ORBOT on OREO WILL NOT START - Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe Questions & Answers

Has anybody got Orbot running? It ran ok before upgrading to Oreo, now it will not start. I do have AdGuard running so the VPN key shows, and the VPN (under Settings/Network & Internet/More/VPN) shows connected, Always on active. I have tried changing sockets but SockStat does not show any conflict on 9050/9051.
I have also tried latest and earlier versions of Orbot, still NBG!
A couple of times I got the VPN key up but still no connection.
Anybody running Orbot on Oreo? if so what version (under 3 dot menu/About) what Socks?

WiFi WPA woes

Hi all
I'm having a terrible time getting my Touch Pro 2 to use my home WiFi.
When I first got the phone one week ago, it was a bit flakey on the WiFi but it did connect and was working for a couple of days. Then it disconnected and now it simply won't re-connect. I've tried rebooting the phone multiple times, including pulling the battery out, and I've also rebooted the access point.
My access point is a Linksys WRT54G.
It seems I can connect fine when the AP is set to unencrypted or WEP but not at all on WPA or WPA2. But of course I don't want to run without WPA - WEP is fatally broken.
I tried the WPA2 fix mentioned here but it did not seem to make any difference.
I go to the WiFi settings, I choose my access point and click Connect, choose "Connects to: Internet", then enter my key and try to connect. It sits at Connecting for a while then simply goes back to Available. Sometimes I get the dialog about being unable to connect due to an unknown issue.
I've tried both AES and TKIP settings in the Touch Pro 2. In my access point, when using WPA2 it says "TKIP+AES" is in use. For WPA I can choose either TKIP or AES on the AP, and I've tried both combined with both settings on the phone.
I'm also confused about why it worked for a couple of days but now does not. The only obvious I can think that has changed is that for hte first couple of days I was using my old Orange sim, then my PAC code transferred and I switched to my Vodafone sim. But I can't say for sure that that corresponds to when it stopped working nor does it make any sense for why it would affect this.
Any help much appreciated.
Tom
Which WRT54G version do you have? (version no. is on the underside of the router)
Which firmware are you running (some WRT54G versions can run on custom firmware) and are you running the latest firmware version?
Log into your router, go to Wireless > Advanced Wireless Settings and try a lower Basic Rates setting.
same.
I have the exact same router running WPA and my phone just keeps disconnecting from the network all the time... really anoying.
same here can only connect using wep.

It's version 1.1, and it is running the latest firmware - v 4.21.1 from 2007
Basic Rates was on Default, with the other valid settings being '1-2 MBps' and 'All', I tried both of those other settings, but it made no difference.
Here are my WRT54G wireless network settings for comparison
I suggest try using either TKIP or AES, but not TKIP+AES
Maybe you can the following...

That's worth a try too (though my TP2 without Advanced Config installed does not exhibit any WPA/WPA2 issue with my WRT54G, or any of my routers)

Unable to connect to network.

I just flashed the original ROM to my phone last night as an attempt to clean it back up. So far I've installed: Google Maps, Seven, Opera 5 mini beta, Microsoft My phone, Advanced Config tool, .Net 3.5, eras2r 3G CommManager Addon, Marketplace, and MS 3.5.
I had the latest Facebook app installed and it worked, decently. When I uninstalled it and installed an older version I started to not be able to connect to FB or to my internet. I've tried resetting settings, and restoring a lot of items to default. I have sense uninstalled FB from my phone completely but still can not connect to the internet on my phone. I am able to receive e-mails. I'm connected to 3G (showing an H connection) and tried to switch it over to Edge but still no dice. I'm connecting to Media Net for any connections that try and access the network.
I did make some headway by connecting to the WiFi at work. When connected I can connect to the internet just fine. This however is limiting and I don't like connecting to wifi if I don't have to.
I was using ActiveSync to transfer some cabs to my phone from my pc and just unplugged it when I finished the last transfer, hopefully that didn't cause the issue. I've performed numerous SoftResets but still having the issue.
Anyone know what I can check? I'd like to avoid Hard Resetting if possible as I hate having to set up everything again.
Edit: Forgot to add the error message when trying to get on the internet:
"Connection Failed: Unable to connect. Please review your network settings."
Is anyone able to help? This is really frustrating me
An update (hope this helps): I ran the "Enable hidden proxy" feature that the ROM comes with and switched opera over to a Socket connection. This allows Opera to work fine, but not in HTTP mode (like it was this morning). I am still unable to connect to Facebook.

