Slowly, day by day, incall volume decreased.
I compared mi mi6 with a newer one, a friend's MI6, and I found out that my top speaker grid is completely clogged with dust and dirt... I tried to clean that with a needle and a vacoon, it worked, but after some hours the volume decreased another time...
How about you? Are you facing a similar problem? How you solved? Or how would you solve?
P.s.: Top speaker also have very little holes, is pretty difficult to clean.

Mi6 is almost water resistang BUT NOT THE USB PORT
So basically you can clean it with water or alcohol. Be careful with pointy objects.

I don't really suggest any liquids other than ones made specifically for electronics. Alcohol is a good one or some water with its charge removed (forgot the name). The Mi 6 has no water resistance rating. They just say it has some sealing against water so take the advice with a pinch of salt. Sony made all their phones "water resistant" and later recalled the claims :/
I cleaned some small fibers from my ear speaker using bluetac gently pressed against it. GENTLY!!!
You can clean the bottom speaker with a pin gently around the very outer part.
Don't put the pin actually inside or it will get damaged. Just the outside parts.
Its not too bad to clean luckily. Not ideal that there are places for dirt to build up but many phones have this issue

the problem is the blessed speaker, it seems to be clogged with dirt or I really do not know what happens.
I cleaned it with a contact cleaner for electric circuits and then with a suction vacuum for the outside ... and I really improved a lot, but I do not stay 100% as when I was new, a pity I am disappointed by this Mi6, apparently they are equipment with failures factory.

Hi, with a toothbrush and contact cleaner (electronic) on the speaker call, with circular movements I cleaned it and now if it sounds much better, I can say 100%, I noticed when I cleaned the speaker, there were some white particles, I guess that had saturated, obstructed in its entirety the output of the sound, even until the stereo mode is better heard in that front speaker .. greetings and luck!

I had to replace the screen and digitiser on my TP2 after shutting it in the boot of a car (clever huh?). I accomplished the swap surprisingly easily after buying a pre-built screen and digitiser from Hong Kong for about £25. It even came with a spudger to help me take it apart I followed a few guides, including this iFixit one, which greatly helped.
Frustratingly though after putting it all back together and making a test call, the earpiece rattles during calls. Not a lot, but enough to make me want to fix it; applying gentle pressure to a certain top part of the bezel reduces the rattle a little bit but I've taken it apart three times and taped up various sections now to see if stops the problem. Unfortunately, no such luck.
Is the earpiece rattle something to do with inadequate insulation (or the ribbon cable running down the back of the screen)? Everything's sandwiched in pretty tight and I've reapplied electrical tape to what I think are the key areas. I've also padded the top area where the earpiece comes through the metal mesh and I've stuck the mesh down with doublesided tape so it can't move about. The problem persists though...
Everything else works fine, and the speaker also works perfectly with no vibrations or rattles (even though I also took that bit apart to inspect it) so I can't figure out why just the earpiece is rattling. Anybody taken their Touch Pro2 apart, had the same problem and solved it?
I have torn apart probably 3-4 TP2 screens and never had anything rattle. Did you lose a screw in there by chance? That is the only thing that would be small enough to rattle in there I think.
The only other thing I could thing that it might be is a bad connection to the vibrator motor. Maybe you have the little ribbon cable pinched or a bit off the socket it fits in.
A small issue thats bugging me is that the top speaker grill gets easily clogged up when using the phone. as they are so small to even clean correctly and already mines looking horrible and dirty but no way to get into the grills to pick it clean or blow it out.
a fine needed however slow and sometimes painful as the needle needs to be so small you end up hurting your thumb.

ive read compressed air may not work if it cant blow it up due to the size.
The only thing i can think of would be something like cyber clean putty so has anyone got some and does it work?

