[NEWS][+DOWN.LINK] Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) Oreo update rolling out in Russia - Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) Guides, News, & Discussi

According to Sammmobile.com , Samsung has finally released the Galaxy A8 (2018) Oreo update, bringing an end to months of waiting for owners of the company’s latest premium mid-range phones. The Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018) are currently being updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in Russia. The rollout seems to have started over the weekend, and since it’s already mentioned on Samsung’s official website that details software updates, it should be available for most (if not all) users in Russia at this point.
Samsung’s official changelog suggests it’s an update similar to the one received by devices released before the Galaxy S9. Oddly, Dolby Atmos support isn’t mentioned, despite the devices’ user manual saying it’s included. That could possibly be because the A8 and A8+ only get Dolby Atmos for use over wired and Bluetooth audio, similar to devices like the Galaxy J6 and the Galaxy A6. The update also brings support for VoLTE on both SIM slots, which was recently made available for the Galaxy S9 as well. It’s unclear what security patch is included, but since the May security patch has already been out for these devices, it’s possible Oreo bundles the June patch. The July 2018 security patch is included in the update. The build numbers are A530FXXU2BRG1 and A730FXXU2BRG1.
Our What’s New With Android 8.0 Oreo series of articles is the best way to get details on some of the major new features and changes that Oreo brings to Samsung devices (and this official Samsung infographic is also something you should take a look at). To see if Oreo is available for your Galaxy A8 (2018) or A8+ (2018), open the Settings app on your device, tap Software update, then tap Download updates manually. The update is likely to take a few days to start rolling out in other markets; it could also be a few weeks, depending on how quickly Samsung expands the rollout.
The Russian Firmware is avaliable on Sammobile.com on the link below :
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a8-plus/SM-A730F/SER/download/A730FXXU2BRG1/224366/
My question is ... will this firmware work on non Russian devices ?

It will.

Huawei GR5 / Honor 6X stable Nougat update released

A two-month delay for an expected updated is par for the course when it comes to receiving major updates from Google. Keeping true to fashion, the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Huawei’s Honor 6X was supposed to happen last March, but is now only rolling out this month to those in the US. Along with the usual goodies that come with the update, smartphone owners will also be getting the EMUI 5.0 so a visual interface overhaul will also be happening.
By this time we’re already familiar with what you get when you upgrade to Nougat: better battery management, improved multi-tasking features, replying through notifications, 72 new emojis, among other things. But since the update also brings EMUI 5.0, you also get a few other things that only Huawei/Honor devices get. The major ones include bringing a simpler interface with a blue and white color scheme, three-step operation 90% of the time, and a smoother system that will make it easier for you to switch between tasks.
The update also brings a more secure system specifically when it comes to user privacy, mobile payment and communication, and app usage. The task manager has also been remodeled, bringing bigger task cards that can be swiped and pinned. You can also now have two user account profiles within one app. Plus you have an app drawer option to centralize all desktop apps.
The update will roll out to all Honor 6X users starting now. But it will also be gradual and is expected to be completed by the middle of May.

I read from a lot of reviews that people are facing problems in the Nougat ROM which they downloaded from Firmware Finder or something. I can't risk my phone with that as it's a Beta release. I clearly made up my mind and was waiting for the official update ever since. By the way, I am from India and I just bought my Honor 6x like 2 weeks back. Do you have any idea about when will they be sending the update in my country? Would appreciate if anyone could provide genuine information regarding this! Thanks!
Wajira , Did you get Stable Nougat or not ?? I'm also from Sri Lanka and impatiently waiting for a nought update.
I am also waiting for the nougat. I signed up for the beta tester release but am yet to hear from them. An email to the Huawei team advised that since I am not from Vietnam, no beta release for me.

J2 Pro (2018) Oreo or Theme Support workaround.

Hello. I bought this phone since my Galaxy Note 4 SIM slot is destroyed. Is a pretty decent phone and it run good for all the things I use on it. But the only thing I am wondering is, If this phone will have Oreo Update? On some pages like GSMArena is mentioned that is planned an Android 8.0 update, but date is not given. So I wanna know if some others variants besides J250M (the one I have) has the update available.
And my other question is, is there a way to enable themes with/without root? Thanks to everyone who came and give me an answer though.
Same problem
Please help us get themes on this phone.. been trying to get since last year

The only reported information was in the Samsung Members of India, that Android Oreo would be rolled in January 2019 for SM-J250F.
In Samsung Members of Brazil, nothing was said of SM-J250M.
And also nothing is known about SM-J250G and SM-J250N.
It's quite possible that it stays on Android Nougat.

