Nvidia Shield + Sonoff - Shield Android TV Accessories

I have my Nvidia Shield plugged into an old dumb TV with no CEC. Currently, to watch something I have to turn on the shield (i.e. press any button on the Shield remote) and also manually turn on the TV. The Shield is the only device connected to my TV, so I would like the TV to turn on automatically when the Shield turns on and off when the shield standbys. I assume this can be done using a smart plug like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonoff-Ass...=1535040440&sr=8-1&keywords=sonoff+smart+plug
or similarly, a switch like this:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/SON...9ad2-4b29-b4ba-e032c30a1f8a&priceBeautifyAB=0
I either need the Shield to tell the Sonoff to turn on when the Shield does (and off when the Shield standbys), or something else to monitor the status of the Shield, and turn on and off the Sonoff as required. Does anyone know the best way to do this?

You can use a sonoff SV. It uses low voltage 5-24v to trigger the relay. Connect that to a usb on your shield and it should power on your tv when the shield turns on

[Q] New FireTV Stick, Won't Start

I have an Amazon Fire TV stick. I plugged it into the HDMI port. I tried using the port on the TV and the port on the Set Top Box. On both of them I go to the remote, I press TV Input at the bottom of the remote, by repeatedly pressing TV Input I am able to get to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. But I'm unable to select either HDMI port. I tried pushing OK/Enter and TV Input again. It doesn't work. How do I fix this?
I have VZ P265v2 RC
and Motorola QIP7232 set top box
The power is fine.
When I have the TV monitor plugged into the SetTopBox, On the screen I see "Verizon press menu to watch FIOS TV ..."
I press "TV Input" on the remote and I see Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component
By repeatedly pressing "TV Input" I navigate to the option I want (Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component)
If I just stay at HDMI1 or HDMI2 it doesn't seem to select it, and the FireTV stick doesn't start. I have the stick plugged into the USB so the power should be fine. Is there a way for me to confirm that. There is no little LED or anything. I played with the FireTV remote, but got no response.
This also happens if I press Menu to go to FIOS TV and then press TV Input.
Then I unplugged the set top box from the TV (so it's a "dumb" monitor). Then I followed the instructions below. Still no success. I have a "no signal" message on the tv screen.
Instructions which didn't help, yet
1. Remove Fire TV Stick from TV HDMI Port, just make sure TV is off
2. Unplug power source from Fire TV
3. Wait 15 minutes
4. Turn on TV
5. Plug in power source to the Fire TV Stick then insert to prefer HDMI 1 or 2 or 3
6. Press any button on the Fire TV remote, wait 30 sec on each input until you see the picture on the screen.
My post on the Verizon forum http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-T...t-HDMI-Amazon-Fire-TV-Stick/m-p/776546#M54911
Use the Original TV Remote
I called Verizon, the tech told me to switch to HDMI1 using the remote that came with the TV (not the Verizon remote). That worked.
I have a firestick plugged into a 42 inch lg tele. The stick has always worked on hdmi socket 1. Went to use tonight and all of a sudden it's saying no signal on screen. Checked the power that's working, why is it saying no signal???

Maybe went to "sleep", did you press the round button on your firestick remote?
BTW if this doe not work unplug power cord and plug it back in.
Try the following with your Samsung TV: On the TV, go to Menu, System, and then General. Locate the tab called "Game Mode" and turn Game mode "ON". (Most games are connected thru HDMI and changing this setting apparently enables theses ports better access to the Fire TV Stick) After you have the stick connected and setup properly and have actually used it, you may actually be able to turn off the Game mode and have it work properly. Good Luck!!

Shield + Harmony Hub...

