Which foreign carriers (USA) are supported in Z2 plus? Pls. share experiences - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

I am going on a trip to the USA, and would like to know which SIM to purchase there. Do you have experience about which bands are supported or which SIM brands offer compatible SIMs for Lenovo Z2 plus?
Also, I'm running AICP Nougat based ROM. Will changing to newer ROM give my any band benefits?

More than ROM, network is dependent on baseband. Stock ZUI 3.5.x based on Oreo has higher baseband version compare to stock ZUI 2.5 (Indian) based on Nougat !!
Secondly, best is to tweet to respective career of US to ask them along with your phone link to see if they support your device.
Check GSM Arena, or back of phone box, it lists the different frequencies the phone support. Then use the Google or Career website to figure out if they provide services on those supporting frequencies or bands !!
Thanks.

You should buy any sim that uses AT&T services. On T-Mobile you won't have 3G/3G+, although LTE is good. But during a call, your phone would automatically switch to 2G, and since 2G is being phased out, you will have bad reception and dropped calls.

Question for people who bought Z Play directly from Motorola in the US

I'm curious to know what model people received direct from Moto in the US. My Z Play was given as a gift and bought from Best Buy, but it's XT1635-02, which I keep reading is an International model.
For those in the US that bought direct from Motorola, what's your model number?

The same XT 1635-02...
I ordered my Moto Z Play Droid direct from Motorola, and got model number XT1635-01
XT1635-01 is the Verizon US variant, XT1635-02 is the US AND international varaints, XT1635-03 is the chinese variant. XT1635-02 can be either dual or single sim, and only differs in the software channels(retus, reteu, retla, etc). I think XT1635-03 is dual sim only, but im not sure. If you want to confirm your device is for the US market, go to settings > About phone and check the software channel which should read retus.
Seems silly that they would use the same model number for different regions with different band support. Confusing

All XT1635-02 variants support the same GSM bands. XT1635-03 supports the chinese WCDMA bands and probably some GSM bands. XT1635-01 supports US CDMA bands and some GSM bands. Arguably motorola probably just disabled the CDMA and WCDMA bands on the XT1635-02 so that people would actually buy the phone from verizon as opposed to buying it from the manufacturer. Which verizon made a deal with them to try and grab more customers by saying "Look at this innovative new phone! Only here at Verizon!" as is clearly obvious by the phone being exclucive for a few months before international release.

Perhaps, but that doesn't support why the Europe and USA versions of the unlocked XT1635-02 have different band support. Seems like this wouldn't have anything to do with Verizon exclusivity, and if the hardware support is there, why not make all bands available for true world support?

Checking motorola's site on the band support, XT1632-02 retus supports UMTS band 1700, reteu does not, however reteu support LTE bands 25 and 41, while retus does not. One of the reasons companies love proprietary software is because they can get away with doing things they dont want you to know about. Motorola can disable select bands on different variants and knows you have no way of enabling them (or even knowing if you can) since you do not have access to their source code. I cannot say for 100% sure that every variant supports the same bands hardware wise, but it would cost motorola more money to manufacture the phone with 3 or 4 different radios than it would be to just include 1 radio and then disable what they dont want you to access. The support I have that they do use this practice is because all XT1635-02 still have the pins for a second sim even on the single sim models. This would reduce manufacturing costs by skipping an unneeded step of seperating the phones between dual and single sim. On the Moto X Play some people were even able to activate the second sim on single sim only models. If you were around during the Nexus 4 era, Google intentionally disabled 4G LTE on that phone for seemingly no reason. Devs were able to figure that out and were able to unlock the 4G LTE capabilities. About Verizon exclucivity, if motorola disables the CDMA bands on their international model, you have to buy your phone from verizon if you want to use it on verizon. Lenovo (Motorola) has had big success with verizon exclucives from their droid series and they want to keep it that way. So in order to make costumers keep buying Droid phones they make it so that you have buy from verizon if you want CDMA support or you're SOL. This also allows verizon to lock down what CDMA carriers the phone can be used on (Which currently is only verizon AFAIK). Why they dont just enable all bands on all models is a good question, but once again it could have to do with the Verizon exclucivity because remember the verizon model was the first to be released. You had to buy the phone from verizon or motorola in order to get it which helps the Droid series sell. Releasing the phone 3 months later with global support could hurt the Droid series and potentially piss of customers.

