Anyone using the phone in Canada? how's your LTE connection? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Looking to purchase this in Canada , but wanted to get a sense of how things are going for people who already have this in Canada. Does the lack of band 28, affect the LTE connection in anyway?
Thanks.

Was gonna post a thread on this. Really curious about this phone. Would love a Canadian perspective

Been using now for couple weeks. Cannot notice ANY difference than my Galaxy Note 9. May argue that the signal seems stronger actually.

I got the phone(8/256gb)yesterday and I am on Fido. So far the 4g works well. But I don't see the 4G+ like I use to when I was using my Mate RS.

I thought it wasn't supposed to show 4G+ was it? like that's by design. Unless I am wrong?

That worries me. If people are not seeing 4g+ in Canada, then should I really be ordering this phone in the first place?

I live in sweden and are getting 60 Mbit with my Mate 20 X and 200 Mbit with my iPhone XS Max with the same SIM and place. So for me it is not very good. Can of course work better in Canada

Getting the phone tomorrow. Will post my feedback soon.

This is what I am getting with my Xs Max here in Sweden. The Mate 20 X I have gets 60-70 in the same spot and the LTE connection has been much slower than the Xs everywhere I have tried it

Can you watch Netflix in HD.
No "Ok Google" right?
Can you still use the Google Services? Google Pay/Play?
Any Chinese influences on the phone that is removable or even non-removable?
I heard that you can't use "Ok Google" it was replaced with some Chinese AI.
Please let me know. I'm interested but I don't wanna get the Global Version 6GB/128GB
Straight up looking for 8GB/256GB.
Hey thanks!

No it was on LTE, my carrier is called Telenor. And I also have a carrier named 3. One is for work and one private. Have boxed my Mate 20 X and will be returning it. Have done testing a hundred times swapping SIM between my Mate 20 X, iPhone XS Max and XZ2 compact and the Mate came dead last every time

I get 4g+ with VOLTlte here in Canada on Telus

No I have the Chinese model AL00

I get LTE+ around Halifax, Nova Scotia, connecting on bands 4 and 7. I haven't had the HD symbol come up yet (indicating volte). Do I have to ask Telus to enable it?

If I remember correctly I believe they did enable it while back when I inquired about their WiFi calling service which they have. Just doesn't seem to work on the AL00 variant. Not really needed anyway.
Also check in Network settings for VOLTlte is enabled

My reception has been excellent, great call quality as well. I am using Freedom Mobile 10gb plan.

More info. In case its useful to someone.
Chinese version. Using Freedom Mobile in Calgary Alberta, it says on my phone 4G connection. I have LTE enabled.

Got my international L29 today. Popped in my Public Mobile (voice) and Tbaytel ( Rogers data) and both showing 4G with full bars. Good bye Mi Mix...you have served me well. I don't see myself ever using the Mate pen so if any fellow Canuck wants it for $60CAD, give me a shout and we can work something out.

M2 802L LTE in USA on Cricket (AT&T)?

Hello fellow members,
I was wondering if anyone could verify this for me.
I see that the 802L possibly might achieve LTE in the US has anyone had any experiences at all?
WillMyPhoneWork.net says that it may work, just looking to see if anyone can confirm.

It does achieve LTE speeds on both USA ATT and Tmobile. You just need to set the APN in the settings. It is just as fast as my Galaxy Note 4 on Tmobile. If anyone is wondering, YES, It works great with voice calls. I love the reaction people give me when I whip out an 8 inch brick and start holding it to my head.

Can you attach a screen shot where it actually say LTE on the top bar please?
Stupid double post
The picture from the seller does not show an earpiece on the top of the screen of the Huawei 802L. Can you provide a picture of your phablet? thanks...
I have the 802l. And have been using in okc metro on tmo for most of 2016. Lte/voice/data works flawlessly and gets same rates as note 3. 8 core cpu so overall experience is great. Speaker outputs on top and bottom sides so when using dialer top side speaker is activated at earpiece rate. Bluetooth or wired headset is strongly advised to cut back on the number of people asking if its really a phone. No band 19 coverage but personal research has lead me to believe this band is negligible. I ordered from eBay seller ~$320 shipped. From Taipei Taiwan to my okc door in less than 24 hours. no joke.

