How to change your DPI settings to take advantage of the big screen - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

1. Settings.
2. System
3. About
4. Tap Build Number 10 times, until you are a developer.
5. System - Developer options
6. Drawing - Smallest Width #.
There are several guides on which DPI settings to use if you search, but I prefer around 600-640 to take advantage of the big screen. I hope this guide is helpful for some of you who weren't aware of this option. :highfive:

Ok but the notification tray and toggles are so big because seems to be unnafected by DPI change.

I set my on 485 dpi Honor Note 10 value. Yeah to bad that notification tray and toggles are still big and don't change. It also resets after reboot.

Doesn't this also mess up the app icons?

What DPI do you like? Lower?
I noticed today that I hadn't set the sizes in Display Settings first, to a smaller font, and then in developer options the DPI. The smaller font made a big difference, but is easy to overlook. I'm at 600 now, and everything works and looks fine. :cyclops:

My eyes couldn't see that,, man I'm to old

My dpi change keeps resetting back to default... How do I stop this from happening?

It will reset every time you reboot the device. Also when you change the display settings it may revert back to normal.

Because even with Display Size at it's smallest setting it's still pretty big.

Definitely not! I keep the font at large, but set the screen width at 540, which is good for me.

This is where Huawei neuteres Android. Change the smallest width setting and it is reset every time you restart the phone. The Android System and some of the SystemUI elements don't even change when setting a higher number. Once you're rooted you're better off editing the build.prop in vendor and adding the qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx line in to get everything to change like it's supposed to. Be careful not to go too low on the density or else EMUI glitches out to the point where your lockscreen will no longer function. It's one of the things about EMUI that really irks me and instead of Huawei fixing the issue they just seem to ignore it. That and not being able to move the wifi and data icons to the right where they should be.

We need root soon. Changing the width in developers options messes with some apps. Also, the navigation bar at the bottom doesn't change which blocks the exit button in my trading app. Quite annoying.

Ofcouse you need root . Download Romtoolbox from play store go to build.prop /Ro.sf.lcd.density/ set property value to 240/ reboot ( but you will have little issue like when receive call, the answer & end button will misalign ,still working normal though)

Have you adjusted Menu > Settings > Accessibility > Font Size?
You can change that to "Tiny." Not sure if that's what you are looking for though?
The font sizes in Accessibility dont realy change them that much. Tiny is not that small or I just have good vision.... Custom launchers can help w/ the icon sizes.
I dont like how much room the toggles and screen brightness slider take up in the notification window. In portrait mode they take up like half the screen.

Sorry , for delay feedback been busy with real life job. Here is the 240 dpi mod link which compiable with note2 and I alway use Apex launcher Pro as my default launcher. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873026 ( you must set LCD Density at 240 dpi when you use those Mod )
I've noticed in the past that sometimes a DPI of 241 works better than 240. Might be worth trying if you run into any other issues with alignment etc.

How to change screen DPI on T3

To decrease T3's screen dpi.... Just head over to build.props can b found in root system.... Edit the build.props by adding a line at the end, type "ro.sf.lcd_density=280"
320 is the stock value
I found 280 is looking best...
Try..
Make sure to make a backup of ur build.props first

If you want to use it on single apps you can do it (root required) by installing xposed framework and downloading the module xposed app settings.

Screen DPI

Im planning to purchase pixel XL but as i don't know if will be possible to root and change dpi. Does any of u know whats the screen DPI?
Thanks.

You can change the DPI within system settings now. I believe the lowest setting equates to something like 500-520. You can of course root, or just use the adb shell wm density command to change without root.

I was thinking the same thing. I set my display size to the smallest available, but it seems like I can make icons/text even smaller with further adjustments which is nice. I think smallest made my DPI 484. I made it slightly higher to 526.
I know this is out of place but is a quick question seeing as it dies apply to one of my two devices, I have two Samsung Galaxy Note 3's (SM-N900), one is stock (no rooted), the other I'm running a smooth 7.1 Nougat Pixel XL rom.
My question:
Can I use the adb shell wm density command to change without root on my stock note 3?

dpi too big

One of my most anticipated Android nougat features (please come sooner) is the scaling option in display settings.
And because I find the dpi in the p2 to be too big and I don't have poor eye sight I need it more compact to fit as much as possible into the screen.
So How do I change dpi to something like 400 dpi and would there be any bugs in doing so ?
Non_root method would be appreciated since I haven't OEM unlocked yet maybe I don't plan to
i have seen many people discussed about it, they changed DPI in ADB terminal by using some command, they reported of no problems
Method for changing the dpi, no root required!
Enable USB debugging in developer settings.
Connect the phone via USB to pc.
Start adb and find the phone:
Code:
adb devices
Then enter the command:
Code:
adb shell wm density 400 && adb reboot
Assuming you said you want the dpi of 400, if anyone is looking for a different dpi just change the value.
The phone will reboot.
Enjoy your new smaller dpi.
Profit.

You can always reverse it, just go see for yourself but yes, there are a few scaling problems. For me, it's totally worth it because the DPI is way too high

Help with Custom Font , Status Bar icon resize in Android 10 ONEUI 2.0

Hi,
First, if this is not the right forum to post this, excuse me.
Now the question, I just received my new S20 + and so far I love everything about the phone, you know it comes from an S7 until it gives up. The problem I have is that, on my previous phone (S7), I was able to changed the font size of my clok, Wi-Fi, LTG antenna symbol and the battery charge percentage indicator, in my new s20 + I can't find where to do this is no option, I spend a whole day, searching on Google looking for a answer that can help resize my icon's in the top bar to make them larger, the actual size is so small that I have to put glasses to see it. Do you guys have any solution to this or help?
Thanks in advance.

I have called "Samsung care", and they told me that, they do not have any solution as right now. They did recognized and mentioned to me that, the preview version had the option to resize font, but for some reason, it was removed from the new version..... go and figure that one out smh..
yeah.. samsung tends to remove features they "think" people do not use.
For me, i still miss the good old samsung camera on the S7 and my note 8 before the oreo update.. where u can zoom in or zoom out by pressing and holding the shutter button (the white circle), and drag it upwards (to zoom in) and drag in downwards to zoom out.
i have no idea why they removed it.. i loved it as i can zoom in or out using only one hand.. new camera app i need to use one hand to hold, another hand to pinch the screen to zoom in..
not to mention some old samsung apps that is very useful, like the snapbizcard.. snap a business card and everything is saved into your contacts, automatically. it was super useful. i tried to transfer the apk from my samsung note 8 to the s20, but the app crashed everytime i want to take a photo of a namecard.

What do you mean "android 10" ? all galaxy s20 are android 10 ! it is the same as screen zoom , higher value give you smaller status bar . i can get 480 but it dose not make any different .
That's weird....i have screen zoom set to lowest and text size to second to lowest and icons are not small at all....check my screenshot
I am trying to make regular icons smaller....they are still to big even with 5x6
