Portrait Mode - How to use the wide 28mm lens instead of "zoomed-in" field of view? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Portrait Mode - How to use the wide 28mm lens instead of "zoomed-in" field of view?
Hi, on my samsung phone using the ported gcam, I was able to enable/disable the "portrait-zoom" when using Portrait Mode.
I wonder if this feature is available too on the real Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Google Camera because there's no answer from googling. Some random commenters suggest that to be able to use wide field of view when in Portrait Mode, I need to buy those moment lens or any third party accesories lens.
Pixel 2 lens = 28mm equivalent
Portrait Mode = ~42mm equivalent due to digital-zoom
I want to use ~28mm equivalent when shooting Portrait Mode. How?
Thanks in advanced.

People who have mentioned using a wide angle lens with portrait mode to get 28mm portrait are correct.

Sorry for the side ways pics and looks like the latest Google Camera update with the Lens feature isn't doing portrait processing on non-faces like it used to. Hence, no bokeh seen in either portrait mode pics.

Doesn't work on TouchWiz ROMs.
What are the requirements? Does it work on 4.1.2?

This will not work with TouchWiz ROMs, it just freezes. I need to perform a reboot to use my phone back again.

It works on TouchWiz ROM , I have ROM that base on the leak and it works.
Yeah, it's working on 4.2.2 leaked but with problems. If you install it like a normal app, pic sphere dosen't work and some other issues. If you install it via CWM or copy to system/app pic sphere works but crashes focal at 96% of rendering + video mode crashes also, panorama crashes (video and panorama work when installed normally).
In both cases I do not have option to turn on exposure ring. There should be 5 options in setting and I have only 4.
I didn't realize that it's working on 4.2.2 leak, what I meant there was 4.1.2 (XXEMG4)

You should amend the thread title and put 4.2.2+ in it.

Best Camera Features of the Honor 8X

Best Camera Features of the Honor 8X
The Honor 8X's camera is way better than other shooters in the same price range. Try these features to get the most out of your Honor 8X camera.
1. Aperture Mode
The trick to creating a great wide aperture effect is having a phone with a great camera and software that can accurately differentiate background object from foreground objects. The AI NPU chipset makes all the difference in this area. The phone's ability to identify different objects and and use the dual-cameras to recognize depth, means the Honor 8X can create extremely effective aperture mode effects. Get creative with this mode and see what kind of shots your can get.

2. Portrait
Portrait mode is done extremely well on this phone. If it's your first time using portrait mode, know that it's basically your phone detecting the outline of your head/body and blurring the background. The quality of this popular effect comes down to your phone being able to accurately trace your face and remove it from the backdrop.
The Honor 8X''s large 16MP selfie camera lets you take really detailed selfies that look amazing. Try out the portrait mode with your selfie camera and you're going to be really impressed with the results.
3. AI Mode
AI mode was the main feature advertised in this phone. Toggle it on and try it out. It can really bring out the color in some of your shots. If you don't like the way the effect looks, you can toggle it off afterwards in your galley. I have this feature toggled on at all times, since there's really no reason not to. Your original image is always preserved without the AI, so you can get rid of it later on.
4. Video Format (H.265) (H.264)
You can choose the format in which your videos are encoded. You have the option of H.265 or H.264. The H.265 option will give you a more compressed video resulting in a smaller file size. The H.264 option is a less compressed format and will have slightly higher quality video.
Go to Video > Settings > Video Size > Format. to access this option.
5. Edit Your Camera Menu
With all the different camera modes built into the default camera app, it's nice to be able to customize which modes your have quick access to.
From your camera app, go to More > Edit then you can rearrange all of your different camera modes.

V30 Native Camera app great features, massive failure on texture detail

I love this phone and I am glad to have found the GCam port. I will let the pictures do the talking.
Image of a napkin texture using the Native camera app (using manual mode and "Noise reduction" set to OFF) versus the Gcam app.
Native App: Manual mode with Noise reduction off, HDR-off, and it still botches the textures. It never truly turns noise reduction completely off.

Gcam: Night and day on texture quality
Yes, the postprocessing on native app is terrible and I wish it could be completely turned off.
And yet the LG Camera is the most requested feature you can NOT get in custom ROMs.
Because GCam port is still too beta for most people. But on custom ROMs that's all you can use.
If you don't like LG camera, don't use it.

Yes, the LG cam app isn't going to compete, where that level of detail is concerned, with the Gcam Ports.
Keep in mind, the Google phones don't have exceptional lens quality, in some cases even inferior to other flagships. But what it does do better than most all other oem's is the HDR(+ enhanced etc). Have you tried any shot in 'night sight' mode? Talk about a lot of post processing!
That said, the LG app really can't be beat in some circumstances. One issue is the double click vol down to launch even when phone in sleep mode. I don't know of a way to change which app gets launched with that, so if needed to take a 'quick snap' of something... there's that.
Another is the Gcam ports don't do selfies very well. the front lens either has a green tint, doesn't seem in focus, etc. The LG cam does very well, and has the selection for 'normal lens' or 'wide angle' (even though all it's doing is cropping the only lens on the front - wide angle).
I'd summarize it thus: The LG Cam app is all around great for most pictures. The Gcam ports will do much better in certain circumstances, such as getting a 35mm SLR type result with your phone camera (but certainly not always - you still have to know how to compose a picture etc).
It really comes down to... what do u need?
Well... if I ever need a picture of a napkin, I know what to use Personally, I use both apps, whatever the circumstances call for.
Cheers
All what GCam does is some basic tweaking to the image. You can easily and very quickly do that by yourself with the stock editing tool and get even better results than GCam. You don't even need to shoot manual or RAW, auto mode is enough. Just try it
Except for night sight unfortunately, we do need it ? Sadly it crashes more times than it works ?
PS: looks like your "stock" napkin picture is out of focus. The camera can only focus effectively from a minimum distance, you need to back up a little more.

Google Camera 6.3

We know Gcam 6.3 leaks from Android Q beta 5. So, here is the ported version of Gcam 6.3 for Motorola one power too. Now night sight is moved so to get quick access for night sight.
Not Working- Portrait and slowmotion
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GoogleCamera_6.3.017-01.apk
Night sight is already available for quick access in the Gcam 6.2 which I have. Portrait mode is also working, only slow motion is now working.
What's so special in 6.3?
