I've got the unlock code for my G5+ Prime Exclusive from Motorola's site - Moto G5 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm really surprised. Minutes ago I tried to get the unlock code for my Prime Exclusive phone, expecting "a miracle" but indeed: it happened. Can anyone else try to get the unlock from Motorola's site to confirm that is working now for Amazon Prime Exclusive Moto G5+? I'm a little afraid of "bricking" my phone

You have probably gotten a "golden" IMEI... we know a few Amazon phones leak through the system and can be unlocked, we hear rumors from time to time of someone getting lucky.
I don't have any more Amazon Prime devices here anymore, but would be curious to have others try but I expect you just got lucky. Be aware that returning to stock after modifying the device could be problematic as we have no firmware images from the amazon software channel and a different software channel won't flash, but custom ROM's work.
Remember, you have gotten the code... so your Moto warranty is voided no matter what you do (although Amazon will likely honor it if it's within return window). Tread carefully, few people have been in your shoes. :/

Did this today morning, with my Moto G5 plus amazon prime and now with the ROM][8.1.0][POTTER] Pixel Experience already.

the amz version can be unlocked now it seems I got it also

I hardly read up on my G5 Plus here because the phone was unrootable, but I thought I'd come see what's new and WOW.....how cool is this. Now I'm unlocked, have TWRP, Magisk, and I'm happy with the phone again, even though it's not my daily driver. I had a fun afternoon.
I know we don't have the stock image to restore, and I DON'T EVEN CARE. LOL I'll have to put my TWRP backup somewhere safe or just use custom ROMs. I was too excited to NOT toy with the phone today.

I just tried mine this morning and I can confirm that it works!
If you are reading this and haven't got your unlock code, at the least, you need to do it soon. Just make sure to read ALL the Moto disclaimers and especially these forums so you know what you're getting into.

I don't believe you, so tell us how the heck did you get into fastboot mode?
I'm in develop mode, oem and usb debug choosen and after each reboot the cell boots into typical phone mode, no fastboot.

Power off your device completlely and then press and hold the volume down button for 2 or 3 seconds. While still holding down volume down, press and release the power key. That should bring you into fastboot mode.

thanks, I was holding the volume up, my bad.

moto unlock page working right now today as of this post.

just not working for me. oh well...

Eh, tried yesterday and today; no go for me, either.

Maybe that was the reason that the page was down. A little mistake on Motorola's side to let devices through that shouldn't?
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs

Doubt that scenario, I tried it when it was down and received the same answer.
maybe it's due to the cell updates being current.
I've been wondering if I reset the phone, would the phone be back to the way it was when I purchased it without the updates.

maybe it needs to be out of warranty ?
no that wouldn't make sense, haven't seen any post about the g4 being unlockable

it would be interesting to hear from those people who supposedly had their Amazon G5plus bootloader's unlocked.
I have the amazon exclusive...the xt1687 updated to March 2018 patch.
what I wonder and don't know is if I were to do a factory reset, would it go back to the condition before I did the updates?

If you do a factory reset, you'll still be on the March update. I've attached a screenshot of my phone in dual screen. I have the same phone, XT1687, too. I happen to get the unlock code before the website went under maintenance. I was able to install TWRP for recovery and Magisk for root.

There's nothing you can do. your phone can't be rooted.
if it's a universal number maybe someone could post that number, I doubt they will.

Completely different ROM?

Is there any desire to put a different rom on this thing and de-amazon-ify it? Amazon closed my account for "bad selling practices" despite the fact I have an investment in two fire TVs, a gamepad, two kindle fire HDX, one recently renewed year of prime, and over $150 in purchased content that they say I cant access now. Im absolutely livid at the amount of control amazon has over things that I hvae purchased, and content that I own. Im not a programmer, I really dont even understand how building an android ROM works. If anyone here who does understand these things wants to get started on making a NON amazon rom that still supports the remote, and the game pad, and has some kind of TV friendly interface, that would be great. at least then I would be able to keep part of my investment.

