Install GCam on Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus without unlocking of the bootloader? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Themes, Apps, and Mod

Hi all,
I would like to install GCam on my Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, but without unlocking of the bootloader! Is that possible?
If it is not possible, then is there some another camera apk which would work almost like the GCam,and has the same features, but to work without need of rooting of the phone or unlocking of the bootloader?
Please tell me! Thanks to all in advance! Best regards!

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use GCam without unlocking the bootloader, you can do it without root but not with locked bootloader. The app that I can recommend is Open Camera from Play Store, give it a try.

Thank you for replying!
Could you please tell me, which are the disadvantages of unlocking of the bootloader of my Redmi 5 Plus, and also what becomes unsafe, and how could that be fixed (like the passing of the SafetyNet test, using banking apps, fixing of the issue with the fingerprint scanner that becomes not reliable anymore)?
With one word how to fix everything that becomes unsafe after unlocking of the bootloader?
Thanks in advance!

I got RN5 (global) which has Android 8.1.0.OPM1.171019.011 / MIUI 9.6.4.0
I would like to install google camera to have nice photo quality like pixel.
Came across this article which says we can do it without need to root.

Yes, you can get Gcam to work on your device by using these steps, If you don't wanna root your device.
Though rooting your device will make the process 5x easier, it's up to you. ?
Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
Have a nice day
You have to unlock BL to do:
- Install twrp recovery
- Flash CameraAPI2 enabler zip file
- Install GCam
But if not root, you can't take front HDR+ Enhanced and Portrait.
If you root you can solve front cam problem.
I don't know why you don't want root. If something relate to finance apps, magisk hide will pass easily!

Yes you can, take a look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/themes/gcam-root-flashing-twrp-t3813230
Yeah you can do it but you need to unlock your bootloader at least if not root ...if you unlock your bootloader then you can temporarily boot twrp and by using you can enable camera 2 api and thus, install gcam
You can use ADB on MIUI to enable Camera2 API, which works without root.

Netflix HD Widevine L1 test hidding Netflix on Magisk and unloacked bootloader

Hi Guys, we know 6T is One of the Netflix HD 4K certificated devices for L1 certification, unlike the Mi 8, and this can be from my personal side a decision point because I do use 4K contents a lot.
Now I know that after unlooking the bootloader we loose this ability and the service get recognized as an L3 Widevine device because of root.
I think that if we hide root through Magisk, and filter Netflix APP and all related software/services/apps/ and DRM info app etc, by correcting configuring latest Magisk, and of course we add also play store and Google service framework to Magisk hide filter after cancelling data in order to get on play store "certified device", I think that L1 certification will work but I can try test by myself because I don't have the 6T.
Can anyone make these tests and confirm once for all and for everyone that if we unlock the bootloader on 6T there will be never a way to have the L1 certifications?
Can anyone with 6T ALREADY unlocked bootloader check DRM info app if it reports L1 by hidding Netflix in Magisk? No need for risk or operations, just who already have an unlocked 6T with magisk, can just check, no operations to do, no request particular, just a check to know if it works or not.
Useless to reply to above comment, the guy must have some serious relationship and inner hate problems, go get solved for your sake. :*

The OP6T has L1 when it's stock/locked bootloader.
Unlocking the bootloader puts it to L3.
OP if you can elaborate on this that would be great, I don't particularly care about L1 but I'll happily test. You aren't specific at all as to what you think should be hidden through magisk. Maybe download the official 9.0.6 OTA and look through it and list exactly what you want done.
I hid Netflix in MagiskHide and repacked Magisk Manager. I know it works because I pass SafetyNet and can play Pokemon Go.
DRM Info still says L3 with an unlocked bootloader. Didn't bother to hide DRM Info, but it wouldn't matter (it's not a detection issue, the decryption keys are unreadable with the bootloader unlocked).
Hope that answers your question OP. Also, this should have been in Q&A.
I don't even have Netflix installed and it's L3. Yet on my v30, rooted with Xposed and with Oreo and Netflix, I'm at L1.
Other than the OS, the Widevine is vslersion1.0 (v30 L1) and 6t is 14.0 (L3) maybe we could port v1 somehow?
I have no idea how any of this works so just throwing ideas out there

