How to restart/reboot - Planet Gemini PDA Questions & Answers

Hi,
This is probably a very stupid question, but since there is no on-off button on the device, I would like to know if you can turn the gemini completely off (not standby) or if there is a way to reboot it.
Thanks!

Long press Escape and then select "Power Off". Escape doubles as ON/OFF button (it is written on it).

Reading your entry I have to add the escape button does switch off by long pressing it but you can also press the function key and keep it pressed then press escape and that puts it to sleep mode

[Q] Is it possible to use Vol-Down button for Power on/off?

The power button on HD is in an inconvenient position and hard to press.
Is it possible to use any other button (like Vol-Down) to power off and on?
I tried AEButton, but it does not seem to have an option to "power-on".
Thanks
Power Off would be possible, however to Power On the device you always need to press the configured power button. This is since AEButton is a software solution and does not alter the hardware settings. Thus making it only run while Windows Mobile is on (by altering the Windows Settings), and since when the device is off WinMo isn't running, so it won't work while the device is off.

It's supposed to be somewhat difficult ...
If you don't already know, virtually ALL power buttons are somewhat hard to press/use. It's supposed to be that way. If they were easier to press, you could easily power off your phone while it's in your pocket by accidentally hitting the volume up or down keys, or any other accidental push.

I actually meant the state into which the device goes when you press the power button once (Sleep, suspend ... whatever that is called, although this state is sometimes called power-off), and not complete power-off (by holding the power button).
In this Sleep/Suspend, is it not possible to remap the button?
I mean that it is still able to receive calls in this state, so something is running. But not WinMo?

You are right for accidental presses. However that can be taken care by assigning (if possible) a double press instead of single.
Oh, and I am sorry, I did not mean full power off, only sleep/suspend.
For PDAs, such a button placement may be ok, as you anyway have to use both hands to hold the PDA and take out/use the stylus.
But for this phone, single hand use is important. I dont use the stylus most of the time.

to power on with up/down control, change DefaultKeyLock to 0 in registry.

Thanks!! That's almost does it, but for the double press.
I added single press of Vol-Dn in AEB to Today Screen, and double press to a MortScript with PowerOff command.
Now to see if it accidentally comes on in the pouch...

[Q] Changing the hang up behavior

Is it possible to make it so pressing the power button when on the phone would hang up the call? It would be much more convenient to hang up this way then having to wait for the screen to light up, press the end button, and then hit the power button to darken the screen.

Do you have to do this while in a call? In the normal settings panel, I don't have anything under Accessibility. I was prompted to install Talkback, but that didn't add anything like a Power Button Ends Call option.
I don't believe that Sense has the option for power button controls, the other poster must be using an AOSP ROM, which does allow for you to tick the option to end a call using the power button.

[Q] Voice dialing & Screen shots not as simple as I'd hoped

Hi,
1) Does anyone have Voice Action command dialing working? Whenever I try to do it all I get is a numberof suggested Google search results for "call xxx yyy". Now most of my contacts are Swedish names and I guess that may be a bit difficult (?) but I get the same result also for the English named contacts in my phone. Can the fact that all my contacts are imported from Exchange be a reason for this?
2) I cannot, for the life of me, get the screen-shot function to work. I press the power button and then the vol-down button and all that happens is that the volume indicator comes up and goes down to "silent". And "yes" I am keeping the powerbutton pressed the whole time. Any thoughts on what I've missed?
Grateful for any ideas that'll make me appreciate this otherwise very slick piece of hardware...
Cheers/M

You need to press the volume down & power buttons simultaneously to create a screenshot.

[Q] [HELP] Power button doesn't lock phone!

The power button works because if long press it, it shows me shutdown menu. But when I singe press it , it doesn't lock my phone... Rooted phone
Under Accessibility have you made sure that single tap is UNCHECKED then again it may have nothing to do with your power button

There is a settable time out in settings. That says that X amount of time has to pass for the phone to lock after the power button is pressed. If that amount of time does not pass before another press the phone will not be locked.

Where is this setting located?

Problem taking screenshot

Hi there
When I press Volume Down + Power Button the phone opens up a power menu, where I can choose to shut down, restart etc.
I want to use the default feature of this key combination to take screenshot, I have checked the settings and couldn't find anything that would help.
Would appreciate your assistance.

Just click and release both Power and volume down buttons for screenshot. Don't press and hold.
or activate hand swipe or use s-pen. Most often I use s-pen so I can make notes.