Without root, you can install Samsung Themes, but you can not install Theme Manager.
That is, it will not work.
With root, no tutorial has yet appeared.
Tutorials for the Galaxy J2 2015 and Galaxy J2 2016 (which supported themes but not the theme store) are not valid for it.

It won't in any official state and has had 2 major updates since it's release in February 2017 like the A3 and A5 2017. It, like the other devices, is not eligible as it has gone through it's update cycle as per Samsung update policy.

As @moozer mentioned it already (but I have to add something) only the international A7 2017 devices (SM-A720F) won't get official pie as it passed the 2 major update schedule. There is still hope at least for the korean variant (SM-A720S). Samsung shipped SM-A720F with Marshmallow to our markets but SM-A720S were shipped with Nougat out-of-the-box in korea, that means SM-A720S only got 1 major update and maybe get a second one with android pie.
You can easly identify or compare it in the firmware releases:
A - android version out-of-the-box
B - 1st major update
C - 2nd major update
for example:
SM-A720F:
A720FXXU2AQG5 - Marshmallow
A720FXXU3BRB8 - Nougat
A720FXXU4CRG2 - Oreo
SM-A720S:
A720SKSU2ARB1 - Nougat
A720SKSU3BRK1 - Oreo
A720SKSU4CXXXX - Pie ??

So if they release pie for the 720s, then how much more work would need to be done for the 720f? If they build pie for one, they might as well build it for the other as they are similar.
Seems I read somewhere about sm-a720? getting pie, but don't quote me on it. It would make sense according to your post.

yes you're right both variants are very similar and it won't take much time for samsung to build pie for A720F too but this doesn't change the fact about A720F's major updates. We all know samsungs marketing: 2 major updates then security patches only.
I remember a scenario which really happened to S5 Neo. Samsung released in 2015 the Galaxy S5 Neo as SM-G903F, SM-G903M and SM-G903W. All were shipped with Lollipop 5.1.1. Also all got a major update to Marshmallow. However, when samsung started to release Nougat only the SM-G903W (Canadian) variant got it while the international varaints never got an official update to Nougat. And I can imagine a similar scenario might happen to A7 2017: SM-A720S will get Pie while SM-A720F won't.
It won't, because Samsung Screwed us all out of an update by releasing the phone on Marshmallow, when Nougat was long since available.
Well Samsung politics is under the moto "buy new phone"
Fook that

If you have the a505f model you can try the indian firmware (google this :A505FDDU4BTC4) but i advise you to wait for your region's firmware since it may be impossible to go back to Android 9 after the upgrade.
Here's the link F India firmware

I flashed the INS firmware, no issues so far. Camera is still crappy, and the fingerprint sensor is still the same.

Technically speaking, the first package was the Update and the second is a Security update.
I'm a little rusty on my Samsung naming convention, but I just went through my old files from my Note 8 days and it was consistent.
U for version update, S for security update.
Also the 4th letter from the end is another indicator of the version. A = OS at release, B = 1st version upgrade, C = second and so on.
So I have a feeling this new file is still Android 9, and is just a security update.
A505FDDU4BTC4 indicates Android 10 version upgrade.
A505FDDS4ATB6 indicates Security update for release OS version.

It's a shame and completely unacceptable that an Android 10 build released in 2020 doesn't have full camera2api support. It's something that was introduced with stock Android Lollipop 5.0!
Why is camera2api not working. Is there any telegram group of devs where I can request for the same?

can't flash with odin even though bootloader being unlocked

i've got an a50 that i want to install TWRP on so i won't have to use the abomination that download mode is. i've unlocked bootloader, yet when i try to flash the TWRP .tar in odin it fails and the phone gives the following error code: "Only officially released binaries are allowed to be flashed(RECOVERY)"
although this is the first time i try flashing stuff on a samsung so you can consider me a newbie, i've got experience with fastboot on others so it must be something i glanced over.
cuz see, when i unlock the bootloader of other phones they let me flash onto them, unlike this one. if you could redirect me to a post with a solution or something that would be very much appreciated!
If you are on the latest official build, then The latest official build (last official Update from samsung) won't allow the twrp to be installed.
Use previous build to install twrp.

You can proceed.
The problems you may get with FOD, VoLTE. Some operators like Jio completely depend on volte . Without volte we can not make calls and receive messages. Only internet Anwould work.
