How to identify international version vs. China version phone? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

How to identify international version vs. China version phone?
I want to buy a 2nd hand Mix 2S (because its the cheapest phone with NFC + wireless charging). Anyway, there are plenty of 2nd hand phones on the market, but how do I identify a China version (that I don't want) with a international/global version (that I want)?
Another thing I fancy is pure android. I see that it can be installed. In that case, does the original ROM even matter much? (I have also a RedMi Note 4 (Hong Kong version) and find the original Miui OK, but nothing I would actually install)

XDRdaniel said:
First of all, this section is for mi mix 2 only. Not the S version
Second, it wouldn't matter. Buy any version then flash the ROM you like.
And third, yes, some might say that miui is better In terms of smoothes, battery life and overall stability.

Whoops, sorry for this 2S question. My bad.
You answer implies that all have the same hardware and one can simply flash whatever they like to get the version they want. That sounds good to me.
Again, sorry for the wrong section post....

Thinking about buying a Zenfone 2, worth it?

Guys I wanna know how are the custom roms and how the phone works. I have a S3 with an Exynos CPU and devs have a hardtime to make AOSP roms to my phone. Does this happens on Zenphone 2?
Ditto Im on N7100, Im seeing x86 as potential to exynos, except if the source is leaked to developer someday developer will stopped updating or facing problems when Asus stop updating their flagship arround 2016
Im considering it with Redmi Note 2 Prime... it has Octacore but lack of NFC and only 2G ram
I might still happy with my N7100 (the also canceled Lollipop yeah,,, rite done with samsung, no need waste money for flagship anymore or buy Iphone if you want flagship) untill Prime arrives in my country or ZE551ML fix the battery issue, then Ill upgrade to one of them
above 1.8Ghz processor eats battery like a pro without good software
Btw this is general section I dunno if this question can be here or not
I'm currently running a 5.1.1 AOSP ROM, with the developer looking at 6.0. The ROM runs flawlessly; this phone really shines with lightweight Android on it.

Great
I have played around with all the custom roms on here - they all work great but when news of ASUS working on 6.0 came out I went back to stock so I would be ready for it. Just do yourself a favor and get it from ASUS. Too many people on here have found out the hard way they overpayed for a CN model with WW firmware flashed on it. Get the right model and you will love it for a long time

I got the ze551ml - 4gb/64gb version. The problem people have been having is going to ebay or amazon or some dinky shop hoping to save a few bucks and wind up with a chinese phone with the global software flashed on it. The chinese model has lte bands that are not used in places like the United States and Canada. Just get it from asus on their website. They will ensure you get the right phone for your area.

If I buy will be this one: Asus Zenfone 2 32GB Preto (ZE551ML-6A208WW)
I just went to ASUS website and did not see that model. I am in the United States so it might not be meant for me

So ZE551ML is good?
yup, it's good. the 32gb/4 gb versión is the Chinese version, you would have to flash the ww rom to get gapps. also I think it doesn't have some of the lte bands used on the states. go for the 64/4, 16/4 or 16/2 that sell on amazon at 299,229 and 199 respectively, they are all the 551 ML

Be aware of te limitations though (talking about ZE551ML/ZE550ML). Sim2 is only 2G and has no data support. Check the LTE band support of the version you get. CN, TW and WW have different LTE support.
All other ZenFone 2 variants that are not x86 (any other than ZE551ML/ZE550ML) may have poor third party dev support, and probably less attention from ASUS too going forward, as the x86 version is the flagship.
So guys, should I buy it or not? I don't wanna make another mistake like I did with the S3 on which I didn't have custom roms of AOSP with quality
Considering between Zenfone 2 and Moto G 2015 tho...
I switched from the S5 and couldn't be happier. Best phone switch I have ever done. If you do go with the Zenfone 2 I would recommend the 4gig version, it is well worth it
While I haven't used any CM or AOSP based ROM, some people say it's good for everyday use. I like the stock ROM, I only use a custom kernel (project T) and have the phone rooted and with TWRP. There are also some stock based ROMs, mostly to remove bloat.
The only advantage of getting the Moto G would be better battery life, but in everything else the ZF2 leaves it in the dust.

