LEAGOO V1 Comes with Good Specs and Different Design
Maybe the LEAGOO T1 gained most of the media attention lately, but the company has already a new device ready for release, the LEAGOO V1, a device that differentiates from most current smartphones in terms of design.
LEAGOO markets the device as both a luxurious as well as a secure device. The security comes from two directions. The first is the fingerprint sensor that comes on almost low-to-mid devices and ensures that the device gets unlocked only by the fingers of the user. The second is its OS, called Sec OS (from Security) and is based on Android. No further details are known about it.
But what about luxury? To achieve a certain level of luxury, the company has decided to use real calfskin to dress the exterior of the device. Unlike other devices that had pseudo-leather back covers, the LEAGOO V1 is a combination of metal and leather.
On the hardware side, its main specs are:

Maybe the Leagoo T1 gained the most attention of the media lately, but the company has already a new device ready for release, the Leagoo V1 (or Venture 1), a device that differentiates from most current smartphones in terms of design.
From now to 18th October there will be a presale of the LEAGOO Venture 1 on AliExpress, with a nice discount.
Leagoo markets the device as both a luxurious as well as a secure device. To achieve a certain level of luxury, the company has decided to use handcrafted first-class calfskin to dress the exterior of the device.
And the security comes from two directions. The first is the fingerprint sensor that comes on almost low-to-mid devices and ensures that the device gets unlocked only by the fingers of the user. The second is its OS, called Sec OS (from Security) and is based on Android 5.1 (or maybe 6.0?, i'll ask a confirm for this)

Vertu is the company that does not need a further introduction when it comes to luxury devices. But recently LEAGOO Venture 1 also catches lots of attentionsdue to its similar luxury leather materials and design. Leagoo Venture 1 is here to challenge Vertu Aster T.
Why they are similar?
Both of them are used handcrafted first-class calfskin to dress the exterior of the device. Both of them can support the latest and faster 4G network. Both of them can be customized by customers’ need and can been crafted as an exquisite expression of refinded aesthetic. But depending on the different material, Vertu Aster T price will*also be different.
As for the specifications, Vertu Aster T is featured with 4.7 inches screen with a*resolution of 1080 × 1920 , 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 13MP*rear camera with LED flash, 2.1MP front camera and it will be running Android 5.1.
Leagoo Venture 1 features a 5.0-inch 720p display and is powered by a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. It also packs 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and 128GB maximum memory expansion. It adopts rear 13MP Sony camera with true-tone flash and an F/2.0 aperture. 8MP front camera with 84° wide angle adds more interest. The fingerprint sensor has become almost essential on today’s smartphones. Leagoo Venture 1 adopts it but Vertu Aster T does not. LQC v1.5 fast charging technology is used to charge the large 3000mAh battery on Venture 1, for a faster, safer and cooler charging. But Vertu Aster T is just only 2275mAh. Both of them are based on Android 5.1.
Besides, Venture 1 adopts Dual Secure OS to protect its security. It is possible to switch from the personal OS to business OS freely. Using hardware encryption, two separated OS should be able to work perfectly with no chance of info-leaking. All files are sealed in a private storage space and to ensure the safety of all files, the Venture 1 monitors every access, showing all history record of unlocking th Deata protection. In addition, by setting password, all Apps in the device can be locked and no one can get in without a password. (unless you manage to hack it).​

I bought one!
Just to say that I've bought one of these Leagoo Venture 1 (V1) 'phones (16Gb, in the Amber Brown if you're interested...). I found information about them hard to come by so I thought I'd post a few thoughts a few days into ownership. If you have any questions, I'm not the person to ask as I don't visit XDA very often.
So, I took the plunge. I happened to be browsing AliExpress, looking for another item, when I spotted an advert for this 'phone. I was intrigued with the looks, that combination of leather and metal is hard to ignore. I clicked on the ad. and thought how striking looking the 'phone was, I also was rather taken by the looks of the launcher, with it's almost entirely black and white theme, I liked the simplicity.
Then, the price caught my eye. Just over one hundred pounds. At that price, I could almost afford to throw it away I reckoned. A few seconds later it was ordered. Delivery for me took eleven days although it was estimated at up to fifty days. Perhaps I was lucky in delivery? Other orders from AliExpress have taken sixty days, so maybe I was just lucky?
And what of the 'phone itself? It came in a reasonable quality cardboard box with a sleeve cut into a 'V' shape to highlight the 'Venture' brand on the front. Inside there was a SIM tray removal tool, charger with European pins and 100V - 240V capability, a micro-USB cable, headphones and quick-start guide. The 'phone had a screen protector fitted but this picked up so much grease and fingerprints I took it off after a day.
In use the screen is very clear, very bright and very sharp. As the resolution is only 1280x720 I wasn't expecting something this good. I've found no dead pixels so far either. The 'phone is very quick and responsive in general use, web sites load much much quicker than my previous Oppo R5 or Huawei P6 and I've noticed no slowdowns in use, nor any issues with excessive heating - again, both the Huawei and Oppo could get rather warm in use. The fingerprint scanner does take some time from putting the finger on the scanner to unlock the 'phone, though I suspect that the scanner works quickly, and the delay is in the unlocking as once or twice I've tapped my finger on quickly then removed it yet the 'phone has still unlocked with my finger off the scanner. The rear camera resolution seems average, it is claimed to be 13MP, pictures taken are ~4Mb in size and do look rather heavily compressed, the P6 and R5 possibly were both better in this respect. I don't suppose the camera is any worse than any other similarly priced 'phone though. For a while I had a Huawei P9 (Leica dual lens) and BlackBerry Priv, both had better cameras, I liked the BlackBerry Priv the most of all my 'phones for camera quality. I have an excellent Pentax camera for taking pictures with, I only use my 'phone if I've forgotten the Pentax or my reserve Ricoh cameras. If you use your 'phone for photography, perhaps consider something else? If I could add one thing, it would be NFC. I had a couple of 'phones for a short period which both had NFC and I really liked using 'Tap n Pay' so I would have liked to see this but it seems as though a minority of China made 'phones offer NFC as it reportedly isn't widely used in native China.
In the physical metal, glass and leather the 'phone looks very well made. It is rather heavy but this weight seems uniformly distributed and it feels 'right'. The metal on the sides has a quality finish to it and again, feels lovely. The metal surrounding the fingerprint scanner and camera lens looks to my eye to be cast aluminium and slightly lower quality but still very good. I can't say whether the leather is indeed calfskin as Leagoo claim, but it does look good. You probably could get some jealous looks from other people who might assume it is a Vertu (assuming they know what a Vertu looks like) as the two do look similar.
The 'phone has dual SIM capability, I haven't tried this only having one SIM and a microSD card in the 'SIM2' slot. It certainly works on the Virgin network in the UK (EE), again, I only have a standard 3G data plan so can't vouch for 4G capabilities.
Battery life so far has been excellent. Having used it more than I would during any normal day while setting it up, restoring apps, text messages, adding widgets and the like, I've still had around 70% battery by bedtime. In comparison, the P6 would be flat, with less use, in about eight hours. I could eke the R5 to about thirty six hours with very light use. If I remember, after my first week is over, I'll update this thread to give a more thorough report on the battery life. [Update] I've now had the 'phone for around four weeks and I'm getting very good battery life. I'm only having to charge the 'phone after three days of use. I recently had a BlackBerry Priv and before that, a Huawei P9 (not the P9 Lite), both of those managed from 8am on day one to 10pm day two before needing a charge. The V1 can easily go from 8am on day one to 10pm day three before needing a charge, if I stretch it, I can just squeeze 10pm on day four. This is without needing to select the low power battery saving mode. I am a light user, but I'm not using this any more or less than the previous 'phones yet still getting great battery life.
[Update] The stock launcher is a little unusual (even for a Chinese 'phone) in that widgets can't be resized from their original dimensions. Usually long pressing on a Widget brings up some resize arrows that can be used to stretch widgets into custom sizes, the Venture 1 launcher doesn't seem to have that option at all (or at least I haven't found it if it exists). Similar to other Chinese 'phones, there is no App drawer. All the Apps are located on the home screens. There seems to be no way of selecting which screen is designated as 'Home', the first screen is seemingly fixed as the 'Home' one. I have also found a few other 'inconsistencies' in some of the Apps. Leagoo include their own App store which appears to be a close clone of the native Android Play Store, but with the addition of being able to indicate the version number of an App along with an option to not update that App, or to skip an update. I haven't used the App myself other than to see what it was and if it differed from the Play Store, so I might have misinterpreted the way it works a little. The Leagoo Email App again appears to be a clone of an earlier version of the Android Gmail App. It has a black theme which better fits the overall theme of the 'phone so I use it in preference to the Gmail App. It requires all senders to be individually given the right to display pictures which I'm sure an earlier version of the Gmail App did. It is seemingly classed by Google as an 'insecure' Application so isn't allowed to access a Gmail account unless permission for insecure Apps is granted. This initially makes it appear as though the Email App isn't working. When it is setup with your user name and password, it reports that it can't connect and your username or password are incorrect. This had me confused for some time, when I logged onto my Gmail account on my iMac I could then see the warnings about an insecure app trying to access the account. Once permission was granted on the iMac, the Leagoo Email App worked as expected. The Leagoo Messages App has one other 'gotcha' which I'll pass on. If you are trying to save an attachment, long press on the attachment, select save from the menu and you are sent to a screen with a thumbnail of the attachment with what looks like a back arrow, a tickbox by the attachment, and nothing else. Going back doesn't save, long pressing the thumbnail doesn't save. Hmmm... Looking really closely on the top right of the screen reveals two OK and Cancel options - written in black text, over a black (leather texture) background. Clicking the OK option saves the attachment. Aha! Three days on and off it took me to realise that!
In summary, I love it, at the price there can't be many other 'phones that look anything like it, the fact that it performs far better than I expected is the icing on the cake. I couldn't give it a higher recommendation.