You are going to need to provide more information. Which carrier (they have different Internet settings), which "Stock ROM" version.
Sorry, I'm using the Tilt 2 on the AT&T network. I eventually got frustrated enough with it yesterday that I performed a hard reset, which fixed it. I flashed the March 17th version of the 2.5 Energy ROM and had a hiccup at one point. I don't know if this is related or not, but I had plugged my phone into my work laptop and used active sync (it's now set to file transfer instead) so that I could charge my phone. About 5 minutes after unplugging it from my laptop I was unable to go to any website. A soft-reset resolved it.
edit: I really think it may have something to do with my plugging it in to my work computer. Right now I can't connect to FB via the app, I can open Opera and google search, but when trying to go to a website it gives me: "Could not find proxy server"

Does anyone have VPN Connection running on 2.2

Title says it all.
All of the 2.2 roms and kernels I have tried will connect to the VPN but must screw up the routes as they shut off my data.
Does anyone have this running?
the only issue i have with "VPN Connections" is that is doesn't pass DNS traffic correctly. hence, i must connect via IP Addy not DNS name. other than that it works fine for me. i'm able to establish a vpn connection then use the WYSE rdc/vnc app to connect to my windows or linux servers ... connnectbot for shell access.
I've also been unable to connect to either a PPTP or IPSec VPN over my 3G connection since upgrading to the official release of 2.2 on my EVO 4G. The connection appears to be established just fine, and the VPN server shows that my VPN client is connected, but I cannot ping to or from the device, nor access any internal resources from it. This is a serious bummer considering that things worked fine under 2.1. Will test over WiFi when I get home. Can't test it at work since we're behind a proxy (which is another gripe I have with Android right now... seriously Google, no proxy configuration options?).
i feel i should clarify the name the application i'm using to establish a vpn tunnel is not the stock android vpn application.
it is called "VPN Connection" http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend

I have some interesting info regarding VPN behavior. With 2.1, of course, it did not work. Here's what I experienced: I rooted my 2.1 with Unrevoked (not a full root) and then I installed OMJ's (8/6?) Froyo and lo and behold, my encrypted PPTP VPN to a MS 2003 server was working perfectly. I assumed that 2.2 resolved the vpn issues. Since I thought 2.2 was a fix, I didn't hesitate to install another ROM. This time, though, I also did a NAND root and installed another 2.2 rom; whose, I don't remember. My VPN was gone. What I discovered was that I COULD connect to an unencrypted MS PPTP server, but still not my encrypted VPN server at work. So, here we are today. I'm running Vael-Pak non-sense rom and after I loaded it I had no vpn, but here's the thing...a couple of days ago I was poking around inside some of the Evo's networking files, I didn't change anything, I just opened them and looked at them with Text Editor, and since then my encrypted PPTP VPN has been working great. I'm very hesitant to reboot my phone because I fear that it won't work anymore. Right now I'm happy.
I'm trying in vain to get VPN connections working too. The only ROM that I had it working with no problems was Cyanogenmod's. All the others don't seem to have it supported in the kernel. Now I'm running a ROM based on the stock 2.2 but haven't found a fix yet.
I'm in the same boat - my pptp vpn worked fine in stock 2.1, but not in stock 2.2...

I can't get a pptp (haven't tried l2tp) to connect from my unrooted 2.2 evo with encryption enabled. I'm trying to connect to my server at home running winxp pro with the default winxp vpn server setup.
Works fine if you disable encryption. But what's the point if it's not encrypted, right? It works fine with encryption using a laptop or my old iphone3G. Seems to be a bug with android.
I'd like to know if someone finds a workaround.
This worked in 2.1 - froyo broke it

I am in the same boat. On CM6 VPN works flawlessly, but it is missing a lot, and kept crashing on me.
On every other ROM and kernel with tun.ko, it says it is connected but no connectivity.
AVA V6 is fast, good battery life, everything works (including hulu, and blockbuster) and very stable, but the only single thing I can't get working is Cisco VPN!!

I am curious, does anyone have VPN working on any Froyo ROM besides Cyanogen?
If so what Rom/kernel are you using?
Interesting observation last night - 4g was temporarily working in sf, and my pptp vpn worked over it. I turned off 4g and retested, pptp vpn didn't work over 3g...

Can anyone connect with a VPN app?

I've tried Private Internet Access, Hotspot Shield, and Tunnel Bear. All three can't seem to connect at all and will just keep trying. I first re-installed PIA with data from my S4, but then I just removed it and re-installed it form the Play store. None of can't seem to connect. Maybe it's a Knox thing, but I haven't activated that. I'm still on stock, so a bit confused why it isn't working. My last guess is that it's not update for Android 4.3, but wanted to see if others are experiencing the same issue.
OpenVPN Connect works fine. I haven't tried any others.
I'm rooted and such as well, but I don't think that one needs root.
Interesting, I can't use OpenVPN either.
switch apn to ipv4

Internet Not Available

I have a LG G4 (LG-HG11) running Android 6.0 and I have been getting “Internet Not Available” error message everything I connect to my Wifi at home, as well as the Wifi at my parents place. Both Wifis has WPA2 PSK security password settings. I am able to connect to WiFi networks (Local College, MTA subway stations, Library, Work) that requires a two tier login i.e. connect to the wifi, then log in using the web browser. The only exception has been an apple wifi at my in laws - I was able to connect there. The Wifi works in Safe Mode.
Here are the things I’ve tried to no avail:
Forget the network
Turn off the phone and reset the phone
Tried 3 different routers (I even brought a new one)
Used a different cable modem
Unplugged/restart the router
Hard reset the router
Unplugged/restart the modem
I’ve factory reset the phone which seems to do the trick but the same issue has come back three times now. All of the apps I have installed appear to be legitimate apps and all of the other devices I have at home (laptops, tablets (android and apple) as well as Iphones all connect to the network just fine.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
