Do you mean the Samsung Gear S2? If so, you don't have to 'mod' it. You just need to download the gear app and plug-ins. It's all on the Play Store.

Yes it works alright, download the 2 Samsung apps and plug in. It is not 100% but its better then nothing!

Yeah. Everytime I wanna play I gotta clear all the running apps and even then sometimes it lags.

The phone can't handle it. It requires more RAM. Also the game needs to be optimized for better performance. Also Pixel 2 XL isn't the best at gaming. There are other phones out there which do a fsr better job at this

I imagine that it has to do more with the customization options because they do use different firmware for each. The Pixel 2 XL had additional steps to unlock the bootloader in spite of the fact that the hardware in the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL was pretty much the same.