Thanks for the detailed info.
One weird thing is this: according to http://willmyphonework.net/ the unlocked USA version of the Moto Z Play has partial T-Mobile 3G and 4G support, while the unlocked Europe version has partial T-Mobile 3G support and full 4G support. However the unlocked Mexico version apparently has full 2G/3G/4G support. ??? Sounds like the USA version is actually the worst in terms of band support for T-Mobile.

Funny enough on their motorola's own website, they say the US version only has partial support for AT&T and full support for T-Mobile. https://www.motorola.com/us/carrier-compatibility I guess we'll never know whats going through the minds of the people at Lenovo. I also added a bit to my previous post about the global bit of your question.
Something to remember is that for most handset manufacturers, the carrier is their customer, not you. When handset manufacturers have a new phone to sell, they hand-make some prototypes and hawk them around the carriers (networks). If the network likes it, they will usually say "I'll only take it if it has this, this and this, and has that, that and that removed". Manufacturer then does some horse trading, hence "that would be uneconomic to remove from hardware, but we can disable it in the firmware".
Eventually they reach agreement and the network says "deal, I'll take 500,00" (for example) and agrees the payment. It's those advance payments (or borrowing against them) that fund the cost of production, and hopefully leave some profit left over for the manufacturer. This is why what the networks want always takes precedence - international unlocked sales are always a complete unknown, and usually a very small part of total sales. For most handset manufacturers, it's those exclusive deals with networks that keep the lights on. Only the iPhone ever bucked that trend, by being seen as a single product with such high demand that it gave the manufacturer more power than the networks. Android phones are divided between lots of different models and multiple manufacturers, which means that the manufacturer's bargaining power for a single model is very limited.

Are you saying the info on the moto site isn't 100% correct? I wanted to get one of these for AT&T but it shows it is only somewhat compatible compared to Tmobile i
also see no checkmark by republic wireless, but I know for a fact RW is selling them on their website, and there is even a RW promo taking place in a few days with the z play

I have AT&T and am having no issues with signal. I get EDGE, HSPA, HSPA+, and LTE. I actually get better signal on AT&T than I did on verizon on my Moto X Pure (AT&T also costs me almost 3x less as well ). AT&T uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 17, and recently (from what ive heard) 12. XT1635-02 retus supports all of those bands (it lists supported bands on the box).

Lenovo P2 model differences

You would need to worry about the frequencies that both models are configured for. Typically Lenovo has CN and ROW (Rest Of World), and with my previous P780, I had to set a custom ROM to make it work as ROW using Europe frequencies for GSM.
I heard that for the P2, this is the differences between the models but I'm not sure...

That's interesting, did the box look like it had been opened? The 4GB/64GB is the version i'm really looking for. Did it have google play etc when you first turned the phone on and did the initial setup? Thanks for your help!
Box was sealed with lenovo sticker's, on 1st boot i was curious about fw and apps that was installed so i skip initial setup and check fw and it was p7c72, google play was in it and few other google apps also some lenovo no chinese apps were installed so i switch off the phone and put simcard and microsd and boot the phone and make initial setup, after it was made i get notification about system update so i made it, after reboot i've go to check security patch i notice that fw version change to p2a42, lte works normal but i don't know how to check which band are used now so (don't know service codes for lenovo), on first battery drainage i made SOT of almost 12h where on my oneplus3 after nugat i get only 3,5 h to 4h max also i wonder if p2 gets nugat and how horrible battery life will be.

Does LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) work on your p2c72? I have bought one yesterday and updated OTA to P2a42_S062_170117_ROW but LTE doesn't seem to work except from shopping mall, where LTE works on Band 3 (1800 MHz).