Can you please help me with this?
1. Did you end up buying the standard (2GB) model or the Premium (3GB) one? If it's the premium one, can you point me to the right seller?
2. How do you like the cameras? I have an X2 which has better spec'd cameras
3. How is the battery life? My X2 has a larger battery (5000 mAh) so I'm not sure how this one would fare in comparison.
THANK YOU

I got the 2gb from love.taiwan.
Cameras are average for a mobile imo. I dont do much shooting.
Battery is better than average for a phablet but dont expect same results. I plug in if im gonna watch a video or when I can. I wanted the x2 but went with m2 because of network/band coverage.
CORRECTION* its not b19 coverage issue but another. Make sure you double check band coverage device/service provider. Im lacking coverage on one band but ive never had speed or lte or 3g problems. I use frequencycheck.com

Hi, I'm confused about your last comment.
I did try the 802L on ATT here near Atlanta but did not see LTE working....(??) I'm confused as to what you meant about "another issue." Thanks! (perhaps my APN settings weren't right, but I'm not sure. Frequencycheck.com shows it lacking some support for the right bands.
Thanks!
I personally can confirm the M2-802L works on full LTE with T-Mobile USA.
From what I can tell, the only US LTE bands that work on this phone is B2, and B4.
I've been using the 802l for about a month now on Ting's GSM network. Using Ting's GSM APN settings to the letter I routinely get download speeds faster than on my Mediapad X2 702l on the same network in the same locations. Note that my 802l has never said "LTE" on the top bar; it shows a "4G" icon for speeds above HSPA+. My X2 702l says "H+" (HSPA+) at best, never "4G" (the X2 is known not to get U.S. LTE bands).
Also, voice calls work great on the 802l. When calling without Bluetooth the sound comes out of the top speaker but is loud enough for most conversations.

Band 17 LTE?

From what I can see, the GSM unlocked version doesn't support Band 17. Can anyone confirm?
If you are talking about the US version, the GSM unlocked version of Z (not play) supports LTE band 17. Z Play unlocked version most likely will be the same.
The listing on B&H does have band 2 and 4, but not 17. Might be an issue on AT&T.
If you really need that band, you might look at the Mexican version. It supports: 4G LTE (B1, B2, B3, B4-AWS, B5, B7, B8, B12, B17, B19, B20, B28, B38, B40, B41)
This makes no sense for the unlocked version of the phone to not support AT&T's primary band for LTE. But to sell the identical phone in mexico with that band supported.... Maybe an error on motorolora.com?
I placed an order and then realized at&t might not actually supported. I tried to cancel and they make it impossible to do so. We'll see what happens but I'd be shocked if its not. I only looked because I was curious about band 30.
I have the Moto G4 2016 XT1625 and Motorola website doesn't mention band 17 for this phone either, but according to Signal check lite app it shows I'm connected to B17. So I must be a typo on their part? Let us know when you get your phone if you get B17

1) signalcheck isn't entirely accurate. It uses a database to infer lte band (based on network tower sector ID and other stuff). It doesnt ask the phone modem for the actual info
2) att's 700mhz block b+c spectrum falls under both band 12 and 17 now(12 is a superset of 17). Att broadcasts on both band 12&17 on the network side via mfbi, att will push for band 12 on newer phones instead of 17(17 will be deprecated, but continue to be used network side to support legacy band 17-only phones)
Both Band 17 or 12 phones can connect to this spectrum (aka your g4 2016 works on att's 700mhz). Again, due to (1), signalcheck might have old data saying it's band 17 even though your phone is technically connecting to band 12.
3) moto z play doesn't have 12 or 17... So who knows?
Thank you for the explanation! Well I guess I won't be looking at Moto Z Play then.

Currently I get LTE on my Moto X Pure on AT&T, when my moto z play arrives today (hopefully soon) I will report back. Honestly though I only get 5 mbps on AT&T LTE where i live anyways so HSPA+ probably wont be much different in terms of speed. Data limits and local network server make me want to use wifi anyways.