Worth trying a Dyson vacuum or the likes
I have a normal Dyson but and tried it but doesnt seem strong enough to get it out the gril. hair products probally didnt help the grill
I have an Axon 7 and I heard using a clean toothbrush to clean the speakers helps. Maybe the same can be done on the Razer phone
I have used a strong magnet to get metal and a kneaded eraser to get some of the rest. I would not use compressed air, blowing into the speakers may ruin it.
Flicking the holes with a needle a few times and then a very soft tooth brush has worked good enough nice to have a pair of awesome speakers again
Try getting a small bristles paint brush guys, I've had front firing speakers on phones since the HTC One M7 and it works so well

Thanks for the tip, got it looking a lot cleaner now with a normal tooth brush but had to apply a little more pressure and cover screen just to prevent any damage
Another method i found useful is using those sticky gel to pick up the dirt, works for me, call Gulu cleaner gel, pick them up from amazon real cheapie

My Xiaomi Mi 6 call volume has gradually decreased to very low. Call volume during other apps like whatsapp and IMO is acceptable but direct phone calls are almost impossible to hear. Current ROM version is 9.5.8 stable.
Any fixes/leads will be highly appreciated.

I have the solution. And its ****ing simple.
Clean the earpiece with needle and toothbrush.
I also had the same problem, i tried every app, i also tried changing values in mixer_path xml. Nothing worked.
Until i came by a post in the official xiaomi forum.
I was floored. It worked.
The thing is, mi6 earpiece has a a grill with very fine holes. Dust easily blocks the grill.
Poke the grill with needle, clean the grill's perimiter with the needle, then brush it. You can even use a damp cloth to attract the dust. Voila, sound is loud again.
I know your pain, and now the pain is gone. Lol..

Worked for me as well! cleaned the grill with a needle. noticed that the grill holes were completly closed by dirt.

with apps like viper4android i can only boost speaker, headset, bluetooth but no earpiece...
even in my office, i have a hard time understanding people on the phone. imaginge on the street with noise... lol

I managed to fix this on two of my MI6 - it is all about dirt that is stuck between metal receiver hole and tight plastic mesh under it (some water splash proofing i guess) You have to take off glass cover from the back, unscrew motherboard and gently remove earpiece. Then with needle remove that tight plastic mesh and you will find lots of dirt under it. Use that needle again to clean it all. Try blowing some air to be sure its clean. Then assembly all back together and test the receiver - you will get extremely great sound that finally makes real stereo experience in youtube and other sources. And of course you will hear everything while phone call. Magic!
I used compressed air today from the front into the mesh. Shouldn't that be enough to blew that dirt away from the mesh?
Isn't there any software that boosts earpiece? Don't really wanna open the phone if not absolutely necessary...
Opened phone, replaced battery, tried to clean earpiece speaker, reassembled phone. Everything works but earpiece is completely dead now..

Unbelievably, but it was all about dirt I wasn't able to find some enough thin needle, which can pass through micro holes and remove dirt, so i intentionally made several "micro" damages with normal needle. Just slowly and carefully, I broke with needle, guys these damages on grill are so small that you cannot see it with eye and my earpiece is loud again in call.

And for all people who pointing on software issue: I think this is placebo (or better say anti-placebo). Your earpiece collecting dirt with time, you are flashing new roms/versions with time. Think about this Trust me, I didn't changed rom, I was stay on same Havoc as before of "drilling" micro holes and magic is here.

But I think that best way is to open whole phone and clean it from inside that mesh.

