Step count - Samsung Galaxy Watch

As has been well documented, the step counter won't kick in until at least 15 steps have been taken but at work, I do a LOT of small walks, usually about 8-12 steps and so a large chunk of my daily steps aren't included. Is there any way this can be changed? I have seen the notes for the upcoming firmware update which says issues with S Health and steps will be addressed (I've still not received this-is everyone else in the same boat?) but not sure if this will be sorted then. I've seen the recommendation for turning off exercise tracking but with no improvement

same
Same problem here

Same... We hope for a fix, I think is a software problem..

I think you may not know how it works. The sensors will record all your movement and only after a certain trigger (not sure what exactly) it will analyze a batch of information from the sensors, determine what was a step or not and then add the number to your daily total.
The step counter in Samsung phones also work this way

Yeah same problem here, on my note 9 the steps counter works fine. It even triggers with 1 step.

I dont have a Note 9 but both my S4 and S7 worked like my watch, they register steps in batch.
I may get a S9 this month and will report back.

I have Gear S3 and ordered Galaxy watch. The steps are updated on the watch in batches only. Reason is until you check your watch is no point in updating the watch with the steps. It could be one of the battery optimization technique

both the app (on Samsung's phones) and the watches arent increasing the number when moving around my office even when Im looking at the counter.
Probably more a question of battery saving like you wrote.

Well the sensors aren't working correctly in one device as can be seen in the screenshots and I'm pretty sure it's the phone as the watch doesn't detect steps when the phone does. There's quite a large discrepancy too as I'm missing about ⅓ of my step count. The screenshots show my steps this morning with my phone in my pocket for the same duration as the watch was on my wrist

My watch counter is almost identical to what I get with my Garmin Vivoactive 3 and Im pretty sure it would match my old SGS7 app.

Then you're lucky and you're not experiencing the issue the rest of us are ?

i have just noticed same issue today, but agree I get step counts in batch. whats also odd, small steps are not even counted, only firm steps like while walking are included. hope next update will fix this

Yeah, I get somewhere between 30% and 50% of the number of steps and floors I got on my Gear S3. It's really annoying. I have posted on Samsung + and was asked to submit some information for the "specialists". I am waiting on an update on it and was just told by support they do not have a fix or an official response yet. The more people complain in the community on Samsung + the better I would think.

This has been an issue with the gear s3 since it was out. There will never be a fix as samsung dont care. I thought this would of been ironed out with the new galaxy watch or at minumum with tizen 4.
Sensors are all un-accurate.
Nobody should buy these watches untill they sort it out, i was gutted i bought mine when i found out everthing about it would be wrong

[Q] upgradeability ,text sharpness and screen burn in?

hi,
as someone who wants to finally board the android train, and is particulary impressed by the note's concept, i was waiting for thw GN2 to be avilablele, but i have a few questions:
1. i intend to use my next device for approximately 2-3 years. i've read here about concerns regarding the GN2's "outdated" hardware. normally it wouldn't bother me, but it's my understanding that the A15 is a huge leap forward, and in light of HTC's announcement about updating only to 2012 devices, i wonder if the A15's could become the new standard and when key lime pie (or the next one) comes, it would be too demanding in samsung's eyes and it won't be officially supported. in addition, some devs. dropping development for exynous based phones combined with the fact that afaik, CM doesn't support the s-pen's features (which are a main part of why i chose this device) may leave it behind for me. is it reasonale to expect at least 2 years of support by samsung?
2. has anyone used the handwriting recognition to solve math problems (i.e. infinitisimal calculus)? does it work well?
3. how much time can i keep the screen on wih a still background before i risk screen burn in?
4. does the screen appear not so sharp while viewing text, due to the somewhat low pixel density?
5. i've read here a comment about the note 3 supposedly released on march 2013. is that a popular\ reasonable opinion?
thanks a lot for the patience reading this post, and in advance for your much needed help!!
Two years of support will definitely happen. The old Note 1 is still getting updates, and recently includes the multi-tasking sidebar.
I've used the handwriting with equation inputs. It does not solve calculus for you. You just get to input it.
Not sure about burn in. But on HDAMOLED screens. I've heard upwards of 2 years on moderate usage.
The PPI thing is personal preference. I came from iPhone 4, and while the Note 2 PPI is lower. It does make up with its monster display.
Note 3 rumours need to be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't see it happening. Although anything can happen. There are credible reports of Apple releasing i5S as soon as feb or march.
I can only comment on text sharpness. And in my opinion it is perfectly fine. Words still look great when zoomed in etc. All the round letters look round abd not jagged

that's very reassuring. does "support" usually mean implimentation of certain features or the full ver. of android?

i read about the partnership with wolfram alpha, since i check many of my results on their site and given the note's ability to recognize handwriting, i thought it would save me a lot of time. is it not possible or did you not try it on wolfram alpha?

full version of android. seems like my old galaxy s2 will still receive full jelly bean even though it is 1 1/2 years old. Samsung is actually quite good with updates compared to other oems (except google and apple of course)
I used s note with wolfram alpha a little. It does work flawlessly for what I tried. Didn't try it excessively though.

thanks for the rapid responses!
since it's pretty much why i need the s pen, can anyone with n7100 try to write some short random integral/ derivative with Exponentiation with the s-pen to see if wolfram can use it? it would erase every shred of doubt i have, and assert this phone as the chosen one..

