Wireless Charing & Cases - Google Pixel 3 XL Accessories

I'm very new to the wireless charing world.
How will wireless charing work with cases on the new 3 XL?
Are there certain types of cases that will work better than others?
Are there certain types of chargers that will work better than others?
Anyone recommend the pixel stand charger?

You really should've posted this is the Q&A section, however yes wireless charging works even with case though some manufactures recommend removing the case to best utilize the feature. Can't comment on the pixel stand but I have the Nomad Base Hub Edition and it works well. Pricey @ $100, but it's essentially what apple tried and failed (so far, hope they will figure it out) with their AirPower mat.

A super super thick case might pose a problem, but otherwise it usually isn't an issue. I have a Spigen Neo Hybrid and the Pixel Stand and it works perfectly fine.

Thanks for your reply! I posted here as I thought with my questions it might get into specific charger/case combos, thus more of an accessory type thread.

Despite claims to the contrary, the Otterbox Defender case does cause problems charging your phone on the Pixel Stand. When on the stand in its case, my phone charging will start and stop constantly. Without the case it charges normally.

I have the Pixel 3 XL and just purchased the Pixel Stand for it. I have one picture each in the two Google Photo Albums that I have to choose from, but the Pixel Stands still shows me many awesome photo's while using the stand. Does anyone know where these images are being sourced from? I would like to access them to make wallpaper's out of some of them.

this is unfortunate because it is my favorite case but the Speck Presidio Grip case is iffy at best with the Pixel stand. Slow charges and disconnects randomly. However, it works just fine with other wireless flat chargers

Spigen Tough Armor for Pixel 3 XL works with fast charging Pixel Stand and slow charge TYLY Vu wireless charger

I like these mounts, the page just went up today. It's much better than the crap Verizon is pushing. Anyone else ever use these docks?
I can't tell from the pics but does the one that have the charger block the audio out?
Never mind, I can see the audio jack now in the pics.
i came on to post this...I just got an email from proclip confirming this. Ive used proclip in the past and they are of good quality

I'm guessing only the adjustable holder will fit our phones if we have cases on them?

Looks like it. I would like the active setup, but I will have a TPU case on it. I wonder if a heat gun can help me bend it out a bit.

I'm looking at the same problem here. I've been using a holder with the 2 amp charger for the past two years with my Incredible and absolutely love it. I've never been able to get an extended battery because of how tight it slides in, though. I'll email them and ask but I might have to just swap in the stock battery for rides I know I'll need the juice.
Pros of using this are great, though. Because it's 2 amp charger I would get ~25% in about 20 minutes of driving with my Incredible with fast charging enabled in the kernel. GPS and Bluetooth for Google Maps would slow the charge down but would still give me a full charge from 20% to full in an hour. With Cyanogen I would set my bluetooth to only turn on when connected to a wall charger so I'd slide this in and my buetooth would turn on and connect to my car automatically. Last but not least, your wires are all tucked away! Very clean look.
Does the mount hold the audio cable so it doesn't move and it plugs into the phone?
Any issues with the diztronic TPU case? Would it prevent the microusb or audio plugs from inserting into the phone completely?

If you get the universal dock, the bottom of the phone is completely exposed so you won't have any issues. I got my wife one of these (universal) for her iPod a few years back and the build quality is top notch.
i wish I didn't have to also plug in the cables separately, but maybe I can jerryrig something up.

Yah, that's I'm trying to avoid. Taking off my case every time I get in the car would be a big hassle.

If you don't want to remove the case, then you need to get the universal dock. I wish them made a version of the active dock that was slightly adjustable, but they don't.
My question is would the charging holder accommodate the extended battery given that it barely adds any thickness to the device. From the looks of the pictures, it looks like the device slides in and is held on to the sides only so it looks like shouldn't be a problem.
I contacted customer service and they said this:
Indeed the added battery won't make it work in 512324. Our adjustable holder listed with the Galaxy Nexus listing might work. Our custom holders are made for the device as it comes out of the box, and indeed any added thickness will make it not work in our custom holders.

So I guess not?

Which I don't want. I want one with the charger, that can accomodate a case.
They make such a thing for the iphone. My co-worker has one.

I emailed them asking if they have plans for such a device for the galaxy nexus.

Most extended batteries tend to add a lot of bulk (more than cases sometimes). The person who emailed you back may not be aware that the GN's extended battery adds about 1-2 mm of bulk to the bottom half of the phone.
Since the holder is a slide-in type, I can't see this being 'millimeter-tight'. Don't take my word for it but I'm willing to bet that this will fit even with the extended battery on.
I guess we won't know for sure until someone gets the fitted holders and try it though. I'd try, but I've a case so the fitted ones do me no good for sure.

