Charging issue - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I have gs9, original usb type-c cable and charger. I found that cable can charge my phone just from one side not both sides despite it is type-c . How can find what the issue is? How can i fix it?
I checked another original cable+ charger, the problem is same as mentioned above. Just one side which is the same in two cables can charge my phone.

I had the same problem with my headphones once...turned out to be bad soldering on the usb type c port of my headphone (it was a charging and data port for new firmware) and had them replaced so maybe you can get your phone replaced too

If you have had your device for less than 14 days then I would recommend that you take it back to the retailer for a replacement. Otherwise take it to a Samsung Service Center for repairs.

USB Issues

Hello,
Im having a weird USB issue with my Note. I first noticed I started getting a red x whenever i tried charging the battery, meaning that it was not charging at its max capacity. Instead of 1.9 amps like my galaxy s4, my note is charging at 0.4 amps. I read up on it online, and most people pointed to the usb cable. I know my cable is fine, b/c my phone charges at 2 amps, and does not have any issues.
I swapped out the microusb flex cable with a new one i purchased online, and the issue still persists. I have 2 samsung 2 amp charger's and cables (one came with the tablet, the other with my s4) and both have the same issue. What else could it be?
I factory reset, and even tried installing a custom rom, and the issue still persists.
for most people its basically using wrong cable or charger with note , but i see you tried with original and ect. If i had this problem i would go to phone/tablet/accessories shop and say what i want to buy charger , and ask to try it with my tablet in shop, if it works you buy it, if not at least you will know for 100persent its not charger setup you have
Charger must support Apple Ipad 2A signaling, I suspect. The cable must probably have a 4-pin plug, like Samsung's, where the second GND contact is missing. All my other cables with fully populated plugs work, too, but the said contact is not necessarily connected to the GND line.
My old Garmin Street Pilot PNA with mini usb was using the fifth contact to tell whether to go into PC connectivity mode with nothing else, or charging mode while remaining operational.

Broke charger

I stepped on the phone end of my oneplus-one charger and I need a replacement I found a link in this forum but it's dead. The og charger would be great but now I need one for today. What should I be looking at as far as numbers go to be sure I'm getting a compatible charger for my OPO.?
Please describe it more clear, did the AC230V to DC5V usb broke or just the data cabel?
Charger
The wall charger that came with my phone. The end that I plug into the white wall box. So yeah the USB end of the data cable.
You can use any usb cable just search "usb cabel" on amazon and you will find millions.

a zillion oneplus one chargers on ebay--your opo is probably 5v 2 amp, but will charge very well with 1 amp, so you can borrow or use just about anything for a while.
don't know if it was a single case but someone here used a cheap cable and his device melted at the mini usb connector, so I would choose a cable which has the same specification as the original one.

G4 Charge/USB port issues

I've had my G4 since almost launch day and within weeks the supplied USB cable stopped charging the phone. I thought it was a cable problem, but it worked fine with other devices.
I tried other cables with the G4 and these still charged it so I thought nothing more of it until charging degraded with every USB cable I own to where the phone would only charge 20-30% during an overnight charge and the phone would frequently not recognise it was plugged in at all. I contacted LG who did a repair under warranty and all was fine.
I've now had the repaired phone back for about 3 weeks and the same problems are starting up again and it's only a matter of time until I am forced to return again for a repair.
Is anyone else having similar problems? I thought I may have just had an unlucky manufacturing problem, and the LG reps confirmed that to repair my phone they basically replace all the internal circuit boards and components rather than just replacing the individual component that is faulty (in this case the USB/charging port)
Basic debugging includes asking stupid questions, so please forgive but still answer any of those
Are you using a different charger? If so, check if that one is within specifications and if you do send in for repair again, use a different charger.
Are you propping up the device at an odd/weird angle or in a dock of some sort with the cable attached?
(As they replaced the entire print, it's probably not this, just the USB-micro port bent or broken.)
You could double check the wall outlets being used, there might be some kind of electrical problem there.
Either using all kinds of fancy electical testing gadgets, or stick a USB light into the hub or charger, does it flicker?
When sending it back for repairs, did they check the stock charger as well?
Hopefully these questions help you find any logical or plausible cause.