Read the fine print in any app store. Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, all have a clause saying that anything you purchase will be gone if your account is closed. Even though you may get a refund for Prime via your credit card company, any "purchased" (read: rented) apps or media will remain inaccessible even if you change ROMs. APKs of paid apps have Amazon's license check, and will fail to start if you don't have Amazon's Appstore installed and signed in with the account that purchased these apps.
It's never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. I recommend doing purchases with a separate account than your primary one. Just in case your primary account is closed for doing something they deem as "bad," at least you have a good chance to keep your purchased items and subscriptions. I do that with my Google account, and I would do the same with my Amazon one if I cared enough about the content there.
The desire to create custom Roms exsist for the Fire TV, however this device has a protected boot loader that is currently very difficult to remove. Without getting past this hurtle, there will be no custom Roms for this device. The only function we have at the moment is full control root access. This allows for tweaking the OS but that's about it. Don't hold your breath on an unlocked bootloader because that may take a while, or not even happen at all.
The only other option currently is https://github.com/freedreno/freedreno/wiki/FireTV but the entire process is not public.
I threatened amazon with a lawsuit, and they unlocked my account. Now I cant sell but at least I can buy.
You sound like a winner.
A few weeks back this guy jcase was on twitter bragging about how he was going to update his 25 dollar tool to unlock the bootloader on the FTV. Sadly, it still hasnt be released so its probably just another bait from him (surprise!), much like the root he claimed to have for 6 months but ended up never releasing. Pretty safe to say at this point that the FTV will not be unlocked, good thing is android tv is around the corner, plus there are other boxes like the Minix NEO X8 which are more powerful and offer the full android experience.

never once did he say he was going to update any other program of his to include the FireTV unlock, nor did he say he was going to charge 25 bucks to unlock the ftv .. he said he would release his work shortly.. then he said live got real and stuff came up.. hold tight.. as in he'll release it when ready.. its people like you that, if i was him, would deter me from working on exploits any more. if you want it unlocked so bad, its all been laid out a few times how he did it, what needs to be done, and with robclarks instructions you could get something else running on it.. (for myself, this is all way over my head),so do it yourself or wait and let things happen when they happen, maybe shoot him a donation on paypal saying thanks for all his hard work too.

G4-Locked Bootloader?

It's the deal breaker for me. Will the G4 like the G2 and G3 have a locked bootloader? The phone itself looks great but if LG do this again, they can forget it.

I am afraid now a days you will have to look at the M9 or Nexus if you want an unlocked boot loader. Of course it will just be a matter of time before that will be bypassed like on the G2 & G3.

My Note 4 came with an unlocked bootloader and my Z2 last year was unlockable. I had the G3 for a month and gave up with it as it took too long for a work around.
I was talking about an across the board unlocked, not dependent on variant/carrier, etc. Those two are the only ones besides any "Google Play Edition" phones, which I haven't seen with the current generation,by which are going to be factory unlocked. Good luck in your search.

Actually, that is for bootloader unlock. It is a feature of lollipop. I am surprised to see it outside of nexus however. Checking that option does not unlock your bootloader, rather it is a security setting to allow the process to happen. With Nexus, you must check this option before you can use "fastboot oem unlock". It has also been the cause of many soft and hard bricks on the Nexus 6.

LG G4 future forecast of custom ROMs

Is there a future forecast for custom ROM support for the LG G4. I'm thinking about buying the G4, but I'm not sure. The custom ROM community for the G3 is great. Do you guys think that in about a year or so the G4 custom ROM community is also very active?
Only few variants of G4 got bootloader unlocked for now. The rest are having to stay with stock ROMs. If you want to customize your phone consider buying a G4 variant that can get bootloader unlocked. Or get a Nexus
Yeap same here im also g3 user but now g4 with locked bootloader in g3 i flash every roms

how about locked bootloader for 70% of the variants and loosing warranty for the other 30%.
i never unlocked my bootloader on S3/Note1/4 but i could install ROMS even with the less open Exynos phones has better support that this locked down, horrible DPI, fantastic camera, average battery G4. of course this is my mistake for trying out a LG phone, should have waited a month and got the Note 5 or simply went with S6 Edge.
I don't think it's a mistake to have chosen a LG phone. In my opinion, it's a very good phone with two issues: two high resolution (no one needs a higher resolution on a 5,5 inch phone than Full HD in my opinion) and therefore a weak battery...but besides, I think it's great. And hey, CM exists though and that's just not that bad at all.
How can I be sure that the bought - or yet to buy - LG G4 is bootloader unlocked? I'm thinking about buying the G4 at a web-shop in the Netherlands. I contacted the technical department of the web-shop and they told be that most of the models are bootloader unlocked. But they gave no guaranty. They said it is impossible to look at the model number beforehand.
Is there a site available where you can check the model number if it is bootloader unlocked or not.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks my man. I did see you're recommendations, but thing the is that the phone's mentioned by you are far more expensive compared to the G4. There is a offer where you can buy the phone for € 359,- and you get a voucher worth of € 75,- that you can use at the bigger warehouses here in the Netherlands. So that's kind of a no-brainer compared to the purchase price of the Note 5 or Nexus 6p.
The only thing that's keeping me worried is the custom ROM community. Some people mentioned that if the bootloader is unlocked you're free to flash custom ROMs. But how interested is it for programmers to invest there time in the G4?
i dont know what a voucher is lol and googled it got nothing
anyway the boot-loader thing is really annoying and LG is giving no promises about it so its not promising to get an unlockabale version
i have h815p and whatever customization I do on stock it can never be compared to custom kernel and rom
so you must be sure of the model you buy to be unlock able
Good luck

