Heat While Charging With Pixel Stand? - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I'm considering purchasing the Pixel Stand, but before I do I would like to get feedback from current owners about how warm the phone gets while charging with it. If it does get warm, is it possible to limit charging speed to reduce heat? I don't care about charging my phone quickly since I only charge it at night.

i would say the back of the phone gets warm but i wouldnt say hot.. i had same concen initially

Mine doesn't get warm at all I do use a case though idk if that makes a difference. But when I pick it up it's always room temp.

It is noticeably warm to the touch after wireless charging but not much different than when taking a long video or playing a game for a long time.
As for limiting speed, using a wireless charger that isn't the Pixel Stand will limit it to ~500mAh as the fast wireless charging is proprietary and exclusive (for now) to the Pixel Stand.

Charging overnight : battery 57°C - temperature too high

I went to sleep last night leaving the phone to charge with the wall charger. This morning the phone only had a 71% charge and was ultra-hot. These lithium batteries don't like high temperatures.
Anyone else had these high charge temperatures?
It seems faulty ...
I did couple of times charging overnight, and so far so good ... always came back with 100% and cold.
i noticed that if i leave the phone to charge battery down on my leather couch it heats up but on my glass table it is fine think it to do with heat distrabution.
so to save any problems i bought a desk dock charger and never heated up since
Do you have a link to the desk dock you bought?
I was quite disappointed that the Desire couldn't use the Nexus One's stand so I'm interested in the alternatives.
Mine gets very hot when charging from the USB on my computer (and it charges veeeeeery slowly), but using the wall charger it charges fast and stays cool to the touch...
I an charging with the wall charger as we speak with phone on and from 6% and though the phone is very slighty warm it's definately not hot.
Maybe you didn't put the usb in properly and had a bad connection?
Was wifi on?? That affects heat. Any running apps??
Charging with the wall charger normally charges my phone from 10% to 100% in little over an hour while staying cool. I never do anything special to stop apps, last night nothing special was running (no movies or music or heavy cpu stuff).
The heat was located at the lower side of the phone. Under the battery lies the cpu (and gpu) and they were radiating the heat in my opinion, not the battery itself.

Anyone else having crazy heat problems when charging?

This phone is amazing, and I love it, but holy God it turns into an oven super quick when charging or using some intensive tasks like video calling or charging.
Don't know about the 10 (yet) but the area around the camera gets burning hot when I'm gaming on my OnePlus One.
What kind of temperatures are you getting? The hottest mine has every gotten while charging is 43 degrees celsius. I use the stock HTC quick charger and I don't use my phone while its charging.
My HTC 10 does not get any hotter than any other phone I have ever owned. And this is the FASTEST charging phone I have ever owned. Full charge in one hour in most situations.

If you are doing anything intensive when charging, all phones will get warm/hot. The HTC 10 will be particularly noticeable since the majority of the body is made of metal. The only way the that the heat from the CPU/GPU to escape is via the metallic body.
How to fix samsung galaxy pocket neo GT-S5310I (Bootloop)?
Mine is running at a normal temperature while charging...
I've recently got the HTC 10 and it does get warm when it's charging but not to the point of it being uncomfortable. And it cools down really fast too...

You aren't using the correct charger. There are other reports on XDA about this same issue.

Gets no hotter than my n6 m7 m8 and s7 get while charging
No problems with QC3 chargers, a regular 2A charger and charging via computer USB ports for me.
I've even gamed or used Navigation while charging with the QC3 chargers without heat issues (i.e., it gets warm but still not as much as my Nexus 6P or LG G2).
It might get a little warm if I'm using it (say Youtube) while charging, but when it is on it's own or just browsing the web or facebooking it does not get hot.
Is the heating problem very big issue

Question How high should I let the battery temp go when charging wirelessly?

So I have had my pixel 6 pro for about a month. First thing I did was put it in an otterbox case, screen protector, and a pop socket. I decided to give wireless charging a try, so I bought a special pop-socket brand wireless charger that claims to work better with phones that have a popsocket on them.

I read reviews about people claiming their phone got hot, and I did expect the phone would get warm. This is wireless charging..... in a case.. etc.
So I've determined via temperature monitoring that my phone gets to a max temp of 107F when charging. I really do love that when I go to bed at night I can throw this thing on the charger and it stays on the charger thanks to the pop socket. Since it has 8 hours to charge, and it does charge slower than normal, I don't consider the slower charging rate to be a problem. But the temperature does give me some concern. It peaks at about 20 minutes, and stays pretty solid between 105 to 107 until I take it off the charger. Once removed, it seems to dissipate its heat quickly, being back to a normal temperature in about 15 minutes. Temperatures are as read from a battery temp app I have called 3C Battery Manager. When fast charging, I see the temps go to about 100F, so it's really not that much warmer. But when fast charging, it also wouldn't sit at 100F for 8 hours.
So should I be worried about the phone potentially being at 107F for 8 hours a day?
I thought that the wireless thing would be great since I wouldn't be plugging into a USB cable every night when I sleep. But with a temperature (and combined longevity) concern, I'm really not sure what I should do.
Opinions? Thoughts?

Temps are okay as long as they under 40° Celsius. Normally a phone will not exceed 35° C. Wireless charging is a bit different, since that creates a heckload of heat, but even then it's not a big deal, since the Pixel 6 has a built-in protection against temperature, meaning it will reduce the charging speed to protect itself if necessary.