Is there any HW difference between Mi Max/Max Prime Chinese and Global?

Hi everyone,
I know the Xiaomi Mi Max is officially sold in China and India.
Apparently the version from China is compatible with several LTE Bands worldwide.
My doubt is: As of now, is there any hardware difference for this device sold in China / India / (wherever else it may being sold officially)?
Also, is there any differenze in size between Mi Max (32/64GB rom, 3GB ram) and Mi Max Prime (128GB, 4GB ram)?
I am trying to understand this in order to order an appropriate cover
Thanks in advance

there is no difference with respect to hardware btw the chinese & indian manufactured mi max.they have the same hardware save for a few minor differences in make of camera, touch panel, screens, camera sensors etc.although they are frm diff manufacturers, they are specced the same.the diff comes in form of preloaded os.again though both are the same, chinese ones will be preloaded with chinese stable firmware and indian units(which i personally own) have global stable firmware.the major diff in terms of software would be chinese localized app and absense of google apps in chinese stable, while in global stable comes with google apps preloaded.that where the differences end.the overall physical dimensions remain the same.you can cross install firmware if u wish
now coming to the diff btw the 3/32 vs 4/128 there is slight diff in soc.the 3/32 called "hydrogen" has hexacore(2x1.8ghz a72+4x1.4ghz a53) snapdragon 650 while the 4/128 called "helium" has octacore(4x1.8ghz a72+4x1.4ghz a53) snapdragon 652soc.the gpu is the same in both versions.again there will be no diff in the physical dimensions btw the 2 models

Thanks for your answer.
Is it correct to say I can install the Global rom on a device coming from China, and get the very same result (besides minor hw differences) as buying it in India (for example)?
Also, since I understand you have the global edition , could you say if it supports full disk encryption on MIUI 8 (from settings > privacy or something like that), in a way that without unlock code the phone doesn't start at all?
(as reference, there is also this - unanswered - question about this topic :http://c.mi.com/in/thread-4401-1-1.html)
Thank you
yes, you can. but you must look for the right on coz always 2 global roms comes.
One for the Mi max with 16 and 32 gb (hydrogen) or the rom for the 32 and 128 gb mi max (helium).
greets
Peter
PS: Best rom ever, no more need RR
LED-Control, auto Callrecord, dt2wake, fast, super battery, so stable!

for the 1part of the question answer is yes
for the 2nd part of the question,as far as i know, since the data partition is encrypted, after the device boots up,u'll be presented with the password (login) screen, and unless u enter the the password u wont see the homescreen, and no one will be able to access ur data.the only way to use the device is to format the data partition with custom recovery and install new new rom at which point all ur data would be permanent ly erased.

Should i buy a Pixel XL Marlin for custom roms ?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

If you want custom roms etc just buy a OnePlus or Xiaomi device they're very popular among developers
oneplus are too expansive for me, but yea i heard that roms are perfect on this, and wich one xiaomi should i go with ? i know that xiomis are chinese phones, but do they work well on french bandwidths ?
i see that there's a **** ton of roms on the redmi note 4 "mido", the price is really low

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices
Which bands do you need? If you buy from official Xiaomi French store should have your bands but check before buying anything

Mi A2 was just announced will come soon is running Android One, updates should be inline with Pixel Line will have a ton of developement just like the Mi A1 you can see here
Redmi Note 5 also great device a lot of development can see here

The pro is just named that way in other markets I think in india is called the "Redmi Note 5 Pro" But in Europe it's called "Redmi Note 5" Same device just different name
Xiaomi is a bit confusing with it's branding

I am looking to buy a used Marlin as well. The price is much lower then the two phones suggested here. Does anyone have any comments or recommendations? My budget is around $200 USD.

If it has to be a Marlin make sure you buy a non Verizon model as they block bootloader unlock can be a pita to get it unlocked
last I saw you had to pay like $30 to some shady guy to remotely unlock through team viewer...

