Curved Screen? - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Anyone know if the screen is slightly curved like the Pixel 2XL, or flat like the OG Pixel XP? Hoping it's flat for cheaper glass screen protector sake!

I was actually just at a Verizon store checking one out. The screen is much flatter at the edges than the 2 xl. There IS still a tiny bit of a curve, but it's significantly less for sure.

They're in stores? Good to know thank you

Yes Verizon and bestbuy have them on display and will be in Verizon stores on Friday October 19th. Just went to the local Verizon store on my lunch break to check the 3XL out. Its nice....didn't notice the reduced curve or even compare it to my P2XL. I was mainly focused on the notch size...haptic feedback...and screen color shifting. Also the overall outter dimensions compared to the P2XL.

@bsg411 I just stopped at Verizon. The notch doesn't bother me. I ordered the 2 XL from Google already but the smaller 3 feels great too

Yeah...I could tell the notch would grow on me quickly. Also the smaller Pixel 3 looks good too. It the first time I ever looked at the smaller version of a google phone and would actually consider it over the bigger version.

Yep. I had been thinking about it. Thought I've already ordered a case and screen protector haha so I reckon I will stick with the XL.

Same. I looked at the screens on both new pixels. Both look really good.

I can also confirm that after playing with a 2XL and 3XL side by side at the Verizon store, the screen on the 3XL is much flatter and starts to curve much closer to the edge of the phone. It is almost identical to the screen edge on my OnePlus 6. And this is great news because tempered glass protectors for the OnePlus 6 have full adhesive across the entire screen, while almost all of the glass protectors for the 2XL only adhere around the sides, which creates a halo effect in the middle of the screen and allows dust to work its way in, over time.
I'm very hopeful that the flatter screen on the 3 XL will mean screen protectors have that full adhesion like the OnePlus 6 protectors. I'll find out shortly as I already ordered 2 different tempered glass protectors for my 3XL, which should be here sometime next week.

Ok so XL screen a lot flatter than OP5 so tempered glass protectors should be good.
Also it seems like the screen is from Samsung. A pixel guy here told me that since HTC made the phone and since they work with Samsung, they may have used Samsung screens (therefore why the best screen on the market).

I'm all over this, thanks!
Very cool ^^
When I finally upgrade, I am definitely ordering one
is it re-usable? Can I take it off one S3 and put it in another? I'm switching from a 16 to a 32gb because I was lied to about first day availability
Sub'd ordering one soon! How is this thing with bubbles?
Also, very important to note: The S3 screen has edges that curve down into the phone. I don't think this will work as well for the S3 as it did for the nexus.

No bubbles at all. Lay it on and bubbles get sucked out, really interesting to watch.
We've had our S3 for a week now and the curve is not as severe as you think, it is extremely minimal.
Does it interfere with touch screen responsiveness? Just considering how thick it is compared to other screen protectors. Does it distort the screen at all?

99% of the time is works flawlessly, usually the screen will not respond if you're doing something very precise, but it doesn't happen often. The thickness is comparable to 4 pieces of paper. No screen distortion at all.

iLLumishield HD Screen protector

So i got my iLLumishield "HD" Screen protector today, after a casualty i got it right the second time. The corner are rounded, but i can definitely say the edges are not perfect and you can feel its rough(not a lot but definitely rough) unlike Zagg or Tech armor. The part between proximity sensor and the earpiece grill does not stick idk what the reason is. Overall its OK. :good:

That usually means the first seller (possibly Amazon) ran out of stock and that another seller who's not covered by Prime is now the main one offering the product. In this case, however, it's the same seller. Perhaps they ran out of stock and are treating new purchases as special orders.

