phhusson Android P 9.0 Treble GSI (WiFI Working) - Xiaomi Mi 8 SE Guides, News, & Discussion

Decided to create a new thread on the SE forums since we now have our own forum.
So phhusson made a treble GSI for Android P and I got further with it than with any of the other GSIs.
WIFI and BLUETOOTH both work with this GSI.
Here's what I did to get it working (your mileage may vary and I am not responsible for any broken/ bricked devices as a result of these instructions, ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A FULL TWRP BACKUP OF YOUR DEVICE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS):
Unlock bootloader.
Download the latest TWRP from here and flash it. Make sure you're running at least version 3.2.3.
Boot into TWRP, tap on Wipe and then tap on "Format Data" and enter yes. Once it's done, reboot into recovery.
Next flash the latest Xiaomi.EU MiUI 10 Beta rom from here. Download it, transfer it to your phone's storage and then use TWRP to install the zip.
After it has installed, tap on Wipe on the TWRP main menu and swipe to factory reset.
Next flash the treble GSI for Lineage 15.1 from here. Download it, transfer to your phone's storage and then use TWRP to install the image file by tapping on Install, then "Install Image" on the bottom right and then select the Lineage image you transferred earlier. Select the "system" partition on the next screen and install.
Now reboot your phone and wait for Lineage to boot up. Once it has booted successfully, reboot into recovery. Use TWRP to factory reset your device again.
Now follow the steps for an A-Only device on this article
*BUT BEFORE YOU REBOOT, GO INTO THE ADVANCED MENU ON TWRP AND TAP ON "INSTALL ROOT"*. Once Magisk has been installed, reboot into system and hopefully you should boot. If not, try rebooting again and it should work.
Bugs (that I know of):
Audio is really broken and sounds horrible even with headphones plugged in.
You can fix media audio only by flashing the ViPER4Android module through Magisk Manager.
This doesn't fix it for ringtone/notification or alarms though.
FIX FOR NOTCH:
https://github.com/pravsterrr/treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8se/blob/master/dist/treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8se.apk?raw=true
Download the APK.
Boot into TWRP.
Mount vendor partition.
Use ADB to move the APK to "/vendor/overlay/"
let me know if you find anything.

I'm not responsible for any damage to your device of any sort.
By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.
Process at your own risk!
This firmware was developed for the p905. It doesn't apply to the p905v at this time because it's bootloader locked and a custom recovery isn't possible.
If you want to check firmware - please make backup. Better to store all partitions, at least efs and may be modem.
I'm using nano gapps.

Thank you very much just flashed it on my P905 running good so far!
Is P905 compatible with P900? I'm not familiar with the pertinent diffrences, if any.
I have recognized 3 things :
The notification ton is playing endless in a loop (e. g. happen after install the App (Battery Charge Limit) and connect the Power.... also after reboot :if the charging Level reached... also after reboot: from the trustagebt
The Mic gain is too low for : sound recorder, recorder from WhatsApp, Phone application from WhatsApp, Livechat(Audio) from Postident.
I try the app Microphone Amplifier. Till a little Mic gain was added, the Record in this app was. ok. Without gain, the volume was to low. Uncomfortable there is. no way to save the gain in the System out from this app.
OK Google for example works without any issues
The P905 does not react anymore of the magnet Flip from the cover to switch the screen on/off

Thanks for feedback.
Flip - I missed that moment, when I added fixes in kernel for p905. Evening will check flip and build
Audio - look like I took a bit more, already discarded audio fixes. Will check today evening.
playing endless in a loop - need to check it in logs, a bit later, may be today\tomorrow.

This is twrp question (it cannt return name). Look like you have old one.
In any way - right now you can remove check:
extract from crDroidAndroid-9.0-20190217-viennalte-v5.1.zip file: \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
remove first 2 lines (assert(getprop("ro.produ......................................)