Hi FreezyExp,
1. I am using the standard charger that came with the phone, but this has not been repaired/replaced. I have tried other chargers too, but all the same issue.
2. No weird propping up or anything like that. If I hold my phone while it is plugged in it is constantly vibrating as the charger connects and disconnects, and if I place it on the desk to charge I have to ensure that I have at least 3-4" of cabe "on the desk" to give it enough support to make the connection.
3. Wall connection is fine and I have tried it with a range of outlets around the home, both with extension sockets used and plugged directly into the wall and there is no different. No flickering light when using a USB light either.
4. When I sent it back all they asked me to return was the main section of the handset - so no battery or rear cover, no cables or chargers etc
It does seem to be the same issue as last time, a USB connection becoming loose from the main motherboard, but it seems weird that I have had the same issue twice in the space of 4-5 months.
I've been having some sort of problem with my G4 usb port. If I plug it in to a computer, it will lose connection and get a connection again if I barely touch the end of the cord at the phone end. I've tried many different cords and different usb ports on my computer, but it still has problems.
I can't fast charge, either. When I plug it in to fast charge, it actually starts discharging even faster. I've had some extreme battery life problems, too. It drained from 100-36 the other night with everything disabled, and it's been doing that kind of thing a lot lately. I'm guessing that the charging port is what's messing up my battery life because it won't charge correctly.
Never dropped it or anything.
I got my G4 on January 24 and my USB port has also failed. I am getting a replacement from Verizon, but am concerned that a six month old phone has this issue.
I also own a G4 H815. A while ago the phone started not receiving any charge from the cable and I would have to prop it up from right under the cable's micro usb end. Thought it was because it was bent inside the port and not making connection with the cable so I had the port replaced. Now I'm experiencing the same problem and I think it might be the cable that's already gone kaput and is effing up the port itself. I took the phone to the same place to get the port replaced again and bought new cables (I lost both the original adapter and the cable, which were charging slow anyway. Now using a 2A Asus adapter which works great) and when I asked the guy at the repair shop, he says it's a chronic issue with G4 devices. I don't really understand how it would happen twice in just a few months even with a new charger port. What should I make of this? Did they replace my port with an already faulty one, cahrged me full price and now trying to sell this bogus or am I really doomed with this phone?

Erratic Charging

As of today, when I plug in the charger it will show the Dash charging symbol, then cut in and out a few times before it stays charging. I updated to 5.0.3 yesterday if it means anything.
Is this normal? I couldn't find anyone else reporting this.
It happens to me too, even back in Nougat. It starts as regular charging and then a couple of seconds later, switches to Dash. I figure the delay is due to the charger and phone figuring out how much battery the phone has left to determine how much amps to push through. Dash charging operates at different amperages depending on the voltage of the battery. Thing is, that either that never seemed to happen on my OnePlus 5 or I never noticed it, but on the 5t it does.
I think I'd be more comfortable with your issue. When I see the charging LED flashing and the charging notification disappearing and reappearing, it's unsettling.
My Nexus 5X would do this as pocket lint would build up in the USB port, preventing the USB cable from fully seating. Every so often I would have to take a small needle (something non conductive would probably be better) and carefully clean around the edges to pull out the lint. I was always amazed at how much build up really does end up in the USB port and headphone jack.
I used to have that issue with old micro USB ports and this definitely reminds me of that. I'm concerned though because I've had the phone less than a week and the port is clean. I also get that satisfying 'click' when plugging in the charger.
Ah, well that probably isn't your problem then. I would try another charger and cable to try and isolate the problem between the phone, cable, and charger.
Remember the OnePlus cable is unique, you can't use just any USB C cable with the dash charger. I believe IIRC the OEM cable has a 10k resistor, while most in spec USB C cables will have a 56K resistor. However you can use another charger and cable and see if it cuts out as well.

We have three 5t phones here all purchased last week. I tried all three charges that came with the phone and it does this with each one, all plugged into different outlets.
We updated a 2nd one to 5.0.3 and now this one also has the charging notifications flicker on and off about 7 times before it stays charging normally. I haven't tested the 3rd yet because it was fully charged when I came home.
It's odd that it is two of our devices now doing this and I haven't seen anyone else with this problem. I would assume that we got phones out of a defective batch, but they were definitely not doing this before the update.
Just an update, I wiped system and cache and it still does this.
It didn't do it when I plugged in at 88% immediately after wiping. But it does do it when I plug in at around 30% like I usually do.
I'm wondering now if they all do this after the 5.0.3 update and no one really notices.

Charger replacement

My charger is failing now, its output voltage has significantly dropped. Does anyone know a good charger replacement?
I think Xiaomi sells the official charger from their store/app. You give it a try
I'm having the same problem since 3 4 months. I bought the mivi cable and same problem was still there..i thought the problem is with the cable then i replaced it with brand new cable but the problem is still there. The actual problem is with the charging port.
