OnePlus 5T versus Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 camera quality - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Questions & Answers

Hello,
I was wondering which of these 2 phones has the better camera quality. I've read many bad things about the OnePlus 5T's camera but it being a "flagship" should mean that the camera should at least be better than the camera on a budget phone.
What do you think? The camera on the Xiaomi seems to be really good when you look at the reviews.
Thanks.

Watch videos on YouTube, the note 5 pro is pretty poor , especially video , but it's a 3rd of the price

[Q] Zenfone 2 camera? Owner and users, please share opinions and comparisons.

The Zenfone 2 releases in my country tomorrow, and I'm almost set on it being my next phone. Before I found out about the ZF2, my choice was going to be the OnePlus One.
I love the specs of the Zenfone 2 (who doesn't), but one aspect of the phone that's been getting mixed reception so far is the camera. While ASUS pimped the camera as one of the phone's greatest assets at CES, a couple of reviews/comparisons I've seen online describe a more disappointing (though not 'bad') camera on the phone, particularly in comparison to some of its competition.
eg. two articles from Indian tech magazine Digit, both commenting about the disappointing camera (and battery life) on the Zenfone 2.
http://www.digit.in/mobile-phones/asus-zenfone-2-ze551ml-4gb-ram-32gb-review-25861.html
http://www.digit.in/slideshows/asus-zenfone-2-performance-comparison-9.html
On the other hand, this GSMArena article has a better opinion of the camera.
http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_series_handson-review-1234p4.php
What do the Zenfone 2 owners and users here think about the camera on their phones? Comparisons to the Zenfone 2's main competitors (OnePlus One and Xiaomi MI4) are welcome.

what?
After reading the GSMArena review and the accompanying raw, untouched 1080p video samples they uploaded, I'm now quite worried about the quality of the video recording on the Zenfone 2. This is somewhat important to me, because I'm a musician and would want to record rehearsal and practice clips quite often, at a 'good' quality to upload online.
The GSMArena 1080p sample looked quite bad, IMO.
http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_ze551ml-review-1240p8.php
"The output quality is nothing like you'd expect from a 1080p video and the level of detail is more or less comparable to 480p. The camera adjusts exposure at the slightest change of scenery and the resulting videos come out a bit choppy. Colors are good, but dynamic range is rather limited."
EDIT:
Just saw these two, in GSMArena's video comparison tool. This looks rather horrid, unfortunately.

Zenfone 2 camera quality
The Zenfone 2's 13-Megapixel camera zooming quality is not impressive, but the camera works best without zoom, its video recording is good. I will give its camera 4 stars out of 5 stars.

3 or 3T?

At specs the 3T is slightly better (cpu, front camera, battery) is there any difference in battery life?
Any bugs?
Any rear camera difference? Or its just the same? (sew somewhere maybe at gsmarena photo compare, that the 3T the pictures more blurry and noisy then regular 3)
Few examples from gsmarena, it looks like the 3T is noisy, and even much more at low light
The ISO is 100 (vs 125 on 3) but it should be more smooth and sharp.
Why is the camera shots are that different?

They are essentially same hardware (on the rear cam)so the difference is in software only which will make its way to 3. One thing that 3t has eis2.0 but I will affect more in videos
3T is better
People say that OnePlus stop the sale of 3. If that's true 3t it's better..
They may bring it back... But oneplus never has enough stock.. Always running out or low. I had to wait 3 weeks for mine but camera didn't work so I had to send in for rma and then wait two weeks to get new one... Long story short, oneplus may sell 3.. Just like oneplus 2 was still selling till this year

Would you recommend buying Mi 5S?

I'm currently using Mi 5S Plus which I like a lot. However, it would be nice to have secondary phone with a smaller footprint and a better rear camera (for stills). Do you guys think it is worth spending $300 on Mi 5S? Is the camera a great improvement over 5S Plus? I find the camera on 5S Plus to be disappointing (other than that, I love this phone).

I guess if you already have a Mi 5s Plus, there's no point in getting this since it's very similar, despite one or 2 things

Why not try this Camera mod?

I'm not 100% satisfied with the camera quality, compared to my old Sony Xperia Z1c. I do hope that this will be a little improved with the next global image release. I tend to get not fully sharp images while making pictures of text, as if in the last moment the camera decides to make them a little soft.