Anyone using the new Shield with a Harmony Hub? I have it all set up, the controller works great, I now have only one to replace 4. However, it works via bluetooth... so when you ask Echo to 'turn on the Android Box', she can't get the Shield to turn on. She can turn everything off, just not on... When I get home this evening, I will try to edit the activity so that the Android Box never turns off... it doesn't consume much energy, so shouldn't be a problem & it should be primed to come on with the voice command.
Funny thing is, that with one press of the button on the remote, all turns on perfectly... Anyone else who has it working, please let me know.
how did you set it up, scan for wifi or manually? I haven't gotten around to it yet but on the nvidia forums people have said it doesn't map the OK button properly. OK and select are apparently concurrently sent by the shield remote, but the Harmony only uses select. some apps use OK while others use select. some have mentioned setting it as the Nexus player instead.
as for your question, like I said I haven't set up my shield yet but with my fire TV I can tell Alexa to turn it on and all my components turn on properly. if the fire TV is asleep hitting any button on the Harmony (mapped to a fire TV command) will wake it
Is there difference between shield one and two?
I have a hub working fine with shield 1. It is just a stand alone hub...no remote was included and entire setup was done via the harmony phone app. It turns on/off perectly along with my TV and home theater receiver using either the app or with my Amazon echo: "Alexa, turn on shield"....lol, I love it!

Set it up by inputting the model number, after setup it asked me to pair via BT. My OK button is working well, as is the controller... I've done a load of setting up, kodi etc. & haven't had any issues with button maps. It still won't turn on by voice command, but that's not the end of the world.
I just got mine to work, I said "Alexa turn on shield" and both TV and shield came on.
So... my Shield 2017 got stuck in a loop of rebooting... it would turn on for a few seconds and then turn off again. Happened while I was watching youtube videos, once when watching stuff on Kodi and also when I had left it idle...
I tried disconnecting from the harmony in case that was the cause. Deleted some new apps I had installed... but eventually did a factory reset this morning before work. I'll check it again this evening for the same behaviour.
Anyone experienced similar?
Is anyone else having trouble with the select (OK) button working on the amazon video app? I can get into the app, but once I move over to select a show/movie, the OK button won't work.

yep, same here.
That was actually fixed a couple days ago. You will need to delete and re-add the shieldTV device inside Harmony to fix it.
Thanks I'll check it out.
I'm curious to know how you got the harmony hub to recognize the shield's Long press button functionality ?
IE: Long pressing the back button on the shield remote inside Kodi brings up the context menu.
[EDIT] -- PLEASE DISREGARD QUESTION ABOVE. Long pressing harmony remote Select/OK button replicates function.

Hi Sean have you tried "ok google launch Kodi" when the shield is in standby mode?

Fire Stick and Harmony Hub not working

I have a weird issue with my new Harmony Hub remote and the Fire Stick. If the Stick is awake, the Harmony Hub can run the "Watch Fire Stick" activity flawlessly.
However, if the Stick is asleep, I get a black screen. Everything switches properly but the Stick doesn't wake up. It also becomes unresponsive to the Stick's remote. If I hold down the Up and Reverse buttons, I can force it into the resolution search mode. These modes seem to get the Stick to work. The only other way I've found to get the Stick to respond is to unplug it and plug it back in.
Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Deep-sleep / doze standby or to disable network connection in pseudo standby

I want to have the the shield offline when the tv is in standby. I can understand, that if user are using plex server or other 24/7 services the need the shield all the time online.
But there should be a setting to get the shield in a standby without activities and internet connection (LAN / WiFi must be off for security reason)
I know it is possible in Android TV OS. I am using a Sony Android TV. After pressing the power button the TV sreen turns off and the tv is for 5 minutes active. Then it turns into deep sleep and consumes 0.3W, the LAN / Wifi connection is turned off.
Maybe there are some settings that can be set to get a deep sleep in actual shield firmware, but till now i did not find them. Or at least it would be good to disable the network connection when the shield goes to its pseudo standby (green LED off).
I reported this issue to the support, but this answer: The system behaves as expected. I got a suggestion to power down the shield.
We are living in 2018, not in 1998. Its is very awkwardly to power down the Shield via Settings / Info for a save power down before unplugging the power supply. And then to plug to power supply before using the Shield.
There is a HDMI-CEC standard which can do that, same as my AVR do. The AVR powers up and down together with the TV. And in its standby the AVR has no internet connection.

Change input when wake up from sleep

Can Amazon fire tv stick 4k automatically change input when is waken up from sleep and how to set this?
If pressing the home key doesnt do it already I doubt it. My tank and tv combo does it if I turn the tv on with home button on remote. Goes right to the launcher no matter what input I turn it off at. I think its mostly whether your tv can do it or not.
Oh yeah, make sure CEC is enabled on tv and fire stick.
Earlier when i have gaming console, my tv automatically change input when console is turn off and on.
Why now this dont work?