I think we can agree that the non-Prime switch is odd and annoying.
did the first casualty have the same problem around the earpiece grill? I wonder if it's one that's defective or if it's an issue with manufacturing? I'm picking with things like that and I'll throw away all 3 if it does that when I install.

well i cant say if the first one had the same problem, i just couldn't align it properly. the problem with the not sticking near the earpiece might be because if you see the picture at the bottom part of the earpiece the guard is almost on the edge. If someone aligns the guard perfectly then i guess this problem wont arise. But this bubble definitely has the potential to mess up the guard.
Thanks! Debating whether or not to pull the trigger now.
I have 3 nillkin dry application screen protectors in the mail but i have no idea when they'll get here. I think i'll pull the trigger on a pack of these after seeing those pics. the small bubbling issue around the earpiece doesn't seem too severe on your application. Thanks for the pics! Wish more people would do this with their phones.
Perhaps the area between the proximity sensor and the earpiece was stretched or caught some dust before application? :confused. I hope it's not a consistent issue on all their screen protectors. I used iLLumishield for my HTC One M8 before and I recall it being pretty nice, and also on the thicker side? I was considering getting one of these, but now I'm hesitant after seeing the issues you pointed out.

I can assure you that there was no stretching involved whatsoever, i laid the top first and worked my way through bottom. as you said it is a bit on the thinker side but i almost forgot i was using a guard on my screen. Although the bubble still exists near the earpiece there is no sign of peeling off. its been more than 10 days now and i can see it lasting for atleast 6 months or more no problem.
I bought the Diztronics tpu case and have to see if it disturbs the case. i hope it doesnt:fingers-crossed:
i sadly cannot ship to sweden from amazon this specific product, can anyone help ? Thanks
I am using this protector on my OPO and so far it holds up well. I've had it on for over 2 months. The fit is not 100% coverage, but it is close enough. You would be hard pressed to notice that there is a protector on the phone.

@egren58 They've got a new version shipping Nov 7th. It is wider 1~1.5mm than the older one. Contact them through Amazon and let them know it's not satisfied and they will offer a refund or the newer wider version. They're correcting it and looks like they've got good customer support.

Yeah...that's unacceptable. For crying out loud, the Pixel screen is not curved that much, if at all. I'm looking at my Pixel XL right now and I don't see any roundness at all. This screen looks flat to me. But all these screen protector companies are saying"because the Pixels screen is curved, we can't make a wider screen protector." I call shenanigans.

The company YooTech which is probably the same as Pleason, is sending their version 2 protector to me. They said that it is slightly wider. When I get it, I'll try to remember to post pics.
When I remove the protector that I have applied now, I'm going to lay a straight edge across the screen because I can't see any slight curve. This screen looks to be flat as a pancake. [emoji1]

When you do lay it across long ways at the bottom or top so you get 3 of the edges
There is a slight curvature but it's still a good amount of distance from the edge of the display. You can see the curve when you hold the device in an angle and put it in direct light the reflection will show the angle. But there is still space to go wider.
I have a dial indicator at my work. I'll use it to see exactly how much of a curve we are dealing with. Not that it matters, I just want to see.

It's very minimal. The o e plus 3 had more and they managed to get some decent tempered covered the display and a bit more
I've had one of these ordered about 3 weeks ago from Pleson through Amazon. Said they shipped it 10/18, but they 'forgot' to provide a tracking number and can't find one now, but are sure it shipped. They were good about offering a refund, though. Of course, the original picture they were marketing it with - showing it with the Pixel XL - also showed the camera & speaker areas as cutouts, not whole sections cut to the edge, which was one reason I ordered theirs vs all the rest that look essentially identical.
I'm waiting on Intelliarmor's PRO glass - it's the only one that went essentially full edge-to-edge (less about 0.5mm) on my Nexus 6, which had similarly rounded edges.

The HD wont be shipping on the 20th, which I suspect is why they are listing them as out of stock:
Howdy intelliGLASS Pixel 2 XL HD Backers!
Every October here at intelliARMOR we’re treated to the latest release of Google’s Android phone and it’s all hands on deck coming up with products and designs that fit perfect and perform the way we’d like.
Sadly, the progress we’ve been making on our intelliGLASS Pixel 2 XL intelliGLASS has not been stellar. The curvature of the XL model is significantly larger than the standard Pixel 2 and our flat glass is just looking horrible.
Because of this, we are not going to be able to ship our HD glass on the 20th as scheduled, we are estimating another 30 to 45 days before it is ready to go.