Thanks. I opted for installing your TWRP and now it does flash and everything works very well (including hotspot), except the microphone which records too low (I suggest you to look for noise cancelation problems).
I believe, I must check, which version I've installed CM or CRDrois... I'm not sure in this moment... Both versions were released at the same time
OK, the first flash from yesterday was CM.
Today I try this Rom:
Simular with sound loop, if I connect the Power for charging (Google is updating all Apps) Only chance to get it silent : push all to 0 (sounds) the tone is parallel to all other sounds.
With this rom I haven't get Magisk Manager to defekt root (Magisk 18.1). It wasn't an issue with CM. With this rom the manager doesn't detect root???
Maybe it's about the app SuperSu from Playstore? Haven't test it right now. I just flash the ROM one again (wipe cache/data/dalvik) Internal SD not. With CM wasn't it possible to mount an USB Stick via OTG cable.
I try to install SuperSU (root & app) afterwards and also to mount an external USB.......
Short update ;
In this rom I can disable the charging notification... (CrDroid settings, near on right hand) the loop is away... that's the good news.
The bad one : I don't receive root access : nor via SuperSu nor via Magisk... Any Hints? A short time I could see teh root settings in the Dev menu, but the corresponding apk did not see root in anycase

Yes, in CrDroid no root options in devs.
But latest Magisk is working great. Install latest Magisk 18.1, then boot and manually install Magisk Manager apk file.
You can do check "safery net" in the magisk manager - it will complete pass.
P.s. mic fixed, flip should fixed too (but I cannt check it right now) - I can make small update for draft check.

I have used the same Version.... but the Manager 7.0 doesn't detect the Root (18.1) . I have flashed 18.1 some times, reboot ... the Manager didn't saw root. I checked this 3 times ... in between the CM Version ... no luck ?!?!?
Does you install root systemless or let you TWRP patch the System partion ?
Just installed this, Netflix doesn't seem to be working. Can't install it from the play store. (The app is not compatible with this version)

Just checked in the latest 20190219:
1. install crdroid, magisk
2. load into the firmware. install the magisk manager
3. back to recovery and reinstall magisk
4. load firmware
Yesterday, I forgot my eyeglas at work... so only reflash a backup was possible.
In the evening, I give the 19.02 Version a new try.
I'll believe, I know why Magiask Manager didn't see the root: There was also a Bug-Report in the Magisk-Thread, that, if the old Manager is in the Background, the new Manager didn't see Root. On other Hand, I've read, that Magisk dedect root simular as SuperSu. The SuperSu Manager was automaticaly installed from Google Store during Setup the P905 at the first Startup.... I don't should Forget to uninstall SuperSu after first boot

Same as it was in CM 18 (Orego) I've download the apk direct form Netflix ( you can found the link via help on the Netflix HP )
https://netflixhelp.s3.amazonaws.com/netflix-4.16-200217-release.apk
New try with Version 2
Magisk is woerking after uninstall SuperSu
FlipCover Witz Magnet works
Problems:
After each reboot, the Tablett forgot the Standard Launcher (Nova) and New keyboard(Swiftkey)
If the Tablett shoot down with power cable, the shoot down looks like a litte bit irretation
Also it is not possible to Boot the Tablett Düring active charging.
The charging loop sound just be disabled in the settings
Netflix was installed Form the APP store before rooting, hide Magisk, an nupdate was received, working
Thats the first impression after a few Minuten
Usb OTG looks like, that it doesn't work.
There is in this moment no reaction, if I insert an USB with an OTG cable.
Maybe I must change something in the Dev-Settings?

The notification Ton has a problem at all, not only with the charging cable. If a notification occurred, the ton is playing in a loop till I pull down the tiles/notification from the top.
I would expect, that this ton is played only one time

- Flashlight is dead in some apps. This is because Xiaomi camera blobs have issues with Camera2API (HAL3) which is enabled by default, as per A12's requirements.
- Some videos (.webm files) will not play correctly. This is due to some underlying issue with the hardware VP9 decoder

Ahhhh perfect.
I clean installed this rom yesterday and so far loved it. With linked gapps.
It has been very smooth and bugless.
Battery consumption looks very good, let's see it in a few more days.
The camera, however, is very simple and doesn't have normal options such as panorama.
I don't know if we can have another camera version flashable.

If by the keypad you mean the Gboard (Google keyboard): you can go to Gboard preferences and turn off "haptic feedback on keypress"

Hi LinkBoi,
Is it possible (if you have time) to make a flashable zip of Gcam for twrp to replace the original Camera? without root

Hi, just to confirm.. The first "format data" includes system as well or just the "data" check box ?
and if so, could please explain why not system ? Thank you.