Thanks for the reply. The highest I've recorded was 41.6C, which translates to the 107F I mentioned above.

Question problem with wireless charging since Android 13

Hello!
Do many of you have issue with wireless charging since Android 13. I have this issue since Beta 4 and still available in stable verison.
I have already tried to disable adaptive charging or intelligent charging, but with no improvement.
After a period of time it stopped charging. A restart of the phone solve the issue.
I use Pixel stand 1gen and 2nd gen. On both the same behavior. I also see this issue on Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 6 Pro both on Beta 4 and now on stable version.
Normal charging works pretty fine without any issue. Normally after a restart wireless charging works fine for a period of time.
For sure I do in beta a feedback to developer but issue is still open and not fixed. Probably one of you have an idea to solve this or have an idea what´s cause this issue, because obviously not all of you have this issue seen until now!
thanks
I have noticed similar wireless charging issues getting much worse on Android 13. I have always disabled adaptive charging since I often have to get up long before my alarm and still need my phone fully charged for the day.
Since the update to Android 13, it takes a full 6 hours for my phone to charge from 50% to 100% on the official Google pixel stand (1st generation). On my Pixel 4XL (pre Android 13) the same stand takes about 2 hours to charge it from 0% to 100%.
There is some bonkers bad charging regulation in Android 13 going on. I monitor the charging stats using Inware and find it only charges at <3W at most (where it used to charge 8-10W, and still does on pre-13 Pixel 4xl, so I know the stand is working fine).
In fact, it charges so slowly and therefore takes so long that after 4 or 5 hours, it makes my phone so hot (reaches ~40C) that it often has no choice but to stop wireless charging altogether. I think in its zeal to throttle wireless charging as much as possible, Android 13 actually ends up making the phone much much hotter over the long term for having to charge for SO long that it often doesn't even get to finish charging at all.
I really hope they figure this out and fix it. Unless this is all just a ploy to force us to buy the second gen wireless charging stand for $80 just for the fan... (but actually you say you have the same problem on the 2nd gen stand, so I don't know lol)
I have a 2nd generation Pixel stand that was a Xmas gift, and it, overall, charges really no better than a respected 3rd party 15W stand.
Haven't upgraded to A13 because of the terrible reports from wireless charging, and I'm using Renovate magisk tweaks that doesn't fully support A13 yet. However, when I take the A13 plunge, I'll post how it works on the 2nd generation stand...
i had an issue immediately after updating but after restarting the phone ive not had any problems with wireless charging in the last few days.
A13 here. Pixel Stand 2gen.
I have to keep taking my phone off the stand and putting it back till it works. It will never work on optimize. I have to set it to max.
I've been playing with different cases while wireless charging and monitoring the phone temperature with Inware, and have noticed a pattern.
1. After A13 update, charging is much more strictly throttled based on phone temperature. Where wireless charging used to pause when the phone reached ~38C, now it pauses ~35C. I assume this is to allow the phone to cool before continuing charging (which it often does), but for the most part, the phone retains a lot of warmth (and can actually keep warming) with or without charging so long as it's on the charger, making wireless charging pretty much a lost cause if the phone is at all warm to begin with.
2. I've monitored the temperature of the phone while wireless charging in different cases. In my cloth case, the phone warms up to 35C quickly. It barely cools during the pause in wireless charging, so it pretty much just fails at charging altogether. Overnight, it will *almost* fully charge my phone after 6 hours. *Almost.*
In my tpu case, the phone stays between 30C and 35C pretty consistently. Overnight, it will fully charge over 4 to 6 hours consistently.
In my case with a clear plastic back, it seems to stay even cooler, and can fully charge in under 4 hours. Same with no case.
So (at least in my case) the wireless charging issue seems to be connected to overzealous temperature-dependent charging-speed throttling, which seems to bring down the throttling threshold so low that case choice makes a huge difference in how/if my phone will wirelessly charge at all, where this wasn't an issue at all before A13.
Humm........ So, since I was used to the Stand gen 2 on A12, I just thought it didn't really work on A13. Leave it on the charger. After about 20 seconds, it stops saying to realign the phone and the blinking lights disappear. It works, just have to be patient.
So I just came to post my new experience. I just got the Ghostek Covert Pixel 6 Pro case. I was using an OtterBox defender case. With that case every time I put my phone on the charger, the white led would always bink on and off because it had a hard time getting the connection. It would eventually get the connection.
This new case, I have no connection issues. It's instantaneous. I'm also getting better charging speeds.
With the OtterBox defender case, I would have between 13-15% charging speed.
This screenshot is with my new case.
After fully charging
If you have enabled fast wireless charging then disable it. I hope this will work for you.

Question Heat whilst charging Pixel Watch

I'd just like to find out if anyone else has found that whilst charging that the watch can become a little hot?
Yes, it gets hot when charging, it's fine after a few minutes tho.
Should be fine
For me the issue was that it got hot and stopped charging. Some other people commented that it depend on power source, if charging of pixel power adaptor or charging from laptop. I didn't test with laptop yet, just limit to short charging so it doesn't get hot, because it will battery if it gets hot too often.
gets nice and warm for me, totally normal for wireless chargers, especially in devices this size. Never got so hot as to be uncomfortable to wear right after charging.
Yeah, charging with for example Samsung 25w charger, watch gets hot after 40% of charging and stopped at 90%, charged with laptop, no issues, not so hot. So it depends on charger.
