Proper 3rd party shortcut to lock screen? - Asus Zenfone 5Z Questions & Answers

Hi,
Iv'e recently purchased the Zenfone 5 (ZE620KL), I had many phones and what i always do is to put a lock screen shortcut in the dock and it always worked flawlessly.
With the Zenfone 5 it doesn't work properly, It might be an Oreo limitation since this is my first phone with Oreo, but once i use the shortcut (there are many apps for that, tried a dozen) it does indeed lock the screen, but it does not allow me to unlock it back with my fingerprint reader.
Can it be adjusted to work properly?
Is that an Oreo limitation or is it ZenUI 5.0?
Thanks

Smart Lock isn't working

So, I just moved from an "old" G Watch to a SW3 and Smart Lock used to work fine, but now it doesn't work at all. I have a LG G4 with LP and SW3 with current software version. Any ideas?
Few checks tot do imo :
Did you add the sw3 as trusted device?
Did you remove the lg from trusted devices?
Its working fine on Sony z1 andere current Nexus 5x
Search for "Trust Agents" in settings on the phone. "Smart Lock (Google)" sometimes has to be activated.
I have a G4 on MM and the SW3. Smart Lock is enabled in the trust agent setting. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. It's the same with location based smart locking aswell as location based en/disabling of wifi. The G4 should stay unlocked while I'm at home and still I quite often have to enter the PIN to unlock it. Annoying.
Since I have that behaviour with both smartlock options the G4 seems to be the problem, not the SW3.
what i can think off based on that, that some energy savings settings are turning some wifi/bluetooth off after some time. That way it would ofcourse not be able to tell the smart unlock should be active.
location based smart unlock is weird by the way. google has created predified 'cells' all over the world, as soon as it thinks you are outside you 'home cell' ,even if you don't., it would stop smart unlock. unpredictable at least. Bluetooth device unlock has been much more consistent as long bluetooth is enabled on the phone/BT device.

Locking with a software button

I encountered an interesting issue, I think it might be a bug. When I use any of the "lock screen" apps (I tried 4 or 5 different ones), the phone cannot be unlocked via fingerprint. If I put my finger on after locking using a software button, it goes straight to PIN screen and does not recognise the fingerprint.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I always liked using a button to turn screen off instead of using the power button but does not seem possible with this phone.

It's not a bug. It's Android 6.0 Marshmallow security feature. It presence on all android devices with fingerprint sensor and Android 6.0
Well.. You can bypass it. but you have to root your device and install xposed. Here is the link! :highfive:

That's interesting, I had an honor 7 with marshmallow on it prior to this and it worked fine with a fingerprint scanner and a software lock.
Not saying you are not right by any means just trying to understand why it worked on the honor and doesn't work on oneplus.
Must have been an implementation on Huawei side. In any case, locking the screen using a double tap on the home button works quite well for me and replaces a software lock 100%.

Cannot unlock screen with fingerprint, after locking it with a shortcut

Hi,
Iv'e owned many phones with many different android versions from Kitkat to Nougat, and while i was changing UI's and launchers every now and then, i always kept 1 thing permanent: I had a shortcut (whether 3rd party or from the launcher) that locked the screen when clicked.
There was never an issue to use this shortcut to lock the screen, and then unlock the screen with the fingerprint reader, there was no waiting time between locking and unlocking and this feature always worked flawlessly.
In my Zenfone 5/Oreo/Zen UI it doesn't work anymore: You can now use one of 2 options, either to lock screen immediately but cannot use fingerprint to unlock afterwards, or to dim the screen which will lock regularly after 5-10 seconds.
Both are the options are annoying, what happened to the way it used to work before?

Can 3rd party apps use fingerprint data if swipe lockscreen set?

Hi,
After setting up your fingerprints are you able to then change the lockscreen type to swipe but still have the option the keep the fingerprint data and 3rd party apps to access it, such as AppLocker?
My girlfriend uses that on her S7 (still on 7.1) and I want to get her an S9 for Christmas on that of course has 8. I know that on my M20P and Pixel 3 running 9.0 that it wont let me change to a non fingerprint lockscreen but keep the data
Thanks,

Sorry, Samsung no longer let's you enroll any kind of biometric data without also enabling lockscreen. If you disable lockscreen all your fingerprint, iris, or facial data is deleted.
What I do is set my S9 lock timer to 30 minutes, which is the longest lock interval. I also activate on body unlock detection. That way during the day I rarely have to unlock my phone. I have it set to use fingerprint or pattern unlock. But due to the 30 minute lock setting it's rarely locks on me. I prefer to use no lock security but this way I can still use fingerprint access for banking and other apps which require secure login. Kind of the best work around at the moment.

Question Smart lock requires extra swipe to home screen

I am using smart lock with a Bluetooth device. On the pixel 5 also running Android 12, the lock screen shows an unlocked icon in place of the fingerprint icon, and only a single swipe is needed to go to the home screen. On the pixel 6 pro, the fingerprint icon is shown instead, and two swipes are needed to go to the home screen.
Anybody also use smart lock and have similar issue?
I use smartlock but it doesn't seem to work well for me. I have enabled trusted places, my Bluetooth devices and onbody detection.
I find myself having to input my pin even when I'm at home most of the time. Sort of can't wait for gravity box to be compatible with A12, as it forces the device to stay unlocked.