Review (part 1)
Introduction
This is the LEAGOO Venture 1.
Hardware
This device is still powered by the pretty old, but rocking stable, Mediatek MT6753 SOC clocked at 1.3GHz, but thanks to the HD-only screen, there are no performance issues at all. It features 3GB of RAM, 32GB of ROM and a 8MP Rear Camera, unfortunately interpolated to 13MP.
Unboxing
Packaging comes with many accessories, just like all LEAGOO devices: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/1.5A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x SIM Card Tray Eject Tool, 1x 3.5mm In-Ear Earphones (...cheap...) and the Smartphone (of course). A plastic screen protector (high-quality) is already applied and no TPU Cover is included.
Following Vertu's Design, this Venture 1 has a Leather Back Cover that looks amazing, together with a Full-Metal Chassis and Glossy Borders. In my opinion, the design is great, just like its build quality. This is probably the best built LEAGOO Smartphone after the T1 Plus.
It is 14.84x7.17x1.15cm, bigger than most 5 inches devices but it doesn't matter with this type of device. It weights 209g, considering the amount of Metal and the Leather Cover, it couldn't have been better.
On the front side there is the Standard (no 2.5D) Display and the upper front side of the device features the standard set of things: a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. Is the Notification LED here? Yes, it is. (RGB)
The notification LED isn't the brightest you can find on a smartphone, and unfortunately, it isn't customizable. At least it is here though, still better than nothing.
On the lower front side there is the Soft-Touch Keys zone with Menu, Home and Back buttons, together with the Microphone in the Center.
On the back side there is the Leather Cover (non-removable).
The upper rear side of the device features the Camera Sensor, a Secondary Microphone for Noise Suppression, an Unknown Hole that i don't know what it is used for, a compact rounded Fingerprint Scanner and the Dual-LED - Dual-Tone Flashlight.
On the lower rear side there is just the LEAGOO logo, the Speaker is positioned on the left side of the device.
Device
Screen
LEAGOO choose to use an HD-only screen for this device, and considering the CPU, this is the best choice, but is it a good panel too? So and so. Color Accuracy and White Balance is OK, nothing to complain about, but there is a slight banding issue (visible in the Viewing Angles test).
Light Sensor supports partial light changes, this is its maximum brightness.
Viewing Angles are as good as you would expect from an IPS screen. Notice the Banding Issue i mentioned before.
Camera
Just like the T1 Plus, also this one features a Sony IMX219 Camera Sensor for the Rear Camera that is an 8MP Sensor, advertised as 13MP due to interpolation, and the result is as good as you would expect from an 8MP Camera, but with an issue.
Photos Quality is OK, especially while focusing near objects or for Macros with a great image details and low level of noise, but there are issues with the Auto-Focus, because i wasn't able to take a properly focuses shot for Panorama or any long-distance type of Photo. Somehow, this issue isn't here if you enable HDR mode so...this is funny.
"HDR off" on the left and "HDR on" on the right. HDR processing seems to work just fine.
Photos taken on medium light conditions are decent.
Macro Photos, as already said, are great.
As regards the Flashlight, it is sufficiently powerful to take some nice shots indoors, but not enough for outdoor shots.
As regards Video Recording, somehow LEAGOO capped the maximum resolution to 720p30 (why?). Anyway, the quality is decent and the frame-rate is stable enough.
Front Camera is a Standard Wide-Angle variant GalaxyCore GC5005 (5MP), something you will find on almost all Chinese Devices with this price target.
Audio
Speaker's Quality on this device is lower than average (no low-frequencies, low-medium volume), but i think this is due to the fact that the device is Waterproof so there may be an Water Filter that might be reducing the quality.
As regards the Microphone, the quality is great, but it couldn't have been worse thanks to the Dual-Microphone Configuration. In-Call quality is average, nohing to complain about.
GPS
Just like all MT6753 devices, the GPS is good with almost instant satellites lock and decent signal.

Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
LEAGOO provides full european bands support (and also American, if you buy the "Version A" variant), with 4G Band 20.
3G Signal Reception is accurate too, actually I never managed to get connected to the 2G Network of my Mobile Operator because there was always some 3G Signal available. (luckily there are no coverage issues here)
4G Network Speed is low, lower than other devices i have reviewed in the past, meaning that there is a Software Issue somewhere in the Mobile Data management. I hope that this gets fixed with the next OTA update.
Somehow WiFi 5GHz is not supported here. Connected at 65MBps to my 2.4GHz network, i managed to obtain a maximum of 36mbps, with medium-high signal.
Battery Life
I have measured the real battery capacity using my USB Tester, and it seems that the real battery capacity is just slightly compared to what LEAGOO declares. (declared 3000mAh, real ~2930mAh).
This is the PCMark Battery Test. Minimum Brightness, WiFi On, Sync On, Airplane Mode Off. Considering the Battery Capacity, this is a great result.
As regards battery charging times, the 5V/1.5A charger is good enough to charge the battery in almost 2 hours.
Software
Just like all LEAGOO devices, this one doesn't have a Clean Android OS with AOSP-like GUI, unfortunately, but they choose to personalize the old Android 5.1 release, naming it SecOS. (i guess secure os)
What to say, the OS is smooth, but it feels a bit unpolished. Check some pictures attached below.
Just like other last-gen Mediatek Devices, there are some typical features such as Gestures, Scheduled Power On/Off, etc…
Luckily LEAGOO choose to include a Magnetometer/Compass here.
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware analysis seems to detect some malwares on this device, two of them can be removed (disabling the app), but one is built-in (SystemUI)
The Fingerprint Scanner isn't one of the best i have ever reviewed, but it is still usable and accurate enough. Being an Android 5.1 device, the implementation isn't native so this is a limitation.

Review (part 2)
Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – GPU Performance is mediocre, something expected when this MT6753 is stressed to the max.
AndroBench – eMMC Performance is superb, comparable with high-end devices.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – 3D performance is acceptable considering the GPU.
GeekBench – CPU Performance is nearly as good as other CPUs with the same configuration (8x Cortex-A53), multi-core score is impressive though.

GFXBench – Well OpenGL 3.0 benchmarks are pretty intensive, and this is where an outdated GPU lacks power.
PCMark – Common MT6753 Performance here, not the worst neither the greatest.

Vellamo – Just like previous tests, there are no gains compared to other MT6753 devices.
Conclusions
Summarizing all results, it is clear that this device isn't perfect, there are some minor issues here and there that can be fixed via an OTA Update. I consider this as a cheap reply to Vertu's Expensive devices.
This device has some great potential that can be easily unlocked. I know, it is still powered by the old Android 5.1, together with the old MT6753 chipset, but if you are not looking for the latest technology in your hands, and if LEAGOO fixes some issues (including the removal of Malware!), it might be one of the best choices for those who are in search for elegant and business-like devices, at a reasonable cost.
In the current state, i can't recommend it, unless you really like it.

Any update as regards my question concerning marshmallow upgrade for the V1?

OR would it be possible to flash in a 6.0 ROM and keep the stock Dual Sec Os 1.0 launcher?

I just wanted to add an update to my comments on the Leagoo Venture 1.
I bought mine in February, at the start of June, I started getting pop up adverts appearing in my notification area. All the ads I saw were for Uber, every one. I tried to get rid of them but couldn't, they'd almost instantly reappear again. If I opened the 'recent apps' area, it would close again by itself, and if I tried to rearrange apps in the app drawer, any apps I was dragging and dropping would be dropped in odd places as the screen redrew itself every few seconds.
It took me some time to find out what was going on so I thought I'd mention it here so that should anyone else suffer the same fate they wouldn't struggle as I did.
I looked in: System > Device > Apps > All
I found I had two copies of 'Shell', one was ~750kb in size, one was ~30Mb in size. Selecting the ~30Mb one, I force closed it and then uninstalled it. This stopped the popup adverts. I then installed "No Root Firewall" and set it to run at boot. Watching the apps that then attempted to access the network, I only enabled access for essential services, I prevented the app called "Software Update" which claims to be written by com.rock.gota from accessing the network/internet at all and if I see it running, I close it. I can't disable or delete it as I haven't rooted my Leagoo.
Since doing this I've had no further problems. It could have been another app causing the popups, if they return, I'll update this post.

Hello there ,, i know this a very old thread but i have one Leago v1 and i want to ask you what are the proper steps to flash this rom.
I just flashed and the phone its not starting at all .... black screen. I am now on the official rom and the adverts issue its there.
propably i have to unlock boot loader ....
So if you please guide me step by step ...

OUKITEL is starting to work on a new smartphone named U20 Plus with dual camera design on back cover.
This is not the first device that designs two camera lens on the back. Other brands like Huawei, LG, HTC, Apple, Xiaomi already released some smartphones with dual rear cameras. OUKITEL is also joining this field to build dual rear cameras smartphones, but with most cost-effective price.
The model is named as U20 Plus, it will pack dual lens on the back, the main rear camera is powered by a 13.0MP (interpolated to 16MP) Sony IMX135 sensor. Combining superior hardware and optimized software with dual lenses, the U20 Plus will offer DSLR experience with more light and better clarity.
U20 Plus also offers the latest fingerprint sensor. Except for improving the unlock speed, OUKITEL will also pre-install more functionalities for fingerprint. It will divide long press fingerprint function and single tap fingerprint function.
A good camera ensures great photo and video quality, it would be more exciting if the display can show it in a perfect way. For showing the best effect, U20 Plus will get a 5.5 inch FHD display with 1080p resolution and adopting original SHARP glass for screen.
U20 Plus is planned to go to market at end of this month, and will be officially on www.oukitel.com next week.[/url]​

Last week OUKITEL stated that they are releasing a new smartphone named U20 Plus with dual rear camera. Here comes more information about this new promising smartphone.
The most important feature of this device is the camera. It will pack dual-lens on the back with the main camera processing imaging and the secondary camera recording the image data, providing SLR shooting experience. The most obvious photo effect is that it will highlight the theme and blur background.
The main rear camera is adopting an original Sony IMX135 sensor. Originally it was planned to do 13MP mega pixels and interpolated to 16MP in software, but according to research among consumers, it's better to not use interpolation (finally). So this time U20 Plus will feature real 13MP Sony IMX135 camera and 5MP front camera, no interpolation.
Big battery is surely important for batter enjoy the device. U20 Plus will get 3300mAh big battery from SCUD with intelligent power consumption management.
According to OUKITEL sales team, U20 Plus will be the most cost-effective dual-lens smartphone. Presale is starts from this week.