Or you decide to not hold the camera still. It is called camera shake. Try it in full sunlight to force the camera to use a fast shutter speed and then check the sharpness. I bet it is sharp as hell.
My camera makes very good pictures. it is miles ahead of my old Nexus 6p camera.
Trust me, I hold it very still

if xiaomi share the kernel sources of this phone,i recomend you buy this! but no diffrent between mi5s plus and mi5s.both of them has the same hardware.
I was incredibly annoyed with the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that had 20% hit rate and awkward body shape on mi5s which has buttons almost on the back of the phone, and the camera on mi5s plus. Also the lack of Nougat and Google assistant on both.
Now I have zte axon 7.

The fingerprint hit rate was bad on my Note 5 but not 20%. I just learned to place my finger on the same area/angle and my hit rate went up.
However, if it was raining and some moisture was on the sensor, it would not work well again.
I just think fingerprint technology is still ways away. You don't want to have any false positives so they lean on not able to unlock.
Actually there is a clear quality difference between the "traditional" scanner on my Redmi 4 Pro and the ultra sonic one on my Mi 5s. The hit rate on my Redmi 4 is nearly 100% (although I don't use the phone every day and can't exactly give numbers), but it is more reliable then on my 5s. I don't know though if it's easier to fake the finger on the Redmi than on the 5s.

I really like the mi5s, but take into account that mine is rooted, I disabled MIUI (memory) optimization, set most of my frequently used apps to be locked so they load near instantly when multitasking etc.
The camera by the way is absolutely excellent - I'm a hobbyist photographer for many years (using 'traditional' real cameras) and this is the first smartphone I've had that is good enough for me to not take my other 'real' camera with me as the photos from the mi5s are really that good. It has a very good optimization of focus accuracy and speed, a pretty good trade off between denoising and sharpening, the white balance is very accurate and the resulting images are sharp consistently across the image, from center to corners.
I'm currently using the EU ROM (7.3.30) and am very happy with the phone.
But, having flashed the lineageOS14.1 unofficial ROM (from April 2017, I d/l it yesterday), I can say that while the mi5s is very fast and all, it can certainly feel snappier in performance when using a more traditional ROM (I tried both lineageOS 14.1 and resurrection remix, both unofficial).
I am sticking with the MIUI rom because the stock camera app is much more reliable for consistently well balanced (white balance, sharpening, and denoising) images with fast focusing, much more than any 3rd party app I tried (manual camera, open camera, google camera (which is supposedly similar to the app used on the Google Pixel), a better camera...).
Hope this helps.
This is the best phone i have so far next to LG G3
Battery really good and much better compared to snapdragon 625 devices
And performances much better than snapdragon 820
Would recommended!

I've owned this phone for 2 weeks now. I purchased it for £211 so it is very cheap compared to most other flagships on the market. With the price in mind, it's definitely a great bang for your buck phone.
However, be mindful that the camera is bad (good hardware but terrible software) which result in out of focus photos and the fingerprint scanner is fairly slow. I'm sure a few people will chime in to say that the camera is the best they've ever used but you will ready of many, many more instances of people with a negative experience. The front facing camera is absolutely terrible and every single photo I've taken has been out of focus. Before people criticise my photography ability, I am a hobbyist photographer with a 50D and several L series lenses so I know how to take a decent photo.
So anyway, some sacrifices were made given the price tag so if you're ok with those shortcomings then you should definitely buy it.

S20U have big software problem?

Hi to all
I watch so many YT videos about camera comparison and see so many bad things about S20U camera. Is that because still camera software in beta or it is just what S20U is?
I watch S20U vs:
- Note 10 Plus,
- Huawei P40 Pro,
- Xiaomo Mi10,
- Iphone 11 Pro
And yes S20U have new big camera sensor but still they are no big improvements in night shoot's, astophotography, zoom, night videos, portret and etc.. And every phone have better camera in most situation. Whats wrong with S20U? Will Samsung fix this with software updates?
All the best
Not quite sure how you think most phones have a better camera but from someone who ACTUALLY has an S20U I can tell you this camera is fantastic. And with every update will continue to get better and better.
Feel free to not purchase it though. It isn't for everyone.