A little shocked / concerned about some performance issues

A little disclaimer: I'm not entirely sure this is the right place for the post, if it's not any mod feel free to move it I found a bunch of similar posts under this section after a quick search so I decided to post it here; once that said let's move on. After some months of using the HTC 10 and after months of not having any accidents, I finally decided to send it to SAT to fix some scratches the phone has on the back and some light bleeding on the left side of the panel after a drop. Knowing the process could take weeks, I decided to buy a spare phone and I bought a Galaxy S6 which I got for just $275. I've passed the following days synching, installing apps and using the phone while I was ready to send my HTC 10 and in the process I've noticed something I hadn't and I probably wouldn't until you use two phones side by side: the HTC 10 has some is underperformed in most of tasks where in the past it used to excel for its optimization.
First I noticed something as simple as facebook app was a ton smoother on the Galaxy S6 than on the HTC 10, running both the exact same version (103.0.0.20.72) not talking about things opening fast which is not the case most of the time, but losing a lot of frames while doing actions like opening reactions panel which sometimes stutters and looks like "in slow motion" on the 10 at the point I need to close the app from RAM here and there to keep it smooth which is not the case on the Galaxy S6 and other stuff like reactions flickering while playing gifs or videos and not happening again on the S6.
At first I just thought "meh facebook it's a poorly optimized app so must be the isolated case" but then I noticed a HUGE difference in graphics performance as well, when I thought the Adreno 530 was better overall compared to the Mali on the Galaxy S6. These are both screenshots taken on the HTC 10 and the Galaxy S6 running Need for Speed: No Limits on the same car and similar race conditions. This is the HTC 10 ss:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And this is the Galaxy S6 counterpart:
There's a loss in definition for both while looking at the screenshots on bigger displays of course, it was less notorious on the devices screen but it was there and still was obvious. Just look at the lines on the back cover of the car. Then I thought it was some specific random failure on the renders, but the same happens over and over, look at this pic of the LaFerrari on the start line, HTC 10:
Now the Galaxy S6 screenshot, same race, same car, same weather condition:
There's a lot of differences: the brake lines, the car's plate, the wheels, the car hoops...
Honestly I didn't even know where to start looking for answers, so here we go: is there any limitation on the graphics card on the HTC 10 stock firmware making it look that inferior? Do I need another factory reset (I've had to a couple times after weekly security patch updates so far), is this improved with custom ROMs? Is my device faulty? I don't know how to feel about this right now, I guess I'm just shocked. Just in case I disabled the screen lowering resolution on the HTC 10 and did reset the device and wait for it to completely cool down before running the game and taking the screenshots
Thanks for your time and any advice you can give to the subject
I would definitely start with a fresh, clean wipe/install (RUU if you can) to compare apples-to-apples.

I guess you're right, I need to backup all of my content anyway to send the phone to SAT, I'll check again later on
It looks to me like the game is still running in a lower resolution, based on that screenshot quality. Did you double check afterwards to see if its still disabled in the HTC Boost app? Sometimes things get re-enabled for me when they update.
As far as speed, I came from an S7 Edge and a Note 7. The HTC has way less judder and frame drops in day to day use, especially in Facebook. If yours is doing that I think there may be something wrong. I'd do a factory reset.

Same here. I mainly use the oblong S7 as a paper weight now. I keep a Note 7 handy in case I run out of matches and need to start a fire.

I double and triple checked, the boost app has the check disabled for the game. I guess I'll backup my data, do a factory reset and see what happens after that, I'll be reporting back
well back again, surely took my sweet time long story short? Poor optimization for the phone. The S6 just had a fresh reinstall but after a month of use it began to present the same frame drops on facebook then the 10 had, it's just a facebook app thing. The graphics on the other side didn't improve even after a factory reset on the HTC 10 and the android N update. This is a sample recorded with the same app, same settings on both phones, make sure to load at 720p or 1080p in theater mode to spot the differences easier.
Galaxy S6:
HTC 10 Sample, same race
As you can see, the graphics on the HTC 10 are lower quality, more pixelaton, less details on the ground and surroundings, and so on. So considering hardware wise I don't think Adreno 530 is inferior to Mali T760MP8 I took my sweet time looking for an answer. Looks like the game it's extremely poorly optimized for the HTC 10, but there's a way to mod the game graphics on your own even without root. So after some research and modding the graphics on my own, this is the same race, with the same recording app, same settings, on the HTC 10:
As you can see differences are night and day in terms of texture quality and pixelation. It's just sad some games are that poorly optimized for the HTC 10
Edit: sorry for the bad driving skills, I was more focused on looking at the differences on the graphics than the race itself

Any release notes?
Probably going to update (OTA) the next days. Flashed the russian pie rom and received this OTA. Working fine except for "Smart backlight control" stopping to work (when using USB tethering over a longer period of time, weird). I don't have wifi yet so i need to make sure my mobile internet is enough to try out Torchlight Fronters this weekend, that's something i definily don't want to miss. I'll give feedback if i find anything unexpected in that update.
UPDATE: Disabling Smart background control fixed my issue. Luckily it's not really something neccesary.
i also got the update and installed it. Nothing has changet at UI, i think

Yes, they want you to always buy the most current cell phone. just do not see it if you do not want it.
And why I have to be careful. I speak what I think.
Sony certainly decreases the useful life of the batteries via software purposely !!! What's up ???