How to distinguish a real dual-lens camera and a fake dual-lens camera
Recently many brands like Huawei, LG, HTC, Apple, Xiaomi and others already released several smartphones with dual rear cameras. Other manufacturers are also following their steps to produce dual-lens cameras. The produced photo effect is surely great if you use a dual-lens camera because it can reach the levels of a SLR camera.
When we choose it, we need to be sure that it's a real one. But how do we distinguish it then? Here is the way.
Working principle: main camera processes the image, the secondary camera handles the image data. Frankly speaking, the main camera is for taking photos and secondary camera is for handling the photo effects like blur background, deduce noise, etc...
Difference between a real dual-lens camera and fake dual-lens:
a. Among Mediatek chipsets, only chipsets above MT6737T can support two cameras working at same time, so if the device has an MT6737 (not T) processor, then it can't support it.
b. The fastest way to judge: cover the secondary camera, the blur effect will disappear for a real dual-lens camera.
c. The dual lens will both open when working

Someone say that the U20 Plus design looks like iPhone 7 plus, but if you see it clearly, you will find that they are different.
See the first video about the appearance design of U20 Plus below. At first sight, it indeed has the iPhone style because both of them design the dual-lens camera on the top left and both of them getting rounded back cover.
U20 Plus gets 3 colors: grey, champagne gold, rose gold. According to OUKITEL product team, they will most probably make a Jet Black color that is the same as the iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black. But, it will come later compared to the first 3 colors.

U20 Plus gets a 3300mAh big battery, but it is only 8.4mm for the body. Though the back cover is not metal, polycarbonated instead, the back cover should give you a wonderful hand feel.

OUKITEL said that the final software is confirmed and real photos taken by the U20 Plus are now available.
In the video, they took photos in outside, in a room and during the night. They also compared the photos taken in normal photo mode and SLR mode. At the end, they took a short video of an aquarium. YouTube Default Compression has been used so it might be a bit better in real-life.
As already said many times, the U20 Plus has a dual-lens rear camera, with a 13MP Sony IMX135 primary sensor while the secondary rear camera is only 0.3MP, required to adjust the SLR effect. It also features a 5.5 inches FHD display from SHARP.
OUKITEL said that the U20 Plus is on mass-production starting from this week, if there is no issues, next week they will start normal shipments. Consumers who already pre-ordered will get it soon. Also, the Pre-Sale flash sale is still running in some stores, but in limited quantity.​

OUKITEL has reworked the design of the U20 Plus smartphone, planning to add the popular Jet Black color version, which is the biggest change and totally different exterior color from all the old models.
Jet black back cover is glossy. The glossy surface is achieved by running the device through a complicated process required to achieve the stunning perfect glossy appearance and to produce a mirror-like effect. As far as we know, all the specs and features are the same with the other 3 colors variants.
The Jet Black color will go on pre-sale online by the end of this month. According to latest news from the OUKITEL's factory, they have already started producing champagne gold version on the 7th of December. Regarding the date for the other 2 colors, we will update it soon.

Introduction
This is the OUKITEL U20 Plus.
Hardware
This device is powered by a Mediatek MT6737T SOC clocked at 1.44GHz, the Full-HD capable variant of the MT6737 (standard variant supports maximum HD), together with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM. Unlike any other previous OUKITEL device, this features a Dual-Camera configuration, made of a 13MP rear main camera and 0.3MP rear secondary camera. Nothing special for the front camera, just a classic 5MP camera.
Unboxing
Packaging comes with some accessories: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/1A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x Warranty Certificate, 1x TPU Cover and the Smartphone (of course). A screen protector is already applied (mine was scratched so you won't see it here).
This is the second device i review from OUKITEL using an Unibody Plastic Chassis and it feels pretty solid (not superb, it is still plastic), much better compared to the U7 Plus (same type of chassis). Something i do not like at all is the position of Volume/Power Keys, they are on the left side of the device.
It is 15.39x7.75x0.85cm, as big as the U7 Plus, with medium bezels. As regards its weight, well it is heavy considering the type of chassis. 193g are a bit too much.
On the front side there is the usual 2.5D Curved Display and the upper front side of the device features a Front-Facing Camera, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A Notification LED is here, but it only supports one color: green.
On the lower front side there is the Touch Keys area, with Menu, Home and Back touch buttons.
On the back side there is the unibody chassis, just like the U7 Plus.
The upper rear side of the device features the Dual-Camera Sensors supported by a single rounded Flashlight, and the compact, rounded, Fingerprint Scanner.
On the lower rear side there is just the OUKITEL logo because the Speaker is placed near the Micro-USB port.
Device
Screen
The screen is great, probably the best Full HD screen i have ever tried on a OUKITEL device. Color Temperature is slightly high, but not too much, and everything else is just fine.
Light Sensor supports smooth light changes, this is its maximum brightness. Ok, this isn't the brightest screen you can find on a device, but it is bright enough for any kind of usage.
Viewing Angles are good, just like on all IPS screens, nothing to complain here.
Camera
First of all i am not a professional photographer so my photos might look a bit messy, i do not know how to handle this Dual Camera system properly.
Photos taken using the standard photo mode are good, the usual noise level is here, but every single photos looks pretty detailed. The old Sony IMX135 (13MP) sensor still works great.

Here you can see some photos taken using the SLR feature, "Standard" on the left and "SLR" on the right.
Flashlight is powerful enough, but sometimes it seems to be a bit too warm making photos look a bit yellow, just like my glove here.
Macro Photos look great, detailed and with vibrant colors.
As regards Video Recording, the camera is able to record 1080p Videos at 30FPS, and the quality is decent. Check my sample here.
Front Camera is not great, but neither too bad (GalaxyCore GC5005). Sufficient for Video Chats. It seems to be a Wide-Angle variant though. Here you can see a cat-selfie.
Audio
Starting from the Speaker, its volume isn't super-high and lacks low frequencies. Unfortunately this is something common with OUKITEL devices. (except the C3 and C4)
As regards the Microphone, it works great in any case (in-call, VOIP, etc...), and the earpiece is loud and clear.
GPS
The GPS on this device confuses me. Ok, it was cloudy when i have tested it (check this photo) but it is weird to see that outdoors is able to lock many satellites (just like all OUKITEL devices), while indoors it isn't able to see any. I don't know how to evaluate this result.

Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Thanks to the 4G Band 20 support (some other Chinese Smartphones don’t have it), I’m almost always and everywhere connected to the 4G Network of my Mobile Network Provider (TIM Italy).
4G Network Speed is sufficient, it highly depends on your Mobile Operator and mine isn’t pretty good.
WiFi 5GHz is supported here, and its speed mediocre. Something that impressed me is the ping, lower than my Desktop PC.
Battery Life
I have measured the real battery capacity using my USB Tester, and it seems that the real battery capacity is a bit higher than the declared one. (declared 3300mAh, real ~3350mAh).
This is the Geekbench Battery Test, somehow the battery runtime is low, definitely not acceptable for a 3300mAh battery. I assume this is a software issue, so i hope to see some improvements with an OTA Update.

As regards battery charging times, the 5V/1A charger is pretty slow to charge this big battery, almost 3 hours. I don't know why, but OUKITEL doesn't seem to like fast chargers.
Software
Just like almost all OUKITEL devices, also this one uses a clean Android 6.0 OS with some minor customizations. I know, it doesn't have Nougat, but OUKITEL has already planned the update so don't worry about it. Anyway, it runs smoother than other 2GB RAM devices i have tested, this MT6737T CPU is great.
MiraVision is here, together with other Mediatek Features such as Smart Gestures (double tap-to-wake, etc...)
There is no Gyroscope or Magnetometer even though the software doesn't think so.
As regards the Fingerprint Scanner management, it is pretty easy to configure, pretty fast unlock times with almost no issues with its accuracy.
As you may notice, the fingerprint settings menu is full of nice options. Interesting additions compared to previous OUKITEL devices.

Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 3, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – GPU Performance is interesting, compared to the MT6737M it is an huge improvement.
AndroBench – Mediocre eMMC Performance, Write Speed is lower than average.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – 3D Performance is a bit low, the Full HD screen isn't easy to handle.
GeekBench – CPU Performance is nearly as good as other CPUs with the same configuration (8x Cortex-A53), i would have expected an higher single core score.

GFXBench – GPU Performance isn't superb as regards OpenGL 3 tests, but decent for OpenGL 2.
PCMark – Compared to the MT6737M, this is an huge upgrade.

Vellamo – I might have expected some higher scores here, just sufficient.
Luckily this MT6737T CPU seems to be the real alternative for low-end devices, it isn't as laggy as MT6737M, and is able to handle almost everything without major issues.
Conclusions
Surprisingly balanced device from OUKITEL, i'm not saying that the Dual-Camera is useful or not, but the device itself, with a great display, snappy user experience and fast enough CPU/GPU, makes it balanced.
I consider this Dual-Camera feature an extra that is good to have (for those who like it), and it works great even though i still have to test other devices with the same feature so i can't tell you if it is working better or not than others.
So, do I recommend it? Currently it isn't possible to find any other device that is able to beat this for the same price, so the answer is pretty clear. Yes!

It is of good quality, I am happy to use it. I just had a problem on the front camera that no longer works. I think it's a software problem because the front works well and when I want to use the front camera I have a black screen. I would like to reinstall the firmware but for now I do not find it.

Hi all,
Got mine a few hours ago from Gearbest, because I thought that at 90€ it was a decent price.
I then chose DHL delivery because for only 6.50€ I could have it from 1 to 7 days.
Big mistake, I didn't knew DHL was passing all the packages to the customs, taking 15€ too, so I had to pay 29€ in taxes in total at delivery...Which is way less interresting at 90+6.50+29=125.50€ :crying:
Anyway, here's my 1st impressions :
The thing is ****ing heavy for a plastic phone !
Good point is it has a silicon cover on it, bad point is it seems to have a very weak signal strenght, mostly the GPS signal :/
Charger is damn slow, it's written 1000mA on it, but I won't be surprised if it's only 800mA...
Last point from my tests : can anyone confirm that this phone can't do nothing in VR ? I tried VR games, Youtube 360 vids, nothing is moving when I move the phone
For now, i won't advise this phone, the only good thing is the screen to me (oh, I forgot : the protective film is shorter than the screen, which is pretty frustrating when you slide your finger from border to center of the 2.5D screen...).

Different sources state different things. But it seems this device doesn't have a gyroscope hence VR isn't possible (or at least not traditional VR). It’s not comfortable for pocket because of 6.44 FHD, but you can freely watch YouTube video and Facebook Chat simultaneously and definitely gives far more impressive video pleasure.
Uhans Max 2 is cheapest smartphone in the big screen category. Let’s check the how it is?

Introduction
This is the UHANS Max 2.
Hardware
Born as a Xiaomi Mi Max 2 clone (or advertised like such), this Max 2 from UHANS does get the big screen from the Xiaomi, 6.44 inches at FHD resolution, and more or less also the same footprint with a pretty slim body and bezels. Something that doesn't get from the Xiaomi is the CPU/GPU, since this is running on a Mediatek MT6750T with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of Storage. Performance-wise, they can't be compared at all.
Unboxing
Packaging comes with lots of accessories compared to the Xiaomi: 1x Micro-USB Cable, 1x 5V/"A USB Charger, 1x Quick Start Guide, 1x OTG Cable, 1x Glass Screen Protector, 1x Flip Cover with Wipes and the Smartphone (of course). No TPU Cover is included (but there is a Flip variant instead), and a plastic screen protector is pre-applied.
Being a phablet, it isn't possible to expect the most compact device. It is 17.6x8.91x0.9mm, with a weight of 247g, that might seem quite heavy, but on such a large surface the weight isn't too much noticeable.
The design is interesting, with a Metal Chassis with two plastic bands for the upper and lower ends, and it feels extremely solid and well-made. A slight key-rattling is noticeable though. Something that, in my opinion, should have been avoided, is the plastic band around the display because, from the front, the device might look "pretty cheap", while from the back, it looks premium.
On the front side there is the common 2.5D Curved Display and the upper front side of the device features a Dual (?) Front-Facing Camera supported by a Flashlight, an Earpiece, and the Sensors hole that includes Light, Proximity and Gesture Sensors. A Notification LED is here, but it only supports one color: Blue.
Here you can see the LED in action.
On the lower front side there isn't much except the Fingerprint Scanner that also works as a virtual home button, it isn't a physical button. It is clear that there is some wasted space on the sides, since there isn't anything at all there.
On the back side there is the metal back cover mentioned before.
The upper rear side of the device features the slightly protruding Dual Camera Sensor supported by a Single-LED Flashlight.
On the lower rear side there isn't anything at all except the UHANS logo because the speaker is located on the lower side.
Device
Screen
The screen panel isn't the best i have ever seen unfortunately, colors look slightly washed-out (lack of contrast probably), and the refresh rate isn't set to 60Hz, but to 54Hz instead. The latter can be fixed with a software update, but colors can't be injected so easily.
The Light Sensor supports partial light changes. Here you can see the panel's maximum brightness. Acceptable result.
Viewing Angles matches IPS screen capabilities, with no major issues.
Camera
I am not sure whether there are some software issues with the camera or not, but as you can notice, the quality of the back camera is just not right. There is a problem with reflections, and colors look greenish. I hope this is just an isolated case, only other users will be able to confirm this.
Apparently the HDR mode works pretty well (if ignoring the picture quality issue), so at least for HDR, the software is OK.
Macros feature the same issue, but the auto-focus seem to work decently with near objects.
As regards the Flashlight, it is hard to say if it is good or not in this case, but testing it separately from the camera, it doesn't look to be powerful.
Video Recording is decent, videos are saved at 1080p30 but the frame-rate struggles to stay stable due to the reflections issue reported before (white balance adjustments require some extra power while recording).
Luckily the front-camera doesn't suffer from any issue, except focusing with near-objects, and the quality is way better compared to the back camera. Way more detailed photos, no greenish tint and no excessive noise. Basically, in the current state, it is better to use the front-camera for everything lol.
Audio
Speaker's Quality is pretty good, providing some low frequencies at maximum volume. The volume itself is pretty high and doesn't seem to produce any distortion. Earpiece quality is decent too, not the best, neither the worst.
As regards the Microphone, it is a bit quiet sincerely, but at least the voice gets recorded properly and with no background noise. No problems noticed while in-call.
GPS
Unlike most previous UHANS devices, this one features a great GPS antenna, and also supports GLONASS.

