Galileo satellites can be used with Mi A2 lite - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello,
First, I apologize for my bad English, it's not my native language. Second, I'm not an expert like most of you, just a little bit more than a noob.
I have wondered me if it is possible to catch and use Galileo satellites in our smartphone. And after read lots of threads, I believed it was not possible. I have understood that the Snapdragon 625 is compatible with Gallileo but needs some software update to activate the functionality.
Nevertheless, I did some tests with GPS test and GPStest developed by Sean Barbeau. And I can catch some Gallileo satellites. Not only I can see them, but I'm pretty sure that they can be used to locate. But it's very strange because I can only catch few of them and the signal is very low compared to US GPS and Russian Glonass. Even Beidou satellites provide a better signal.
I must precise that I'm located in Paris.
If you want, I can upload some screenshots to show you what I can consider as an evidence of the Galileo functionality.
But why the signal is weaker than other satellite networks? And why Xiaomi specifications only says GPS, Glonass and Beidou?
It seems that only Xiaomi mi 8 is officially compatible with Gallileo...
Not very sure to understand...
Last information, I'm not rooted and I have the last update of Android One
Thanks for your comments and information

I see the Galileo sats too, and some times it actually locked on some (or at least, that what GPSTest was showing).

navigation software

which navigation software is the best for touch hd using the in built gps and not an external reciever ?
any help will be much appriciated
i have tried a few, best i can suggest is garmin xt, it works very well, although there is some lag, not much more than a specifc GPS unit.
well i'm using tomtom7 and never had a problem with it...never lost signal, no as bad lag as in garmin xt which i did use before... i've tried also iGO8 and is very nice and stable as well (similar lag as in garmin xt - acceptable), but my choice, so far best one, is tomtom7.
I think it´s a little bit difficult to say whats the best Navigation Software. The best way is always to try and find out.
I use the NDrive Software. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492800&highlight=ndrive it´s very fast. Just needs 5 seconds to find 8-9 satelites and its very precise. I never would change to another software anymore, but this is just me...
Tomtom 7 gets my vote. With traffic update in UK and automatic rerouting, speed cameras and my nearest Tesco it does everything I need!
My vote goes to Navigon Mobile Navigator 7! I even bought it!
Copilot 8 Gets my vote, good value for money only being £25.99
Small issue with WM6.5 and the auto lock but I'm sure that will get fixed.
Opionated questions are always going to get mixed results due to everyone having different opinions. This is why they are frowned upon in XDA and generally closed. Best advice I can offer you is check up on each, read reviews and see what other users have to say on each, then make your own educated decision before you purchase one. Each have their own pros & cons

Someone tested the GPS?

Hello,
Somebody tested the GPS? I ask because i want to buy this phone (K420N European version). And i go in mountain for big walk and need a good GPS.
My previous phone Moto E first gen and LG Spirit 4G LTE (H440n) has no problems.
You can see my Hiking: http://www.sports-tracker.com/view_profile/ivailo87
Thank you!
Best Regards,

Well, my t mobile variant has a bad habit of dropping the GPS fix. It gets it back pretty quickly if it has a data connection.

I own K430 version and it seems that GPS works very good, maybe better than on my older L90 410. GPS fix is fast, a few seconds and the accuracy is also fine for me. I use it for cycling. It means, I ride some distance, then look at the phone and it always finds my location very fast. I use Maps.me app.
Very well

No GLONASS

I am hugely disappointed Lenovo cut this very particular corner when making this phone. Every other phone in the Z Play's price range does have GLONASS support. And yet, the Z Play doesn't.
Is this important?
Might be. I believe the Z Play will be a massive letdown for people who rely on location and position tracking (running, cycling, etc) because from my experience - every device I tried to use while cycling that had only A-GPS behaved absolutely dreadfully. Signal drops, inaccurate locating, inaccurate speed information, etc...
For the 0.01% of us, this is an absolute dealbreaker and it is completely inexplicable why Lenovo chose to do it like this.

If you go to Motorola Mexico site, Moto Z play shows "Servicios de localización
GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, Izat"
I have this phone but dont know if theres any way to verify glonass support.
The app "GPS Status & Toolbox" will indicate GLONASS vs GPS satellites. And the Z play definitely uses GLONASS, as it has the same support for pretty much all positioning satellite constellations (like mathab said) that all modern Qualcomm chipsets share. Where did you get the idea that it didn't?
there you can see its detecting GLONASS satelites

https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-z-play#Specifications - says only A-GPS.
Use GPS Test from Play Store. Circles are GPS, triangles are GLONASS.
There you go, it would be really weird if US model was different, I think...
No pokemom go?

Guys, I did some research. It says on Moto's website that the Z Play only has A-GPS, but that's the case for ALL of their phones too. Even this year's flagship the Z Force Droid and last year's flagship the Droid Turbo 2 are listed as having only A-GPS. I have a hard time believing that both of those phones lack GLONASS too.
Additionally, a guy in the Android Central forums used a GPS app with his Z Play and apparently it does find GLONASS satellites. He says it locks GPS super fast too. This, combined with what I found on the Moto website, lead me to believe that the Z Play DOES have GLONASS, it just doesn't advertise it. In any case, my Droid Turbo 2's GPS locks quickly, and works fine with GPS intensive apps like Pokemon Go and bike/run tracking apps like Strava, so I say you guys shouldn't worry about the Z Play's GPS performance.
This seals the deal for me. I'll be getting my Z Play today!

