For the last few weeks, I've started to feel a need of getting a cable that can be used to charge my devices with different ports. My current device, Xperia X has a standard micro USB port, while the other phones I have are equipped with USB type C port. Using connectors is as painful as it can be because those small things often disappear
After browsing the Web for a while, I decided to give IQIYI MFi Certified 3-in-1 USB Charging Cable a try. While I can't pronounce a name of the company, the quality of the cable is really good. It is made of plastic (obviously), it has no braiding and offers three types of connectivity. By default, you can charge/sync micro USB device, but one of two attached connectors quickly changes the type of the charger to either USB Type C or Lightning. I'm not a fan of iPhones, but I lent the cable to one of my friends, and it has passed the compatibility test (ergo, iPhone was not complaining about not original charger).
It's not the cheapest cable available on the market, but you can get it for roughly $12. More info on its Amazon page.

I have a Tilt 2, had it since last March. I've had to have it replaced twice already due to the USB jack getting to the point where it no longer functions except to charge, it won't connect via cable to the pc, nor will it work with the multi-function adapter provided at purchase by HTC.
Is it dangerous/wrong to use after-market chargers/adapters/standard usb cables with the phone??? Am I damaging the usb port by using car chargers/wall chargers, etc that I got from ebay, or is this just a matter of bad design?
It isn't. It looks different, but its not. I believe its ONLY notched like that because not only is that port a USB port, but it also has a few extra 'wires' for connecting a headset to it. (via the HTC adapter)
Of course, the corporate answer is.. Yes using a non HTC Power Adapter could damage your TP2. But unofficially, I doubt it.
I've stopped buying over priced chargers for my phones and will by any Mini-USB charge that I can find. Most will work. The voltage does not matter anymore since USB is a set standard, and any modification to the voltage would not comply to the USB standard, and it wouldn't be USB then.
I've had the same issue with my TP2 (and with the HTC Wing I had before). Check the power adapters itself. I have a RAZR charger I've been using for years, and I think the plug itself has just about had it.
Also take some canned air to the USB port on the phone (while it is powered off and battery removed) and try to remove debris from the USB port. The minuscule little piece of dust could cause a bad connection. Electronic cleaner works better at this. (its LIKE canned air but contains alcohol-based cleaner in the "air". It's available at Radio Shack.) This fixed the problem I was having with my Wing.
And finally, it may just be time for a new phone. The ports just plain wear out from daily plugging and unplugging that adapter in. One slight bend and the port is all out of alignment.. (does it wiggle instead of being a firm connection when you plug in the charger?)
This is why I am waiting for the day these induction charges are standard in phones.. No more power adapters!
I just use a normal USB plug for mine. I don't even fool with the one it came with so I don't get that one confuse with something else. They only notched it like that to make a buck, I would guess.
If you are trying to use Mini USB headphone, only the ones made by HTC will work as it has 11 pins. Standard Mini USB has only 5 pins.
I have been an owner of multiple iPhones, Samsung S3 and now the new LG G3. I kept all my cables from when I owned the S3 and in trying to use those Micro USB cables to charge my new LG G3, I have discovered that the cables that I purchased for my S3, including the one that came with the S3 does not seem to charger the LG properly, i.e. very slow or not at all even when I can see that the phone has recognized the and showing charging. Either I have a bad/defective charging port on my LG or there are some compatibility issues with Micro USB across the different makers/manufactures.
Yes, I have tried all the steps for isolating to the cable and not the charger going between the supplied chargers, car chargers, PC, iPad chargers etc all with similar results.
I am aware of of OTG type cables and have owned them all but only been an owner of two android phones. Upon inspecting the two cables from LG and Samsung, it appears that the pin-outs on the connector are different. I have read some posts that have mentioned compatibility issues but somewhat disappointed if manufactures are some way changing the supposedly universal nature of micro usb standards.
Is there a better explanation for this or should I be taking my phone back to store?

MicroUSB pin-outs can't be different, but the phone can have some sort of "original charger detection" (usually by a resistance between the data pins). If the original charger is not detected it uses a lower charging current that can be provided by every USB port (max. 500mA). Long and/or thin cables can also cause a reduction of the charging current because of voltage drop.