Try downloading "Network Signal Guru" app from the Google Play store.
This app should be able to display it. If you take a look at the screenshots, it shows LTE Band, which should read "B20 | 800 MHz" in the most of Europe I guess. At least in rural areas, which are usually covered with lower frequencies.
BTW, this app should also be able to display all supported LTE Bands (check the screenshots). It would be most helpful, if you could check it as well.
EDIT: Maybe even simpler is to use "SignalCheck Lite" app from Play store.

T-Mobile User Losing Anything with Unlocked S9?

I've been reading about firmware and how users flashed the T-Mobile Firmware on their S8's to gain some services. Am I missing anything with my S9 and keeping it on the unlocked firmware? I've searched these forums and the web but there are no sound conclusions if I am hurting my service by not flashing the firmware.
Thanks for the help

No. ALL TMobile features work with the US unlocked version. I'm using one myself on tmobile.
The only "feature" you'll be missing is the 600mhz/B71 band on T-Mobile, which is new an somewhat "upcoming" anyways. I think the S9 Tmo is one of the first phones (if not the only phone) to support this band.

The first phone carried by a US carrier to support the 600MHz was actually the LG V30. Since then the Moto Z2 Force, S9, S9+, Note 8, and S8 active all support 600MHz. Last week LG launched the first budget phone to support 600MHz, and that's the LG K30 at $225.
Edit: All, if not almost all of the phones I listed have native support for 600MHz (assuming Snapdragon versions), so all carriers phones if unlocked will be able to take advantage of the 600MHz on T-mobiles network.
Multi line (digits) doesn't appear to work in the unlocked version. The app still functions though, however the experience is so much better when it's baked into the firmware.
I'm on a sm-g960w on Rogers and they have a 2600mhz band that's nice when nobody's on it lol.
I recently flashed over to ARC6 (tmb I think) and then sideloaded an update up to ARDA (may update). My device reads sm-g960u now and I'm wondering if I'll still be able to get on that band.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows, the way I usually measure isn't working and I don't have root.

If you dial *#2263# do you also see US bands enabled like band 28, 71, 14???
If so I'd be willing to take my chances and would flash the U1/U baseband/firmware

How to use Verizon service on unlocked Sprint z2 force? Preferably also with Volte.

I bought a Moto z2 force (Sprint), and I'm wondering how well will Verizon service work? Will HDvoice work, and what's the coverage difference?
Will I have to flash a different baseband?
My goal is to have this phone on Verizon And rooted.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Check your Hardware Specs.

Just bought this Phone yesterday so I will know more later. Check your radio spec's for this phone as a lot of carrier specific devices are built around their spec's. (radio freq, bands used, coding, timing, etc). My Htc is considered a world phone but is missing some Verizon bands that would limit it's use on their network (special features for one band, LTE was another band)
Would probably been easier to just by that Verizon model and Unlock/root/Mod it.
But easy is no fun and that is why we are here.
If You do get it working on V, let us know what you did to get there and how is performance. Good luck

T-Mobile US compatibility of A50 NA/US version

Hey all. I'm looking to pick up a A50 but I'm having difficulty finding information on it's compatibility with T-Mobile. Does anyone here have the 64GB or 128GB variants of the North American A50 and can confirm full compatibility with T-Mobile's LTE network? Also does Wi-Fi calling work?
I'm currently looking at the 64GB model sold by Best Buy and Amazon (model# SM-A505UZKNXAA). I'd like to get the 128GB international model (model# SM-A505UZKNXAA) but I don't think it works on T-Mobile.

VoLTE and VoWiFi are depends on your carrier too. The phone support these, but that's not means T-mobile too.

T-Mobile supports VoLTE and VoWiFi on compatible phones like my Nokia 7.1. Sadly you can only confirm a phone is compatible by entering an IMEI and I don't want to buy this phone just to have to return if it's not supported.
As you can see my version of the phone is FN, but I have VoLTE (Right upper corner).
But are you ok T-Mobile's US network? If not, you can't answer my question.