Come on now. You know that's not exactly true. This phone has pretty serious camera issues, from poor optics to focus problems, etc. It's not a terrible camera, but it is not worth the price tag. Samsung has to do a lot more work on the software side to make it better. I've had the phone since launch and while updates did improve things, it still falls short compared to other flagships. Both iPhone 11 Pro and Pixel 4 take better photos (I have those phones too), as does Note 10+ in most cases (I have it too for comparison). With that said, it is possible to take good photos with the S20 Ultra, so it's not all bad.
If anyone bought the Ultra Solely for the camera then that was Dumbassville! Other than the camera however The 120hz screen rocks, 5g works good depending on your coverage area. It's also a speedy phone. At least my US Unlocked 512gb version is. But if your buying the phone expecting a mobile photography studio like Samsung is hyping in their ads you can forget that BS now because that's what it is. Just plain BS! That is not to say the cameras can't take good pictures or the software won't get better. It just means if your expecting a DSLR or Wonder Miracle camera on a phone it ain't happening. There is a reason those $10,000 DSLR lenses take great night time photos and cost so much. You will never achieve that quality on a phone camera.
I'm one of the few people who buys phone not for the camera but making receiving calls, YouTube media consumption social networking camera is bottom of the list.
I think the camera and video is brilliant and better then most flagship. Its good for an average consumer use for expert photographers not to sure as don't know enough. The good thing is most of us aren't experts.
I prefer the s20 plus as its slimmer and has less protruding camera. Its better buy then huawei as g services are missing and better software and screen. Better then oppo due to mainly software and less curved screen. Oppo could have been my choice were it not for the curved screen. I hate that, most overrated and wasted tech.
Thats my rant and impression of Samsung s20.

That would make more sense than paying 17% more for a 6% larger screen. The battery is also 11% larger, but the plus is also lighter and thinner, especially at the camera bump. The cameras are the most significant difference between the two, it would only make sense for that to be the main motivating factor in paying the premium (especially considering the plus is tending to get marked down more).

The camera is literally the one reason to go for the Ultra vs. the Plus. Screen and battery size difference are insignificant in this decision, so no, Samsung does need to step up and make the Ultra worthy of its name. With that said, I am not expecting DSLR quality. I have a 5D Mark IV and some very high end lenses and know the difference. However, matching or beating the Pixel 4 series or the iPhone 11 Pro shouldn't be a problem for the camera setup on the Ultra, except Samsung botched the implementation badly.

Agree with you.
Pay 1400$ for S20U
- BATTERY not good than 11 pro max or oppo find x2 or p40 pro
- Exynos 990 so bad ( ex 990 < kirin 990 < sd 865)
- Camera can not take the moment well as iphone or other phone. Can't focus well, but photo and video day light is ok.
- screen ok but oppo find x2 pro's screen are better
Sorry for my bad english.

I'm honestly a little worried about the SuperSaf camera review. It seems like this may even be a step back from the 5? I didn't have one, but I have a Oneplus 8 Pro and some of these look worse than what I have. Any thoughts?

Seeing the same thing on Mrwhosetheboss. Majorly disappointing.
what videos are you guys watching?
The 6p seems to hold up well with the iPhone 13pro max
Short Circuit channel showing how dark the screen is at max brightness compared to the iphone 13 (which I have no interest in), also doesn't look good to me. The speakers also sound way worse it seems. The more I see of this the more this feels like the pro should have started at $700 and not $900. I ordered from best Buy and I can still cancel it, but I don't know what to do.
I don't know about you, but for me personally, Pixel 6 Pro picture quality looks quite good. I'm pretty sure it'll be better than what I currently have i.e. Pixel 3. It still takes good picture.
SuperSaf style camera comparison.

I don't know, almost every review I've read or watched so far place the 6 Pro above the S21 Ultra AND the iphone 13 Pro.
We'll see for ourselves soon enough though.
Watching the Android Central review now and they are using the telephoto as the macro lens and it actually looks really good, so maybe that's why there is no dedicated macro camera. I'm going to watch as many as I can as it seems different people are using this phone in different ways. The bottom line on the video seems to be not great though regardless of who is reviewing it.
Also more confirmation the screen isn't bright enough outside.
For info - from the BBC website. This is about Magic Eraser, de-Blurring and more.

There aren't any. I watched 6 or 7 videos all the way through. At best the Pixel is on par with the iphone in picture, worse in some areas, better in others, and objectively worse across the board in video.
Considering I will never own an iphone I'm more interested in how it compares to my OP8 pro, which I doubt I'll find a video on.
Also keep in mind Google is comparing to a mid range budget phone in the 5....so this "jump" is a jump for THAT phone, not compared to others in a lot of cases.
9 to 5 Google review. They like it.
This I like the best when it comes to Pixel 6 review. It seems like most of the reviewer missed the macro capability of Pixel 6 Pro zoom lens. Which IMO looks way better than iPhone 13 Pro/Max.

shame Google missed the boat on macro mode not being as good as Samsung or Apple! I use macro more then portrait mode