I believe that is "format data" before you enter to the advanced wipe like wipe system and wipe data.

Hello and thank you for your work. I have a bug to report about incoming calls. When I get a call, phone rings as it should be but sometimes screen does not wake up on its own and if I try to wake it up manually with power button, the call disappears entirely. Phone keeps ringing but other than that the call can not be seen on the screen. After the caller hangs up I get the "missed call" notification. This happens not so rarely so it kinda makes the rom unusable for me. Funny thing is that same problem happened with some other roms as well both android 11 and 12 builds. I tried to find a solution for this online but I could not find anything, am I the only one who is having this problem?

Right. There shouldn't be a print. First you need to select the unlock/encryption method. This is the method if the fingerprint doesn't work.

Great, thank you for your clarification. I still face an issue after adding my fingerprint. That the fingerprint doesnt show on lockscreen. It shows only the pin unlock. So probably there something wrong in my update. I will try clean install and let you know.

pretty much very stable rom... working everything very smothly...but one issue...after usung 1 or 2 shot with gcam its freeze the cam...and then can't open the gcam anymore...
Unfortunately I can't install it. It would be great if there was a zip file that can be installed with twrp. Thanks for your effort anyway.
after using 2-3 days.. i found some bug
1. after activated vibration mode no vibration icon showing in status bar
2. gcam not working (tried many version)
and after some times phone autometically try to reboot itself but stuck at mi logo.. have to forcefully tap on power button to reboot manually (happened every time i install different version of gcam) i had same issue in lineageOS 19
3. no ota updater option (maybe because its unofficial or i don't know)
4. don't have the option double tab on status bar area to lock screen
5. not showing am/pm in time

1 and 5 are AOSP/PE bugs, hopefully will be fixed in QPR2 release
2 don't use Gcam for now, i've fixed hdr+ photos on recent Gcam version in my internal builds but it's still crashing causing a reboot after a minute, i had no time to inspect yet because i was focused on EAS and power HAL port
3 correct, no OTA update app on unofficial builds
4 i'm not 100% sure but if i remember well it's a feature of plus version

Thanks for sharing your Mi5 rom with us.
Since Android 12 the Mi5 phone is missing a working TWRP recovery, with support of the fbe encryption. This prevents many users from trying all the new roms, because there is no way to take full backups.
Can you tell me what is the reason?
I would be glad to help the development, but I don't know where to start. If I had someone who can guide me in the process I could do my part. Being part of a team would be ideal.

Unfortunately Pixel Experience doesn't support natively TWRP compiling, and i don't have space on my NVME for another build enviroment. Also as far as i know they did not release yet an Android 13 recovery, they are working right now on it, but i don't know if works. Do you know if TWRP supports FBE on other devices? if TWRP supports FBE then best thing would be compile TWRP in an Android 12 build enviroment with a 4.4 kernel with FBE support. you can use my repos or los repos, it' the same. The only requested changes are a makefile with a basic conf for mi5 and convert the fstab in a compatible version for TWRP
@mrinfinity0007 not fixed yet but probably i've understood what's happening... Could you please try to put selinux in permissive mode and use the camera? You can do with adb:
Code:
adb root
adb shell setenforce 0
adb shell getenforce
The last command checks that selinux is correctly disabled, the output must be 0 or permissive
@-+BB+-
Thank you. Yes, from what I see TWRP supports FBE and A12 on other devices.
But I guess that porting it on our device is not that easy as one could think.
My problem is finding detailed guides to start understanding the process, or at least having a overall view.
Anyway I don't want to post too many OT messages on your thread.