Interesting... being on band 12 is OK. AT&T uses 17 (B,C) but 12 has A,B and C. I hope the numbers on their website are a mistake. I'm in the process of attempting to procure a mexican model but if this is true I can pick up the one off motorola.com
Just recieved my Moto Z Play (US Version). Put in my AT&T sim and boom I have LTE. I will check what band in a few minutes.

Does your phone still have a whole bunch of different apn settings in the apn menu? If so, I would select the apn setting with nxtgenphone or pta, I had a problem with not getting lte at first when I first got my phone but playing around and rebooting a few times eventually gave me lte.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Global (9.6.7.0) Freedom Mobile LTE?

Hello
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the Global version the Mi Max 3. Did i make a mistake of purchasing a Freedom Mobile LTE incompatible phone? Or it should be asking myself whether this is really the Global Version?
Boot-loader seems locked, box in proper English with UK adapter, that makes me think its the Global version.
When i put my sim card in Data works, SMS works, but no phone calls in or out, even tho in the Network options Freedom is fully detected as the HOME network.
Any ideas?

No, I'm in Brazil and here are other operators. These are the bands that the unit has:
2G bands GSM 850/900/1800/1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
CDMA 800 & TD-SCDMA
3G bands HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100
4G bands - LTE band 1 (2100), 3 (1800), 4 (1700/2100), 5 (850), 7 (2600), 8 (900), 20 (800), 34 (2000), 38 (2600 ), 39 (1900), 40 (2300), 41 (2500)
See if your operator has the machine's bands.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news my friend but yes, you did just buy a phone incompatible with Freedom Mobile as I just did the same lol. Yes, messaging and data does work but you'll never get phone calls to work. I was wondering if it was worth sticking with Freedom anyways because of the deals but in the end I decided to switch over to Fido which works fine with the Mi Max 3. Also the version I have is def the Global Version (9.6.7.0) as I checked on the official website.

Haha yeah closure def makes things easier to handle. Tbh the phone is good enough that if you don't make a lot of phone calls it's still worth it but the problem for me is that in order to unlock your bootloader you need to get permission from Xiaomi. In order to get permission you need to have your device linked with your Mi Account. And in order to to that a confirmation text has to be sent (think Whatsapp). However, even tho you can send a text normally this automatic one fails to send on the Freedom network. So basically if you want to do any rooting whatsoever you'll need a SIM from somewhere like Rogers or Fido which ended up being the deciding factor for me aha.
If you have no plans on rooting then you should be fine :good:
Your phone should connect on LTE band 4 with Freedom Mobile. Mine connects flawlessly on LTE bands 4 and 7 with Telus.

Why speedtest shows LTE instead of 5G

In my city, speedtest shows the network as LTE even when the phone shows 5G. Initially I thought it could be due to speedtest not recognizing the network correctly but today when I traveled to a neighbor city, speedtest recognized the network there as 5G, so it knows the difference. Then why is it still showing my city's network as LTE but not 5G? Any idea?

because some 5g networks are using LTE bands for uploads
so the website is not seeing this as true 5G - maybe in the future when subwave gets more spread
In either case, those aren't even good speeds on an LTE network!
I agree with the previous post - those 5G speeds are much less than what we are getting on LTE in Milwaukee (for the most part anyway) - we don't have 5G yet- and honestly, I am really looking forward to it - but I hope that when it is available, we get better speeds than your 5G Speedtest shows....by the way, what market are you in ? Just curious

That certainly looks better - I don't know what to expect from ATT as far as 5G goes - I have read that it brings speeds of over 1000GBS but I dont know if that is true or not - and I don't know when ATT will make that happen here in Milwaukee - hopefully sometime this year.

Whatever 1000mbps ATT or Verizon is promising is over mmWave which is very limited in range and needs towers for every block to cover the whole city unless you get lucky to have it right on your building but that too only works outdoors mostly. I feel sub 6ghz and 600 mhz 5G would the only feasible ones which may not give the fastest speeds but at least covers more people and provides little better speeds and are easy to deploy.