Enjoy. It's the best phone I've ever had. I'm coming from a Moto G 2nd Gen and everything is an upgrade.

Thanks! So far the Z Play's been awesome. The battery life is all it's cracked up to be, I got mine this morning and I'm now at 54% with 5hrs SOT. The camera's decent, it never gets warm and runs faster than SD810 phones, and it's just been a great phone to use all around.

WHY is it that only OUr Xiaomi phone has no native Roms?

All the other XIaomi phones from last year , including the ones with the same ram , storage and processors as ours have roms.
Is it that we just dont have the developers?
The mi max3 is soo similar to the other phones and even its predecessor.
I am baffled as to why we have to struggle with unreliable treble roms.
Just venting, but im sure 90% feel the same.
Almost all the GSI roms are stuck on Oreo and installing them is an iffy process
im trying to follow the guides, but i cant even get one of the trebble roms to success fully boot. ive got the 6gb/128gb variant. pffffff. ill have to sell it and try to upgrade to a mi mix3 in time

Maybe because access to other devices has been easier. I know that some manufacturers even offer some devices for this purpose, which should not be the case of the Mi Max 3. In particular, I bought this device by the screen and battery, and I am accustomed to little development, because my previous device was a Huawei (that I use until today), which I was able to install a version of the lineage, where the camera did not work. It may also be that mm3 is not as attractive as the others for development. The way to learn is to develop or hope to help.
I'm also a little bit disappointed by the lack of custom roms for the MiMax3, but i bought it for looking prime and netflix when i'm abroad. So the big screen and the battery is enought for me. And for flashing i have my Poco
First: Stuck on Oreo?
You don't know what you are talking about.
Most decent ROMs have a proper Pie vendor build by now.
Unstable and buggy?:
Stick to the stable ones (AOSP, PE, AOSiP, Descendant, etc) and always run on a patched Pie vendor.
Use my latest fix bundle and you'll have no bugs.
You'll even have VoLTE no working.
I had the Mi Max 1, then the 2, which the day I first used it, I crashed the screen. The Mi max 3 had just been launched, so I bought it.
After two months of not getting any ROMs I decided to buy another Mi Max 2, which I totally love. Development is really good.
I keep my Mi Max 3 until development gets better and we can have more options, cause hardware is obviously better than the 2.
I will never buy a newly released phone or one that gets little development.
The thing I don't understand is: Why is everyone so obsessed with device specific ROMs?
You can install GSIs right now... Install my Max 3 fix patch on top and you'll have a flawless experience, no different to any other ROM you'll find out there.
That's (kind of) the whole point of treble to begin with!
Be able to build ROMs without the whole device specific crap...

There is just one or two things that don't work as it should with the gsi treble roms compared to xiaomi.eu
1.GPS, unable to get a lock..always hovering around 3 or 4 satellites with bad signal
2.viper4android not detecting the correct device, sometimes it does and sometimes not...not a big issue but to me it is annoying
Device specific roms would probably have these things working without issues.
Of course in the future there might be a bright minded who can fix this on the gsi roms and either get the dev to implement them in the treble system.img or provide instructions how to patch them.
But that's just my argument why it "could" in theory be better with a device specific rom for this device

I'm sure it has gotten better but a few months back I was driving and came into a car accident and needed to take an alternative route so I would not sit there the whole night and it was snowing and pitch dark and the further up the mountain I drove and had to rely on my memory to know where I was, it was the only way around the highway that was closed off as the gps lost signal time after time.
I have also lived around this mountain area and it is a spot for radio silence.
Ham-radio has difficulties working here and only a few types of big antennas work properly
Calling with your cellphone don't work with most providers
The gps lost signal time after time on havoc while sitting at home testing several reflashes and updating the arb-less fw and xiaomi.eu I could not get a lock indoors or outdoors.
I also live in a cement building so it shields me, so of course the signal might be affected by that.
Because of that I have to use large 17db wifi antennas to be able to penetrate the walls.
Then I flashed the xiaomi.eu released after chinese new year holiday and imminently I got a lock on tons of satellites when sitting indoors.
Of course If I drive far away from any building the signal gets better for gps, but the difference between havoc and xiaomi.eu was significant enough for me to abandon it.
I need gps to work reliably in events such as this and I don't have time to play around with the phone
Your case sounds extremely special but in my case I notice absolutely no difference in GPS.
I believe it's because of the anti-roll back

Question LTE Band 20 on K40S?

I know this sort of question pops up from time to time, from device to device.
I notice that a Poco F4 is considerable more expensive for me to get over a K40S and this would be perfect. However I notice the K40S doesn't support LTE band 20 out of the box.
I wondered if there was a way to make this happen? As i'm reasonably sure the chipset etc can do it?
I'd be willing to play around using fun grungy tools if it's posslble.
Probably not but I have to scratch my curiousity.
Thankyou!

The difference is in Hardware not Software, Xiaomi is not crazy.
Actually that's not always the case and I have enabled bands on other devices with international variants using qualcomm tools etc. I'm aware of the material differences.