80 bucks for that dock. Ouch. Good concept, but that is a bit rich.
I wish you could buy these at a store. I've already got the whole set for the Nexus One and I've been waiting for the GN mount. I just added to my cart and it's an extra $20 in shipping (to Toronto). So after duty at the border I'm looking easy at $60 just for that one piece of molded plastic. Yeah the mount is great, but that's seriously expensive.
I've used their cases for the last 2 years, nexus s and thunderbolt, and they are great. I still have my Nexus S holder and the picture of the one on their site for the GNex looks like the same style, if so it should work with the extended battery. The slide in case is tight on the sides but leaves a gap behind the phone, see attached pic. The phone slides into that groove and the groove itself is very thin so it doesn't appear it will interfere with the rear battery cover at all.
Proclips is a great solution. I've used it for my car for years. I used them in 3 different cars. Pricey however, it works very well. A+
Got a negative response =(
Unfortunately not. We only have adjustable holder with charging for our Apple line. These have all the same connectors in exact the same location.
For other phones there are too many differences in charging location and thickness of cases.

Hi
For those in the UK... just ordered an active mount from http://www.mountonus.com/
£59.99... bit steep but I guess thats the price you pay for a nice phone-specific/car-specific mount!

It was to be expected. They are not going to design a niche product for a phone until it sells consistently in the millions. That said... Creating a Micro USB small swing arm to make it universal should be too hard....
If I feel industrial, I might see what I can make on my own.

[Q] Magnetic dock VS Magnetic clip for charging???

Hi All,
I have been looking at a few reviews of owners and their trials and errors
I would like to ask from those who have tried various docks and clip on chargers for the Z3 compact,
which of these would you recommend.
I am using a flap case with mine and don't want to end up purchasing something that totally doesn't fit
or completely useless in its ability to charge properly.
Could you give me some tips, ideas and feedback please??? Even if just listing names I don't mind
doing the search myself on the items.
Thanks!:good:
i've been using the Magnector since November, when i got the phone.
http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Performance-Xperia-Charging-Cable/dp/B00JEMESHG
zero issues. i chose the cable over any docks because i wanted some flexibility in case i needed to charge in my car, or while travelling; and i also wanted to be able to use it while it was charging.
I'm using the Deff microusb adapter and am very happy with it.
I have it pictured with my Rinke Fusion clear case here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58136303&postcount=21
I got it elsewhere, but it's available on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Original-Pack...rds=deff&pebp=1421284468288&peasin=B00KNLFS9E
I am using the original Sony DK48.
Battery life is OK and i can make small charges easier with it. But the device is a bit overpriced thought.

Is there really no battery case (a la Mophie) yet?

Kind of stunned to find there is basically nothing out there. This looks intriguing https://i-blades.com/products/pixel-4-smart-case-battery-memory-enviro-sensor-cases-sdcard but I can't tell if it's shipping, the cushioning looks really thin and it's like, you added an SD slot but you couldn't do a headphone jack??
Has anyone found anything else?
So there was 1 option on amazon from the company called "NEWDERY" but I think they're all sold out. They only have ones left for the 4 XL. I actually can't even find the listing anymore, about a week ago the listing was on amazon but it said that it was out of stock and now the listing is just gone. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see. You would think more companies would hop on this because our battery is so bad, but I guess not.

I have the newdery one, except I got mine from amazon in the US. It's great. Wireless charging works and I like that the bottom has no huge chin like some old school battery cases used to have. There is a button on the back next to LED battery life indicators for the case. Press and hold to turn on or off. It actually fast charges the phone too. It's obviously thick but it doesn't add much bulk in terms of the width, so it's actually still quite comfortable to hold in the hand. I personally don't use it everyday, i just got it for days I go on long adventures like hiking or theme parks.

Pixel Stand charger ?

I bought two Pixel Stands when I bought my Pixel 4.
One seems to charge fine, the other one charges intermittently, just charges with the white light on the stand glowing occasionally and then it glows amber occasionally and jumps back and forth.
I do have a Spigen Liquid Air case on my phone. If I didn't have two Pixel Stands, I would have put it down to having a case on it, but why does it work on one stand and not the other ? Do I have a faulty stand ? Surely one of my Pixel stands is not better than the other !
When I take my phone out of the case and put it on the suspected faulty stand it works fine !!!
Any thoughts please, apart from ditching the phone Spigen case ?
Did you get the stands from Amazon? Because those units are pretty hit-or-miss.
Both from the Google UK store, however, since posting this, I seem not to be having the issue again !!!

Question Pixel stand 2 AOD

Hi everyone, I've got the new Pixel Stand 2, it seems pretty good, but whenever I put my phone on it, the screen turns off, which is annoying as I use my phone as a night clock. I can't seem to find any settings for behaviour whilst on the stand, can anyone suggest anything?
In the Pixel Stand settings, should be on top right as you put the phone on the stand, there is an option to turn off the display when it is on the stand. Is it dark in the room when you put it on the stand?

I just solved it by finding the stand in the connected devices setting and taking it from there, thanks
Anyone with the Pixel Stand 2 having issues using it with a case? I'm using a Caseology case and it charges much slower, as I assume the coils aren't as flush to the phone with the case.

Yes.
The Spigen Tough Armor case constantly causes a realign message on the display. My Spigen Liquid Air case works fine.

My wife's Galaxy S20 with a thicker case works fine so it looks to be a Pixel issue. Unfortunate.

My OnePlus 8 Pro had the same issue with the same case; it would charge very slowly, or not charge at all depending how it was placed on the 30W WARP wireless charger.
More likely it's phones with faster than 15W charging that have these types of issues; thicker cases equals slow, or no charging, at least that's what I've experienced.