I will have to take your word for it because I really don't know that much about it. Only what I have heard - and or read - regardless, it was a game changer when LTE first became a reality and I think - even at the speeds you are getting now is the same kind of thing. Can't wait for it be more universally available.
guys, i do not know about the network in the US, but here is Saudi 5G is coverage is very good in the 5 main cities which covers 60-70%+ of the population, on top of that i got lucky that the 5g tower is only 30 meters from my house, i have a 5G router from huawei and im getting 700mbps + most of the time, and that is also the case on my s20+ however something on my s20+ is strange the 5G is not constant it will work for sometime and then it will go back to 4G, and in order to get back on 5G i have to turn on airplain mode and then turn it off then i will get 5G for like 30-60 mins and again the same process,
is there a way to force it to stay on 5G all the time ?
I tried speedtest with wifi on and actually got less speed than with LTE. I'll try it again when I get into a 5g area in the St. Louis metropolitan area
Assuming you have AT&T ? They are calling LTE+, 5G or 5Ge just like T Mobile mistakenly called HSPA+, 4G years ago when true 4G was supposed to be LTE bands only...
So you are probably picking up 5Ge signal per your carrier but the Speed Test App knows that it is just LTE Enhanced
I also saw another reply about using LTE for upload and a 5G signal for download which is also possible

T-Mobile is also calling its 600 MHz, Band 71 ..5G but it is not the true 5G Speeds yet, has short range as it needs thousands more towers built out...so it peaks around 225 Mbps and you only get that if you are hugging a tower

trt *#0011# and check if your phone is really on 5G
sometimes your phone is disconnected from 5G to LTE, but it still keep showing 5G on your phone

Question No UK 5G or Rather The Lack Of Indication?

Out and about today and never saw 5G indicated once on my 6 Pro (BT Mobile) the speed tests i did seemed to indicate i was actualy using 5G but the indicator never flickered off 4G. Dunno whether it is a bug with the phone, the SIM card or the network.
Anyone else in the UK seeing a similar thing?
It possibly is quite temperamental....
I'm on EE UK and had 5G when first using the phone in my bedroom. Then, perhaps only coincidentally, when my O2 number was transferred over, I was only getting 4G from then. Was only getting 4G too outside and then randomly 5G, even though I live in a good area.
I wasn't receiving a verification text from the Voi Scooter app, so tried putting my EE sim back in my old phone, which didn't help the text, but was getting strong 5G on the old phone in my room...! I reset network settings on my Pixel and then now I'm getting 5G again,, but I'm unsure if anything I'm doing is actually helping or that just perhaps signal is a little weird?!
Ive not even seen the 5G indicator at all, earlier i did a speed test on a Pixel 6 showing 5G and and a speed test on my 6 Pro showing 4G and they both got the same result.
I tried resetting the Network Settings and it did bugger all for me sadly.
I've not had 5G appear on mine and I was in City Centre before (Manchester) where its all over
there is no 5g indicator nor is there a VOLTE indicator

I definitely see it indicated when I'm out of the house. Not sure why you're not seeing it.
Apparently, according to ads, I'm using UK's fastest 5G network in 3 mobile, but it probably is also the smallest because I went to central London today and was checking the phone every 2 minutes, never shown 5G in a status bar.
On the other hand I can confirm, that at least in 3 mobile I can make my phone use either 3, 4 or 5 G (I think someone mentioned that it wasn't possible in EE.
I'm with 3 in the UK and my P6P regularly shows 5g obviously when in a 5g area.

Same, I see the 5g regularly when I am around my area. Look at my speedtest results they say LTE but i know I have seen 5G regularly.
After a few calls to BT yesterday and being told not us Guv honest 5G started to be indicated, odd that.
Something strange appears to be going on with EE. My 1p mobile SIM showed 5G originally, but now I get DCNR restricted = True so it will not work.

I don't think EE give 5G with pay-as-you go SIMS, so that might be all by design.

EE don't, but 1pmobile, running on EE do support it.
This is the same SIM in my Mi11Ultra:
Hi guys,
Another UK user, not got the Pixel yet. Even though you aren't getting 5g indicator are you actually getting the speeds?
3, Salford Quays on Friday. Definitely 5G and it shows it. Not sure what's going on with you guys' phones, maybe you need a config update from the network?