I wouldn't depend on the HD shipping. I think they said they were having problems with it because of the curved screen. There was a letter a couple of pages back.
I just want correct product pictures even if they are just approximations. How can I be expected to buy P2XL gear when I'm looking at P2 gear images?
We're putting so much faith in Intelliarmor's full adhesive 2D (and eventually full adhesive 3D) as the definitive TGSPs for the next few weeks/months. They need to meet us halfway.
I want that 2-pack 2D so badly. I just need the screen covered. If they need a micrometer to find the exact spot past the screen to stop the protection, then so be it. The case will do all the work.

Anyone who ordered the intelliGLASS 3D for the Pixel 2 XL already received a shipping confirmation?
My order is still processing and on their website it doesn't really say it's out of stock...
My HD 2 pack shipped yesterday.
My card was charged on 11/18 for my black 3D order, but they have not yet shipped... When I placed my order the site said "Ships Nov. 20", now says "Ships Dec. 10"
Well, I really do hope that the intelliGLASS 3D is better than their support...
Just got an email that shipment is delayed till December 10 because of too many orders.
Well this info would have been nice to have had when placing the order...there was absolutely no mentioning that delays may occur.
A couple of days can always happen, but almost 3 weeks plus shipping to Europe. I'm lucky if I receive the tgsp before Christmas.
Not happy at the moment

What I have read it's not full adhesive, but adhesive around all sides and the cut-out of the proximity sensor.
Should probably be better than most, but if it's really going to be the tgsp we'll see

Definitely not full adhesive, but they never said it would be for these initial batches. They said the goal was to try and make a full adhesive version, but I'm guessing if they don't sell enough they won't.
Anyway, put my 3D on last night, no rainbow effect. Got to work this morning, rainbow effect. I'll be putting another Skinomi back on when I get home.

Accessories Whitestone [Dome Glass] Google Pixel 6 Pro Tempered Glass Screen Protector [Liquid Dispersion Tech] With Camera Film Protector

New! My personal newbie UV-cured screen protector review at post # 90. TL;DR - overall 95% satisfactory, fingerprint still works perfectly and looks and feels great.

My question too - does it work very well with the in-screen optical fingerprint reader. So far with everyone else, that's always the caveat with the screen protectors they've reported back on. The manufacturer's site doesn't mention the fingerprint reader and they're out of stock anyway.

I have this one (CoverOn) on my phone right now and no, fingerprint reader does not work. Several other people have mentioned this particular one doesn't work for them either (as with all the others). I am keeping it on though b/c it's nice, fits well, does well with not leaving too many smudges/prints, etc. Also feels nice. Until one comes out that works with the fingerprint reader, I'll stay with this and use a pin. I like the protection of tempered glass vs. TPU/PET, etc..
I really don't know it says it has true touch technology but since I have yet to receive my pixel I can't verify
i will stay naked until Whitestone. Might be 6 months down the line though.

Exact same thing here, keeping it for the fit, feel, and protection until something comes out that works. I still believe it's a software bug since the standard P6 is also having issues with TGSP and FP

Hello all -
I've been following this thread closely as quality tempered glass screen protectors are important to me. P6P will be my first curved screen, so I was disappointed to learn that it's a pain to find quality glass protectors for them.
I sent an inquiry to Whitstone Dome 1 week ago asking about availability for P6P screen protectors. They just now responded to me that they should release a product in mid-January 2022.

That would work out fine for me since my 6 pro isnt scheduled to be delivered until mid January. I've been wanting to try one but didnt want to spend that kind of money for a protector for the P2XL

As already discussed it's NOT a full adhesive back, it's the stupid dot matrix **** that never works.

Exactly!! I could tell just by the black lines around the outside.
iShieldz has a protector that has adhesive just on the fingerprint scanner part to get the scanner working. The tradeoff is that you end up with a circle in the screen thats visible all the time. I got it from my carrier.
I contacted Whitestone and they replied to me and said they will have one ready to be sold in January-ish.
