New device Anti Roll-Back question - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello XDAers, I just unboxed my Redmi Note 5 PRO (M1803E7SG) and the first thing I wanted to do, after unlocking the bootloader of course, is installing a custom ROM. But all this talk and bricked phones, due this Anti Roll-Back feature has me a little confused, even though I did my research on the subject.
My Redmi came out-of-the-box with:
Android Version : 8.1.0 OPM1.171019.011
MIUI Version : MIUI Global 9.5 | Stable 9.5.13.0(OEIMIFA)
Baseband Version : 660_GEN_PACK-1.147555.0.150932.1
Kernel Version : 4.4.78-perf+
Android Security Patch Level : 2018-05-01
Should I not upgrade and wait for my unlock pass? I have read that my version should not have the anti roll-back feature implemented.

Yep, your device is ARB 3. You can easily check yourself with "fastboot getvar anti". Do not upgrade MIUI, or you will get ARB 4 which will make things more difficult in the future.

you have ARB3... and it doesnt matter only difference with ARB3 and ARB4 is that you cant roll back.. ARB4 have fixes and uptodate firmware.. as for custom roms . only thing is you cant use command to install twrp. you need boot command and then manually install twrp.

Thank you all for your answers, greatly appreciated! By coincidence XDA also posted this article, which helps a lot. As I have to understand, I will not need any extra "dummy" images prior to installing TWRP and as I want to install AOSP Roms only, I won't have any issues like bricking my device.

Arb 3 , you not need flash dummy antirbypass when install twrp .
Aosp rom not have firmware arb , you are safety

After unlocking BL and installing TWRP, you can still install newer MIUI roms as long as they are firmware-less (which do not include ARB).

I see.. Thank you all for the info. I now need to wait for the unlock procedure. By the way MIUI is kind of growing in me, I also think that I'm going to lose my warranty when I flash a custom ROM. But I have 60 days (give or take) to make up my mind, till Xiaomi lets me unlock the bootloader, so...

Error 68006 unlock request and MIUI 10 Global

Hi guys.
The MIUI 10 Global, which is already roll-up, will soon be released. According to the new policies of Xiaomi, there is the risk that my Mi6, born as China but arrived with the global stable, goes into brick.
Is the risk real or does it only affect 2018 devices?
I wanted to try to unlock the boot loader in order to have 0 risks, but it gives me error 68006. I have read some guides (also on XDA) where I would solve with the developer. I tried to install the 8.4.19 based on MIUI 9, but it gives me an error. Installing the latest beta on MIUI 10, do I have the same risks as installing the global stable?
Thanks to all those who will give me a tip.

you will need to go global dev rom (miui 9) and then you can bind your account and after 3days (for me atleast) or up to 1-2months you will be able to unlock your device, my device was unlocked but i relocked it, but i can easily re-unlock it. Good luck.

Xiaomi Mi8 Lite Pie Update ( unofficial news )

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Android 9 Pie update :
Android 9 Pie update expected in Q1 2019
Beta version may roll out before the end of 2018
As already pointed out, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes preinstalled with Oreo 8.1 and thus is entitled to an update to Android 9 Pie, probably the one and only OS upgrade the device will ever see. Xiaomi hasn’t said it publicly, but we expect a beta version to roll out before the end of 2018 followed by a stable released later in Q1 2019.
Of course, the stable Pie update will have MIUI 10 running on top.
Hello,
Global beta ROM is now officialy available, according to this article the beta version 8.12.13 is under android pie https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-8-lite-android-pie-beta-china/?nocache=1
Even if it says that you need bootloader unlocked, I checked on the official website and saw it was available as a global version, here's the link http://en.miui.com/download-346.html#552 (and if you want, here's the changelog http://en.miui.com/thread-4885974-1-1.html)
Since I only have my mi 8 lite in a few days (tomorrow hopefully), I could not test it myself, if nobody does before I'll confirm as soon as possible
Tell me if I'm making any mistake
Have a nice day

question about switching ROM while using Xiaomi.eu with ARP

Hello. I have been using Xiaomi.eu 20.6.18 based on MIUI 12.1
In a few days I think that they will release MIUI 12.0 based stable release but my phone has ARP so I think that downgrading will brick it, don't it?
Anyway, this weekly ROM is working well at the moment but I would like to use the stable version someday. I have some doubts so I will put numbers in them:
1. Can I go back to MIUI 12.0 based ROM while using MIUI 12.1 based ROM or not? without triggering anti-rollback
2. Can I switch to Pixel Experience (for example) which is using Android 10? It is a newer version of Android but I don't know how MIUI ARP handles it
3. If the point 2 answer is 'yes', I suppose that ARP is gone (at least Xiaomi's one) so, can I install Xiaomi.eu MIUI 12.0 from Pixel Experience? (I will be downgrading I know)
Thanks all of you for your future answers, and sorry for the number of questions. Any doubt about my explanation or something just ask
Arb only matters if u go back to very old version of miui ie, 9 and some version of miui 10....it doesn't matter with custom ROMs also...u can also check ur current arb status
No arb was implemented with miui 9.5.19 (global stable), so u can go till this version without bricking ur phone.
As u r on latest beta u have an index value of 4.

Yes u can go easily.
I will recommend to go with fast boot method if u plan returning to miui 11
(I've used miui 12 20.6.18 eu build and successfully returned to miui 11 without bricking)

Yes u can use the recovery method for returning back to miui 11.
Why i was recommending the fast boot method?
Bcoz I've seen if u flash global miui after flashing china based/eu roms, u cannot change ur region to other country other than china. Obviously this can be fixed by editing build.prop or flash region fix but u will have to root in the 1st case.
But u can try recovery method brother.
Yes miui 12 is better than 11 bcoz of new privacy features, ios style control center, no miui optimization api.

Stock Redmi Note 8 Pro - Update not possible

Hi,
using a complete stock Redmi Note 8 Pro. Installed with FW 12.0.5.0 (A10) Stable. All stock nothing changed or unlocked.
It is not possible to update this phone to any newer FW Release
Tried all existing newer Releases (12.5.2.0, 12.5.3.0, .... 12.5.7.0). It is EU Model.
Error Message:
Sorry, flash to this stable Version is not allowed.
Miui Version: MIUI Global 12.0.6 Stable - 12.0.6.0 (QGGEUXM)
Found some other People with the same issue on german Forum, but nobody found a solution for this. Maybe here is someone who can help.
Just unlock bootloader and lock it with newer version if you want...
And there're some tricks on YouTube that can flash recovery file with that updater. Try to find it