He is fine, look at the second screenshot. Its already unlocked.
Hello everyone. I think this might be a good sit to ask my question. My wife is using the pixel xl on Verizon, I have it unlocked, rubbing dirty unicorn, and has not been touched firmware/rom wise since almost a year ago. I have been using my OP3T and need help updating her firmware, radio, modem, ROM and ask that jazz... Backups abs restores are funny I remember that, but not specifics. Please, can someone point me in the right direction so that I can get her phone up to date as painless as possible... I'm so sorry for the lazimess on my end, this device turned out to be very complicated when it came to modding, and I have a newborn baby so I can't commit tree time to scour the forms, not to mention? Wife dies not like to be without a phone.... We are on Verizon (Fi was awful) so maybe a return to stock and keep BL unlocked, then root... do you still use boot-to-root? Or will magdisk work? Magdisk.zip did not flash for me. I hour someone understands this post abs is kind enough to respond.

Now how in the hell did he get so darn lucky? I've been wanting to unlock my bootloader since I got my Verizon pixel XL since October... Wtf? Not fair.. ? anyways.. I'm still willing to contribute to the exploit of bootloader unlock for something more recent to work... Shame the depixel8 exploit team didn't want to 1up and find us another way.
Dollar short, day too late I suppose... But anyone having an idea to get this done please PM me or post us something....please!!!!!?

?????? How were you not able to unlock the bootloader, did you mean 2016 October or 2017 October? I got my Pixel XL on January 2017 from Verizon and was able to unlock the bootloader.
Unfortunately it was October 2017.
I just wish I could figure it out myself.. you'd think some HTC tool would work maybe since it's made really by HTC and not Google technically. Anyway, someone up for the challenge? Any takers? Please? Lol

Update from Verizon - Pulled Back?

There was an update for my Verizon Note 10+ 5G which supposedly failed and was successfully rolled back. I checked again and tried the PC tools which give me an error message saying my firmware is not compatible with the PC update tool. (I am NOT rooted.) I checked again OTA and now it says there is no update which means Verizon must have pulled it! I see no issues operationally with the phone - Note my s/w version as well. Anybody else run into this?

With AT&T I'm more afraid of their updates and automated downloads/flashes than malware... lol, still on Pie.
Best to keep updates blocked, let it roll out and see how many get rolled over by it.
Give it a couple weeks and then decide.
With Q I'm still not satisfied enough to load it and as such the backlog of security updates remain pending.
Whatever.

I don't think it was pulled. I got the update a couple of days ago with no failures.
I have the Verizon Note 10+ 5G. Stock not rooted.

Then why does it say my upgrade failed but I have the most up to date version!?!?? What build do you have, does it match the build number in the photo shown of my phone?

Girlfriends Verizon version got an update. She makes it known to tell me because of bad experiences with Verizon updates . I don't know what happened with hers though. She uses her pixel 4 as her personal but I'll ask.

Thank you for your reply but mine is specific to the Note 10+ 5G, so what you suggest is like comparing Apples to Oranges. I have noticed also as you can see by the photos originally supplied, although it tells me the update failed, the software version has changed and that may be why it also says there is no update available. I may actually be running the later version or not, there is no way to really tell, either way it was handled very sloppily by Verizon and is concerning.
However, I have also heard, Google will be discontinuing the Pixel line of phones so as they say, every company is screwed up, they are just screwed up different ways...!

I was talking about her note, she has 2 phones.
The August update is a battery hog and it's also caused Bluetooth issues. If I didn't have to wipe the phone, I'd go back to the July update. Maybe enough people complained and they quietly pulled it.

Once I get a stable load that's running well, I leave it alone. Been running both Windows and Android like this for many years with very little trouble. As you are keenly aware of tracking down an update issue can be very time consuming*. Many times a hard reset due to malware be easier. Malware on Android has caused me only one hard reset in over 6 years.
I herd dinosaurs, lol, I take a conservative approach to updates because many times the cure is worse than the disease. A bare bones updated Windows or Android machine runs faster... I hate waiting.
Carriers are partnered with Samsung and jam their own crapware and app graphics "updates" in their too on OS upgrades.
These can make it usable... I remember the horror of Lollipop on my S4+, destroyed it... thanks AT&T. Not.
That's one reason I'm still running on Pie... with no issues.
*may be a settings issue. My Pie load runs best with all power management turned off especially 3rd party including Samsung. A new update means a Google search won't yield many solutions for it.
The first app I block is AT&T updates... no joke.

I don't know. Look up that error code 410.
Like I said, I don't think it was pulled.