Coming back to Custom ROMS

I have been away in the wilderness for the past 5 years and I am trying to get back into customs roms.
I purchased from Amazon UK the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, so I assume this is classed is the Pro version.... its 3GB/32GB model
After doing some research on the forum. Is it true to say that the Stock Miui rom is the most stable rom? I am currenly on Miui 10.
Its nice but I would prefer stock android/pixel port with everything working plus gcam.
I Would prefer Oreo until Pie is stable enough, but after doing some further reading I get the feeling that Oreo based roms aren't stable or have I misread.
Thanks

Been on Pixel Expirience pie for over 2 months, more than stable enough for daily use. Didnt encounter any bugs, everythings working, just heard that cast is not working, but cant confirm as i dont use it. Most stable is ofcourse OEM soft, in this case miui. Wont recommend gcam as its not stable, atleast for global version front camera is bugged. If you start flashing various gcam patches this forum is full of, youll probably end up with same bugged gcam AND it will give you extra troubles, like no sound etc. Pixel Expirience without any modifications and patches works well. Btw "pro" version is only for india, they have different front camera hardware and gcam seems to be working well on it, there is also AI version which is exactly the same as global version, just with less network bands support.
Thanks for the reply...

No, its the same phone, but as i said, pro moniker is only used in india. Global model is just redmi note 5. Global and chinese versions are identical, apart from global supporting more network bands. Pro version is same as Global, but has different front camera hardware for some reason. If im not mistaken, it has 20mpx, while global/china uses 12mpx front sensor. They all support same roms tho, and all have same codename, which is "whyred". This forum is for whyred. Note5/5 plus is another device, it uses snapdragon 625 and has single back camera. I know, naming scheme is ridiculously confusing, but thats xiaomi, its not the first time. They use different names in different regions, and release many similar devices.

Question Import OP 9RT to Brazil

Hello guys,
I intend to use the OP 9RT in Brazil buying from here:
https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005003395769541.html?spm=a2g0o.placeorder.0.0.3e906f4e7pHARF&mp=1&gatewayAdapt=glo2bra
I would like to know if this "global ROM" version will come with ColorOS or OxygenOS? If it comes with ColorOS, is there a way to switch to OxygenOS by official means? No root in the case? Will all functions work? Including 4g/5g?

Hey. It's possible to switch from color to oxygen and back as many times as u wish. Basic computer knowledge just required. Therefore this shipper will do it for you, as it said on page.
Btw. i'd recommend you to take 9pro or 9r or 9 (clean) instead of RT. 9rt has(global) oxygen 11 right now, while oxygen 13 dev anounced for 10pro. They just started closed beta 12 for 9rt. More than that, i found oppo's color os better designed. Battery life also not that much fancy. I am a bit disappointed with oneplus. I wish i took pixel instead.

Hey dekimori, tks for reply.
You mean then that the global version ROM already comes with Oxygen, is that it? So coloros is only in Chinese ROM? In this case I couldn't understand why you recommend me not getting the 9RT? Could you try to explain better?

Yes, India version (global) comes with Oxy 11 - model m110, and Chinese one m111 with ColorOs. There are most likely a chinese version which shipper himself change to Oxy.
I not recomend you 9rt becouse of the slowest update in all 9, Nord, and even 8 series. While everybody already on Android 12, 9rt is still Android 11. Also for thirsty battery consumption.

Guys, apart from the problem mentioned by our colleague @dekimori , is there anything else for which you guys don't recommend the OP 9rt?
I would recommend 9RT for the best modem. It really has the strongest WiFi and mobile network connectivity over other OP9 models, even 9Pro. Please note a topic about 5g in USA. Looks like there are issues with indian OOS firmware in connecting US 5g. 5g uses different bands in different countries, so model for one market may work not as perfect as expected in country out of this market.
Personally I use it in country where 5g is not started yet. With 3g/4g it works perfect. I'm comparing with OP5, and it is notable better!