Low earpiece volume fix for MIUI 11
I have same problem on my Xiaomi Mi6 MIUI 11. Low earpiece volume (only during calls)
I tried editing /vendor/etc/mixer_paths*.xml files, but they seem to have no effect on MIUI 11.
(well, mixer_paths_tasha.xml has some effect since earpiece sound goes away when I try to remove that file, but no volume changes)
Please can some developer help me to find a way to tweak earpiece sound volume during calls?
Cleaning earpiece is not a solution, it has really good sound during tone mode or when playin a music to it. I just sometimes need to hear a person with bad microphone when it's loud around me during call.
Surprisingly, the toothbrush solution helped... Hearing loud and clear once again.

for me it helped only little needle for insulin that 0.25 mm and aprox 100 shallow stich

How about very high volume in some calls? I noticed that on every 9.0 ROM in call volume is too loud in my case, even when it's set to minimum I still have to hang my phone at a distance of a few centimeters from my ear... so I think it isn't normal

I'm on MIUI Global 11.0.6.0 currently. Have tried a factory reset already, no improvement. Wondering if I should install a custom rom? I'm not currently rooted/unsure if I'm unlocked or not. My phone runs global rom, but was purchased from aliexpress in china.

I had tried those methods but what fixed it for me was completely removing/destroying the earpiece grill. After i destroyed it, i found beneath a very thick caramel like bar, i removed it and voila, its just like it was new, minus the grill.
I've had an improvement with vigorous external cleaning and custom rom. It's still not great but it's now more usable.
I had a look at what's involved from cleaning the earpiece from behind and it requires a significant amount of disassembly.
I might try some compressed air if I can borrow some.
Not keen on completely breaking the grill open at this stage.
This is my first water "resistant" phone and I'm totally tempted to wash it under the kitchen sink just for the heck of it.
But I'm guessing that while the phone will still "work fine" after getting wet, there just isn't much you can do about light damage to speakers.
Even polymer or other "plastic" speakers. Even as tiny as the surrounds on these speakers might be. If they even have surrounds.
Anyone have experience getting phones wet and then listening to the speakers afterwards? Were they okay?
I took mine into the shower and the speakers immediately lost about 75 of the volume. After, I towel dried it, shook it out, even blow dried. Still, it's not back to normal.

Technically it should be able to handle being under water without any problem. I know that the wife knocked my Lg g6 into the spa and pulled it out right after without any problem to the phone or speakers.
The pixel is IP68:
Meaning"
The new devices can withstand immersion in water of more than 1 meter and will generally work down to 3 meters.
I would presume that the speakers just need to dry out completely before they are back to normal?

I believe there is also a distinct difference between being immersed in water and forced water. Meaning dipping it in water or using it in the rain might be OK but a shower head spraying water into the speaker or other ports/holes would be bad.
I treat the water resistance as more of an insurance policy/safety net than a standard feature.
I've soaked mine several times when applying the wet install screen protectors and they are 100% fine. The speakers were wet to the point where I pressed the screen liquid was seeping out of the speakers. I haven't noticed any problems after this. I've had the same experiences with other phones as well.
The speakers themselves are fine, but it's the speaker grill that seems to clog up and block the sound from the speaker below. It really doesn't take much to severely reduce the sound of the speakers.
When I first got the phone, I kept the plastic on it while setting it up as I waited for my screen protector to arrive. When I tried to listen to a song, I had to turn the volume up to max just to hear anything. That thin little sheet of plastic was enough to almost completely block the sound at any volume lower than max. So, I'm sure any calcium deposits left in the speaker grills when the water dries will have the same effect.
I've heard people having success scrubbing the grill with a small brush. Be careful not to scratch your screen though.

I took my Pixel 3 XL into the shower and it was just fine. The speaker's get quiet and muffled when water gets into them but that's normal. I just played some music at full volume with my phone face down on the corner of my desk so the speaker grilles were exposed and the water eventually came out. It took a bit longer than I was expecting but they returned to exactly how they were before.

I thought about that, but this could damage membrane inside, don't really want to destroy speaker.
I have used the canned compressed air. I'm just careful to not point it directly into the grill, but instead I do it at a 45 degree angle and not too close to the grill surface.

It works to my satisfaction. I use a soft bristle toothbrush to lightly dislodge any large grime and then run the compressed air at a 45 degree angle. The typical dirt that mine picks up is from placing it in my pocket - so lint and such.