Telephony, Mobile Network & WiFi
Signal Reception is accurate, with decent 4G speeds i got also on other devices featuring the same SOC. Remember that i test the 4G connection in the same position i test all other devices so this can be a good reference point to compare devices.
Something weird happened with the WiFi 5GHz support there. My 5.0GHz WiFi connection appeared for just some seconds in the list, then disappeared. I will check the software later to see if the device supports 5.0GHz connections for real or not. Connected to my 2.4GHz connection, it is able to reach pretty high speeds considering that it gets connected at 72Mbps.
Battery Life
Testing the battery capacity using my USB tester, i can confirm that the battery capacity matches the declared value, with even some extra capacity. (declared 4300mAh, real ~4420mAh)
The result can be easily confirmed by the PCMark Battery Test, reaching 9h 48m with 8h 47m of screen on time. Considering the power-hungry 6.44 inches screen, it is a quite decent result. Test done at minimum brightness, with WiFi on and Sync on.
As regards battery charging times, well the 5V/2A charger isn't the fastest, but still in less than 3 hours it is possible to fully charge the device.
Software
UHANS choose to use a fully-clean Android OS for this device. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with September 2017 security patches and no bloatware pre-installed. The OS feels smooth, but due to the screen's limited refresh rate, it doesn't feel extremely smooth (of course, 54fps vs 60fps equals to less smoothness).
All Mediatek features such as MiraVision, Gestures, Scheduled Power On/Off, etc… are there.
No malwares detected using Malware-Bytes Anti-Malware with latest definitions.
What impressed me most about this device is the Fingerprint Scanner, even though it isn't the fastest i have ever tried, it is 100% accurate and sensitive. If UHANS manages to reduce the unlock time, i might declare it as one of the best.

Benchmarks
I have used 3DMark, AndroBench, Antutu Benchmark, Epic Citadel, GeekBench 4, GFXBench, PCMark (Work 2.0, Computer Vision, Storage & Work 1.0) and Vellamo (YES, it is back!) to stress the device to the limit. I won’t test Games or Video Playback because there are already some related tests included in these Benchmark suites.
3DMark – GPU Performance is slightly impacted by the limited refresh rate, but it is almost as good as other MT6750T devices.
AndroBench – eMMC Performance is good, with excellent read speeds and sufficient write speeds.
Antutu Benchmark – I won’t say a lot about this benchmark, this isn’t as reliable as others. I’m providing this just for benchmarks lovers.
Epic Citadel – 3D Performance is just enough for a smooth gaming experience, barely higher than 30fps.
GeekBench – Just like most MT6750T devices, single-core CPU performance is pretty low with decent multi-core performance. Enough for most daily tasks.

GFXBench – Being a super-heavy benchmark, it is normal to not get high scores on a low-mid range GPU.
PCMark – Balanced performance in almost all tests, nothing to complain about.

Vellamo – Pretty common scores for this SOC, even though i would have expected an higher score for Chrome.
Conclusions
This device is probably one of the most controversial i have ever tried, since i am pretty sure there will be lots of different feedbacks about it that might be worse, or better, than what i found. It is meant to be an alternative to the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 but there are many compromises that must be considered, such as the back camera, screen and lower performance SOC.
Can i declare it as a low-cost alternative? Well definitely yes, but if the back camera won't get any better and the screen's refresh rate doesn't get restored to its proper value, i am not sure whether this is worth to be considered or not.
I will definitely keep updated this thread if an OTA update gets released in the next few weeks, so keep following it if you are interested. In conclusion, wait a bit before choosing to get it in order to be sure whether what i have reported is just an isolated case or not.

Finally , I chose Xiaomi Mi Max 2, with a special due diligence(200 US$) from the local store(Thailand).

hi, also have the phone. Like to mention the fingerprint sensors is also a back to home screen button so you can disable/fold down the 3 android display-buttons most of the time.
Other phones have the feature of double-tap on fingerprint sensor to go back. Has anyone seen a way to enable this kind of feature?

Is the changelog true? Well I notice some improvements with the screen, but the camera is still buggy thus I guess there is something wrong with my camera lens.

I am writing this review after using the Uhans Max 2 variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage for three weeks. The phone was connected to the 4G network.
Pros:
Calls : No lags and smooth voice.
Internet browsing : No lags and very fast internet site download (if you have 4G connection or 3G has good too).
Build quality : Very good quality frame, made from metal.
Four Cameras: Fast shutter speed and very detailed.
UI: Very fast and responsible.
Display: perfect sized and good resolution.
Battery: big capacity
Cons:
No Notification LED
No Fast charger
NO NFC support
Pretty Heavy ( because of Four cameras, Big battery capacity, Metal body )

Uhans Added 13MP sensor with an F/2.0 aperture. The second rear 2.0MP camera is used to achieve DSLR-level depth-of-field effects. The Main rear camera focuses quickly, which is also great for taking some fine shots of moving subjects. If you’re shooting in HDR, you’ll manage to squeeze in more details, although it takes slightly longer to shoot the photos. I am really impressed by the performance. As for the front camera, it has 13+2MP Dual front cameras with a flash light to reach a high-quality video chat and creates perfect selfies with enhanced brightness and clarity. In all your selfies, you look amazing and gorgeous. in term of video recording, the back camera can record video at 1080p resolution and the quality is great.
Also, Camera app provides some useful modes, such as panorama, beauty, SLR. The camera setting menu has more options for example, face detection, camera mute, touch shutter, anti-shake and others.

