unlocking bootloader cons? - Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra Questions & Answers

hello, Im new here, I just want to ask what will happen if I will unlock my bootloader? Im using (XA1 ULTRA). thank you for your help.

Since 280 people ignored you I'll be your hero. Camera degrade would be a thing if it was a snapdragon chipset. Iv unlocked the xa ultra. No difference. Xa1 ultra unlocked. No difference. With these medietek chips I haven't noticed anything not working or degraded. So go for it. But the xz, xzp and such you will notice a bunch of crap missing or quality way down. But the xa ultra lines. Fire away

[Q] Arc and X10

Hi all..
So im thinking of getting the Arc.. (have the x10). Whats the actual big difference in terms of the two phones ? From what i see online they are very similar.
X10 Weighs more and doesn't have a HDMI port lol
Arc looks better (my opinion of course)

Well I agree on that... Just trying to decide what phone to get my contracts due for a upgrade ...
Again my personal opinion but get the Arc it's a fantastic phone
First and foremost, the firmware. Android Gingerbread is way faster than Froyo. Much much more than stock x10 which is Eclair.
Second, the processor. Although at same speed of 1Ghz, arc processor is faster still. Much like an intel pentium 4 vs. Core at same clock speed. And with 45nm process, it should require less battery.
Ram. It has more so it should run pretty much more than x10.
Exmor camera, hdmi, bravia lcd, etc, etc..
If you have an x10 I would say wait for a dual core SE. The Arc is too similar to the X10 in terms of hardware. Ofcourse the camera and screen are way better, but the rest of it is more or less the same

You are correct as far as hardware goes, but the camera and screen are not just improved, IMHO it is a big improvement.
The whole phone just seems better. My only gripe is the stupidly slippery battery cover, but I have a case on the way lol

If you've got and love your X10, you'll love the Arc even more! The Arcs battery cover is a tad slippery as LT has mentioned, but just buy one of THESE which has the same feel and texture as the X10's battery cover and your phone will be complete.
Moving from X10i to Arc was fantastic ... The performance & sleekness of the phone is beyond just hardware specs. It's just a big improvement from the X10i
Thanks for the replies i will probably get it then, end of the month.
Arc is a huge upgrade to the X10, but X10 is really easy to install custom stuff onto while Arc's bootloader still hasn't been unlocked

You're behind the times mate. We've been able to unlock, as well as relock, the bootloader of the arc for some time now thanks to the geniuses here at XDA. Moreover, custom ROMs are being developed for it.

I completely agree with you, i had X10i and i felt the X10 was the greatest ever. And after i got Arc the performance, hdmi connection and design where so much better than X10, and i dont regret buying Arc!

Considering an Xperia S/SL

Hello,
I'm considering a new phone and have been looking at the Xperia S/SL. I like the feel of the devices and the design. I think having a physical camera button is great! If you have an S/SL, what do you like most about it? What do you like the least? Seems other than 2 additional colors and a bump in CPU speed, the SL is the same as the S. Is that so? Most everything I've seen in terms of customization (new ROMs, etc) talk about the S and not the SL. Can I safely assume that the S and SL are synonymous with regards to rooting, ROMs, etc.?
Thanks,
cesman
Well I must say the XS is awesome, i mena the camera is great (except some autofocus issues, however you can get another app for that) the screen is gorgeous, flaws ... must I say non removeable battery, lacking micro sd port (however 32 gb I think It's fair enough)
I should go for the S if you want to unlock your bootloader
You can flash a custom kernel to have 1.7GHz like SL, no other main difference between S and SL.
The camera is good, and the device runs smooth with some tweaks for custom looks it's the same as other devices, you can always customize Android
Non removable battery and no micro-sd slot doesn't bother me, there is a key reset combo and I don't need more then 32GB
Battery life isn't superb, but also not really bad, you can easily get one day or more. Unless you are a very heavy user or have a lot of apps that sync data
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
just like my phone have lots of apps that need sync , and thats why i bought smartphone , so it can sync automatically and not to do it manually.
For the price you really can't go wrong, you get a stunning 300+ PPI 720p HD screen, a 12mp Camera and a decent dual core.
It's got a gorgeous UI but since it's an android you're probably going to be skinning it anyways. It feels weighty and it's sturdy, it doesn't feel cheap at all and you feel like you're holding a sturdy phone. Build quality is good, I've dropped it countless times and it's still yet to break for me.
You can unlock the bootloader officially which is good and it really isn't all that hard to root the device and install roms on it.
The downsides I'd say is the non-removable battery which for is a concern and a problem considering the battery isn't all the impressive, It lasts me from 8am in the morning to about 3-4am with low/moderate usage.
32gb for most people should be more than enough.
Again, for the price it's an amazing phone; it ain't the best phone though obviously but if you wanted a good phone you'd be looking at your Galaxy S3s or waiting for the Xperia Z

Interesting choice of adjectives as some would consider "amazing" better than "good". I held the Z in my hand at CES and didn't care for the feel. The ZL has a much better hand feel. If anything, that is the phone I'd wait for... As long as I can get it unlocked. I'm more attached to the Xperia line than the Galaxy... Although it is nice that Galaxy has official CM releases up to the current M1.