Read a bit before making theories. Widevine ISN'T linked to root or OS! It's encoded directly in the chip and is only linked to bootloader status, which can't be hidden. You can hide root 234678 times under 35678 carpets for 368322 apps Netflix will still be reading L3 as it's at hardware device level.
You're asking to add oranges and bananas
For the x-th time

It's in the Trusted Zone of the processor. Nothing to do with OS

What he said...to the original poster, I'm sure you've read my previous threads. Any modern device has Widevine and bootloader status intertwined. It's not going to happen.
Unlock bootloader = L3
Locked bootloader = L1
What I had to decide (and you will too) as to which is more important...
Substratum / Titanium Backup
<<OR>>
HD Video for DRM content + no jumping through hoola hoops for updates of ROM (reinstalling TWRP/Magisk) and updates of apps (constantly re-applying substratum themes)
iYTBP & system-wide ad-blocking is possible these days w/o root so I didn't use that for criteria.

Off-topic but: Could you elaborate on rootless system-wide ad-blocking? I didn't encounter anything working as good as AdAway with root in terms of blocking ads within apps and the web.

Thank you very much, mister! I tried some VPN-based blocking apps before but they didnt work quite well. Blokada is open source and works very well as far as I can tell in this short time. Thank you!
Blokada is VPN based which is a no-no for some people, if you're not aware of it being a problem for you it probably isn't.
Of you're still wondering about this all I do is find the Netflix apk online download it, install it and then my phone let's me get updates through the play store for it again. I'm not sure if it tricks it but I don't do anything other than that and I haven't had any issues with Netflix. Bootloader unlocked with root and mods

There's a test for resolution within Netflix I forget how to get to it if you Google it you could probably find it but can you run that and report back the resolution if it bypasses it you should get 1080p or higher but if it doesn't it will be at most 480p
Edit: just search test patterns on Netflix its in there

I'm not sure about any of that I'm running 1080 but I also hide magisk from Netflix so maybe that helps? Either way it's definitely a solution. As soon as you unlock your bootloader Google play hides Netflix. But if you find the apk online and install it then root and hide magisk you should be fine

Finerprint sensor get working again after unlock, all ideas

Good evening together,
I have opened a new topic so that we can do everything together regarding a fix for the fingerprinter.
This is known to be broken when we open the bootloader.
I really hope that together we can find out how we can fix this.
I once looked at all files between de Realme X and the X2.
Unfortunately, I have almost no discernible differences.
Thus, the fix of Realme for the X might also be in the bootloader itself.
Where Widevine is still set from L1 to L3.
Maybe you have an idea?
Up for this topic.
Try to fix fingerprint. Its available only for a17 ROM.
Flash in twrp or unpack and replace files by hands.
also may be need wipe dalvik-cashe.

If you are on stock Rom, there is a Magisk module in the telegram group which enable that option through the defaults MIUI apps for dialing/contacts.
Otherwise you may want to flash a regional Rom which support this feature out of the box, Indonesian Global is the one (code ID).
Hope this helps.

Yes magisk module require magisk to me installed, which means systemless root (it does not modify your system partition, just to boot one, easily reflashable).
Rooting requires recovery, recovery requires unlocked bootloader.
So unlocking bootloader (which can be relocked afterward) is the first thing to do since it require to wait for 2 weeks before it gets unlocked.
Besides that, yes you can stay on stock rom.
Hope this helps.
Can't be done without unlocking, rooting etc.

Question Rollback to OOS13, need help please

Hey guys, sadly I have to come back to OOS as there is no human way to get bank apps running - when I unroot phone it works so somehow the apps are detecting magisk even with all the tweaks applied...
Actually I'm on android 13 with cr-droid custom rom, so which is the way to rollback to original rom?
thanks in advance
Yes there is many ways. Look bank apps source in java and see if it scan for root and patch it.