Nokia 7.1 First Hands On at the launch.

Hi fellow members, I attended the Nokia 7.1 launch event in London and thought I would share some information with you and give you my first impressions.
Lets start off with the build, it is constructed from a nice flat aluminium frame which is chamfered to give you a seemless blend of matte with a hint of bling. This is sandwiched between 2 panes of glass which Nokia told me comprise of gorilla glass 3 for the screen and a hardened glass around the back. It does look more expensive than the price would suggest, more on that later. There is no mistaking that distinct Nokia look that we have come to recognise in recent years. Weighing in at a mere 160 grams the 7.1 doesn’t feel bulky when using it and infact feels very manageable and easy to get around the phone. The power button and volume rocker are placed perfectly on the right side and Similarly the fingerprint sensor on the back of the 7.1 is comfortable to reach and works very well.
The Nokia 7.1 has a 3.5mm headphone jack up top, so thank you Nokia for not following the heard and of course there is a mono speaker which can be found traditionally on the bottom of the phone, next to that we have a USB type C charging port with support for fast charging capable of delivering 50% charge in just 30 minutes. While we are talking about the charging port lets touch on battery, yes we have a 3060mah battery which on paper doesn’t sound like much admittedly, however when you couple it with the Snapdragon 636 chipset all day battery life shouldn’t be an issue as it is a lot more efficient than the snapdragon 625 it replaces. The Nokia 7.1 also has 3GB of RAM with 32GB of onboard storage or there is also a 4GB RAM with 64GB storage model also available depending on your region and both variants can be expanded via a SD Card.
The Nokia 7.1 boasts a 5.84 inch Full HD+ display which includes HMDs new puredisplay technology, this was created from a partnership with Pixelworks as is said to enhance your viewing experience. Yes we have a notch and yes it has a 19:9 aspect ratio, so what I hear you cry. Well the kicker here is the Screen has HDR 10 support meaning you will get a colour accurate and smooth video experience which can take advantage of services like Netflix. The screen will automatically adjust brightness and contrast to suit the ambient lighting conditions and will also upscale SDR content to HDR in real time resulting in expanded dynamic range, increased brightness and enhanced colours.
Of course no review would be complete without talking about the Zeiss Optics, on the back we have a Dual sensor array comprising of a 12mp f1.8 camera complimented with a 5mp f2.4 depth sensor and around the front we have the 8mp f2.0 selfie camera. The camera app here is far from stock Android, there are various different modes available the most exciting of which is the bothie mode where you can take dual snapshots using the front and rear cameras at the same time. There is also a pro mode available which lets you manually adjust settings such as ISO and of course we have live Bokeh mode which allows you to adjust the blur intensity before taking your photo.
And finally the software, the Nokia 7.1 is an Androidone device, this means you are getting a stock software experience and a bonus is that you won’t have to deal with bloatware from networks or third party apps. It is running Oreo out the box but will be getting Pie by the end of November and being an Androidone device also guarantees software updates for 2 years and security patches for 3.
The Nokia 7.1 will go on preorder on the 5th of October across Europe starting at €319 and in the UK will go on sale from the 17th of October and will retail for £299 from the likes of carphonewarehouse & EE. It will be available to pre-order in the states from the 5th of October for $349 in gloss midnight blue and gloss steel and can be picked up from Amazon, Best Buy and B&H.

I just bought one from Chinese market, which is named Nokia X6. It comes without Playstore and even Calculator, Duo, etc. Even worse, it has some pre-installed apps in Chinese that can't be got rid of. I am looking for the international ROM on the forum but it seems to be in vain.

Reasons I WANT to buy the Honor 8X:
1. GREAT PERFOMANCE.
Despite its low price the 8X does pack a Powerful Punch. The Kirin 710 in normal Day-to-Day use never lagged; at least on my friends phone. Opening of Social Apps is Quick and Most Apps don't lag. Since in Pakistan it costs about 35K its still a solid performer considering that many of the FlagShips cost 50k for the Poco and 112K for the OP6T. And for its current price it offers almost no difference in Day-to-Day normal use. And Games are smooth, no lags in PUBG, etc.
2. BATTERY.
The 3750 mAH Battery is more than sufficient for daily use. And can go for Two-Solid Days with Normal use like browsing Social Media. Or at least it did, On my Friends Phone. He usually Charges it overnight so I dunno. Its a solid performer.
3. CAMERA.
Now this is something that Legit surprised me. On Budget and Mid-Range phones a Solid Camera isn't what you normally expect. They are Average at best. The Honor 8X. It breaks that. Camera is solid. Some of the AI is also. Somethings that require improvement is the Beauty Algorithm. Seriously it makes you look as if you have a TON of Makeup On. Also the Dual-Camera are good both for Photo and Video. Dunno about 4K tho. AFAIK know its there but at [email protected] FPS. Oh well. You can't have it all.

Now I'm probably gonna Ruin my chances with this but it belongs here. And, Of course, Im talking about why I WOULDNT buy the 8X.
Ill just make this one long Paragraph/Rant so people who don't care can skip this, and in One Word. BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING. Its the only reason and Deal Breaker because of which I'm not getting this phone. I know most people don't care about this. Heck the don't even know about it including said friend. But then again he didn't even change the stock wallpaper or the home screen layout so..... Anyway as someone who unlocks the Bootloader of his phone and roots them ASAP the 8X isn't for me. And even if I were to make an exception considering my afore mentioned points, the phone still has some quirks. Software being one of them. Updates are rare and months apart. The Overall Software experience is bloated. I like the direction the company is taking with EMUI 9. But since I haven't tested it I can't say. Overall, Software still needs a LOT OF IMPROVEMENT.

It looks very good aesthetically. Not only that, it's also a very capable unit with the balance of hardware and the often-updated OS. One of my friends had one and from the time that I played it once, I just felt that the cooling system of that unit was impeccable. Both of us played 3 hrs of PUBGM in Medium+High Frame Rate settings and the unit barely become warm to touch. It's also lightweight despite the glass build. Battery was super long-lasting too!

