Format SD card as internal storage - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

Anyone figured out how to do this?
I read on the S3 forum that Samsung disables it, but we've (purportedly) figured out a workaround. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s3/help/format-sd-card-internal-storage-t3604464 Perhaps this works for the S4?

Any updates on this with Pie installed?

What are the benefits to using it as internal storage? You can force apps to be moved to SD with the developer options.

[Q] Not able to move Apps to the SD card

Hi
I bought the Note 10.1 with 16 GB memory thinking that I will be able to move the APPS to the external 32 GB memory I had installed. However APP2SD tells me that "the device does not have a real primary external storage or the primary storage is emulated".
I set the install location as 2 through the SDK adb devices command prompt screen. Still I am not getting the option to transfer the APPS to the SD card.
Can someone tell me whether this option can be activated or is it blocked by Samsung. I am able to transfer the APPS to external storage in my HTC Desire phone with ICS update
oh wow, apps2sd doesn't work on the Galaxy S3.
I hope that's not the case for the GN2. Can anyone else confirm?
On my Note 1, I'm currently using Directory bind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
to move stuff off that apps2sd doesn't work with, but it requires root.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/treat-your-sd-card-as-your-real-external-storage-with-swapsd/
is another option, but I'd hate to use that. Internal memory should be much faster than external card memory.

Wrong forum?
Take a look in the note 10.1 forum, under Galaxy Note 10.1 Android Development. There are 2 guides how to move your apps to sd. Though you need root for both i suppose!
And that is the exact reason Google doesn't want OEM's to include expandable storage. When apps are moved to the SD card, they are unable to sync correctly with the OS. SD cards will be a thing of the past within 2 years...
Unable to apps to micro sd card.

I have the GN2, and I can confirm that moving apps to the sd card is not possible. Is there some other program that's needed in order to make moving apps to the sd possible? And advice would be much appreciated.
Instead of starting another thread, I would also like to know the answer to this as I just received my note 2 and I cannot move apps to sd card.
i noticed that too... i wanted to move some of the apps to the sd card but it doesn't have the move to sd card option...

[Q] is it possible to move apps to sd card?

is there a way that i can move my apps to sd card. I tried using app2sd programs but they did not let me move my apps. please help my 16gb internal storage is getting smaller.
thanks

I'm not sure if this is present in stock images, but if you go into System -> Apps and select an app, there should be a "Move to SD card" option in there. (This has, AFAICR, been present in stock Android as of ICS.)

you cannot really move apps to sd cards but there is an app called "gl to sd" it will move gameloft games to the sd card because they can be fairly big in size and also you have to be rooted to use the app
i am on cm10 official.
i heard google and samsung were taking away the feature to move apps to sd card.
any work around with using cm10?

Allow me to preface this by stating that a simple search would have yielded your answer in all likelihood. Please do learn to fish, lest you starve.
There is a method of swapping the internal storage with an SD card via a script, provided you have init.d support. I've tried a variety of ROMs from stock onward and never found an issue with init.d, so it shouldn't realistically matter. Depending upon the ROM, the mounts tend to vary but the script I took and modified accounts for said variations. It's really a rather simple deal, given that you are on CM10 my current iteration should work for you without modification or issue. Be advised that my alterations stem from a script that came from this thread and all credit for the original concept is not due to me, I only modified the script in order to make it compatible with other ROMs and to mitigate the differing mount points. It also goes without saying that I am not responsible for your device melting down or your cat bursting into fire. If you're interested in the modifications I have made to the script let me know and I'll be happy to build a CWM flashable zip and give you further instruction, otherwise see the post previously referenced.
Do also note that the script WILL NOT enable you to move apps to the SD via Settings/Applications, it will basically cause the device to see the SD card as internal storage and the original internal storage as the SD, but only while the device is not in recovery. If you boot into recovery you must remain aware of the fact that your data will be on the external SD as they behave in a flip-flop manner. You must also be aware that you should not remove your SD card while using this modification if the device is on and not in recovery mode, bad things will happen (possibly the end of the world) I realize this was probably more information than you sought but it's better to have too much than not enough in my opinion.

well i think phones that are running ics do not have the ability to move apps to an sd card without some sort of modification

Actually, due to the nature of the way that the S3 handles internal storage, whereby the "SD card" is actually just a mount that's bound to /data/media and not a physically separate storage medium, moving apps to the SD card has never and will not be implemented in the foreseeable future. To attempt to circumvent the fact that the standard method of moving apps from internal to external storage ("Move to SD") is rather misguided as you would gain nothing from having done so since the intent is to conserve space on the internal storage and given that the internal storage and "SD card" reside on the same physical device, you gain nothing. That is why the method I described in my previous post was originally conceived, so that S3 users might have some semblance of moving apps to an external SD and thus freeing up space on the internal storage.

Can I move apps to Sd or have them install there by default

I know this has been asked before on older Galaxy's and I have read the thread. The answers there don't seem to be options on the Note 4 that I have and I am not sure if I'm missing something or if things are different. Basically I want to have apps from from the additional SD card I installed rather than taking up the 32gb internal memory. I've used App manager to move the apps to SD but the bulk of the apps data is still on the internal SD, which defeats the purpose. other threads have suggested apps that do this, but they seem to all require root so they are not an option. Am I missing something or is this really impossible?
Also, when I tried to format the SD card to see if that was a problem, it asked me for a pin. How do I know what this pin is? Thanks.

Merge internal & external memory in Samsung J2 Prime

Hi guys! First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question.
I have a Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime, with 8GB of internal memory. But 8GB is not enough in any way for android, upgrades & apps.
Ok, I read that Android v6.0 has support for merging internal and external memory in the way that Android reconizes it as single storage. My problem is that my phone doesn't show me that option. Just says "Format as portable storage", not “Format as internal” as I read at a forum. I have installed a SD card class 10 but this is not the problem.
This is a Samsung custom setting? I need to root my phone? It's possible to do it?
Thanks for any help!

Yes, Samsung disables this option from all their devices with the excuse being: "If your MicroSD card fails, which is totally common to fail, you will lose all your apps and apps' data" (but in my opinion and a lot of people's opinion, they disable it to force you to buy a device with bigger storage )
There are two ways to do this, with root and without
If you have root, you can use the app "Root Essentials" from the PlayStore. It'll show you step by step on how to set up adoptable storage.
If you do not have root, you have to input some commands via adb, which I do not know how to do. You will have to research this on your own.
But, just as an advice. Even with adoptable storage, it doesn't work as you would expect it to work. Not all apps will be transferred to the external memory and you'll still get the message that you are running out of memory even if you have 7 out of 16 GB used up. It's not that great.
Hello, i would like to ask about this too.
I have adopted a 16Gb sandisk UHS-I SD Card to my 8Gb Samsung J2 Prime G532G, but the storage at file manager is still 8Gb and no SD Card access. BUT at storage settings it shows 13.40Gb used out of 22.80Gb. So, where did the rest go at file manager?

External SD Card

Hello! I have a TMO stock unrooted phone and purchased a micro sd 64G. I have done some digging but am coming up with nothing. Are we not able to format as internal OR move apps to SD?? The official online help manual for phone clearly shows that I should be able to format as internal but I do not have that option. I have also ticked the option in dev options to force allow apps to be written to SD but it made no difference. Am I missing something? Any input would be appreciated
**nevermind looks like it is basically unsupported now, don't know why they left the option in dev opts tho**
I think that Android Oreo is the answer. In Oreo on default app to SD is imposible. Probably you read manual for Z2 with Android N..In N this was posible.