Does this mean that the SL's bootloader can't be unlocked?
I'm planning to buy a XS/XSL too, and i can get the SL for a lower price

I've search on here and no one has come right out and said they have unlocked the XSL's bootloader. Sony's own site doesn't show it as a supported model. Where can you get it for less?!

It can also be unlocked but I thought the S would be cheaper then the SL
Just buy the cheapest one, XS roms also work on SL and vice versa
any body make a custom rom for Xperia SL (Real SL)
becuase all of custom rom are Xperia S
I guess all Roms for Xperia s will be compatible with the sl. Not sure though.

Kernels are compatible too, right? I really don't matter if i end up turning the SL into an S, because, as i said before, i can get the SL for a lower price
If for some reason i would like to go back to the stock rom, could i use one of the "stock roms for xperia s thread" that is at the development section or i would have to get the stock official rom for SL?

It'll be better to get an S!! because its tries and tested and u have a lot of ppl to hold u back!! SL is just picking up!
The S is exactly the same as the SL just the SL is overclocked from the factory. I have a SL, shoulda just bought the S and saved some money.
Is something wrong with the device
i want to know is there something wrong with the hardware or anything i really want to buy it but m confused.

I'm gonna buy this or Z3 Compact. Honest opinion?

Hello!
This Christmas I'mm gonna buy a new phone for myself. I'm really in love with Sony, and I also don't like more-than-5-inch displays, so the two options I'm considering are this phone (Z1 Compact) or the newer Z3 Compact.
The thing is, looking at specs, the biggest differences between them are a bit larger screen, a larger battery and the newer SD801 (in contrast with the SD800). I believe the camera sensor is the same, as is RAM, connectivity, etc.
I can buy the Z1 Compact from Amazon at 350€, or get it second-hand at 250-300€. However, the Z3 Compact I can get at Amazon for 460€, a bit less if I get it second-hand.
My question is: Is this difference in price worth it? Or would you recommend me to buy the Z1? (I think Sony confirmed that all "Z" family will upgrade to Lollipop, right?)
Go for the Z1C!
In my opinion the difference is minor, but the price is much higer.

I think this is something you only know the answer for, here is a detailed video that explains the differences between the two devices :
Though, if I were you, I'd go for Z3 Compact as a device (even after looking to the price)
but, if I wan't to chose in terms of software, I think I'd go with Z1 Compact
cuz I believe not many users that already have Z1c (like me) would wonna switch to the almost the same Z3c!
which means no devs are gonna be there as well
So as I said, your personal needs control what decision you should make
Regards,
Omar.
Z1c. As previously stated not much difference (bigger display, faster CPU, 4k video) but much higher price.
Best regards,
Coempi
as z1c owner, i would pay the difference for z3c.
the display size and dual speakers win it for me as major improvements in my eyes.
huge downside z3c cant be rooted with locked bootloader, you must unlock BL to root :/
i would go for the z3 compact if i never bought my z1 compact because of the ps4 remote play and daulshock 4 compatibility
If money is not a problem, go for Z3c all the way.
But if you consider the extra money Z3c asks for, then by buying the Z1c you won't feel really bad, the differences are minor in my opinion. Of course a bigger screen in the same body and a bigger battery would be welcome, but I don't think they are important enough to justify the price difference.
Buy the Z3c . It's better than the Z1c, but that does not mean the z1c is bad.
I think the z3c is worth the cost of the upgrade, but as a z1c owner I will not upgrade unless sony changes their policy on unlocking wrt DRM keys, or someone finds an exploit. Root isn't optional for me, but I'm not willing to tank my camera performance to get it, so I'm sticking with my z1c until something comes along in this form factor that is better and also non-destructively root-able.
Z1 compact owner here:
If you already have a Z1c = don't get the Z3c
If you don't already have a Z1c = get the Z3c
Quite simple brah
there is 2 issues with the camera on z1 compact.
1) LED bled, and black marker made it ugly on my white phone.
2) My camera freeze once in a while. And recently, it freeze when i try to take consecutive shots. (First shot ok, 2nd shot freeze)
Get the z3. And z3 has double tap to wake. I doubt ps4 game would look nice on such small screen though.
Thank you! I'm more decided now on buying the Z1C!
Honestly, I don't need the PS4 Remote Play function (don't own one, to begin with). Also, losing the DRM keys and general camera functionality when rooting is a real bummer.
I watched the video Omar posted, very helpful! Also, the Z1C will get 5.0 Lollipop in this coming year, as is all the Xperia Z family, right?