So my original OnePlus data/charging cable is damaged and I have to put it in a certain position to get it to charge my phone. I had a spare but my friend has left it at his parents house and I don't think I'm going to get it back. I've been using the short charge cable that came with my OnePlus power bank to charge my phone.
I tried some old micro USB cables that I had lying around from older devices. They work for charging but they don't seem to let me connect my phone to my PC.
I also do not like the style of USB head that OnePlus put on their official cables, the plastic tab with the contact points does not sit firmly in the USB ports on my computer.
I want to get a couple of replacement USB cables for charging and data transfer but I don't know which cables would work with my OnePlus One. I would like to avoid an official OnePlus Micro USB cable as the USB connector is too loose.
Can anyone suggest a cable for me to get? I would like it to be able to charge at full speed and also work with USB file transfers and have a normal USB head on the cable so it sits firmly in the port.
I just don't want to order a wire and find out it doesn't work with the phone. I seem to remember my phone has always been picky with USB cables and I do have some driver issues that may be caused by the wire type.

Actually, yes. I've had my One for more than 2 years now and changed the cable as well. There are actually 2 cables I can recommend as of now - from Nillkin and from Aukey. Both are sturdy, solid, fast and just do their job as good as they should. Aukey, however, is much better in one aspect: it's longer. 2m vs 1.2m. Aaaaand it still charges with full 2.1A current, which, in my opinion, is pretty awesome. Both of them are also pretty cheap - you can buy them for ~ 5$ - just search for them on Aliexpress
I had good experiences with Sharkoon and LogiLink cables.
I've got the 5 pack from Anker and it's doing well. On a test it had good performance and was very cheap on Amazon.

Thanks for the replies, I guess my main concern was getting a USB cable that works for data transfer. I ended up ordering a triple pack of Aukey USB's. 2 x 1m and 1 x 2m cables. The description said that they work with 2.1a chargers and USB 2.0 data transfer which is what I need.

You can try BlitzWolf reversible micro usb cable. It's able to charge with full 2A current and most funny, it's really reversible, so it does not matter which side you connect to your phone (unlike normal micro usb connector).

Yeah, it charges quickly, and data transfer works great. I haven't benchmarked it or anything but its doing its job, and the 2m cable is great! It still charges quickly despite being longer. The micro USB head has a satisfyingly click when plugged in and the USB head is normal and works well.

Hi all,
I need a new USB cable for Android Auto in my car. Having some problems and want to start by ruling out the cables as a problem. (Pioneer have told me the cable included is not usb-C certified). It needs to be plugged into the back of the Pioneer unit which involes removing half of my car interior, so I want to buy a good cable and not have to do this again any time soon!
So it needs a 'male' end to go into the back of the unit, and a 'female' end which sticks out of my glovebox permanently. Then I'll need a second cable (a usb-a to usb-c to attach the pixel.)
Having seen all the news about dodgy cables and Benson Leung (Spelling?) approved cables I confess I'm more confused than I've ever been. Plus the options seems less with the male to female cable and I can't find any recent online reccomendations.
Can someone either tell me what I need to look for, or preferably, link me to a high quality male to female cable on Amazon UK? and of course one that's certified and will play nice with the USB-C device (my first gen pixel) that's gonna be plugged into the other end.
Getting the other cable is less of a problem, there seem to be plenty of lists online for recommended high quality usb-a to usb-c cables.

Is there any secret on google usb cable ? Will it is clue to brick pixel6pro if using none google usb cable ?
You can use any quality cable. The only other brand other than an OEM cable that I trust is Anker, although I've gotten lucky with some (now discontinued) random name brands.

It is the OnePlus cable isn't a standard USB cable it is a propitiatory standard, that said any good quality cable should still charge the OnePlus phone but only at 15W (if memory serves).
Anker all the way for me as well, i cannot remember the last time i used the cable that came with a phone.
As mentioned by @MrBelter it's the OnePlus cable that's the issue.
I've had this cable for about 4 years (see link), and used it on the Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 4 XL, and Samsung Galaxy S21 with no issues...still using the same came on my P6P.

OnePlus either uses firmware within the USB connector, or a specific resistance value to determine if the cable is an OP cable and it's likely they do so to limit legal liability from users who unintentionally try to push 3A - 5A through a cable not designed to handle current that high.
Folks have unintentionally used shoddy USB cables to charge a smartphone that resulted in the death of the user.
When folks speak about a "quality" cable, it's referring to the wire gauge of the cable, as it's the gauge of the wire that dictates how much current can safely pass through the wire without causing it to overheat from the high resistance caused by pushing more current through the cable than the cable is designed to carry.
A quality manufacturer will list the gauge of the wires within a USB cable and if a listing doesn't have the wire gauge listed, my rule of thumb is it can handle no more than 10W (5V @ 2A).