Active Development? LOL. This device doesn't even have an unlock able bootloader. Shame. This is a great device for custom Development. Not as good as Poco but still for half the price where I live. Anyway the permanently locked boot loader is the reason many will not buy this.

irony of all that is , it is showing you are Honor Supporter & they are having this initiative for xda and providing phones with permanently locked bootloader.
They really need to let users Unlock Boot loader and provide sources :fingers-crossed:

Unfortunately that's true. I wish it were possible to remove that to. And as many have said before Honor has no pace on XDA. But thing is not everything on XDA has to do with Custom ROMs, Root or an unlocked Bootloader. Thats only 99% of the stuff. Anyway Honor is using XDA to advertise their phones to people whose first priority is an unlock able bootloader. And even if they do a complete 180 the Damage has been done. No Dev wants to develop for Huawei. Rooting EMUI 9 is a royal PITA.

I'd want to buy the Honor 8X because I had the occasion to test it with my own hands as one of my friends own it, and it's nothing short of amazing.
I've been searching for a viable replacement for my LG V20 that is getting a bit old, and I might finally settle for the Honor 8X as my V20's successor.
Its price will not break the bank at all, but that doesn't mean it doesn't come packed with good stuff. Even if the price is quite low, it comes in a big form factor that I love (I watch a lot of movies and videos on my phone, and sometimes the subtitles are too small and I have to squint my eyes to see properly, same goes for finer details in some videos, they're just too small to see on a smaller screen) and it has a modern and premium look. I never had a 'glass sandwich' phone before, and this one is one of the better looking glass sandwiches with that color scheme on the back. I also love that it kept the headphone jack, as sometimes I use my hi-fi wired headphones to listen to music. Also the big battery will surely last me quite a bit, even if I watch movies, listen to music, or play some casual game. I didn't get the chance to try the camera, but I've watched a couple of YouTube videos about this phone and it seems pretty good, with the AI features and all.
Long story short, I like this phone because it has a huge screen, it's a good looker in general and it feels premium, and it fits my multimedia-intense criteria for phones.

I bought Honor 8X because my dad wanted an upgrade over his Honor 5X. He was using a 3 year old device and wanted an upgrade. Honor 8X became the obvious choice as due to eye catching design, nice bigger screen and huge battery and as usual, trust on Honor brand since last 4 years now. He is used to EMUI so not much a problem as well.
Also, I used the device initially and here is my detailed review about the same.
Launched in September’18 and then making its debut in Indian market in October’18 during Honor fan fest in India, Honor 8X has sidelined almost every other player in this budget segment and is coming up with great reviews every now and then. Below is my personal review about Honor 8X. I am using this device for a week now and ready to give my initial impression about the phone.
Powerful Processor with GPU turbo- Initially I was not very sure about the new processor, coming from Kirin 970, but the phone has been doing really well in terms of performance and inhouse 12nm Kirin 710 is doing an amazing job under the hood with AI capabilities and comes with Android Oreo, EMUI 8.2 out of the box and GPU Turbo boost the graphical processing preserving the FPS and stability and at the same time reducing the power consumption. Kirin processors are known for this right?
Look and Build Quality- So when most of the OEMs does not focus much on the build quality and only adds bunch of feature in the phone, Honor has done a commendable job. Instead of cheaper and regular build quality, Honor has provided a flagship level quality and look to the device. I am in love with this design not recently but since the time of Honor 8 launch (2 years back). It looks expensive than it actually is with its grating effect glass body and superb build quality.
Display- With roughly around 91% screen to body ratio and 6.5-inch FHD+ display with 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution, display covers almost the entire front view making the device look stunning still manage to fit in the same phone size of a 5.5-inch phone, making for an easier to hold even with bigger size. Users who plays a lot of games or watch videos on their phone will definitely love the display and enjoy watching the content on nearly borderless display. Display looks vibrant and color reproduction are really good and allowing users to change the mode to vivid or natural colors which is even better.
Battery- With massive 3750 mAh battery and fully optimized EMUI 8.2, Kirin 710 and GPU turbo, battery does really well and last for over a day with moderate to heavy usage. Various inbuilt battery saving technologies are an added advantage here which preserves the juice for those critical hours. Even though, phones come with a massive 6.5 inch screen, I would say battery life is excellent on this phone and I could easily get 8 hours of Screen on time and over 1 day of battery backup.
Camera- Probably the USP of all Honor phones in any segment they gets launched. All performs to the expectation and 8X is not lacking behind. Dual AI Camera performs well and delivers more than you can imagine. Coupled with 20MP+2MP AI dual rear camera and 16MP front facing camera, you can take amazing picture and no need to carry an additional device specifically for clicking pictures as your smartphone is your best companion for the same. Honor has added the night mode directly without any need to navigate across options and settings. AI does make a difference and there is AI switch given which makes it easier to click pictures with or without as per user's need. Super Slow-motion video does really well and produces interesting and fun to watch videos. I have clicked few pictures and they looks awesome considering the price range.
Sound- Volume through earpiece is good and no challenges there and also the volume through the sound grill is loud enough for regular day to day usage. Certainly, better than my couple of other phones. There are various options available for headphone sound known as Histen Sound effect which can change the sound effect based on the mode you select or the type of headphone you are using, also you can enable/disable 3D sound effect and customize your equalizer. Initially there was some issue and when you speaker volume was more than 70% there were intermittent vibration during music, YouTube play but has been fixed by OTA.
Software- EMUI 8.2 on top of Android 8.1 is really optimized and phone doesn’t lag even with heavy usages. Game Assist, Party mode are added advantages for users who use such feature. Mine is global version so not much bloatware and there is VOLTE support for JIO, Vodafone (tested only these 2). Phone was received with JSN-L21C900 B120 version and got 3 updates within a week B125, B130 and B133 and most of the issue that were there in phone were fixed and no more issues with magazine unlock or the vibration on higher volume. EMUI 9.0 can hit the phone anytime and as I have tested with my other Honor phones, EMUI 9.0 really improve the responsiveness and fluidness by some amount compared to EMUI 8.0 or earlier versions.
Storage- Phone comes in 3 variants, 4/64, 6/64 and 6/128 GB versions. Mine is 4/64 variant and you get around 54.9 GB of free storage on first boot. As phone supports dual SIM+additional SD card support, you need not to worry about running of space and can use external card to store your media, music files.
Call quality and network- Call quality is just awesome; network signal reception is good. One of the advantage on Honor 8X is the dual sim and SD card slot unlike hybrid slot in many other phones pushing us to compromise on dual sim or expandable storage. Wi-Fi supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac bands and I would say the time to connect to a Wi-Fi and network speed is pretty well.