Yes don't worry Sony has promised to bring official Lolipop to Z1 Compact alongside with the rest of Z family (in next the February or so)
also, Z1 Compact will get official Lolipop support from many AOSP-Based ROMs, as soon as CyanogenMod team do so
As I mentioned no worries about software for Z1C, it should get more custom support than Z3C ever will
Regards,
Omar.
Not a worthy phone to buy for Rs.15,000 more
Me too was confused between z1c and z3c
But after a lot of searching and review,i decided to go for z1c
I could go for z3c if sony priced it less.
The sales man tried to convinced me to buy z3c,then i convinced him
Go for the white version gud luck
The main problem now is z3c needs unlock BL to get root so you will loss warranty and some of Sony features. If you need root or want to backup your TA before unlock BL, Z1c is more recommended.
There are many good stuffs on z3c like better battery life(bcoz of s801), a bit bigger screen, dual front speaker and 4K recording w/ video stabilization(our 4K mod no stabilization), a bit better camera focus and more light weight.
But z1c is really good for its lower price and the looking is better because of metal bumper it looks like more a premium design and I think the LED notification is also better on z1c.

Why no Nougat update?

The XA is getting the Nougat update. Doesn't the M5 have the same cpu/gpu?
I don't know. It's kind of like Sony forgot about the M5
Looking at this forum it's like everyone has forgotten the M5.
Which is a pity, it's a great phone.
Overall the M5 has better specs and hardware, and a different GPU to the XA.

Yes so true
Sony abadon their devices
It's seems like Sony deliberately forgot our devices, forcing us to buy new models.
That's sad, because the device is relatively new and has a hardware good enough to receive the update.

The xa is a much better device bar the camera unless it's a xa ultra then it's completely a better device.

ummmmmm...... How?
The only thing that may be better - in use - is the edge-to-edge curved screen on the XA. But the M5 hardware and specs are superior to the XA.
The XA Ultra is irrelevant.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Hii to all new xpera xa1 ultra owners and Hii to all of you reading this and want to buy the phone
Well, I give to it a 5 star
Why?
I have had a lot of phones, this one gives me when I hold it the WoW effect..
Yes it looks good, it feels premium and it is good.
But, you will get a very, very good phone all over all..
BUT, there is a overall bad thing..
Just google or even search on xda..the hole xperia X series has NOT or POOR custom rom support
That means..overall love its ok and very good phone but if you like to flash roms.. don't buy it..
The only xperia from the X series wich got sort of rom support is the Xperia X performace one..
That means....if you want even any sony phone
Look first and I mean FIRST on the official sony bootloader unlock page..
If that model is unlockable..
If not..dont evan go for that too...
It must be able from sony to get bootloader unlocked...
After that google and search on XDA for your phone..not only for xperia..
If it has good roms..
IF not..buy LG, Buy Pixel.. or what ever has support on xda..
I got this phone but I did not do this research..
Now I am stuck and can not even have root..
My bootloader is locked..
That means I am stuck with all stock not to flash anything..
Even no ROOT..
I like to flash..so this makes me dissapointed a bit..
The only workarround is to change allways to different launchers if you like to change
the looks..but if something to tweak..or need root access you will not have it..
But that still does not change my feelings to give this phone 5 star..
Thanks for reading
Hope it helped someone
Sony should done proper QA on the Canadian version of this phone. It is plague with tons of bugs which rander the phone usless.
Great at first , problems now.
I purchased my US version Xperia XA1 about 5 months ago , new from Best Buy. There are several reasons to like the Xperia. 1. Large bright sharp screen , 2. Good speed, 3. Plenty of storage , 4. Good battery life. I really liked this phone before the recent (3) Sony updates. Now my touch screen stops working from time to time, a quick screen off and on works to solve the problem. The worst is now when I take a call and hold the phone to my ear the screen does not go off. So my ear touching the screen launches system setting and apps. CRAZY when you finish the call you have to close everything. Another gripe is that the updates are not past Android 7.0, one would think that on such a new phone that the past three updates would be at least 7.1. Other minor issues are surprisingly the camera quality. It is very hit and miss depending on the light and if you use advance settings. For quick shots the photos are just okay to just plain bad. The video recording is not bad but the audio levels in the recording are low. The prices have dropped quite a lot since I purchased my Sony but I would not buy it again if I had a do-over.