You're making some pretty harsh accusations, even going so far as to call them "shameless", but without anything to back it up, and even becoming overly defensive after getting called out on it, you come off as just an immature kid spewing nonsense (basically slander) on the internet.
It's perfectly fine to complain about worse battery life after the upgrade. That by itself is valuable input of actual user experiences that adds to the conversation and provides people more perspectives to what may happen after upgrading to Pie.
But to go one step further and claim that the weaker battery life is because of a conspiracy to purposefully cripple your phone in order to get you to go and buy the latest model?
If you have actual evidence indicating that the age old theory is actually true, by all means blow that whistle and tell us.
Otherwise, you're just spreading false information pulled out of your ass instead of contributing to any meaningful discussion. I don't see how you can justify that sort of behavior.
My battery life is just fine since going to Pie. If you don't like it, just roll back to Oreo.
@puiatmp: Why did you purchase a Sony device in the first place, if you despise the company that much?
I don't know if it was mentioned before. The .33 firmware contains Android pie with November security patch:

you are absolutely right, and world is run by aliens as well, lol
fwiw my phones battery lasts a lot more after upgrading to PIE. usually 2-3 days with normal use, including about 2-3 hours voice calls, 1-2 hours internet browsing, usual emails, 1-2 hours gps while driving, approx 6-7 hours SOT . you better check if you have some power hungry apps running at backround. anyway, making such absurd accusations without having anything backing it up is childish and doesn't give anyone anything.
UPDATE: Smart backlight control was the thing making problems. Disabling this fixed my problems. Pie is fast, my battery life seems to be even better than before but Wifi WPS is missing i think or maybe it just got moved somewhere else.

Question Display problem with new Fold 3

Got my new Fold 3 today, set it up and immediately noticed that something was wrong with the screens, both large and small. With certain apps such as Google Maps, Samsung Browser, Chrome, Amazon, etc., I have spots on the screen that seem to get stuck and merge into lines when scrolling. This happens on both screens when opened and closed. I've tried Wipe Cache, Factory Reset, and a few other options. Seems to be a hardware issue. Probably a GPU failure if certain hardware acceleration is required. In some apps it doesn't happen at all like Firefox, Youtube, Samsung Gallery, Facebook.
Anyone with the same problem?

Actually in my opinion folding phones are only a proof of concept and still a long way to become, reliable, and durable, to use. Also it doesn't really brings a ton more than normal phones, considering that they are just pocketable tablets with a less durable screen and less battery life. Sorry to pry but could we get a tl;Dr of what those rights are? Could be useful for people in those regions if they have problems and find this thread.
Although regardless of your regional rights OP wants a working phone right? So returning it as soon as possible makes sense. Iirc in the UK returns are possible up to 7 years later but the sooner you do it the more likely a manufacturer is to help without questions.

As soon as I turned mine on, I got a pop-up on my ZF3 to pair it. Then when I switched to SPen mode from Fold mode, I got the same pop-up on my Note 20 Ultra
My s pen pro will not connect to fold 3. It does great with tab s7. I am switching to z fold mode and nothing. My fold does not have any settings for pen or air settings anywhere. Any suggestions? Return pen as defective or is it the crappy Samsung software again? Tried the turn on and Off. It flashes blue. NOTHING. Blue tooth does not see it.
There are instructions that come with the pen, and it was ridiculously easy to pair. However, I'm at a loss finding any use for it, so haven't used it since the day it came (it was free with the Samsung credit). What does everyone use it for? (Gestures are useless to me as I won't remember them.)
You seriously can't remember for gestures that are the exact same in each Direction the only probably used to ever you can't be that brainless not trying to be rude come on the only problem I have is whenever I pulled the pin out I have to reconnect it every time for gestures to work and it's not like I can return the item

How is that not trying to be rude? Yes, I would not be able to remember what the gestures are or are for. Not that my medical records are any of your business, but I have a diagnosed memory disability since my teen years (got accommodations for it in high school). Not everyone has the same abilities you do in life.

Even mild dyslexia can play with one at times and is relatively common. I know.
Goodlock has Navstar to make customizable nav buttons... if that helps.

Dyslexia is not a memory problem.

Actually I think it is. Otherwise it be easy to commit the difference of d or b to memory for example. What you described is a classic symptom of dyslexia.

It isn't about forgetting what they look like, but the way the brain sees the letters/words differently from normal brains. It is a neurological problem.
My problem is a memory-based learning disability, as is was diagnosed after testing.

Nicotine probably would help...
Provigil very likely would help.
