Security Update Frequency? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Questions & Answers

I really prefer a "smaller phone" and am leaning toward the Xperia XZ2 Compact. Could someone please report on how frequently Sony releases Android security updates for this phone, and how current they are? My current Motorola gets a security update every couple of months, but it's always two months behind. (i.e. toward the beginning of November, they released security updates as of Sept 1.)
Thanks

Since i have the xz2c, Sony released every month an update with latest android security patch level.

if you are looking for security updates Sony is your first choice, only pixel phones are faster

No oreo in march either, just a nice security patch..
Who said that security update and Oreo can't be in the same month? A little more optimism.

The changelog would've said Oreo in it.

What part of that says "there will be no Oreo update in March"? It just says that the current update will include security patches through 3/1. Nowhere does it say it will be the only update in March. In fact, the staged rollout for Oreo on Lenovo/moto phones has already started in Australia and New Zealand with the X4, and the G5 Plus is on the short list to get the update after the X4, so the chances are really good that we'll start to see the G5 Plus getting Oreo in March or April (the PR firm handling the release of information hasn't given an exact date, just that the rollout has started, and the list of devices that will get it after the X4)

The january patch changelig was released in november.. and we got it in februsry with no oreo.. i'm sure the same will happen now..
Also, we'll get oreo after the z series, which has got a new soak test.. so my guess is the end of april or may

Which z series phone is running a soak test at the moment?

Seems it's the Z, Z Play and Z2 Play at the moment in soak test from their respective XDA forums. There seems to be a couple of reports suggesting the Z Force is also in soak test https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75547609&postcount=7 X4 and Z2 Force have the OTA for Oreo (looks like Z2 Force came out a few days ago).
Maybe after their official release, the G4 Plus/G5 (Plus) and G5S (Plus) devices are next? That is, if the G6 release doesn't get in the way...
I think motorola is waiting for the G5 to reach 1 year so they wln't have to provide 8.1 update..

Pretty sure they'll release only 8.0 and not 8.1
My take in this is that it will take about 15 days into March until we see this patch being pushed to at least one of the regions.
(Likely to be retbr first) [lucky me, br]
echo92 could be right though, we may see Soak Tests for the G5 Plus.
Actually, I think the Z Play will very, very soon receive Oreo officially
Check this: https://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/Solution/MS126755
I mean, always keep an eye on the Lenovo Support pages. Search for Maintenance, Oreo. They update it almost daily.

My guess: they either release 8.1 for the G5 S and G5 S plus or they will release 8.1 for both G5 and G5S plus models..
I actually decided to analyze the time between update release dates and update notes date in the Lenovo Support page...
If my calculations are correct we may only receive Oreo in May. That if they don't decide to come up with an April security patch for Nougat.

They obviously aren't including Oreo with this update, but that doesn't mean they can't have a separate update for Oreo without the security patch

This could be true.. remember the soak tests from the Z series got december security patch when stock 7.1 already had it..

Android One devices are the right way, my next device will be one of them
I would go for custom ROM.. but i'll lose 10% of my camera quality and i won't have stock moto apps which i like..
Anyway, considering how P looks by now, i prefer ore a hundred times.. let's see how this goes until august

Not true, you could always just use one of the HDR+ ports which really improve camera quality

Updates Cycle... by OP

Hi all..
I've just bought a Nokia 7Plus and love it's updates cycle among many other things.
But now I feel I should have waited for OP6 ( my earlier phone had broken in April and thought OP6 would come after June end).
Just one question-
How is the security updates cycle of OnePlus?
Do they make you wait like Honor and HTC or are they better?
Thanks
Up to op5t (and disregarding the current state of the op3/t), they've made you wait up to 2 months or so for a new security patch.
Now, on the stable branch, the op3 hasn't been updated in 4 months, while on the beta branch it's on last month's security patch. The op5/t both are on last month's security patch on both the stable and beta branch.
It's up to anybody's guess whether they'll take better care with the op6, but Google would like to make the companies which sell treble enabled phones and have Android P available on them to keep up with the security updates.
I hope this cleared up any question you had.

There will still be development since Google stopped suporting Pixel ?

guys will there still be new custom roms, new builds and a lot of development now that the device is not anymore supported by google ? will there be android 10 custom roms when it will come out or it will be impossible since there will be no more official google updates ?
Is Google really dropping the Pixel exactly 24 months after launch?
I thought it on the radar for longer
i heard they stop development on updates in october, they will still update the security patch till october 2019, but i was wondering if indie developpers will still take time to build roms on it or they will consider it as a lost of time
Devs will still support the device if they own it.
Pretty crazy how quickly these things depreciate. Used Pixel XLs are going for pennies.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Well, security updates and bug fixes should be available for one more year, till October 2019, just no new major OS updates - Pie is final for Pixel / Pixel XL First Gen. Officially.
It will be always an update to the next major OS (10)
Pixel devices are well known by the dev so no problem to custom roms

Nokia 3.2 TA-1156 does not receive updates - last update was April 2019

I buy for our company only Nokia devices as Android One is for me the single most important feature! The devices are cheap and overall ok. Everything was smooth, until now.
We used Nokia 3.1 in the past until now as they ran out of production and they get kinda old, so I bought now the first 3.2 devices and I noticed, that the newest security update is only April 2019!
I tried multiple ways to force and update, which didn't work, and even had an hour long chat with the support telling me that for this build 00EEA_1_03D is really the latest update April 2019 and he cannot help me at all.
How can this be as Android One should always have the latest version of security updates?
We bought the devices on amazon.de where someone else also stated that he was stuck on April 2019.
So does anyelse have issues or experience with stuck or non-monthly-updates for the 3.2?
The same issue here, I have a brand new TA-1164 (EU, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB storage) model and it is stuck on July 2019 update. There are more reports of this issue in Reddit Nokia forum.
The official Nokia support also told me this model has compass sensor which is not true. Unfortunately you can't get any good support these days
And there are similar reports for Nokia 4.2. The Android One program is just another Google joke as the whole platform is crap when it comes to security and support.
There is a long discussion about it https://community.phones.nokia.com/...te-and-it-is-stuck-with-build-00eea-1-03d-why
Has anyone resolved the issue? Nokia support is unable to help. It seems as the 00EEA_ firmware family is completely unsupported.
I've just received 2019-08 update, still outdated. You have to recheck for new update again after the restart, it downloads 2019-09 right now.

Question Poco F3 update support

Hi, I would like to buy used Poco F3 but I wonder how long will it be supported by security patches. Is 2023 the last year of updates for this phone?
2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
It was delivered with Android 11.
Actually Android 12 so calculate for urself.
Should be upcoming Miui 14/Android 13 be last major update while security update will have for another year I think. But you never know. I mean Poco F2 Pro released 2020 was not eligible for Miui 14 but Miui 14 is now going to be release. Only its Miui 14 with Android 12.
Yeah, just got MIUI14 / Android 13, last major update. Also security update are not always every month but sparse.
Dude. This device will unofficially last for so many years with its rich and vast community. Such a capable device is so worth it. Believe me.
I've bought it just for the sake of the hardware. The moment I received it. I instantly unblocked bootloader. A week later, I started my beautiful experience with AOSPs.
Definitely a device you can feel so good about, for having such an amazing performance.
For the MIUI 14 with Android 13 on my Xiaomi phone, the Android security update is 2022-12.
