SD card compatibility - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Can anyone tell me which SD cards are compatible with the Xiaomi Mi A2 lite. I bought a samsung one which said it was compatible and then wouldn't work. I don't want to repeat that mistake.

Use any type class 10 memory card.

Use as portable storage and nearly every SD card should work. Don't use adoptable storage!

Do you have a V500 or V510? I have a Sandisk SDHC Class 10 32gb card on my V500 and it works fine...
I would try to format it to fat32. Also, what are you using it for? If you want to move apk's, you will have to use something like link2sd. If it is just for media, no worries.
Thanks for reply?

This isn't normal. I would first try a different player. If it's not the player, then I would suspect a corrupted SD card. Have you used the sdcard on another device? I mean, a current device. Doubtful it is the tablet, but you never know.

[Q] SD Card Issues ?

Okay, yes there are a billion posts on this forum about SD Card issues.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. I've tried every single SD Card that I own in it. It refuses to recognize any of them.
I know that if I root it and go with a custom rom that this issue is fixed.
I don't want to do that. Is there a way to solve these problems without rooting my device?
Are you talking about the way KitKat handles SD cards differently? If so, that should have no bearing on whether the device "recognizes" the SD cards or not; its just how apps are permissioned to write to the SD: http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes
Nor should you have to root and/or use a custom ROM in order to simply use the SD cards.
Can't speak to the Tab Pro 10.1 specifically. But on my Tab Pro 8.4, I've tried 2 different SD cards, and both worked just fine with the 8.4 able to read the existing media files on them.
Have you tried formatting the cards to FAT32? How many cards exactly have you tried? Saying you "tried very SD card you own" doesn't tell us anything. For all we know, you own one. Of course, presumably its more than one. But please give some actual quantities. And I assume they are confirmed to work on other devices, but again you haven't stated that information.

Hi
did you find any solution to your problem of sdcard not recognized?
I just bought an SM-T520 tablet(tab pro 10.1) today, and I tried 4 sdcards (sdhc) that work fine on my phone, but none is recognized.
Thanks

I finally managed to fix the issue, i had to format the card in ntfs format and it was suddenly recognized by the tablet!
How do I?

How do I format an sd card like you did? I'm having the same issue when I put in sd cards in my galaxy pro tablet as well.

I had the same issue with my Tab pro 10.1 for quite some time. Tried everything, from formatting with different fs to replacing the sd card.
Then, I opened the back cover from the tablet and it appeared that the flat ribbon cable of the sd card reader was not properly fit. I just pressed it back into, and now the tablet reads and writes the sd card again. Hope this help someone.

A friend has problems with a SanDisk Ultra 200GB on Galaxy S 4 Mini with stock ROM.. The micro SD card is not recognized. Is that perhaps a formatting issue? Are your cards formatted as FAT32 or exFAT?

exFAT. Recently I have also used a 256 GB Samsung card without issue (filled more than 50% with data). I have been using CyanogenMod and Lineage ROM for a long time now so I am not sure if Stock ROM could be an issue.

Not possible on any S4 Mini because the maximum allowed size is 64 GB.

That seems to answer one question it is not the hardware that is the limitation but rather the version of Android software running in Galaxy S4 phone. I could not get Samsung to answer this question directly. Samsung official position is 64GB is the maximum.
I am going to test 128GB micro SD in S4 standard ROM (AOS 5.0.1) try and fill it with test data and see what happens. From your comment it looks like it would be best for me to follow your example and install CyanogenMod or Lineage custom ROM to use a 128GB micro SD in the S4 (that will be my next test).
It is hard to know if I am dependant on any Samsung features as some are not obvious if all you have ever used is Samsung Android. I moved to Quickpic app for local photo management but have read Samsung apps are better for picture taking do you know anything about that?
Can you install apps to load from micro SD card using exFat on CyanogenMod or Lineage ROM in Galaxy S4?
Are there any features you "lost" moving to 3rd party ROM on the Galaxy phone that you really missed?
I have used larger than 64 GB micro SD without issues even with stock Android 4.2 on the S4 Mini. My feeling is that the 64 GB limit is somehow arbitrary and originates from the time where nothing bigger than 64 GB was available. The theoretical limit should be 2 TB.
I have been using Samsung Apps as well as Quickpic and both are alright, maybe depending on personal priorities. Quickpic though is only for organizing pictures, not shooting them AFAIK.

Yes, but the amount of internal memory you are saving is only very small as a lot of data will still be saved in internal. You could use the SD card als adopted storage though, meaning you will have huge internal memory then. The downsides are that the memory becomes much slower than before and you cannot take out the SD card anymore.

No.
For testing I tried to insert a 128GB uSD and my S4 mini VE (GT-i9195i) sees it perfectly. Both by checking the memory setting menu inside the phone and on the PC by connecting it to USB.
microSD - Samsung EVO (Yellow) 128GB [100MB read - 100MB write].
GT-i9195i VE - Android Kit Kat 4.4.4, TWRP 3.3.1-0, SuperSU Pro V2.82
With Lineage 18.1 or later I can confirm 512GB microSD works without problems.

Asking for help with a micro sdxc 128gb problem

Hello this is the first time I'm posting here
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any answer other than "xiaomi didn't fix it"
I bought a sandisk 128gb microsdxc after double checking that it could handle this amount (It's listed a having a max of 256gb) I tried it on my pc and it was golden until I tried to use it on my phone, it shows up and says it is a 128gb sd and lets me use it as a internal or external memory but that's about it, it can't read or write on it and my pc can't detect it when it is on my phone
I also noticed that it doesn't let me take screenshots without my other 16gb sdcard, it says there's not enough space for it even though I've just used 18gb and clearly have enough space
I'm curious if there's a fix like changing to a custom rom, flashing certain file or something like that
Thank you!
Edit: If I use it as external it lets me write and read but it doesn't work as I want it to, also if it's as external it doesn't let me take screenshots as I stated above
I advise trying other brands than Sandisk, if problems persists. There are some problems when using Sandisk SD Cards like sudden read-only SD card. I've tested other cards (Eaget, G.Skill, Gigastone, Samsung, Transcend) and they were better to me.
Also, SD cards should formatted to FAT32 if using it with this device, as Xiaomi did not implement exFAT support for this device. You can search how to format huge cards to FAT32 on Google.
Also, check if your card is genuine. If your card has huge CE stencil on the back, it is fake. Sandisk shouldn't have that mark; it should have serial number and Made In China/Taiwan on it.

I formatted it to fat32 and still no luck, it works with any device except my xiaomi so that's weird, I checked the back and it's genuine btw, I guess I'll just use it on my camera or as a usb, thank you anyways
Sorry bro but Xiaomi didn't fix it lol. I've had this issue constantly on Pie, but it worked OK in Oreo, maybe you downgrade or try another ROM?
same 4 me

Yeah, I agree. I have 2 MicroSD cards that being destroyed by Xiaomi stock ROM simply by self-ejecting itself numerous times, and also it lagged a lot because it always check for 'corruption' where their firmware causes it.
The simple solution that I took is to get a custom ROM and kernel installed on my device and since then, these MicroSD card problems were gone; hell even better that custom ROM / kernel can handle exFAT than that of Xiaomi AndroidOne.