If your goal is to flash the ROM without format the internal memory won't work, you may be able to flash the zip but after the flash you'll be forced to format the internal memory without fbe support

Yes it's a root shell, you have root permissions only with ADB, not in your phone. If you want to roll back to selinux enforcing and stop the rooted shell simply reboot the phone, that changes doesn't survive after the reboot
@JackSlaterIV found it, it's old and some things may be slightly different but this is a good tutorial.
Here's the link of the minimal manifest 12.1 is the correct branch but decryption is WIP at the moment, don' t think will work, unless you don't set a password/PIN/pattern, in that way should be fine
@mrinfinity0007 never mind, i've fixed It, Gcam was crashing because it was trying to use hexagon for HDR+, but SELinux was blocking it. Now it's wotking fine even in enforcing mode
PS: i've decided to upload the latest personal build i made, some thing may change because i'm still testing them, but more or less (on device side) this will be the next official release when PE devs will merge QPR2 changes and feb security patch.
Here's the direct link
And here's the changelog:

- Synced code with latest PE changes

- Ported Stune Boost and use it as default
- Fixed almost all compiling warns
- Ported misc optimisations from infinity kernel

- Misc fixes from upstream

Device Tree

Waiting for stylus fix
Waiting for the stylus support. Thanks!
Thanks!
Will this stay official. and have a Long Life time?
edit : Full OTA supported?
Works great, only had it running for 2 days, but love it so far.
Pro:
- super smooth, had some lag on MIUI und even Arrow in some of my apps, all good here
- WiFi works fine, had some problems with that before
- Netflix reports widevine L1
- saftynet passes, even banking app likes it (no root though)
- sound: well equalizer in YouTube music work, which is enough for me
Cons
- had to setup face recognition, cancel only brought me back to Google setup, which then wants to setup face unlock again
Big thanks to devs!
Hi, I really like the rom, everything works fine for now but I noticed two shortcomings,
AwakenOS customizations and features: the rom is missing various features, such as floating windows and some customizations (i think)
Audio: the audio quality is a bit poor and low, i would recommend the developer to add an app like dolby atmos or something else for enhancing the audio quality.
Fast charge: the tab doesnt charge at 20-30w
This is my feedback, I'm not forcing
anyone to follow my advice, but I think this rom has a lot of potential on this device.
Found a lil bug: the battery widget doesnt work, it shows an infinite “loading” screen.

Hello. Did you install this ROM? Everytime I try to do this command: adb sideload AwakenOS.zip I get xfer 0 and it immediately stops. Maybe you can help me...
Edit: I've accidentally downloaded the version for another device. I thought it's the correct one because the download link automatically redirects you to the file. So to all others: Pay attention which File you are downloading.
miracast isnt working how to fix
I hope this helps anybody: The ROM seems to be the best one for this device so far for me. The developer says the Pen doesn't work but it does work for me and i don't know why. The keyboard actually didn't work, even after flashing the Permessive File in Magisk which was attached. It only caused a bootloop. For anyone who wants to use the Xiaomi Keyboard anyway: There is still a way to do that. You just need to have your device rooted. I did it easily via Sideload. Just my attached file. It worked for me after rebooting twice.
And maybe somebody wans to know... I use those Magisk Modules which are very important for me because they add some essential feautures. They are attached.
1. BlockAds: Removes many ads systemwide.
2. Magisk Bootloop Protector: Turns off every Magisk Module when a Bootloop which is caused by Magisk is detected. The attached ones are safe but I recommend using it if you install other Magisk Modules.
3. Magisk Xiaomi Keyboard: Enables the Xiaomi Keyboard in any other ROM than MIUI.
4. Mi Sound: Enables MIUI Dolby Atmos for better Sound Quality and adds the equalizer.
5. Miui Core: You need it to use the Mi Sound Magisk Module
6. Xperia Music: Adds the Xperia Music Player which is usefull for me because there isn't any integrated Music Player in this ROM
Hope it helps anybody
IMPORTANT EDIT: It seems like MIUI Core and Sound Module doesn't work with Magisk Delta and somebody has bricked his device by using the Modules! I can only confirm that they work for me and I even attached some Screenshots in another comment so you can see that they work.
YOU ARE CHOOSING TO USE THESE MODULES AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEVICE BRICKS!
EDIT 2: Now someone else didn't got it working until trying to use Magisk Delta. I'm was using Magisk 25.2 and now 26.1 and both are working. It means you need to look yourself what works for you and what not. Anyway you may need more then one try because you may get stuck in a bootloop and need to reflash your device.

Working. It's just a bit slow like normal but perfect for movies, documents and things like that.

Sorry, I don't use this app and cannot help you. But the integrated Screen Cast works so maybe you try that.

Do you have a Smart TV (Android TV)? Just go to the Main Menu and it should work. It has listed my TV immediately.
