try to change the notification tone for that contact, I saw that it was set to 'default notification tone' and when I clicked on it, it had no sound. So I switched it to a different one like 'Ariel' and then I texted her phone and she got a notification with sound. Try this, that just might fix it for you. It did for her, although I didn't restart her phone or anything to try to fix it that way.

Text message notifications disappearing

For the last week or so I've noticed that when I get a text, I get the preview pop up of the text, and then it disappears - along with the notification of the text. It will either disappear immediately or soon after. Sometimes if I have multiple text notifications - and I touch one - the rest will disappear. It also removes the 'unread' badge count on my Nova Launcher bar. This has never happened before, and I'm unsure what could be happening now to cause it. I normally use Textra, but I switched to Android Messages to see if it was an app error but the same thing continued.
I was aware of the Oreo issue where text messages weren't being received, but I'm definitely receiving them. I'm on a Pixel 2 XL now, but this was happening with my Pixel XL last week also. I've tried turning off the battery optimization in case it was acting funky, but that hasn't changed anything. Any ideas?
I am having the same issue. I'm on a Verizon Pixel 2 XL. I get a text, the notification starts to play and then cuts off, not showing an unread notification. I'm getting the text, if I go into Textra it shows the new message, its just marked as read.
Coincidentally, I'm also having an occasional issue where my screen won't wake up and I have to reboot the phone to get the screen to turn back on. Haven't seen anyone having that issue yet either.
I have noticed the same thing on my Nexus 6. I haven't noticed an update to the messages app that corresponds to when this started, but the android wear app updated around the same time, so I was curious if it had something to do with that.

I just uninstalled the wear app and my notifications don't disappear any more. Unfortunately, I can't use my watch now
Messages notifications are disappearing on my Pixel 2 (non-XL) also. Sometimes they disappear so quickly that I don't even get the partial sound, just a short vibration from the phone.
I also have a Wear device. Haven't tried removing the Wear app, because all other notifications are working correctly, and I depend on them much more than the occasional text I receive these days.
I'm getting this on my Galaxy S8 as well; I was finally able to track this back to the Android Wear app, but as I haven't told it to silence notifications on my phone when connected to my watch, I'm not sure exactly what is causing this bug...

I just noticed that I'm having this problem as well after a few people asked me why I hadn't responded to their texts. I'm sure this used to work fine. Maybe it was broken in a recent update of messages?
Good catch tracking it to Wear. I have figured out the following:
If the watch is on, the text notification gets "eaten up" by the watch and does not show on the phone
If the watch is off, the notification does remain on the phone
If the watch is on but I set it to ignore the "Messages" app notifications, the message shows on the phone
This is pretty annoying as I do like getting notifications on the watch, but of course I don't want them to disappear from the phone. It seems like for the moment, I have to choose between one device or the other.
I opened a bug report at https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70808796
So I actually think I may have figured out what's happening on my end but still don't know exactly why... I had AT&T NumberSync enabled for my LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, and after disabling that all my text notifications persist like they used to; basically my watch now functions tethered to my phone through a traditional Android Wear connection and will only get notifications once "passed on" from my phone, versus catching the texts via the AT&T network directly with NumberSync.

I have the issue on Nexus 6 and Android wear also. Any solutions to keep both going?
In the Wear app on the phone check to see if "Silence phone while wearing watch" is enabled.

You are a genius! Thanks. This solved my problem (although I think the underlying issue might be different since you are on AT&T).
The winning combo for me (I'm using T-Mobile with "DIGITS with Paired Data") is:
On the watch, settings --> connectivity --> cellular --> advanced --> watch shares number with phone --> calls: on, text messages: off
On the watch, settings --> apps & notifications --> app notifications --> show all --> messages --> off
Since TMo already handles having the watch SIM share my main SIM's number on the network side, there's no need to tell the watch about this. I've confirmed that the following work:
Incoming texts appear (and stay in the notifications) on the phone and watch
I can reply to texts from either device and the "from" number is correct (my main number)
I do not get duplicate notifications on the watch (the watch's messages app's notifications are disabled)
I can place a call from the watch and the correct "from" number appears on caller ID
I can receive a call placed to my main number on either the phone or the watch
